(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, ELECTION DAY +1, WEDNESDAY, NOV. 7, 2012) — We won’t belabor the point, but We The People — their electors, at any rate — have re-elected Barack Obama President of the United States. One could see it coming, despite a credible effort by Mitt Romney. In the end, too many rabid right wingers were enough to scare away enough votes from the Republicans to make the difference for Romney. The loonyards on the left (we’re talking the extremes of both parties) were hardly noticed here in Massachusetts, where unless you have “D” after your name, you can’t crack the adults table. What a pity!
With the Congress remaining in GOP hands and the Dems holding on to the Senate, tell THE PLANET: what will change in the next four years concerning the paralyzing gridlock that has festooned this country in crepe?
As for us, we are dropping out of the electoral college, where our professorship has come to a merciful end. We’ve done a lot of blogging and writing lately, countless numbers of words, and we shall enjoy a brief post-election repast. Today, we open things up a bit. THE PLANET would like to hear from anyone and everyone out there who has thoughts on what happened last night, both nationally and statewide, with the President’s successful re-election bid and Democratic hegemonic rule having been returned to the Commonwealth in Elizabeth Warren‘s defeat of Scott Brown.
One parting thought: What kind of man is Mitt Romney? A man of class, dignity, and honor. The best “for instance” we can offer is one from last night. After it became apparent that Obama had won, Romney ordered his webmaster to carry a live stream of the President victory speech. That’s a class act, ladies and gentlemen.
Your thoughts, as always, add the spice to our vittles here on THE PLANET, have fun, go for it, don’t mince words, but keep the discussion elevated. We cherish the heights, not for “looking down” on anyone. Rather, we love the rarified air, clean, free, and uncomplicated.

Remember too that months ago Obama was overheard telling Russia’s dictator Vladimir Putin that he, Obama, would be better able to trade off nuclear weapons and make a ‘deal’ with Putin ‘after the election’.
Don’t you feel warm, fuzzy, and safe with the valiant protector of America’s servicemen in command at The White House for another four years?
I think respecting the servicemen means not asking them to deploy and die for a jackass reason.

The “takers” now outnumber the “makers”. Prehaps its been that way for a while but now the “takers” will vote to make sure they can still “take”. Nothing but trouble ahead.

Big business should be doing more here instead of sending jobs to other countries. Corporate America cries poor too much. You don’t want people at the food stamp office but you don’t want to pay them a fair wage either. It’s like tho whole abortion thing. The far right people don’t believe in abortion or supporting the unwanted kids had by the poor because control wasn’t an option or they faced ridicule for making a tough choice. The democratic party may have a huge amount of people who are lazy and believe in redistribution of wealth but when it comes to humanitarian and environmental efforts at least they make sense. We need to start working on the quality of life and put profits and this idea of a growth economy on the back burner for awhile. We need to just sustain for now.

I heard it all yesterday…when a seasoned voter told me that our individual votes really didn’t matter as it was the ELECTRIC COLLEGE who decided the outcome in the end…I have nothing more to say.
It happened by we the people slowly giving control of our government to the politicians and lobbyists. Allowing politicians that only care about being elected and reelected at any cost and raising as much money in campaign donations as they can from lobbyists, unions and Hollwood entertainers and super stars and spending over $6 Billion on deceptive advertising to promote their candidacies that have only political interests and party interests invested over our constitutional interests. And disrespecting our supreme court into trying to make us believe people are not corporations and money doesn’t talk in exchange for getting free stuff for our votes. Free stuff doesn’t equal freedom.
We the people need to work on a few things.
Term limits: Do away with career politiians.
Balance of Budgets: Make a new law. If the budget you are responsible for is not balanced, you are not eligible for re-election.
Make it law that you cannot be a lobiest if you were a politician.
Limit the amount of money to be spent on a campaign.
It happened because the the RINOs running the GOP force forced another unelectable candidate forward although there were many more qualified in the running early on.
They further distanced themselves from support/voters when they stole the delegates from the rightful winner (Paul) in several states (Me, Ma) .
They further lost support at their convention by not allowing the only other viable candidate remaining, Dr. Paul, to have a voice ot take part, something he had truly earned
This no doubt effected Brown here.
In Maine the RINOs lost just about everything they could. Yes the people spoke LOUDLY against the corrupted establishment running the GOP.Let’s hope we have seen the last of Willard and his ilk.

It is all a scam. The only way to beat it is by focusing on our own communities and getting involved. I always feel dirty when I leave the voting booth. I’d rather spend time teaching people in poor parts of town how to grow their own food and erecting green houses. The whole idea of a growth based economy will only grow us out of existence. We need to focus on sustaining.
I am most happy that Andrea Nuciforo is going to be a private citizen in about 2 months from now. I am also happy to see President Barack Obama back for another 4 years with Elizabeth Warren in the U.S.. Senate. Yeah. Hurray!
I predict that congress will remain gridlocked and the same people who would not compromise in an effort to move the country forward will do the same for the next four years. For them, improving their personal lot in life is more important than improving the lot of their own country for the betterment of all. So sad.
What really bugs me is how clever the Democrats think they are. They don’t realize how putting all power with one party will spell doom for this country. Corruption will continue to rear its head because Democrats won’t kiss and tell on other Democrats. That only happens between opposing parties which is how corruption is kept in check. They just see the corruption and look the other way as long as Big Santa government is giving them all they want. Don’t people see how this supposedly feel good behavior will end in disaster for all of us? Or do they just want to jump on the gravy train now that Obama has been re-elected and get all they can from government?
What a turnaround from the generation who really believed the words “Think not what your government can do for you, but what you can do for your government”. We have turned that saying completely around.
Elizabeth Warren winning was completely wrong as she had shown herself to be not worthy of being Senator. I shouldn’t be amazed since the Treasurer elected by the people of Massachusetts in the last election was famous for cheating on her taxes, but was elected anyway.
Let’s not forget Chris Matthews jumping up and down thanking the heavens for bringing us Hurricane Sandy since he believes it broke up Romney’s momentum; well it just pretty much sums up the Progressive Democrats mindset. Never mind the deaths and destruction that the storm caused. You couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried and you really wouldn’t want to.
I will weigh in the Brown v Warren Race. Brown was too negative, especially at the start. A month or two of derisively calling Warren “Professor” and Brown’s never ending obsession over Warren’s “Indian Heritage” appeared to be a crass put down. Frankly, it was beneath Brown, so why do it? When Brown would not let up, whatever marginal point he may have made started to seem more likely bullying. I think people started to see the mean streak shown by the “popular jock,” the type who is used to getting his way on his good looks, a slap of the right back and a joke aimed at “others” the type where all the guys “on theam team” seem to think in hilarious….but to everyone else, its no so funny.
Like when they brought up Scott Brown’s nude photo shoot? Both sides get nasty.

You’re right they attacked Warrens family heritage and Warren answered back by bringing up Brown’s shameful past.
The popular jock actually gets his way because he can deal with people, lead, and perform. People who elect a weakling misfit because they are too jealous of anyone better than them deserve what they get. The entitlement state is tottering and people nervously rushed towards Obama and Warren because they promised infinite giveaways–which will just cause it to completely lose balance.
I think you hit it on the head Dan. Republicans in general seem too far right for dems and independents to vote for them. And their supporters are too in your face and that turns people off, at least in my opinion and experience. Even Brown suffered in this way. Despite his being fairly neutral and honest, Dems wanted to vote for their party, even if Warren is untrustworthy. Right or wrong, I think it was a huge factor.
Other than that, Obama did great in more populous cities, which was key to the electoral vote in swing states. Good strategy to get elected for any candidate. I’m sure Romney had a similar strategy, he just didn’t in those votes.
Now the key is working together for the benefit of the country instead of both sides being so contentious with each other.

It’s the ideologues of both parties that prevent dialog and ensure contention. This is a split country. The only way of principled compromise. I doubt it will happen. We seem to be lacking in statesmen.
So John Kerry becomes the Secretary of State and the honorable Governor picks a replacement Senator to fill his seat. Senator elect Elizabeth Warren becomes the senior senator of Massachusetts.
This country is split in the middle and no one will give. We are in for 4 real bad years. The takers won this one. Next election there will be more takers than givers. Sooner or later that won’t be possible anymore then we will be in more trouble than we are now.
What do you mean when you say takers? Single moms who have dead beat baby daddy’s who are trying to get an education? I was gonna vote for Brown but I literally changed my mind on my way to the booth after discussing it with my wife. (She and I both voted Brown last time.) I think you guys are right he’s way too far right and although he believes in the second amendment what has he really done to preserve it? And what can Warren really do to repeal it? At the end of the day it came down to Warren making more sense in other issues. I don’t like her thoughts on gun control or illegal immigrants. But when she talks about big business. Big business has a choice they can share the wealth and keep jobs here while being mindful of the environment and communities they directly effect or it can be taken from them by the lower class. This area other then the environmental factors doesn’t effect me much. A corporation should no longer be considered a person. Say what you will but it’s my opinion and that’s just the way it is.

Your first line says it all, succinctly. That is probably the best analysis I’ve read, in one sentence.
Winners and losers in an election are not the candidates themselves, winners and losers will be determined in the future in regards to how well the candidate with the most votes performs or doesn’t perform. We the people will be the winners or the losers. It is way too early to determine if we have won or lost. A predictable response from those who think that leadership and elections are some sort of high school locker room antics or a home coming queen popularity contest.
I seen no mention of policy or positions mentioned in JLO’s musings. I would have thought that the response would read- Warren garnered the most votes because of her stance and explanation of it to the electorate in regards to energy issues or her desire to control the debt and deficits via ….. Not some dribble regarding Brown referring to her as professor etc. But look at the leadership and mindset of the City leadership and I’m not surprised at the expectations being so low. What’s next checking the invite list at a candidates 10th birthday party? It’s about issues real issues not a popularity contest. For the record I voted for Gary Johnson, and neither Brown or Warren for Senate.

LAS VEGAS (CBS Las Vegas)— A Las Vegas business owner with 114 employees fired 22 workers today, apparently as a direct result of President Obama’s re-election.
“David”(he asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) told Host Kevin Wall on 100.5 KXNT that “elections have consequences” and that “at the end of the day, I need to survive.”

My thoughts on the losers…
Romney:
– Picking Paul Ryan as running mate was a mistake. Did he not learn from the Sarah Palin fiasco?
– He flip flopped on so many issues it scared folks away. Who is the real Romney? No one knows.
– His 47% remark really hurt him. It showed the privileged, pompous side of him.
Scott Brown:
– His own party killed him. I rec’d so many negative mailings and phone calls from them (much more than Warren’s) that it really turned me off.
– The debate in Springfield did not go well for him. Too many times he parroted the typical Republican BS.
Republican party in general:
It’s time to become a more intelligent party and start getting rid of morons like Karl Rove and Sarah Palin. I think they and FoxNews really hurt the party with all the lies and BS they spread. The fact that most of the red states are ones where educational systems are at the bottom of the pile if very telling. If you are running campaigns that appeal to people with 6th grade educations and no teeth it’s not gonna work on the federal level.

Dan admit it, you worked for two losers, Romney and Brown. Valenti worked on both campaigns after having met Romney when he did the talk show at WBRK and wormed his way in to the inner circle. Hmm, PB appears to have a little personal animosity going there. As stated previously in my very limited postings, I am usually unaware of old grudges vendetta or who peed in whos cheerios last year. DV if the rumor is true and you were somehow involved in Mr. Romneys debate prep than Bravo I say. Any honest observer would consider Mr Romneys performance in the debates to be easily his high point in getting his ideas an airing in challenging circumstances. One has to wonder if a more day to day interaction between Mitt and DV would have benefitted Mr Romney in his day to day dealings. Something he struggled with. I wonder if there may be a limited sharing of your interaction with Mr. Romney or if that is out of the question from the start. I am also curious what “Big Ideas” the Dems won on. The campaign I watched had alot of smearing and lies and sidetracking on both sides. What “Big Idea” are you talking about?
