PLANET VALENTI News and Commentary

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THURSDAY, SEPT. 15, 2011) — Bits and pieces of the now-notorious Pittsfield Triple Murders continue to float in the air, in reality, and in cyberspace.

Capeless Deserves Some Slack — If and only until evidence to the contrary emerges, the most credible source of information on protection provided to witnesses in the Adam “Leo” Hall cases is Berkshire County DA David Capeless. Yesterday, in an exclusive interview with THE PLANET, Capeless made clear that his office not only provided protection requested by witnesses but also proactively reached out to witnesses, especially after Hall was released on bail. Having no reason to believe otherwise, THE PLANET joins those who have vouched for Capeless and the work of his office in connection their handling of the Hall prosecution.

Then There’s the Question of Bail — The most pressing question at the moment is that of Hall’s bail. Which judge granted it? When? Why? What were the reasons? Who put up the quarter million dollars to spring Hall from custody? Who was liable to pay if he had skipped? Will Central Berkshire District Court comment on any of these questions. Will the clerk magistrate release documents so that the public can have answers and help us understand how Hall was deemed safe to release, albeit after paying a hefty bail. As we know, Hall is one of three men now faced with murder. Would three men now be alive had officials kept Hall locked up, erring on the side of caution?

The Boring Broadsheet Turns in Its Most Pathetic Performance Yet — Can the Boring Broadsheet, The Paper Formerly Known as The Berkshire Eagle, sink any lower? Here it literally has a sensational story fall into its lap: A grisley triple murder, in its hometown, involving many exotic  elements (see Kennebunk Journal story below), the stuff of National Enquirer, except they are facts. And yet, it’s first-day follow to the story on the arraignment of three suspects is to focus on the instant celebrity of one of the trio. ANY, repeat, ANY newspaper with an ounce of ink in its system would assign a team of reporters, full time, to track down the many angles of this case. THE PLANET sat down with a reporter friend (not from the BB, by the way) and we brainstormed a such dozen story leads. Once again, the BB has failed  the citizens of Pittsfield and Berkshire County. It trivializes the Story of the Millennium into one about the makeup of Goatboy.

Caius, You Can’t call Him Ray — Speaking of the most infamous of the three alleged killers, it has been learned that Caius Veiovis in July 2008 legally changed his name from Roy Gutfinski Jr. while serving time in Maine State Prison.

The Kennebunk Journal reported this in a story yesterday, bylined by Betty Adams. Adams’ story also had more details about Veiovis’ previous criminal past.  We present her story in full, but first, we run this picture of Veiovis, taken in 1999 in Waterville, Maine, District Court when he was known as Roy Gutfinski.

This is what Caius Veiovis looked like in 1999, when he was Roy Gutfinski Jr. Photo was taken in Waterville, Maine, District Court. (Credit Photo to the Kennebunk Journal)

Here is Adams’ story:

One of three men facing triple murder charges in Massachusetts was convicted in 2000 in Augusta in a sensational case that included blood-letting and overtones of vampirism.

Then, he was known as Roy Gutfinski Jr. of Augusta.

Today, after a legal name change in July 2008 while a Maine State Prison inmate, his name is Caius Domitius Veiovis.

Veiovis, 31, pleaded not guilty in a Pittsfield, Mass., courtroom Monday to three counts each of murder, kidnapping and intimidation of witnesses, according to a court clerk.

He is being held without bail and is to return to court Oct. 12.

James G. Reardon Jr., the court-appointed attorney for Veiovis, was unavailable Tuesday.
In news accounts published in Massachusetts, Reardon said he had received little information about the slayings or Veiovis’ alleged participation.

Veiovis and two other men — Adam Lee Hall, 34, allegedly a sergeant-at-arms of the local Hells Angels chapter; and David Chalue, 44 — are charged with killing David Glasser, Edward Frampton and Robert Chadwell on or about Aug. 28.

“This is a pending case,” Berkshire County District Attorney David Capeless said Tuesday. “There is very little I can say about it.”

His office issued a statement earlier this week announcing investigators had found the remains of three men who had been missing for two weeks, and charged three others.

He said officials still are investigating the association among all the men.

The penalty in Massachusetts for a first-degree murder conviction is life in prison without parole.
Veiovis served almost 71⁄2 years of a 10-year sentence in Maine on convictions in 2000 for elevated aggravated assault, aggravated assault and reckless conduct.

He was 19 and still known as Gutfinski when he sliced open the back of a 16-year-old girl, then licked the blood with another girl while they kissed.

The cutting was done by Gutfinski’s girlfriend, also 16, police said. The razor cut along the victim’s back required 32 stitches to close, according to court documents.

At Gutfinski’s waived-jury trial in 2000, prosecutor Alan Kelley portrayed Gutfinski as a member of the “Goths,” a group of people who wore dark clothes and practiced self-mutilation and some blood-licking or blood-drinking.

“Roy Gutfinski Jr. perceived himself (as) and claimed to be a Satanic worshipper, claimed to police he was a vampire and drank blood, his own as well as other persons’, as often as possible,” Kelley said in the courtroom.

Kelley and witnesses described Gutfinski’s apartment on Water Street as dark and dungeonlike with darkened windows, bones scattered about, pictures of bodies on the walls and razor blades throughout the apartment.

When police searched the apartment, they found a library book on human anatomy under a fish tank that housed a snake, and an ax near a wooden chair.

Kelley said the cutting victim met Gutfinski and his girlfriend downtown two days before the incident occurred.

Neither Gutfinski’s girlfriend nor the victim wanted Gutfinski prosecuted, and he did not testify in his own defense.

After his conviction, but before sentencing, Gutfinski took a razor to his own arms while in jail and needed 200 stitches to close the wounds.

Court records show he has had a series of mental evaluations over the years.

For the cutting incident, Gutfinski was sentenced on July 3, 2000, to 10 years in prison with all but three years suspended, and four years’ probation.

He served the initial term of incarceration, then returned to prison several times for violating probation. Some of those incidents involved getting charged with criminal conduct in New Bedford, Mass.

Gutfinski was released on probation from Maine State Prison on April 27, 2010, and discharged from probation July 8, 2010, according to Jody Breton, associate commissioner of the Maine Department of Corrections.

In the intervening years, Veiovis had a series of hornlike objects implanted in his forehead. Now they are visible as bumps, three on each side.

He also has had a series of tattoos, some reaching to his face, and a roughly drawn 666 in the middle of his forehead.

Gutfinski also tried — and failed — to get a Kennebec County Probate Court judge to approve a name change to “Diszade Trash Horror” in 2003.

In that petition, Gutfinski described himself as a religious Satanist.

“I wish to shed all ties with the Christian church, and one important step toward that goal is legally changing my name,” he wrote.

In the successful name-change petition in Knox County, Gutfinski wrote, “Adopted as a child, (I) have no blood relation with, nor do I share the nationality my given name implies. It has long been a burden for me and I feel the new name I have carefully and with much thought, chosen more justly represents my individuality and nationality. This name is also in keeping with my religious beliefs.”

Great follow up, It raises yet more questions regarding the suspect.
How did he end up here? Was he lured here by the great cultural offerings? Or was he here as part of some program? Was he supposed to be supervised? Was he released from prison with no restrictions? Or was probation or some other agency notified? I am certain the BB will be getting to the bottom of these questions.

According to several posts on the Pittsfield Topix blog, his ex-wife or girlfriend is from Pittsfield. Check out her various You Tube and web sites by googling her alleeged name: Bella Vendetta. Topix also cites her legal or prior family name, but I don’t think it is appropriate to publicize it. You will find many images that are sick, shocking, and make you wonder how low some members of society have sunk. There are also images of the suspect that make his mug shot appear to be that of Little Lord Founteroy. Disgusting !

Wow this story speaks volumes doesn’t it about the type of characters that are drawn to Pittsfield for whatever reasopn, the creative economy, the arts, the lively downtown, the great schools, the pcbs … Planet is right. I can’t believe how the BB has basically ignored this story by not going after the many questions. I’d start with an expose on Hells Angels, talk to some of the members, then do a page one story on how in the heck Hall got our on bail.

One fun little fact that hasn’t been reported yet is that Gutfinski aka Veiovis (whose current acquaintances all call simply “Trash”) was courted for recruitment (along with his “wife” at the time) in the HA shortly after coming to Pittsfield following his release from prison. By all accounts he was receptive.
A scenario in which he and/or Chalue might have been offered official acceptance into the “club” in exchange for helping “take care” of this problem of Hall’s is not hard to imagine.

I’m not sure the HA’s would not want Veiovis around them. I’m not saying they wouldn’t use his “services,” but I don’t think of HA’s as vampires.

That’s not generally how this motorcycle club works, Dan. That is some pretty amazing television show caliber logic, but here in the real world, murder is still a serious crime and a motorcycle club or other gang will not sanction murder in retaliation for petty crime, nor will they generally use untested, unknown, untrusted outsiders for such crimes.
I am sure this was a personal matter. A stupid, sad, pathetic personal matter.

While I agee that HA are probably not knowingly involved in this, they were possibly the conduit for which Jr. and Leo became acquainted.

Again, going back to the twit’s blog, she mentions performing/playing/partying at Hell’s Acres in Lee in March of 2010. Now, this was before Jr. was released from Maine prison, but it certainly seems to set have set the stage for a meeting of freaks.

I’d like to know who gave the green light on the Hall as an informant article depicting him as someone who would do anything to stay out of prison even rat on his own buddies. Although I really could care less it’s interesting to me and kind of a low blow. Are there documented facts to back up this claim?

Its part of the good cop / bad cop. FBI is playing Hall, trying to get him to confess and ask for protective custody while in prison. If he know the HA’s are going to be after him for attempting to rat them out to save his own hide, he would probably be safer in a PC ward in prison for life than out on the streets

BAD COP: throws this info out to the HA’s
GOOD COP: offers PC while in prison. Hey its better than being in general population where he’d get shanked. HA’s are going to have a bounty on his head for taking the club house funded bail money while at the same time he tried to rat them to the FBI

Yesterday I ventured into the Town of Peru on business at the Peru Town Hall. I was shocked to see a huge collection of law enforcement officers set up in the center of Peru. The lady I talked to in the Town Hall spoke with some confidenxce that the number of law enforcement officers was well over 100. Adam Hall’s residence, just a little bit east and across the street from the Town Hal and Fire Station, was being searched for more evidence in the case. There were rumors that they were not only searching for more evidence but also searching for body parts.

In todays BB, there was not a hint of mention of this case, at least I did not see one. Yesterday’s event was truely newsworthy in light of the number of officers involved. Look at it from a cost perspective. 100 officers, estimate $100/hr, 8 hours. The cost alone is staggering.

The law enforcement community is taking this pretty seriously, yet not a peep in the newspaper.

I took a little ride around Bella Vendetta’s twitter posts. Interesting little twit. But, doing a bit of poking around I found several references to “suspension.” Naturally being the curious being I am, I researched “suspension.”

Now, based on this is there any wonder why Pittsfield has turned into a freak show:

Hello Everyone! Dates and details are set for the 2011 ROP BBQ! The 2011 BBQ this year will once again be held at the Pittsfield state forest in Massachusetts from Friday August 12th till Sunday August 14th. If you’ve been before then you know what to expect. If not, its 3 days of camping, BBQing, catching up with old friends, making new ones and most importantly, suspensions in the beautiful heart of the Berkshires.”

Suspensions are “A suspension is the act of suspending a human body from hooks that have been put through body piercings. These piercings are temporary and are performed just prior to the actual suspension.”

Does it bother anyone besides me that during August we had freaks hanging themselves from trees suspended by their piercings?

Somehow, and I admit it’s merely a personal obsevation, I don’t think Cultural Pittsfield would catagorize this as an art form. However, I assume many residents would consider a hanging apropos.
Aren’t there park rangers at the state forest and is this type of activity condoned ?

This is an art form which begs to be performed some weekend evening during a Tanglewood concert. Can’t you see a line of blood-steamed bodies hanging from trees on the Main Lawn? Better yet, Suspension’s coordinators can pair their event with an all-Wagner program (Adolf Hitler’s favorite composer).

No, it does not bother me. They broke no laws. Not my thing, don’t understand it.
What is your problem with it? Is it because it is outside of the little shell we are told to exist in?
I’m not trying to offend your view point. Just wondering what makes you hateful/scared/disdainful of this practice.
Personally I think people who get into watching sports are ignoring the problems we face as a nation. Spending time on bullshit. Whatever, who am I to judge a persons likes or dislikes.
More to the point, what does it matter to you if people suspend themselves?
If you want to practice suspension, well, that’s up to you. If want to stare at a TV screen and watch men throw a ball around, that also is fine.
It is really all the same.
It is entertainment. It is enjoyable for those engaged in it, and also for viewers.
What do you mean by ‘Freaks’? Anyone who doesn’t reflect the attitudes you hold?
You can look at my posts for the past year, I’m a Conservative/Libertarian. I support America, the Constitution, Guns, Free Speech etc.
Your statements really portray someone who wants to control/dictate to those around you.
That said, you would fit into the ‘freak’ category in my mind.

Dee are you kidding me. You have no idea idea how sick and unnatural what these people do is. Drinking human blood, suspending body with hooks etc. etc. It is sick, and what did this guy end up being a part of MURDER of three people. After reading what you posted you need counciling

Dee

I personally do not care what these people (freaks) do. If they chose to hang themselves from their bags and eyelids, sliced and drip dry themselves whilst hung from a pine bough makes no difference to me. My outrage is based on the location they used. A state forest. A place where families take their children camping. A place that embodies beauty, nature, and peace. That, to me, is an assault to every person who enters the park, who may stumble on to their activities.

Do you think that they suspend themselves while chanting little diddies to obtain a level of meditation? No – I think not. A passage taken from Bella’s own blog from last August: “11th annual Rites of Passage suspension BBQ takes place in Pittsfield State Forest for three days of playing in blood and seeing some of my favorite people from all over the world.”

Jr. already has done time in Maine prison for slicing a girl’s back (requiring 32 stitches to close) and drinking her blood. So, obviously somewhere there are laws against this activity which, according to Bella, goes hand and hand with their suspension activities.

And, although it is none of your business, I have never been accused of living in the shells society tells me to. Some people would question my life and my choices as they are not conventional. I have no desire to control or dictate how anyone should live their lives. However, that being said, do not take your activities to a state park where your choice may adversely affect others.

Also, I stand by my statement of freaks and their freak show. Merriam-Webster describes the definitation of a freak as: one that is markedly unusual or abnormal: as (a) : a person or animal having a physical oddity and appearing in a circus sideshow (b) slang (1) : a sexual deviate (2) : a person who uses an illicit drug. So I believe my description was very accurate.

Dee and also Mr Valenti,
With all due respect- the art of suspension goes way back to the Native American tradition of hanging off of hooks in order to reach some kind of spiritual enlightenment. It has everything to do with overcoming pain and seeing with the clarity beyond that pain. Are you, Dee, implying that the Native Americans who practised this are also ‘freaks’? That this land cannot be used for suspension because it doesn’t ffit the framework of modern society? The ROP event does not take place around children and is a drug and alcohol free event. Better, I think, that a lot of drinking and drug taking that DOES go on in the forest.

I don’t do it. Never have. Never will. However let me assure you that a cursory reading of Ms Vendetta’s blog piece/twitter post about the event does not give you a clear picture of what goes on. Her choice of words ‘play in blood’ I believe was just a play on words. It does not mean they are laughing maniacally while performing some sort of voodoo ritual or anything. They are not Satan worshippers, they do not perform rituals whilst hanging etc. In fact, if you do a little research, you’ll see that it’s actually been used by addicts as a method to keep off and stay off drugs. There was even a National Geographic episode about suspension that featured Ms Vendetta and her crew where they analyzed how the body reacts to such acts. The show was called ‘Beyond Human’.

Finally, Mr Veoivis is the only one who claims to be a Satanist. Do not assume that the rest of ROP members are anything like that or believe in anything of that nature.

However, were any complaints lodged with PPD or any other law enforcement agency regarding the people in the state forest? If so, then ok, I know of none.
In my view the programs that children watch on broadcast television are more offensive to the American lifestyle than any person who goes to a public forest and performs acts within the law.

it’s sad that a reporter would participate in spreading untruths.
the HA did NOT try to recruit bella or caius.

I honestly don’t know why anyone has brought Bella’s name into this at all, she left the guy months ago and has been trying to move on with her life.
she has fans all over the world that adore and respect her, why would anyone want to smear her in all of this?
she is a creative and artistic woman, and the ways she chooses to exspress herself may not be for everyone, but they are all within the law.
there is nothing illegal about making pornography, there are no county laws against suspension.
the yearly event is gathering of like minded individuals from all over the world. it is a sober event, done in private settings, no one is forcing their viewpoint on anyone else.
it’s a public park, and people may use it for whatever law abiding activities they wish
the park rangers and local PD certainly know about the event and it has been going on for 12 years.
It is not publicized locally because as evidenced by this forums comments, people around here are pretty close minded.

and actually, yes they do meditate and it is an extremely spirutual experience.
I realize some people may not fully understand body modification in all it’s forms, but that does not mean people who practice it should be condemed.
the suspension event has absolutely NOTHING to do with the case at hand. You guys are just DIGGING for random facts to write about
seems to me there’s plenty of actual fact to speak of, why the reach?

It’s unfair to look down on body modification, goths, or even satanism for Roy Gutfinski’s actions. That being said, I don’t think it’s at all unreasonable to feel disgusted at Bella Vendetta (Kristen DeLuca). She knew the guy was sexually violent. She even knew he was interested in murder, his profile on her website lists his kinks as; “sadism, murder, necrophilia and anal sex.”
It’s ridiculous to portray her as an artist who should be left alone. She’s a dominatrix prostitute and she encouraged this guy’s sick tendencies by giving him roles in S&M films.
She doesn’t deserve sympathy. She deserves to be shamed and despised. And no not everything she does is legal, on her Formspring page she clearly references prostitution which is illegal.

I checked out this Formspring page. There are zero references to prositution. What she is referencing is Dominatrix work. Doms do not perform sex. It is NOT prostitution at all. Get your facts straight.
As regards her ex- how many goths you think would list all of those things as their interests. What people say and what people do are different things. You can feel however you want about her. I’m not a huge fan of anything she does. Not my thing at all.
I DO think, however, that it is despicable that you have chosen to give out her full name. As much as she has shattered your little mind, I’m sure she has family whose name does not deserve to be dragged through this. Ever think of that? Probably not. Coz the witch hunt is ON! Let’s burn her.
You need to get over the fact that she’s not your average woman and focus your anger on the men who have been arraigned.

there are absolutely NO films in which Bella Vendetta appears with Roy Gutfinski. he has never made a pornographic film, I have no idea why you would make such a statement without any evidence to back it up

she is not a prostitute. She is an adult film star.
Do you think Jenna jameson deserves shame, or is it just because you don’t resonate with Bella’s preferred brand of sexuality?

YOU should be shamed for putting her legal name out there

I’m not saying she deserves sympathy, but she doesn’t deserve to be put into the middle of this either.

if you are such a moral person, why would you give out her legal name? have you thought of the way that may affect her family?

@ Native American-

You are correct. Thank you for this post.
I vividly recall period paintings of Eastern Plains Mandan Warriors practicing suspension. I believe the paintings are credited to George Catlin. Circa 1830’s. The subjects in the paintings suspended themselves with hooks in the breast and also the upper back. If memory serves, it was part of a ritual called Okipa.
Certainly this practice was not confined to one Nation. It is a historical fact that suspension was practiced by Native Americans.
Personally suspension interests me none. I don’t want to do it or see it.
But to vilify those who do is simply ignorant.
