BOMBACK’S BOMB GIVES COLONIALS DRAMATIC 3-2 WALK-OFF WIN IN 11th; FIREWORKS TOMORROW NIGHT IN SERIES FINALE

(PITTSFIELD, Mass., Sunday, July 3, 2011) — The C’s have a flair for the dramatic. This time, it was a Bomb from Bomback.
For the second straight night, the Pittsfield Colonials took a pulsating game Bill Buckner’s Brocton Rox at historic Wahconah Park, pulling out a 3-2 win in 11 innings.
After T.J. Wink blew a 2-0 lead in the ninth in trying to nail down what would have been a well-deserved win by a brilliant Chad Paronto (eight, four-hit shutout innings), the Colonials persevered, putting the game away on Danny Bomback’s home run over the centerfield fence at the 374 sign off a Mark Rosen pitch. The fans erupted as Bomback’s blast just got over the wall, eluding a desperate attempt at a circus catch by center fielder NAME.
Bomback’s dramatic blast got Pittsfield’s Fourth of July fireworks off to a one-day jump.
A ‘Q’ Double and an ‘Eddie’ HR Give C’s a 2-0 lead
Pittsfield took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the bottom of the second and fifth. In the second, Quentin Davis doubled plated Peter Fatse for a 1-0 edge. In the fifth, the C’s doubled their lead when Jerod Edmondson powered his third home run of the campaign.
That was all Chad Paronto needed. The big righty tossed eight shutout frames, giving up four hits and fanning four. The eight innings marked Paronto’s longest outing since 1999. Pittsfield manager pulled Paronto, giving the ball to T. J. Wink to close it. Wink had no given up an run, earned or otherwise, all year in 17.2 innings. One had the feeling the law of averages would catch up to the string-bean lefty.
Sure enough, two batters into the tope of the ninth, a 2-0 Pittsfield edge became a 2-2 nail biter, courtesy of Trey Hernandez’s two-run home run.
Series Concludes Tomorrow; Fireworks on Tap After 6:30 p.m. Start
A clearly upset Wink showed enough poise after that, getting the next three outs without incident. That set the stage for Bomback’s heroics to lead off the bottom of the 11th. Mike Zenko (4-0) pitched two shutout innings to get the win in relief. Rosen (1-1) absorbed his first loss of the year.
The two teams conclude their series tomorrow night at Beloved Wahconah Park, game time at 6:30. Fireworks will follow the game. The Colonials will participate in the Pittsfield Fourth of July Parade in the morning. Pat Moran (3-2, 6.25) takes the hill for Pittsfield against Freddy Flores (3-1, 3.65) for Brockton. For tickets, visit pittsfieldcolonials.com or call (413)-236-2961.

LR & FAMILY
We appreciate the support and kind words. THE PLANET shall be at the game tonight and reporting for you and everyone else.
Dan, the Parade was the same as the last forty. And why were these participants in the Parade not wearing any shirts. Are we in West Virginia? As far as illegal fireworks are concerned, it shows disrespect to our law enforcement, fireworks are really dangerous. Off topic, but splendid behavior. GO COLONIALS!
BEEZ
Seen one, seen then all. The new feature this year seems to be shirtless idiots.
As for illegal fireworks, completely out of hand.
