PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION Sept. 23-25, 2016) — Readers will recall our story earlier this week in which THE PLANET commented on the political motivations behind the Morningside “town meeting” regarding Walmart-PEDA. We based our coverage on reports from our spies in the room. The big news we saved to the end, that the Walmart deal will go through. For the moment, THE PLANET must leave it at that. We can’t tell you how we know, only that we know.

Considering the two councilors involved, we made sure our “criticism” of Ward 1 rep Lisa “I’m Not Linda” Tully and Ward 2’s Kevin “The Barber” Morandi would land softly as the dew upon the shimmering green grass of an early-fall morning. Morandi, who hasn’t been heard from since Floyd Lawson was knee-high to a barber pole, had no reaction. He never does. One of these days, someone will stick a mirror under his nose to see if he’s breathing.

Tully, however, had plenty to say. She mistook THE PLANET‘s kid gloves for brass knuckles.  And so it came to pass that she sent fan mail to this flounder with the subject line, “Your Insulting Blog.”

Dear Doug [sic],

I find it very sad that you would use your blog to insult me, who [sic] you barely know.  First of all, if you did your homework, you would know that I have regular meetings with Councilor Morandi including the budget, the new Taconic High School and the Walmart Proposal, just to name a few.  Secondly, I am not sure what you describe as a good city councilor.  In my opinion, a more important quality is listening then [sic] telling people what you think.  I also do my homework, research and vote in what I believe is the best interest of Ward 1 and the City.  I have never been one to grandstand.  If I remember our meeting when I first took office, I told you all the things I do for the community.  You asked me if you could let people know on your blog and I refused.     If you took a poll, and not on your blog, of people in my ward, I am confident you would not find a constituent that is unsatisfied with my representation, even if I did not vote their way.  As in any job I do whether nursing or City Councilor, I would not be satisfied if I could not give 100%. Let me assure you that I have no ambition to be anything more than a nurse and a ward councilor.

This being said, Let [sic] me ask you a question.  Do you like to insult people to grandstand and bring attention to your blog?  You accused me of politically grandstanding with this ward meeting, when I was just being a good representative of my ward.

Lastly, I will no long [sic] be answering any of your emails because you find me irrelevant and frankly now that’s how I regard you.

Sincerely,

Lisa Tully

THE PLANET thanks our Right Honorable Good Friend for her response. She presents a lot to chew on — like eating a marshmallow topped with a dapple of whipped air.

Tully is that endearing type of office-holder one finds when third-rate politics sink to the fourth and fifth tiers. She’s “well intended” (aren’t they all?) but not bright enough to understand the exigencies of Realpolitick. Consequently, she interprets THE PLANET’s comments emotionally, as a personal attack.

How smart? She’s going to “show” THE PLANET by-yumpin-yiminy. She “will no long [sic] be answering any of your e-mails.” That’s telling us! Like we’re going to go away. She apparently doesn’t fathom that such a response always — always — dooms a politician. Taking the political football and going home in tears of “wah-wah” doesn’t work with the press, kid.

Let’s see how this translates come November 2017, assuming she runs for re-election facing certain defeat. THE PLANET has ways of making these things happen, not that we have to — not for someone who has trouble putting her M&Ms in alphabetical order or takes 60 minutes looking at the orange juice carton because it says “concentrate.”

——– 000 ——–

With that, THE PLANET opens The Comment Line. Have a great weekend, everybody!

Even on the iberkshires site if you click on the article, at the bottom it says comments are closed for this article. They don’t want the public opinion on this issue. If you click on any of the older articles, you can still leave messages.

A man from Florida, a Mr. Bernard Carmell, was ALLOWED to leave a message on the Berkshire Eagle saying that he thinks that screening for refugees is very poor and I quote from his comment,

“This week, the Associated Press reported that the U.S. government mistakenly granted citizenship to at least 858 immigrants who had pending deportation orders from “countries of concern” to national security or with high rates of immigration fraud. This report is based on an internal Homeland Security audit released on Monday.”

Has anybody heard much about this in the local media?

“Mistakenly awarding citizenship to someone ordered deported can have serious consequences because U.S. citizens can typically apply for and receive security clearances or take security-sensitive jobs.

At least three of the immigrants-turned-citizens were able to acquire aviation or transportation worker credentials, granting them access to secure areas in airports or maritime facilities and vessels. Their credentials were revoked after they were identified as having been granted citizenship improperly, Roth said in his report.

A fourth person is now a law enforcement officer.”

This last quote was taken from another news source on this issue.

Our government does not have a handle on this situation because it is an imperfect system. There are No guarantees.

I read a pro CPA letter to the editor in today’s Eagle. I don’t understand how the advertised $14 per year for the average tax payer is correct. Is this fuzzy math? I tried to search for the ballot question, but can’t find.

$14 is a lot of money for some people. The only word that keeps popping up in my mind is corruption. Over and over and over again.

It’s supposed to be 1/2 of 1% of your real estate tax so $14.00 would be the number on $2800 tax bill. The only thing that holds me back from voting for it is the crybabies from Tyler Street trying to get it for St. Mary’s.

Thanks Tom, but is that 1/2 of 1% only for the first year because it would starting mid year for next year?

A little late here, but:
The CPA surcharge is on real property with the first $100,000 exempt. The $14 is based on the average residential assessment.
If your assessment is $100K or less, you pay no CPA surcharge.

Walmart wants to sell broccoli and lettuce and Tomatoes in a parking lot full of PCBS off of Tyler street. All this with no net gain for anybody except taging downtown Pittsfigeld as a suburban Walmart in your downtown .
This is the single worst idea anyone could come up with….we want to bring ColtsVille to downtown Pittsfield.

Anyone want to wager on the upcoming presidential debate? Will Hillary suffer a) seizure, b) coughing fit, c) fainting spell, d) uncontrollable eye movements, or e) all of the above? I’m betting on b) coughing fit!

Will she need assistance walking to the podium? Will she require a stool to sit on halfway through the debate? Will she be wearing an ear bud? Will her metal leg braces be visible under her trousers?

Trump for President!

Will the Donald talk issues or just bad mouth his opponent? Will he be “presidential” or continue to come off like a fourth grader who forgot his lunch box?

Clinton will be alandslide winner against trump. The results will show a very educated individual vs a pompous ass hole who has no business runing for President of the United States. He has gotten as far as he is because of the number of individuals who have no nervous tissue in their brain cavity. If by chance he wins- it will mean the death of the united states as the world powewr we know today. Putting Trump in office will be similar to the mistake we madeb here in Pittsfield -putting Linda TYER IN THE MAYORS OFFICE. She has been in office only 8 months and look at the damage she has done already. Everyone should pray that Trump is not elected. If he is elected the whole country will be in the mess that Pittsfield is in with incompetents holding all the elected offices. God help us if this happens.

Its Clinton and the progressives who are destroying the country. They are NOT intelligent AT ALL. They are allowing refugees into the country that they have no way of vetting properly and we have no border security. We are in for some dangerous times just like they are having in Europe. The progressives have no idea how to create jobs and the economy isn’t healthy.

Clinton cannot be trusted and has a serious problem with telling the truth about anything. I am not happy with Tyer, but Clinton will be much worse.

Go Trump.

Well the press and Hillary supporters as well as the 16 other candidates who ran against Trump have consistently under rated him by not taking him seriously. \

That is a big mistake.

Trump will win the debate as a result.

I say this as a Jill Stein (green) candidate for president. Jill will not win but she is the best candidate. I think she and Gary Johnson (libertarian) take votes away equally from Trump and Hillary so that’s a wash.

Prediction that Trump will be the new president. Not what I want but I’m a realist.
