TRUMP’S SYRIAN BLUNDER AIN’T NO ‘MISSION ACCOMPLISHED’

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE MONDAY APRIL 16, 2018) — Trump blundered.

That’s the two-word synopsis of his decision to send 105 missiles against three sites in Syria, a strike responding to Syrian president Assad’s use of chemical weapons. How different from the President’s prior views of the country, going back even before the campaign trail. Candidate Trump said involvement in Syria was a mistake President Obama made but one he would not repeat. Trump even pledged to remove the 2,000 U.S. troops on the ground in that once civilized nation.

Mission botched.

There is no U.S. strategic or even tactical interest in further involvement in the Middle East tar pits. Presidents Bush I and Bush II got us over there, the latter in 2003 riding high the nauseating wave of jingoism following the events of Sept. 11, 2001. Trillions of dollars later, and what does Uncle Sampson have to show for it: Thousands of U.S. troops killed or maimed, more than a million civilian deaths, chaos in Iraq following the fall of Saadam, an emboldened Iran, embroilments in the region’s impossible sectarian politics, and now, a deepening of a flawed involvement in Syria.

Trump will be taught a lesson his predecessors failed to learn, that it’s easy to get into conflict but, especially in the Mid East, nearly impossible to get out. The President and his predecessors before him cite ISIS terrorism the season. How ironic. It was our presence in Iraq that created the power vacuum handily filled by the fanatics of the Islamic, an entity that would never have been created except for U.S. meddling. True, ISIS constitute a fighting force, but the renegade “nation” consists of five parts PR, propaganda, and publicity; four parts politics and religious ideology, and one part troops and materiel. Even that that, THE PLANET is being far too generous to ISIS’ military component.

The so-called “War on Terrorism” is nothing but a war against an idea. Because you can’t fight an idea, you can’t defeat it on the battlefield. In a perverted way this suits the oligarchs and war planners behind the U.S. efforts, who can reply of the “War on Terrorism” to keep in high gear the economy generated by the conflict — future trillions that will feed the pigs who suck on the swollen tits of the War Machine.

Can anyone explain Syria’s seven-year civil war? Do you know anything about Bashir Assad? Do you know the participants? Or why they’re fighting? Or why it matters to the United States? Can anyone demonstrate that our military involvement there serves the national defense of America? To date, no one has given satisfactory answers. We are expected once again to be loyalists to the Fatherland — rather, the Homeland (as chilling a word for this country that one could imagine).

The national defense of the United States should be limited to our shores. Period. It used to said that America couldn’t afford isolationism, especially with the intertwined ball of yarn that is the global economy. That’s accepted almost without question. THE PLANET, however, questions that assumption. Where is that fearless economist who will point out that the networked nature of the global economy makes possible and even advisable an isolationist America, a country that avoids “foreign entanglements,” deals with every nation on amicable terms, and stands ready to defend our shores.

Dollars and the products and services that both spend and earn dollars no longer require the physical presence of bricks, men, and mortar to the degree that they once did. Trillions spin around the world each day via blips and photons on computer screens. Take the trillions wasted on military adventurism out of the equation, and “poof!” gone in an instant be the need for this country to police the world.

Trump will be taught but doubtful he will learn. For the blow of hot air aimed at Syria, he tweeted the words he will never live down, a phrase tortured into a sentence by its verb-understood syntax and grammar, two words that echoed the colossal failure of George W. Bush standing in his flight jacket on the deck of an aircraft carrier: “Mission Accomplished.”

THE PLANET shudders.

Well said Dan. Isn’t it amazing that less than a week after Trump declared his intentions to pull U.S. forces out of Syria, that a chemical attack occurred (with no confirmation/no proof of who was responsible for it) and Trump then changed direction and agreed to attack. The Globalists would like nothing better than to start WW 3 in Syria.

False flag phoney school shooting trying to get guns banned continues under Trump. Its all fake news. Phoney.

It does not matter who is President because its the same agenda. You been fooled. Misled. Deceived.

How many years have we been entangled in the horrific mess in the mid east? How many Americans have died there and how much suffering for their families while they were there and since they came home?

I have heard from 3 to 7 trillion dollars it has cost our country…money that could have gone towards our infrastructure and medical research and energy independence.

Can anyone name one good thing that has resulted from our being over there this long? (not counting the billions Dick Cheney and his Haliburton friends got as defense contractors)
Questions I have. Have we made any friends? Why are countries like Saudi Arabia not involved? Is the reason we are really there because of Israel?

Too much money, too much death and sorrow with nothing to show for. If it were up to me I would pull out and let nature take its course. There is no way to make a region with 25 different religious beliefs get along with one another without having most of them hate you. Getting out would be the best first step towards making American great again.

Trump called FBI director Comey a scumbag in public because he said that Trump could not tell the truth, he just can’t do it.He lies about all things big and small and Trump expects Americans to believe them.
Comey is telling the American people that Trump is not morally qualified to be President and is the 1st person to hold that office where he felt the President of the United States of America that could be blackmailed by Russia.Trump is believed by 60 million Americans and he expects loyalty.

Dan V. I completely disagree. “Mission Accomplished” ONLY referred to what President Trump and his military personnel KNEW was a limited attack just to send a message to that region to stop the use of chemical weapons on their citizens. They had no intention of going in and destroying the entire stockpile which would have been impossible without serious loss of life. “Mission Accomplished” referred to sending a message about using chemical weapons. That was accomplished. As usual the liberal media latches onto anything to put down President Trump. A

It wasn’t just our country, but France and England as well who did the air strikes. I agree that the United States SHOULD NOT be the police of the world. Other countries need to step up. I posted the other day that I thought we should stay out of this, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that sending a message that murdering people with these horrific weapons is so horrible that we can’t stand by and be silent. Dying from these weapons is often a slow agonizing death.

That said, we should not get involved in a war with any of these countries. We have sent the message and there has been no loss of life. Standing by and watching them murder each other will be difficult if that is the dark path they choose to go down, but I liked President Trump telling Russia to choose your friends wisely because they are leading you down a dark path. Very well said President Trump.

Pat
Pat

In addition Liberals are pushing President Trump, totally unlike they DIDN’T push President Obama, to be TOUGH on Russia. Russia then told our country to back down or we would regret it. To leave Syria alone. Hypothetical, but what would the liberal media have said if President Trump had backed down from this threat from Russia? How about something like, “See how President Trump backs down when Russia speaks?” “I wonder what Russia has on him for him to do that?” “See how President Trump is afraid of Russia. What a coward”. Those would likely have been your leading headlines in the liberal media if Trump had called off the airstrikes.

The liberal media is leading this country down a DARK PATH by constantly berating this President for NOT being tough on Russia and Putin. Then if we did get involved in a war with this region, they would be calling him a warmonger. The liberal media needs to stop playing partisan games.

Partisan games Pat? Fox news has a board meeting with the hosts BEFORE the show where they get all their liberal bashing points. But they sound like idiots when they get on the air and try to put them across because they do not jive with the reality everyone sees in front of their very own eyes. Fox news talks to a specific audience…one they know cannot differentiate bullshit from reality. And that is so very sad for the country. It is also treasonous.

Dusty, FOX news IS much more fair than CNN or MSNBC or ANY of the mainstream media. If you don’t think that Rachel Maddow or Joe and Mika are speaking to a SPECIFIC audience, Progressives who hate President Trump, then you are being fooled.

If you want to hear what sounds like idiots listen to Joe and Mika or Rachel Maddow on ANY day. Mika was last accusing President Trump of planning a first strike against North Korea right before the big meeting planned between this country and the North Korean leader. No, they are not trying to undermine this country or anything are they? Rachel Maddow was just recently accusing President Trump of trying to distract the country from his domestic issues by firing missiles on Syria. No, there is no agenda there.

Yeah…but thats true Pat. Lobbing missles is a tried and true distraction, and also a battle cry to rally around an embattled president in a “time of war.” Dan has this exactly right. Military spending drives our economy and has for a very liong time. The military industrial complex calls the shots and has for a long time. That pig needs to be fed; hungers for more and mkre constant feeding and will not be denied.

As long as the CEOs of Grumman, General Dynamics, Haliburton and several others walk away annually with $25 million to function as a department of the US government, our tax dollars will be wasted there while our infrastructure continues to collapse. Dan is right; Mission Accomplished my ass!

By that thinking Mr. G, maybe we should just give up our military completely and be taken over by other countries. Would you be OK with that? Russia would love to take us over. North Korea too would have a not very nice way of treating us without the might of our military? Don’t you think?

Pat, we spend more than the next 5 largest- spending nations combined on military defense. We could, alone, destroy the planet 10 times over. Add to that the fact that the idea of “taking over” the US is an antiquated notion. I agree about the kooky North Koreans, but they certainly can’t take us over and one bomb would destroy the entire peninsula. But the Russians have essentially become a crime syndicate, like the Mafia. They are only interested in tbe money, the ruling class anyway, and not for the betterment of the people and the nation. I believe it is becoming very much the same here. The ruling class is skimming as much money as possible off the top. And damn the roads & infrastructure, damn education, damn the hungry, the homeless, the veterans, those money-grubbing old people and the pesky middle class too. At the top, the Russian oligarchs and the American ones just want to split up the spoils; the oil, the water, the precious metals, etc. Are you willing to be incenerated in a suabble like that? Cut the military, feed the hungry, fix the roads and bridges and make first class health care available free to all.

That doesn’t mean being a total isolationist, but he needs to avoid a war.
