‘OCTOBER SURPRISE’ IN SEPTEMBER: DOUBTFUL ALLEGATIONS SET OFF ‘#ME TOO’ DOGS IN KAVANAUGH WITH HUNT

President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, U.S. District Judge Brett Kavanaugh, seemed headed for a smooth confirmation after the usual and grueling partisan grillings. You knew, though, in this present political climate, there would be The Surprise. You knew it. Senate Judiciary Committee Charles Grassley had scheduled a Sept. 20 vote for Kavanaugh, which the SJC would have approved and sent to the full Senate for confirmation. Until …
… until a 36-year-old allegation came out of nowhere, made by a far-left California psychology professor. She’s a resistance activist and Trump hater who now claims that in 1982, when she was 15 and Kavanaugh 17, he groped her at a party. No clothes were removed. Stop the presses.
She has given three different versions of the story. She can’t remember where the alleged assault took place. She can’t remember whose house it was. She can’t remember how she got there. She doesn’t even remember in what county the alleged incident took place. She has offered no independent corroboration. Since her allegations surfaced, most of her political activity has been scrubbed from her Internet and social media accounts.
The mellerdramer began when Christine Blasey-Ford wrote a letter to her congresswoman, SJC member Senator Dianne Feinstein, copying in The Washington Post and the FBI. The Post didn’t think the story rated publication. It didn’t meet their smell test. Same with the FBI, which decided not to investigate. Feinstein, though, decided to publish the letter just days before the SJC vote, after Blasey-Ford got religion, deciding it was her “civic responsibility,” which “outweigh[ed her] anguish and terror about retaliation.” In other words, she’s a True American Patriot.
And here we are, the American Body Politick, supposed to accept that. Even if the story was true, we’re supposed to believe that a 53-year-old man with a wife, two kids, and a respected career is the same person as a 17-year-old boy who had too much to drink at a high-school keg party. Think back to your 17th year. Now look at yourself today. Get the point?
Let’s call this for what it is: a witch hunt that leverages the spillage of the #Me Too movement for the purpose of exercising an intractable political hatred. That an innocent man has been excoriated in the process? Oh well. They just see it as acceptable collateral damage. And yes. Kavanaugh is innocent. That’s how our system works. Incredibly, Blasey-Ford’s attorney has told the press that it isn’t up to her client to prove the charges. She says that’s the job of investigators.
That alone reveals with a 99.99 degree of certainty that the charges are false. The barrister must know that you can’t disprove a false negative that someone else asserts. If Secret Tapes From Baltimore claims that there is a blue rhino running a fantasy sports league on the planet Venus, you can’t disprove it. Fortunately, reason would tell us we don’t have to. Secret Tapes, then, bears the responsibility of presenting convincing evidence supporting his case. Same with Blasey-Ford. She’s made the claim, and now she has to back it up with evidence beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Blasey-Ford’s tall tale exemplifies one of those Beltway Coincidences we can expect now with every election cycle. Or is it just happenstance that two clocks are running, and Democrats are playing the Four-Corners Offense? Clock 1 times the procedures governing Kavanaugh’s nomination. He has to be confirmed before Oct. 1, which is when the Supreme Court begins its new session. Clock 2 governs the mid-term elections coming up in early November. This is Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas all over again. Baseless charges have been made against a defenseless man and, even with acquittal, two good men must now bear the indelible, lifetime stain. If this is what happens when decent people get involved in politics, what sane person would want to run? You know the answer, and that’s why, at all levels of government, elections attract only that select group of thralls: Selfish, greedy, corrupt, insecure, delusional, out of touch — pick ’em. There are your candidates for office.
Kavanaugh has rigorously denied the allegations: “I did not do this in high school or at any other time. … I refute this allegation from 36 years ago, and [I will] defend my integrity.”
In all three versions of her story, Blasey-Ford claims one of Kavanaugh’s friends at the time, Mark Judge, was present. Judge issued a statement saying he never witnessed such an act and that he has no memory of the party she mentions.
SJC Chairman Sen. Charles Grassley invited both Blasey-Ford and Kavanaugh to publicly testify before his committee. Kavanaugh immediately agreed. Initial press reports said that his accuser agreed s well, and she made public remarks saying that she would publicly testify. Grassley set up hearings for Monday, but now Blasey-Ford has chickened out. Unless she changes her change and appears on Monday, the vote on Kavanaugh should proceed as scheduled, onIt’s not clear if the Monday hearings will take place if Kavanaugh is the sole panelist.
What would be the point of treating America to another made-for-TV political reality show that will outdo Ninety Day Fiance in incredulousness? Paddy Chaevsky had it right: Satire is no longer possible. Reality has far surpassed anything we can dream up.

I was thinking the same thing Dan that going after teenage behavior at a keg party is crazy especially when even Ford admits that she was afraid something was going to happen, but it didn’t. This is crazy. So many people are potentially in trouble if we are now going after teen keg party behavior from 36 years ago. No wonder she can’t remember anything about the exact details of what happened.
Democrats are trying to sway the vote by making members of congress fearful if they vote against a woman claiming sexual misconduct. What kind of precedent would this set if we allow people to come forward with these claims that can’t be proven and allow them to destroy lives?

The issue is abortion – and the Dems want to protect a woman’s right to choose at all costs. They see Kavanaugh as a threat to Roe vs. Wade and will do anything to stop him, including this lame claim which anyone with half a brain could see through. Even Justice Ginsberg, a flaming liberal, made comments on tape that she is disturbed by how overly political the proceedings have become. The judiciary committee should continue to follow the constitutional process and hold the vote! No more delays!

I was writing in his name anyway. The keys to victory are: 1) support from Attorney Knight 2) get out the Pittsfield vote 3) attack Attorney Harrington’s total lack of experience 4) avoid gaffes and force Harrington to make some 5) mend fences especially in Williamstown and Great Barrington and 6) campaign relentlessly.
He can win but I would estimate his chances at 30%.

He will win Pittsfield. He can spend time in Wmstown and GB. And he better accept and adopt the final point: CAMPAIGN RELENTLESSLY.

1. Kavanaugh now sits on the US Circuit Court of Appeals for DC, the highest court in the land save SCOTUS. He is not a US district judge. We’d call him an US appeals court judge.
2. Feinstein is not a “congresswoman,” she is a senator.
3. No requirement that he be confirmed before October 1, I don’t think. New justices can join at anytime, I’m pretty sure.
The plan here seems to be to stall/defeat the nomination until the November elections. If Dems can win back the Senate, then they can say the people have spoken and we need to wait for a new Congress before any SCOTUS nomination can be (re)considered.
And if the Dems can take the House, then, well, hell’s bells y’all, how can we accept any nominee when the president is going to be impeached? But not removed from office, for those a little light on the Constitutional process of impeachment by half+1 of the House AND conviction by 2/3 of the Senate.
Sorry, Edward, but Congressman or Congresswoman applies to either a Representative or a Senator. They both serve in Congress, which includes the House of Representatives and the US Senate.
Even if Kavanaugh is successful and is approved, the outrageous behavior of the liberal Dems has already started to damage them. And the anger felt by Trump supporters is growing every day.

BBC last night had an FBI guy on the radio. He said that the FBI investigates alleged FEDERAL crimes. And they ain’t one here with Kavanaugh.
FBI has an agreement with certain (all?) federal departments to do background checks on prospective fed employees, but the Senate also has it its own investigators, and they can go look into this.
But I think what Ford is aiming at is an FBI investigation of Kavanaugh generally–thus the longer it will take. Drag it out at least until the November elections.
But I have to believe this has already been done.

Cacc will run a write-in campaign against Harrington. Good for him. She only won by 700 votes. So many people who wanted to vote for him couldn’t because of the Republican ballot not having him on there. That could bring in a lot of votes for him. Others maybe thought he was a sure thing so didn’t bother to vote.
The race is winnable, but he has to run it well — not perfectly, but well enough to swing 350 votes. It can be done.
He couldn’t win with his name on the ballot. No way he wins with it off.

How does one vote for the write in candidate? Do you literally write it in on a piece of paper?
There will be a place on the voting ballot that will list Harrington’s name as District Attorney and underneath there is space for a write-in. You write his first and last name there. Be mindful of spelling the name correctly.

In The Weekend Edition, THE PLANET will explain more as we analyze Caccaviello’s chances in a sticker campaign. We like his odds, for a number of reasons. This isn’t the usual “protest” write-in campaign. He’s entering the general election with a lot of heavy artillery. It will require the will to pull the trigger. If PC enters gung-ho, he can win.

Older reports are more difficult to find, but in the last 6 years there have been 71 reported rapes at Williams, along with a number of “forced fondling” sexual assault complaints.

Whatever the exact number, not one case ever made it to a grand jury.

As to the Williams issue, first off, I remember reading a Washington Post article about campus sex assaults a year or two ago and was shocked to learn that Williams has the 5th highest per-capita rape rate in the country. In absolute terms, it has the 3rd most reported rapes of all schools in MA, despite the fact that it’s such a small school.
Had not thought too much about the prosecution side of it, but at a debate in Williamstown, Caccaviello threw Williams under the bus and used the college as an example of an institution that doesn’t work with police and law enforcement on behalf of sexual assault victims. He said they were an “obstacle” in the process.
A woman from Williams whose named escapes me responded with an editorial in the Beagle pointing to an interview from a few years ago where David Capeless said that every rape reported at Williams was forwarded to the police and then the Berkshire DA’s office. She also challenged Caccaviello to provide info on how many cases were investigated criminally and how they were resolved. We know that zero ended up in court being prosecuted, at least none that I have found.
Caccaviello has not responded to her challenge. Then there was another letter to the Beagle by a local attorney that pointed out the Williams Title IX stats, so I started looking into it myself and here we are.
I would definitely invite you to look into this and ask questions yourself. I don’t know about any unsealed records, but I will share with anything else I find – good or bad.
