I am reading in The Eagle today about the safety patrols that are going to be done in our more troubled areas. The only contact I have had with the Mayor about safety is when he returned my call last week. I think he should be reaching out to the entire Council. An e-mail to inform all of us what is going on would be appreciated. I am an at-large councilor that has to read in the paper about this. It seems John Krol and Kevin Morandi were contacted. I am sure we all have constituents contacting us. I know all of you are busy with this and other things, but the lack of communication to the council is upsetting.

You are completely correct, I should have notified the council, and I will take full responsibility for the lack thereof. I am sorry. A part of my job is to oversee communication and constituent services with you all when it effects your ward or the entire city. While last week was hectic, it is no excuse for not communicating about this extremely important and sensitive matter. I should have been in touch.
I will work to do better with communication in the future. As new details arise I will update you.
I do not have the PPD ops. schedule nor am I privy to it. However, when more information comes up on public safety, I will reach out.
Once again, I apologize. I understand that this is of great concern to your constituents and that you all are receiving a lot of questions, feedback and comments about public safety.

Fanto recently wrote and The BB published an opinion piece in which, as a response to the city’s out-of-control violence, he advocates formation of a commission to produce and implement fresh policies.
On this commission, he proposes mayoral candidates Mayor Lockdown and Linda Tyer; police chief Mike Wynn; district attorney David Capeless; some city councilors; and members of the clergy.
Do you see the sad joke here? Do you see the futility of Fanto’s suck-up notion? He wants precisely the same people in power now who have let the crime and violence get out of the control in the first place and who have subsequently proved helpless in its face. If you want new ideas, the last people you want are The Suits. You want people like Jim Shulman, Chuck Garivaltis, Chuck Vincelette, Dave Bubriski, Terry Kinnas, Ken Ramsdell, Donna Walto, Craig Gaetani, and Larry Tallman. You want independence, intelligence, and a healthy disdain for politics-usual.
Fanto’s embarrassing piece shows his need for peanuts has turned him into yet another fawning BB lapdog. Maybe THE PLANET can cut Fanto a little slack, though.

A good and qualitied manager does not need a committee to make decision for them. A good manager identifies a problem and takes corrective action. In regard to the issues of crime in Pittsfield Bianchi stated in one of his campaign that he was going to take a zero tolerance stance and put more policemen on the street. Now after 3 years and 5 deaths later he is finally getting around to fulfilling his promises. Problem is under the Bianchi administration there are less officers in uniform than before he became Mayor. So how can he put more resources in the West or Morningside neighborhoods without the bodies? This is why the council has not seen any plan, there is none!
I could have sworn Mr Bianchi said during his first campaign that he would have a permanent chief? Did I not hear him say that or did he see the advantages of having a chief he could control by holding his job over his head?

dee- of course i have a bachelor”s and let me tell you about my patents. long before dr. wang tied up with krofta he had many of his own patents. i told you that wang and krofta are geniuses in chemical engineering and building water and sewer plants all over the world krofta has built over 3000 installations in other applications for the food processing and oil industries mining industries and any other applications which are too vast to talk about here. kroFta is or i shoul say was as dr. krofta passed in 2002 the worlds leading authority in flotation and rightfully so.when i arrived at krofta dr. wang had already joined krofta and he and i signed an agreement with kroffta that any inventions we developed while working for him would be his intellectual property. we had no qualms with this as krofta was paying us and he was forking out the money to build lenox plant for free that i was building(physically)–when i was finished the product was significantly different than the drawings given to me by dr. krofta to build the plant for the town of lenox. the final shop drawings of the unit included all my ideas and the patent was issued to dr. krofta. wang didnt get credit for it either because of the contract we signed mentioned above after pittsfield wang and I WORKED ON A UNIT THAT WAS NAMED SASF TO DIFFERENTIATE FROM THE SANDFLOATHAT WAS RADICALLY DIFFERENT FROM THE UNITS WE BUILT IN PITTSFIELD. DR KROFTA HAD THE IDEA BEFORE AND WE WERE TAKING SOME OF HIS IDEAS AND OURS AS WE BUILT A PROTOTYPE AT THE LENOX INSTITUTE. WHEN FINISHED DR. KROFTA GOT THE PATENT AS GETTING A PATENT IS VERY COSTLY AND WANG AND I WERE NOT WELL OFF THEN. IT IS TO BAD WE DIDNT DEVELOP THIS UNIT 6 MONTHS EARLIER AS WE COULD OF USED IT IN PITTSFIELD AND SAVE ANOTHER 2– 3.5 MILLION FOR PITTSFIELD ,LENOX AND LEE TRULY HAVE THE MOST ADVANCED CLARIFIERS IN THE WORLD AND DR. WANG AND I IN THE PAST 30 YEARS HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO COME UP WITH ANYTHING BETTER AS THE SASF WILL BE THE WORLD STANDARD FOR ALL PLANTS GLOBALLY I.T IS THE ROLLS ROYCE OF CLAIRIFIERS. “U.S. Sen. Markey tours economic development sites in the Berkshires”

PITTSFIELD – The city’s downtown revitalization and emerging industrial innovation center are impressive projects that should drive Pittsfield’s future development efforts, U.S. Sen. Ed Markey said during a visit Monday.
Meeting at City Hall with Mayor Daniel L. Bianchi, state Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier, City Council President Melissa Mazzeo, Councilor Nicholas Caccamo and leaders of the Berkshire Innovation Center, Markey discussed the center and other projects, and later joined in a walk around The Common and sections of North Street.
“The state is transitioning to a higher percentage of life sciences job development,” the senator said. “That has been a big focus of mine.”
After hearing a presentation on the nonprofit BIC organization and planned $10 million facility, which is progressing toward a ground-breaking this year at the William Stanley Business Park, Markey said he will keep the regional collaborative in mind when discussing sources of federal funding.
Bianchi; Rod Jane, executive director of the BIC; Berkshire Community College Vice President for Community Education & Workforce Development William Mulholland, and other officials explained the center and gave the brief visual presentation. The BIC organization, which will have small manufacturing firms and educational and research institutions as members, is designed to play to the economic strength of the region, Bianchi said, by assisting companies that make products to support the life sciences industry.
The center now has 11 companies as members in the collaborative, Jane said, with more than 20 expected over time. Institutions, such as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Williams College, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, BCC, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Lowell, as well as the vocational component at Taconic High School, also are committed to the center, he said, and a number of vendor companies in the industry are expected to join as associate members.
Two large companies, General Dynamics and SABIC also are members.
The 20,000-square-foot BIC center is being constructed with the help of $9.7 million in funding through the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center.
Mulholland said BCC also has received grant funding through the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center for laser scanning equipment that will support the BIC and be used in partnership with the Taconic vocational program.
The BIC will open with some $2 million in specialized equipment to support research and development initiatives as well as training programs.
“You will be able to create an educational dynamic,” Markey said.
Jane said most of the member manufacturing companies will have 25 to 120 employees. Without the technical and product prototype testing equipment the BIC will have, “they are finding it very difficult to grow,” he said, largely because of the great expense of owning the equipment that will be shared at the center.
Mulholland said the capacity for worker training, closely related to the needs of existing companies in the region, will help the firms expand and “move up to the food chain.”
Earlier Monday, Markey visited North Adams, touring the MCLA campus, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art and the Berkshire Health Systems facility in the former North Adams Regional Hospital building.
He said collaboration between BCC, MCLA’s new science center and other institutions and entities has formed “an educational chain that will reinforce economic development.”
Representative Farley-Bouvier noted that the vocational education aspect of the center will provide a competitive edge and good-paying jobs for young people who aren’t going to a four-year college, especially those coming from lower-income backgrounds.
“It’s a great pathway for low- to moderate income students,” Bianchi said, adding that about 60 percent of students in city schools receive free or reduced-cost lunches because of their family income level.
“This is a great concept,” Markey said, “but the execution also is happening in a profound way.”
The officials later took a walking tour of The Common, which is being upgraded in a multi-phase project costing nearly $5 million, supported by significant grant funding. Also highlighted for the senator were the downtown Streetscape project areas and the new Hotel on North.
