TRUMP’s ROLLING PRESS CONFERENCE, LITERALLY ON COURSE, CONVEYS THE ESSENCE OF HIS PRESIDENTIAL BID

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEEKEND EDITION JULY 15-17, 2016) —  Today, THE PLANET runs a guest story that conveys the refreshing, unpredictable, and honest flavor of Donald Trump campaign to become your next president. He’s a candidate unique in modern presidential politics. His campaign that has thrown out The Establishment‘s rule book, a predilection that has the panicked Establishment scratching its head and continually playing from behind.

This story took place a few weeks ago as the Brits voted on Brexit. Trump was in Scotland at one of the golf courses he owns. With the GOP National Convention beginning Monday, this article takes on an added relevancy, conveying the “flavor” of the political phenomenon over which Trump presides. You can talk all you wish about Feeling the Bern. In the end, Col. Sanders copped out like all the rest of them. Only one candidate has ignited a political revolution during this presidential campaign season. His name is Donald Trump.

BY ANDREW MILLIGAN

PA via AP, SPECIAL TO PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

ABERDEEN, Scotland — Before Donald Trump arrived at his golf course here on the shore of the North Sea, a staffer at the facility told the several dozen reporters waiting that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee would not be taking questions. “Mr. Trump just wants to give you a tour of the course today,” the woman said.

But Trump, as he often has during his unusual, odds-defying presidential bid, had different ideas.

The moment he stepped from his white Trump-branded helicopter alongside the 10th hole on the second and final day of his Scottish visit, the New York real estate mogul made a beeline for reporters. And he took question after question in a rambling press conference that continued for five holes, along the fairway, in the rough and atop the sandy dunes that rise high along the sea in what the always on-message Trump frequently reminded reporters was one of the “world’s greatest” golf courses.

Though his staff had said he just wanted to talk golf, Trump quickly disregarded that edict, reaffirming his praise for the British vote to exit the European Union. Asked about the turmoil it has caused in the global financial markets, Trump replied that it was “too bad” but downplayed the role the so-called Brexit decision had played in riling the American stock market. He suggested there were larger factors involved. “A lot of bad decisions, a lot of bad things happening in this world,” Trump said.

Repeatedly pressed on what he would say to Americans worried about their retirement accounts, Trump straightened his white “Make America Great Again” hat, which had come loose atop his head. “Americans are very much different. This shouldn’t even affect them,” he replied.

A moment later, Trump seemed anxious to move on. “We’re going to go up to the 14th tee, if anybody wants to see it,” the businessman and former reality television star told reporters. “They say it’s one of the great sights of the world, if you want to see it. These are among the largest dunes anywhere in the world. If you’d like to see it, follow me.”

Of course, his press corps did. As the candidate walked away, photographers and television crews, many from news agencies outside the U.S., ran over one another as if in a scene from “Braveheart” to grab choice seats in a long convoy of golf carts. The writers ran to nearby vans, and those who couldn’t find a seat simply took off on foot in pursuit of the candidate, who had taken the wheel of his own golf cart, with his 9-year-old granddaughter, Kai, beside him. A convoy of Secret Service agents trailed in their own carts, trying to keep up.

Over one hill and then another, Trump finally pulled over just short of his destination — stopping at the 13th tee, where he posed for photos with his family, including sons Eric and Donald Jr., and waited for the media to catch up. And soon the rambling gaggle continued, as reporters pressed Trump on what he meant when he said Americans shouldn’t be affected by the Brexit decision. “Ideally, it shouldn’t,” the Republican hopeful said.

A larger problem, the real estate mogul argued, was the growing national debt, which he blamed on President Obama. “That’s going to affect America a lot more than Brexit,” Trump insisted. “Brexit is not their problem.” And even as his children seemed to grow irritated as reporters stomped all over the green listening to their father, Trump kept talking and talking.

Did he have a reaction to the Mexican flags that were being flown by a neighbor in protest of his anti-immigrant rhetoric? “Didn’t see them,” Trump replied. Had he been in touch with his foreign policy advisers about the Brexit vote and its impact on the United States? “I speak to foreign policy advisers all the time. But the advice has to come from me,” Trump said. But, he added, what good were foreign policy advisers anyway? “What have these policy advisers done for us? Other than get big fees? It’s an embarrassment. The whole world is a mess. These people don’t have it. Honestly, most of them are no good.”

Then, without missing a beat, Trump declared, “Let’s go to the 14th.” And the candidate walked past his Secret Service agents and waded through the sea of reporters to climb back into his golf cart.

Situated atop a large dune overlooking the sea, the 14th tee was as picturesque as Trump had promised. And upon arrival, the candidate walked to the edge, where he stood chatting with his staff and family. It seemed as though his rolling news conference might finally be over. But when Trump looked down and saw a few reporters, including this one, observing him from a tee below, he threw his hands in the air like an exasperated dad trying to corral his rebellious children. “Guys!” he barked. “GET UP HERE!” And the press conference continued.

Although he might not think the British vote to leave the European Union should affect the United States, a reporter told him, the country’s financial markets were taking a hit. “Nobody knows that,” Trump interjected. Echoing comments he made Friday, he trashed Obama for “getting involved” in the vote.

But pressed on how he might handle the crisis, Trump offered only vague details. “I would deal with it very well, believe me, but I’m not president right now,” the real estate mogul said. “But if and when I become president, I will deal with it very well. But they have a mess on their hands.”

The expedition continued around a bend to the 18th hole, where Trump continued talking — even as his staff tried to wave back reporters, suggesting the event was winding down. “The world under this leadership is falling apart,” Trump continued, linking his likely Democratic rival Hillary Clinton to what he called Obama’s “failed” leadership.

“I felt that what happened was going to happen,” Trump said of Brexit. But, he added, “It was sad for David Cameron, it was very pathetic for President Obama, and it was certainly pathetic for Hillary Clinton. They called it wrong.”

As Trump began to move back toward his golf cart, he cautioned reporters standing near the edge of the high dune. “Don’t fall!’ he called. “I don’t want to be sued.” But he kept talking.

He dismissed Republicans critical of his decision to leave the campaign trail for an overseas trip to promote his businesses. “One night, one night… Do I have the right to have one night?” Trump replied, with a hint of annoyance.

By then, some of the foreign press corps were growing weary of covering the real estate mogul. They walked back to their golf carts, where they collapsed with fatigue. “SHHHH,” a television producer said, hushing a boom mic engineer who was breathing so hard from running after Trump that many reporters couldn’t hear the candidate.

Still, Trump kept talking. “What about your vice presidential search?” a reporter asked. Trump replied that it was “coming along good” and that many people had been calling him eager to get the job. He declined to say how many people were on the list or whether he had narrowed it down.

From the back of the scrum, a television producer yelled out, asking Trump if the number of names on his list was larger or smaller than the par of the course — par 5.

The candidate grinned, but didn’t reply. An hour later, he was finally done talking.

I am not a fan of Hillary but we do need someone who can find Syria, Iraq or even New York City on a map. Trump seems totally ignorant of so many things going on in the world. And he gets pissy so easily that I am afraid a lot of American troops may die needlessly when he has a knee jerk reaction to some perceived slight. Putin and ISIS are praying that he gets elected because he is so naive on foreign relations. Like I said I am no big fan of Hillary but this is not amateur hour with ISIS going beserko. Hillary at least is very familiar with the whole workings of what is going on in the world. She is by far the lesser of two evils right now. The main knock against her is that she is dishonest and that is probably quite true. But if you don’t block out the back story on Trump you can see that he is quite the shyster himself and that is how he got where he is today.

Hillary may be able to find Syria, Irag, etc. on the map. And she may be very familiar with the whole workings that is going on in the world, as you claim, but her track record for helping this country, in spite of all her so called knowledge, is deplorable.

Not to mention the millions of dollars that she and bill have accumulated in suspicious ways.

Hillary can’t keep top secret information safe. She is “sloppy” as the FBI has said. She couldn’t keep people safe in Benghazi. No, I think Hillary is not a sensible choice to handle the serious challenges our country and the world are facing. Her policies are similar to Obama and to me that is the worse criticism of her. Every week we are having one horrific event after another either in this country or in Europe. The world is in crisis mode right now.

We need strong leadership. I think Trump is the closest this country will have to an Independent candidate. He isn’t Democrat, but neither is he typically Republican. We need a change.

Now would he draft good people to straighten out some of the fubar departments of the Federal Government? Probably a 50-50 proposition. Hillary on the other hand would keep hiring more of same, which is why wee keep getting deeper and deeper into our mess.

My family and I are all college educated and some have advanced degrees. We all are voting for Mr. Trump.

He is the only candidate that the entire political class is afraid of or hates. If that does not tell you something, there is really no hope for you.

Regards to foreign affairs…I hope that he keeps us out of many of the globalist’s wars. Only time will tell on that one.

He has even rebuffed the courting of the Kissinger Group, Koch Bros., etc., traditionally the pot of gold for republican candidates.

He may not be the person, but compared to Hillary, he’s a saint.

Here’s what I think about Pence — who I know– accepting VP:

I can see why the TV Celebrity wants Pence. He is solidly conservative, brings executive and legislative experience and has connections to money which the campaign needs. I really don’t get why Pence made the jump. He is joining probably a losing team that will run an insulting, divisive campaign. He will be part of an effort to demean US political life in ways that have never been acceptable before. If they win, he has to answer to a narcissistic egomaniac. If they lose, the whole team will be buried. Other young promising Republicans (Haley, Menendez) and most of the established Republicans (Bush, Kasich) won’t even attend the convention–which promises to be a national embarrassment– never mind join the ticket.

What are we supposed to do about the public or state schools that took tons of monies both from students and taxpayers and the graduated can’t get jobs or succeed in the market? How many students are up to their ears in debt over educations they can’t afford? Or shouldn’t have gotten? Are we going to evaluate all the schools equally or do some get a pass?

Both Trump University and his taxes are a problem. He is certainly hiding something in his taxes, my guess is that his income is low. He got a deduction from NY State that is only allowed if you make less than $600,000. His campaign says this is NY’s mistake but NY is not say that.

NY’s class action suit against Trump University will start next week. The affidavits will flow showing that people were ripped off.

I heard Trump talking about his taxes the other day. He said look what they (Dems) did to Romney after he released his tax returns. He said Romney earns peanuts compared to what he earns and he can imagine the field day the liberal media will have with his return. I think this is part of why he is hesitating. It’s true that after Romney released his returns the media did nothing but make fun of him and he earns far less than Trump.

Hillary more than likely will get a lot of the minority vote because in general the Progressive Democratic party has fooled them into believing they actually care about them, but once in office, they do nothing to get rid of poverty except making people dependent on welfare and food stamps. Progressive Democrat run cities (including Pittsfield) remain the worse cities for poverty and violence. Many minority voters, however, are starting to realize that things are not improving for them under progressive policies.

As for women, I believe far more women including myself will be voting for Trump. Many women are seeing that voting for any woman just because she is a woman would be a recipe for disaster. I personally know many women who will be voting for Trump.

ISIS has now come forward to say the Nice, France murderer was acting on their orders. Social media is being used by ISIS to incite others to commit horrific acts. Social media has become a huge problem. Even in this country after the police shootings in Dallas, people were sending out tweets urging people to hate. Social media is being used to incite violence around the world.

Twenty five people are on life support, fifty are in critical condition after the France terrorist attack. At least 11 children, including several babies, were killed. This has become the “new normal” for France since that country is on the front lines of this battle. Will this soon become the “new normal” for the entire world? We need to return to values of spirituality and morals in order to fend off this evil. Politicians need to stop acting like politicians and become real leaders in this crisis.

You give the Dream team of Clinton and Obama a complete pass?
The president, after what one would hope would be careful consideration of input from cabinet members (Clinton as one) made the statement that “ISIS is the JV squad” so now based upon the inability to rewrite history as you say we have a candidate who can control and contain the situation? The JV squad has reeked a lot of havoc and some would say embarrassed this administration on the world stage. How many world leaders do you think are willing to follow the current administration when it won’t even utter the name radical Islam? Who wants to follow an administration who can’t stop the JV Team? Or did the State department and others so totally blow the assessment? If so why? Not since Custer told his troops there was only a handful of Indians has the intelligence been so flawed on a battlefield.

This is what happens in Progressive Democrat cities. They become overrun with poverty and crime and it becomes “normal”. The politicians do nothing except continuing to raise taxes and maybe hire more police, but they don’t solve the root causes of any of these problems. Progressives don’t know how to create jobs to get rid of poverty which in turn would reduce the crime and violence.

Right now progressives are building a new high school we don’t need because they think it’s an economic engine. Even though schools have been proven to NOT be economic engines and we are rapidly losing population and don’t even need a new high school. They are opposing a Super Walmart because progressives hate big box stores, but they are unable to bring any jobs into that area so they would rather leave it empty rather than bring in a sure thing of some jobs. A big part of the reason why progressives can’t bring any companies into this area is because of their unfriendly anti-business attitude.

Berkshire Business Equipment is jumping from the good ship North St. and is moving to outer East St. near Whorle’s. Good idea and best of luck! Going to leave another big empty store front on North St..

Gunshots heard on Second Street early this morning. Also on John Street. The streets are not safe.

What happened to the city I once knew? It is so sad to see.

You hold companies accountable for bad actions, but you don’t punish all companies. GE was wrong, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have a welcome mat out for other companies. Even Boston forgives and forgets, it now has General Electric headquarters in Boston.

Remember the damage conservatives did financially and militarily in their 8 years after Clinton can only be overcome by Trump talking jobs….being anti Clinton will have no shot of success…this country is a mess because of great wealth goes hand in hand with great poverty….greed is the root of ALL EVIL

Maybe it’s time for Pittsfield to get one of those gunshot recognition. Can tell a gunshot and location quickly. Holyoke uses one I believe.

shotspotter. they cost $5-$600K per YEAR since it’s only a license you buy.

Also, at 42 sq miles, even covering the barest urban core would probably be a lot more geography than Holyoke or Springfield covers.

there has to be a better investment of $600K to keep good people safe. so far, have any of the shooting “victims” been decent, productive people – say, on their way to work?

Probably not, we need to drive these folks out.

Police cannot solve the problem, wish it was that simple. Much more complex than throwing money at the problem.
