PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION JAN. 27-29, 2017) — THE PLANET is still a week away from our trip to Texas, Houston for an activity involving a certain football team, but we didn’t have to travel that far for some Texas-sized hooey emanating from Shire City — you know, the muni Where All is Utopiastic!(R)

‘Safe’ Compared to What, Exactly? — A day after the latest high-speed chase, gunfire, and shooting (from cop to creep) that ended in a children’s park, a day after an armed robbery at a Tyler Street variety store located not far from a suspicious fire that cindered a heavily insured building that had been up for sale or rent, Mayor Linda Tyer went on the telly proclaiming Pittsfield is “safe.” Now you know, and THE PLANET knows, that Pittsfield is almost as safe as Beirut. Safe? The Lovely Linda doesn’t and couldn’t believe that which she proved with a slip of the tongue. Tyer said Pittsfield was “relatively safe.” Ouch. Presidents can hire THE PLANET for speech coaching, but the encrypted officials of Pittsfield would never think to ask. By putting the adjective “relatively” in front of a conditional noun (“safe”) she’s admitting she doesn’t believe its safe one bit. We could go all Noam Chomsky with the explanation, but we won’t. Suffice it to say that the mayor has little conception of what her words mean with respect to reality. One last observation: You know The Lovely Linda wouldn’t have been allowed to make such a false claim without challenge on PLANET VALENTI TELEVISION. There such a false statement would have turned the mayor into   eulogized toast.

Crowne Plaza Foreclosure — We got a tip this week telling us the Crowne Plaza, the superstructure that anchors the mall at South and West streets, faces foreclosure. That’s an “F” word. Foreclosure indicated the hotel owners have stopped paying back their loans. The lienholder either by law or court order has in turn forced the Crowne to sell it assets used as collateral for the borrowed money. The sale is to take place on Feb. 22. Knowing how “everything’s coming up roses,” the mayor’s office, city council, and school committee will spin this a great news for the city. The stupid asses will claim it as confirmation for their brilliant initiatives, including taxes that are driving both businesses and homeowners into, well, foreclosure.

‘Kiosk’ — Is that a Russian word for ‘Stoopit?’ — Speaking of Beautiful

Pussyhats in Beautiful Downtown Pittsfield. Yikes. Ugg Lee? Your clothes will wrinkle. Your watches will stop.

Downtown Pittsfield (BDP), ask the corner office and council how the parking kiosks are working out? Great they’ll say. Because so few people want to pay for the privilege of coming to center city and risking life, limbs, and other appendages, city officials will boast that all the freed-up parking spots make snow-removal easier. THE PLANET has investigated the first month of the stultifying kiosks. Total flop. The revenues just aren’t there. Anecdotally, you will notice that where you find the parking machines, you won’t find parked cars. The kiosks on North Street, Wendell Avenue Extension, and other high-traffic areas consistently reveal a dramatic drop in parked vehicles. Fewer cars = fewer people. Fewer people = even less foot traffic for the ghostly BDP. Conversationally, talk to downtown merchants. They hate the infernal devices.  They say business has dropped compared to last year by up to 50%. Look forward to more closings this year, especially after Tyer and the council pass another tax-happy budget. Whenever the city loses another business or store, we can say they did “the Crowne Plaza thing.”

Not Here, Baby, Not Yet — One of the best early actions of many by President Donald Trump is his order temporarily freezing federal money going to so-called “santuary cities.” These are Kumbaya-type snowflake communities who love pussyhats and unvetted anybodies … and nobodies. Trump also ordered a 30-day hold on refugee programs of the kind naively embraced by Pittsfield, which wants to accept Syrians who would otherwise be illegal. This country has a process and immigration and naturalization. Without secure borders, proper vetting, and a legal process, there won’t be a country. For his first week in office, Trump gets an A+.

With that, THE PLANET invites you to have your say. The Comment Line is now open. Have a great weekend, everybody.

Some refugees were detained at JFK airport today after Trump’s order. Why is Pittsfield above the law?

I suggest that some of these city officials join the military and do tour overseas and then let’s see how anxious they are to have people from that area come here .

No, it’s the liberals creating chaos because they refuse to give up on their idea of continuing to bring potentially dangerous people into the country. They will not let it go. They will not accept our new president who won the election fairly.

and the Berkshire Eagle even spent a little extra money and used the color ink for his picture in the paper. They went out of their way to discredit the guy because he bothered city officials.

Can he be a pain in the butt? Yes. Should he have been removed from the meeting? Yes. Did the Eagle need to embarrass him even more? NO. Would they have done this to someone with political connections NO. Is the Berkshire Eagle a large part of what is wrong with Pittsfield? Yes it is and there is no sign that will ever change which is why I do not buy it.

The idea of having a police presence at the council meetings was started by Melissa Mazzeo who became terrified one time when someone from the public raised their voice in anger during one of the meetings. So now they are hauling off and making a mockery of a veteran to set an example for anyone who might get a little upset during a meeting. They have wanted to get rid of Gaetani for a long time and he has now been banned from the meetings.

If only this city didn’t give people so many issues to be angry about . If only this city cared enough about the elderly, its veterans, and the working class as they do about illegal immigrants and now refugees.

School dept.spending money on programs that we can’t afford.Councilor Amuso and Yon think every idea Curtis and Eberwien came up with was awesome.Everyone not wanting to be considered dumb just wouldn’t ask questions.Yon thanks everyone for their hard work.Marchetti better man up and act like he knows finances.Kroll thinks everyone has his money to spend and is quite immature on money matters of the poor.White knew enough to flee the hood.
Pittsfield is not safe mayor and Tyler street proved that when only 400 people went to the Halloween parade there.Put it back on North where 20,000 people would go.Tyler street and hood should be changed to crazy street…just ask White and Marchetti.

There was a fire in a mosque in Texas overnight. Fire officials said it would be a few days for them to determine the cause. Maybe we could send them our people who could figger out the cause in a few hours.

The Massachusetts legislature (including our own Tricia Farley Bouvier) pad their pockets while asking more of Mass. taxpayers. This will make Rosenberg and Deleo the highest paid state lawmakers in the nation. I actually liked Deleo at one time because he stopped the tax happy progressives from putting a tax on candy because he knew it would hurt the lowest income people the most, but it is obvious that Rosenberg is being a corrupting influence on him.

http://newbostonpost.com/2017/01/26/bacon-hill-part-deux-baker-will-veto-dems-veto-proof-pay-raise-package/

Baker can try to veto this, but will have to get people to change their votes since they made sure they had enough votes to make it veto proof. If only they worked that hard to save us money. How about they go after the cable companies that are socking it to consumers and will be making it nearly impossible for some to even watch television in the future.

This is just the beginning with the Mosque as our new president has begun and promotes nervousness and anxiety and fear of all things. He already has a fear of shaking hands with people and th his disorder with Trump is well documented..
Where is my huge tax cut and where are the Pittsfield jobs you all feel are on the way.Tyer feels the same way about Trump employment. All the regressive brought GE to Boston for 50 million for 700 jos.Tell the mayor that there are 1500 jobs in pittsfield and 1300 of them are those wierd sales jobs that no one gets paid for unless they sell the Brooklyn Bridge to a moron.

I wonder where the State of Massachusetts gets there money. That just shows you how smart he thinks the taxes payers are. Time for the school department to think outside the box and make some real cuts that have savings for years.

The superintendent said they have a school committee that thinks outside the box ….he has good schmooze techniques and owns the committee the way that Eberwien own Amuso and Yon
