(BROCKTON, Mass., GAME OF TUESDAY 8/31/11) — The Pittsfield Colonials and Brockton Rox locked up in a pitcher’s duel from start to finish, with the Rox making two early runs hold up in a 2-0 Brockton victory.
The Colonials magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at three. Any combination of Pittsfield wins and Brockton losses equalling three puts the C’s in the Can-Am playoffs for the second straight year.
Brockton scored single runs in the first and second innings on a Phillip Cuadrado single and a Chris Grossman groundout to plate Keith Brachold and Shawn Williams respectively for the only runs of the contest.
Meanwhile, on the bump, Zach Woods (2-1) allowed Pittsfield just two hits over 7.2 innings, walking two and striking out eight in earning the win. Chad Paronto (9-7) was equal to the task on the other side, allowing just two baserunners after the second inning, retiring 18 of the final 20 batters he faced.
The final game of the series comes up on Thursday with David Qualben (6-7. 4.02) on the mound for Pittsfield against Dustin Birosak (7-1, 2.86) for Brockton. The game can be heard on WTBR FM and is scheduled for a 7:05 first pitch with the pregame show beginning at 6:45.
