‘FANTASTIC FOUR’ RISE TO OCCASION ON SEWER-UPGRADE VOTE … MAZZEO, MORANDI, CONNELL, RIVERS PUT CITIZENS FIRST, DEFEATING DISASTROUS ATTEMPT AT UNNECESSARY $80 MILLION PROJECT

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION MARCH 2-4, 2018) — In like a idiot, out like an imbecile. Not March, which — welcome — came in lamb-like, but the Tyer Administration‘s pursuit of an $80 million sewer facility upgrade. Our Right Honorable Good Friends on the city council on Tuesday handed mayor Linda Tyer a major political setback that guarantees her lame duck status for the remainder of this year and next. That 80 grand pension has to be looking good to The Lovely Linda.

Tyer pushed hard for the The Good Old Boys, stooping so low as to request the EPA to write a letter to council president Peter Marchetti threatening Pittsfield with vaporization should the council turn down the proposal. What kind of mayor does this? THE PLANET agrees that it’s a rhetorical question.

The Tuesday vote required a supermajority — eight out of 11 — to pass. Fortunately, this council had four members take their responsibility as representatives seriously. Folks, you can thank Melissa Mazzeo (at large), Kevin Morandi (Ward 2), Chris Connell (Ward 4), and Donna Todd Rivers (Ward 5) for their courageous action. Voting to screw taxpayers were, in order:

  • Helen “Cookie” Moon, Ward 1. Cookie munched on fortune crackers for the debate, winning election in part with the promise that she would do as ordered on the sewer project. She tried to “carry the water,” but found out too late that soggy cookies don’t work as ammo in serious polemics.
  • Nick “Mulligan” Caccamo, Ward 3. Mulligan pulled off an amazing feat. He lowered his worm-belly handicap while at the same time 8-putting on 18. Mulligan is the laziest councilor since he won election in 3 the first time out.
  • John “Pretty Boy” Krol, Ward 6. Pretty Boy was smart enough to see the writing on the wall but not strong enough to ignore “His Master’s Voice.” Rumor is that RCA Victor has dropped him from the label.
  • Tony “Roads” Simonelli, Ward 7. Tony Roads hasn’t been this flummoxed since THE PLANET dodged his tag on a pick-off attempt in a 1965 Babe Ruth League game at Deming Park, GEAA vs. city champ Union Federal.
  • Peter “Puffball” Marchetti, at large. “Roses are red, a tub is a sink. Some like it blue. Puff likes it pink.” Puffball as council president is like Lawrence Welk fronting Metallica.
  • Earl “The Pearl” Persip, AL. Pearl celebrated Black History Month by making it. On the sewer issue, he cast the most ignorant vote by a Negro since Sammy Davis Jr. chose to become white and Jewish.
  • Peter “Ghost” White, AL. Ghost was so scared of this vote that he submitted a late petition to allow “Emotional Comfort Dogs” to sit on the council dais. After fetching the mayor’s slippers, the dog bit him in the face.

It was a battle fit for DC or Marvel: The Fantastic Four battling The Lovely Linda and her hench persons — Cookie, Mulligan, Pretty Boy, Tony Roads, Puffball, The Pearl, and the Ghost.

Mazzeo, Morandi, Connell, and Rivers — The Fantastic Four — went into the issue with open minds. They gave constituents a textbook case on how to handle a complex issue. They did their homework, considered the options, heard the testimony, asked the tough questions, pointed out the inconsistencies on the other side, and did the right thing for Pittsfield, Mass. On the basis of this vote, any one of the four might want to issue a declaration of mayoral intent for 2019.

The Housatonic River is full of deadly chemicals! GE put excessive amounts of PCBs- chemicals in there. The EPA allowed most of GE’s toxic waste chemicals to be capped. The problem with capping chemical pollution sites is that the caps do not last forever. Moreover, the caps need to be monitored daily from day one! The EPA changed its rules on Pittsfield’s wastewater chemical discharges into the Housatonic River. What if the EPA makes further changes in the future? Would Pittsfield have to pay another $80 million for yet another upgrade project?
On the subject of the lovely Linda Tyer, I disagree with Dan Valenti’s harsh criticism of her as Mayor of Pittsfield. Like all of the other messes she has to deal with for the past 2-years, 2-months, she inherited the wastewater upgrade project. What was she supposed to do? Tell off the EPA for being disingenuous about chemical pollutants in the de facto Superfund site Housatonic River?
If you are given a bad hand in poker, what are your options other than to fold your cards? I actually feel bad for Mayor Linda Tyer because she inherited mess, after mess, after mess, after mess,…
Pittsfield politics is ran by the Good Old Boys network. They serve the vested and special interests 100% of the time, while the people who are supposed to own their government are left marginalized and voiceless.
To blame the lovely Linda is totally myopic!

What has changed? For many decades, Pittsfield politics has been totally predictable! They raise the operational budget by 5% per fiscal year. They raise debts by tens of millions of dollars per fiscal year. They give the benefits to the vested and special interests. They give the costs to the disenfranchised taxpayers. This has been going on for years! I agree, the lovely Linda Tyer hasn’t changed things for the better. Rather, she is continuing Pittsfield’s high spending and large debts!

This issue was a watershed moment. It conclusively identified the special interest politicians who have totally forgotten their oath of office.

I was not sure which way Moon would go for sure but she did confirm my suspicions that she is owned. Krol, Marchetti, Caccamo and White shocked no one with their loyalty to the establishment and disdain for the people they are supposed to serve. Tony Simonelli was the one that surprised me.

So thank you to the councilors who stood up for the taxpayers. I am sure it took courage though it should not, just to do the right thing.

So, after Gaetani and the troops emulsified any idea by The Mayor and clueless City Council, and after the seven tried to put the fear into the taxpayers future, one of which could send many right the hell out of here, we must ask ourselves? What kind of leadership and CityCouncil would vote not knowing what the rates would be if approved? One should not fear going forward, the hard part is done, now is the time to negotiate, isn’t that what Trump does? It’s called a deal. It was irresponsible for a representative of the City to actually believe it’s ok to vote on something, not knowing the personal cost, the capital cost, which could include contingency costs blank checks, and simply going in blind, with no expertise on our side, but wait, we did have someone. The Builder of the Plant.
We can all ignore Gaetani’s contribution to the latest goings on, but believe me he is the SIGS worst nightmare, going forward my suggestion is get the hell out of way, he has much more info not released. Going forward I see him giving many tidbits to the four Council members, the drinking plant will be even easier to pass,if EPA or anyone else trying to break the rate payers back, they better be ready for a ton of clarity!

Progressives want everyone fighting over race and gender. Progressives want big government and very strict gun control. Progressives NEED big government so everyone is dependent on big government. Progressives know that if you are dependent on big government you will NOT bite the hand that feeds you so in this way Progressives will stay in power. It’s all about the power and money and gullible people truly believe that big government will save us all.

We need to put more faith in each other to solve our problems and STOP relying on government to solve them for us. Make government small and manageable for both parties and everyone will be much happier and healthier.

No I really do not like the Progressive philosophy.

If you are truly afraid of a president then we should make sure presidents in the future do not have too much power whether the president is Republican, Democrat, or Independent. Barack Obama started the whole process of overstepping presidential authority by saying who needs congress when I have my phone and a pen. Democrats cheered him on because he was “their” guy. It’s a different story though when it’s the other side with the power.

Hey Pat, you keep talking about big government. What do you think government should be doing? In your Conservative structure, with what duties would the Federal government be charged. And I think you are incorrect on your first sentence above. Progressives do not want everyone fighti g over race and gender. We want everyone to give each race and gender equal opportunity. Thats it. Conservatives have always pushed back on this and made it a fight, from the civil rights movement and school integration and Jim Crow down to gay marriage and transgender rights. We are not trying to pick fights on it, we are just trying to assure that every human being in the US is afforded their constitutikknally buaranteed right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. It’s the conservatives who fight it.

Government should do as little as possible. Mailing out social security checks (they can handle that), plowing and infrastructure improvements (IF ONLY government would actually DO THAT it would be a miracle), being a watchdog for consumer safety, and finding ways to keep the economy healthy and fresh ideas on jobs creation. Job creation is especially critical right now and will become even more so in the future. The whole world of work is changing and government needs to get on the ball and figure out what people are going to do once machines and robots take over more and more jobs. So get rid of social engineering and do practical issues that are becoming more critical by the day.

Things that government should not do: government should not be continually trying to force some political ideology down our throats. Trying to shape and mold us into their creation in order to give themselves power. Social engineering needs to go. People are truly sick of being MANIPULATED by government.

Mr. G,
Let me address a few of your remarks. Progressives HAVE made an issue of gender and race. We now have reverse racism, where people are hired because they are a minority. We now have the “white supremacist” narrative to justify the push for reverse racism. Another progressive push is for transgender rights – when there is no such thing as a transgender. You are born either male or female – and certain individuals choose to become something that they are physically not. Yes, everyone in the US is guaranteed a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness – you are correct. But then why do Progressives push for abortion rights? Doesn’t that living human being inside the mother have a right to life?
Why do we have the “Four Freedoms Coalition” in Pittsfield – which is actually AGAINST freedom of speech, unless, of course, you are anti-Trump and are a believer in their progressive causes mentioned above? This progressive group also lobbies for illegal immigrant rights, which is unconstitutional since they are here illegally and are not citizens therefore not given the same rights.
On a positive note, I do appreciate your willingness, Mr. G. to debate these issues in a respectful manner.

Wrong. “From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S’s: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.”

According to Dr. Vic Strasburger, a specialist in adolescent medicine, four main factors link all mass shooters together;

1) they have been abused or bullied,
2) they are mentally ill (may or may not be on drugs),
3) they are socially isolated,
4) they play violent video games

Another factoid; 5x as many murders have been committed using knives rather than guns, and thousands more have been killed by bombs.

So why is the focus on gun control?! It’s the leftist agenda; remove the guns, control the masses!

Well I hope Dan chews this article up and spits it out for all it’s worth.

http://www.berkshireeagle.com/stories/mccandless-seeks-1m-more-for-pittsfields-schools-budget,533678?

$400,000 for therapeutics? What exactly does that mean. Is that the politically correct way of troubled kids. And McCandles says it is a safety issue. How about finding the money in your 60,000,000 plus budget and finding more money in your budget for more cops if you need em so much.

And rising health insurance costs when they are stable elsewhere. Why doesn’t Jake da snake loose a few pounds and set the example for the other fat teachers?

School superintendent needs to be an elected position. Get rid of this bum ASAP. And for now take this money he wants out of his outrageous pay and benefit package.

Saw this somewhere by a Mary Harris, thought it was brilliant.
“Often the school shooters have been found to be the outcasts: the ones excluded, neglected and bullied. For sure none of them were the popular kids. So I’ve got a suggestion for all those students walking out of school today in protest. How about walking right back in and befriending some of those students you leave out at recess and never sit with at lunch. Those you laugh at and make snarky remarks about within earshot. Wanna change the climate of your school? Then get your asses back in there and BE NICE TO EVERYONE!”

I agree completely. Save with the women’s movement. Nobody can be more cruel to women than other women. Treat each other kindly ladies.

McCandless will tell the committee and council its his job to get the money and spend it in a way that considered beneficial to the kids. Its the Mayor and the Council that need to tell him he is a Department head with a budget and if he cant be a department head and provde excellent education if budgets did not grow in a city where every child qualified for Free Lunch then will he resign immediately on this admission…..We neen a couple of councilors to get on board with the 4 that understand money and budgets

If Trump can’t create a job then JIV will. Has it come down to this, do we have to send the man accountable for saving over another 100 millions plus (Gaetani) to show JIV how to do a budget, to? We don’t need teachers helper’s.

The question applies, did JIV layoff paras or not, where’s Kufflinks? JIV has his Budget that was voted on,Period,no kickbacks! We can’t patch our potholes for krist sakes? My truck took beating this year and who knows about rust underneath?

Let’s hope this so called savings at the Water Plants isn’t redirected to the Schools or any other projects that can’t be afforded at this time. it’s time to reign in the damn spending.

Voting block is the schools.Mayors- Reps – State Senate -D A- elected by the voteRs who are the schools, for the most part. Without the schools votes, Mayors won’t be elected and won’t get that fat pension, capiche? Do we have to unleash the Quarterback from the News Hour on the Schools?

The rationale was that it would attract better candidates. How’d that work out?
