NEW D.A. TAKES OFFICE; NOW ITS TIME TO DELIVER … AND SHE BETTER AFTER ALL THE CAMPAIGN PROMISES

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, The Weekend Edition Jan. 4-6, 2019) — On Tuesday, Andrea Harrington was sworn in as Berkshire County District Attorney.

Took the solemn oath. Pledged. Pinky promised. Triple-dog-dared.

You know, what politicians secretly call “lying.”

THE PLANET need not remind anyone.

———- ooo ———-

Harrington comes in as the first woman to hold the office. She nominated a woman prosecutor from Hamden County as top deputy, or was it Hampshire? Who cares? Split the difference. Women, in fact, are everywhere in the “new” D.A.’s office. The old rooms at 7 North Street have never seen as much glitter, fluff, puff, pom-poms, makeup, sensible heels, and pink swirls. Ellen DeGeneres and QVC have replaced CNN and The NFL Network.  Sources tell us that there are men in the office, though in these gender-bending times, we aren’t sure. We mention this only because the new D.A. has made gender so important.

It’s simple, really. White men are bad. Hard-working, middle-class folks are bad. Women and everyone else are good. Got it?

AH campaigned on protecting the rights of disadvantaged youth, women of color, “victims,” immigrants, transsexuals, LBTGQOLMNOPs, one-legged marathon runners, ballerinas, drug addicts, thieves, pocket poolers, pickleballers, trespassers, vandals, and other stalwarts. Harrington also made it clear she would not prosecute trespassing, theft, receiving stolen goods, malicious destruction of property, drug possession, intent to distribute, and a list of other crimes too ponderous to list. THE PLANET would remind the district attorney that NOT prosecuting these crimes won’t solve the issues that are now hers to fix.

If you’re white, male, middle class, pay taxes, and keep the law — any or all of these — surrender. In Harrington’s eyes, you have had all the advantages. You got where you are not by hard work but because it was “handed to you.” According to the new way, that makes you a racist, sexist, and whatever “ist” may be in fashion.

———- ooo ———-

Harrington won by promising miracles. The black-and-white campaign picture she sketched presented a caricature of the issues, a simplistic cartoon suggesting a Good Ship Lollipop view of crime. Her main stump theme was “ending the scourge of racial bias here in Berkshire County” and the alleged “school-to-prison pipeline.” That’s like the mayor identifying pickleball as the top municipal concern.

Harrington is more politician than prosecutor. That’s not a knock on her, because D.A. is an elected position. You have to campaign. Hustle. Shame yourself. Beg for votes. Kiss up to the Special Interests. Sell out. She did that, performing the thousand and one humiliations required. Paul Caccaviello either didn’t or couldn’t.

Once upon a time, wiseguy scribes like THE PLANET used to give newcomers to office a honeymoon in the first year, but that has gone the way of typewriters and steering-wheel knobs. The politicians bear the responsibility for the way they have abandoned Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski.

During the campaign, we heard stories illustrating the supposed grudge-bearing nature of the new district attorney. Remember her infamous phone call to Melissa Mazzeo? We got a tiny taste when she stopped communicating with us. She took her football and went home, ignoring two congratulatory (and heartfelt) messages from THE PLANET, wherein we went more than half way trying to mend the rifted press-public figure relationship she so desperately cultivated when she campaigned — when she NEEDED us. Insiders in Harrington’s inner circle told us she did this because she didn’t like our coverage of the D.A.’s race. Elephant’s memory and all that.

MESSAGE TO ANDREA HARRINGTON FROM THE PLANET:  During the campaign, you promised a miraculous transformation of crime-ridden Pittsfield and environs into The Wonderful Land of Oz. Now it’s time to deliver.

You go, girl.

The Gman tried to save the ratepayer 28 million dollars but the secretary proudly stood up at the podium and said it is me who wants the 74 million dollar solution. She couldn’t articulate one reason for choosing the over priced solution. The Wiz caught her in an outright lie and called her a liar. The only person in this city and on this thread who holds public officials accountable is the Gman. Actually the Wiz wanted to bring another proposal to the city that would have saved the city over 100 million dollars. He was going to propose that the city turn the sewage plant into a combination sewer _water plant and close the. Its two drinking water plants that he built. He claims all the infrastructure is in place to consolidate the facilities. Further the sewage water after treatment could be treated by one more step turning it into drinking water. He felt this would be resisted by the public but he states that this is the scheme of the future. It is already employed by communities throughout the world especially in countries that have very arid climates. The Gman will vie for the water plant work and who better to be involved than he. One of the inventors designers and builders. The Gman is light years ahead of everyone not because he is my friend but because it is the truth. He is the tax and rate payers advocate. He always was , is and always will be.

Art,
Looking into your claims there are currently over 140 positions available for construction supervisors on water treatment projects at this current time. Thus a reasonable person could draw the conclusion that there are an equal number of projects currently underway or at least awarded after the bidding process. Let’s call that ramping up.
How many of those projects is the G–man involved in? How many are using the technology that he “proposed” here in our project?
Second set of questions as you are aware these plants should be designed forward looking and adaptable to newer standards, procedures and to the extent possible regulations. The claim is the G-man saved us millions on the water plants in the 80’s let’s for a moment cede that point for now simply as a point of conversation. Did the monies saved come at the expense of “future” adaptability for both technologies and conformance to generally accepted standards? How do we know the savings was in fact a savings? And not as they say “penny wise but pound foolish”?
Keeping in that realm some of big players in the water treatment game McCarthy, Layne and Garney to name a few are they using your services/methods? If so to what extent and why wouldn’t you have brought the technology they are currently building to your presentation? I mean really they have to give pitches routinely it’s fair to think that with this awesome technology they conferred with you regarding how to best sell this technology to governmental authorities’ right? Why not a representative from the water district or municipality that is currently constructing? I mean they must be both confident and proud of their decision to purchase this technology. As stated earlier and verifiable through Indeed.com there are currently 150 projects either underway or ramping up and no one was available to speak to these projects for you with all the connections that you have in the water world? Can you see why some might be a bit skeptical?
I hope that the G-man could get a representative from any of those projects on his show. I will post the links in a separate post as it is not allowing me to in this post.
Alas part of the public process is the bidding and the timeframes which were not met so it would all be for naught regardless.

Just sayin

Pat stop your nonsense. We all agree that we need borders. What we dont need is a fifth century wall that scump is proposing. Immigrant numbers have been dropping and the immigration problem is not anywhere near what scump is making it out to be. His claim that he can build the wall for 5 billion is just another of his over 6700 lies. I asked you sometime ago how it is that you support an individual who has told o er 6700 big ones. We who love the truth sorely need to know what it is about people like you who put their trust in an individual who is known as the lieingest person on the planet. Please do tell!!!!!

Gigi I think it is great the go fund me has raised 19 million. However the type of wall trump is mentioning will cost north of 25B. The immigrant problem is being way over blown. In fact the number of immigrants coming to this country is lower than it has ever been. Most people can’t comprehend how much 25B is. We could fund quite a few infrastructure in the US. Drones and satalite imagery are what is needed not 5th century wall technology. What do you think?????

Art,
Lets say the wall costs 25 billion no lets say double that 50 billion. How much is spent each year on healthcare to “unauthorized immigrants”? any idea? roughly 18 billion a year so now lets say the wall cuts off 60% of the illegal immigration that would be a net savings in healthcare alone of over 11 billion. so the wall would more than pay for itself over time think of it as an investment. And that’s just one area Healthcare there is education law enforcement etc. Try to help me reconcile your comments about being an advocate for the taxpayers and rate payers. Where is it you think this money is coming from? pennies from heaven? it is us the taxpayers who are picking up the tab. do the math 18.5 billion divided out by a population of roughly 330 million. tell us what is that number? then tell me why the water rate payers are going to the poor house but those same people are rolling in enough cash to pay for the healthcare of illegals?

Nancy’s Nuts. We need a machine gunner guarded wall and an electric fence on our side of the border, incase any pole vaulters get over the wall. This entire discussion is a joke. Any American against a wall should be shotup with a dose of common sense. Furthermore, evey illegal that overstayed their visa should be arrested and deported. The moment you overstay your visa, should be the moment an arrest order is issued for you, and it shoud be served by any cop, local, fed or state, that comes acroos your illegal butt.

I find it interesting to see Andrea Harrington’s photo being sworn in as Berkshire County’s District Attorney reveals her total lack of knowledge of basic courtroom procedure. Surely had she ever been in any courtroom before she would have known she was suppose to take her oath of office raising her right hand and not her left hand as was the case at last Tuesday’s swearing in ceremony.
This her first major blunder doesn’t say much for her experience.

If this really happened, and there is no physical reason for it happening, it is way more than a simple “break from tradition”. This shows a person who hasn’t even been in a courtroom enough to know witnesses are directed to raise their right hand when being sworn, and affirms that she is totally unprepared for the position. I wish her luck. She is going to need it.

Very funny. You are 100% wrong. What she did WAS a simple break from tradition and nothing more. There is no legal basis for raising one’s right (or left) hand when taking an oath. Or putting a hand on a bible. It’s simply tradition. Only the spoken words matter.

I think she’ll need less luck than you imagine.

Two wrongs, in their world. does make a right. Yeah!!

While others are AH’s staff raised their right hands, she can’t help but be the oddball. That’s not a good way to start a new job; especially a district attorney.

Gotta love spin control. And why were special lighting in place? If in fact Cicero’s correct.

I’m still stuck on Band Aids, and the fact that AH’s hubby told his audience that she “passed the Florida, New York State, and Massachusetts bar in three consecutive days.” I’m just curious why this was omitted from her campaign literature.

So, AH was admitted to the Florida bar in 2004, and the Mass. bar in 2007. Yet there is not record of she sitting for the NYS bar, at any time. Interesting!

Cicero, help me reconcile the crapping lighting (right), the left hand raising, and claims of multiple bar passing within three days.

Gotta love spin control.

Dan,

All the crimes you mentioned in your post, she will be going easy on, because they are all “non-violent” crimes, so whether she drops the charges, or just give a slap on the wrist, there really ain’t much difference. The specific crimes don’t really matter, as long as they are non-violent, people can expect a get a get out of jail free card. These are Harrington’s own works, straight off her web site, and she didn’t say she would go an a case by case basis, she wrote that would end incarceration for non-violent offenses, period:

“End incarceration for non-violent offenses. End the school-to-prison pipeline. Implement bail reform by ending cash bail for low-level and low-risk offenders, ending practices that disproportionately penalize low-income individuals.”

She also claims she is going to end the war on drugs, and that the high crime rate and opioid problem in the Berkshires proves the former DA’s methods were failures. I guess that means that when she is up for re-election, if we still have a serious opioid problem and a serious crime problem, then she is a failure too, right?

Scumps greatest fear is that if he is impeached in 2019 it means that Letitia James can go after him for criminal activity 5 years back. She has made it clear that she will go after anyone in scumps orbit including scumps spawn. Cohen says scump is his unindicted co conspirator. He is going away for 3 years and it is very possible scump will get double the sentence as he was the major perpetrator. If is said that the southern district has a minimum of 7 criminal charges that we are not even aware of but we will know when Mueller releases his report. It is said that scump is becoming unhinged and very worried about his family going to prison. The scumps have broken the law without impunity and have never been brought to accountability but all of that is going to be brought to the test. It is also said that he owes blue collar workers billions that he screwed them out of their livelihoods with at least four bankruptcy. Many people in new York are licking their chops as they see the wheels of justice coming closer and closer to scump and spawn and they can’t wait until scump is hauled off to prison. I think that may come sooner than even they think

Bill the streets are not safe and never will be as long as the secretary and Wynn are in charge. The Gman found a company that would give the city free body cameras but these two goons never acted on the company’s offer. He also tried to get the city to initiate boots on the ground in the morning side and westside neighborhoods to no avail also. If the Gman had been elected mayor the city would be in a upswing instead of the downward spiral we presently are experiencing. What can anyone expect with a secretary pretending to be a chief executive. The irony is that the Gman is a retired successful corporate executive. He also hopes that the secretary runs again.

Art,

Please tell us the financial burden placed upon the taxpayers to incarcerate these Illegal’s? You tell anyone who will listen that you are the only person who cares about the taxpayer when it comes to the water rates but yet are for these expenditures. Kind of makes one think that your water project wasn’t about the rate payers but about directing those funds to yourself and other “WOBSIGS”
I could be wrong I am still awaiting answers to my other questions while answering those please reconcile your other statements regarding watching out for the taxpayers

Just sayin

Art,
I guess that means that you can’t answer any of the questions posed to you?
They seemed fairly reasonable as part of an adult conversation.

The Gman has always been on the cutting edge of new technologies in the field of water and wastewater. He always sells to municipalities. The reason he wasn’t able to land this sewer project is the fact that the public has given up holding public officials accountable. They have been lied to so many times by this mayor and council in particular that they no longer participate in the democratic process. Additionally there are crackpots like many who post on this board who live just to criticise individuals like the Gman who always has the interests of the taxpayers at heart. I spoke to the Wiz this morning and he says the city has made a grave mistake in proceeding with the ballasted flocculation because it is very limited and is target specific for phosphorous. He sees down the road more EPA required standards that this technology can’t mitigate. His ozonator technology with just modest changes to the ozonator can meet just about any parameter the EPA may require in the future. That coupled with the fact that the ozonator brings the total project cost down by 28 million dollars should have been a no brainer but there is something more going on here that only a few are aware of. The Gman will have a petition at the CC meeting on Tuesday to try one more time to bring sanity to this project and as always trying to save the taxpayers hard earned dollars. Some of the loud mouths on this board should show their bravado at a city council meeting and show their scorn to the councilors the real criminals of the taxpayers. I predict we will not see what he of them there but the Gman will be there as usual

With all dew (misspelled as to tie in water) respect you are requesting people support you after you insult, verbally abuse etc. Those same people. Here’s an idea try answering the questions posed above

In November of this year there will be municipal elections for mayor and council. One thing we can be sure of is that the special interest groups and friends and families will be out in force to vote for those who will take care of them. Give them credit for looking out for themselves but they only represent approx. 7200 city residents. There are some 21000 registered voters who seem to never show up to vote in municipal elections and I assume they dont because they gave up on city politics long ago for a miriad of reasons. These 21000 residents hold the key to ending the long established policy of electing gobsig supported miscreants who do not have the taxpayers interest at heart. We all know who the councilors are that dont represent the taxpayer and we know that the present mayor bends to the whims of the special interests. We must find a way to get these ,21000 voters back into the game and we need to start thinking of ways to do it. Does anyone have any ideas??

Art,
No need to call people names and assume things in an attempt to dodge answering simple questions about your proposals.
You should be a professional if you want support at the council meeting. You haven’t answered the most basic of questions. You haven’t even accepted those questions you simply dodged called people names hurled insults and then you question why you have no public support? Art simply answer the questions or you will forever be known as a fraud

NYT. Says continuing scump presidency is worse than impeachment. I never thought of it that way but it makes a stark but true statement. I wonder in which month the impeachment process will commence????

Andrea doesn’t seem to want to actually keep her campaign promises, as to cases of spousal abuse which former office willingly failed to prosecute. Called and messaged her the other day, received a call from blocked phone message “ Lt Edward Culver from MSP at 7 north st ,you are ordered not to have anymore contact with district attorney Harrington”

Lt culver is a carryover from capeless/Caccaviello Regime, possibly trying to keep prior criminal behavior from being exposed.
Ms Harrington is naive if she believes any of prior Administrations people will be loyal to her. Why would an officer Conducting official business use a blocked phone number?

So the state police who are assigned to the DA’s office DO NOT work for the DA. they are state troopers who are just assigned to that office.

DA Harrington doesn’t need any of the Capeless / Caccavielko staff. She’s hired her Camapign Manager, Colin Caffery as an ADA, Dina Guiel (ran against Morandi in ward 2) as the spokesperson and ward 1 councilor Helen Moon as the sexual Assault / domestic violence lead person. Glad to see that she didn’t find it necessary to keep prosecutors who had more than 100 years experience on staff to help keep us safe! This is a shit show already!
