‘DEMOCRACY WITHOUT DEMOCRATS’ SUMMARIZES BAY STATE, CITY POLITICS TO A ‘T’ … RATHER, TO A ‘D’

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY OCT. 23, 2017) — THE PLANET finally found the correct term with which to label one-party rule in Boston and, of course, in toady Pittsfield, where the local Democrat Party is led by Captain of Red Sox Nation the Rt. Hon. Sherwood Guernsey, Esq. Perhaps our good friend Sherwood’s title should be changed to “Esp.,” since he can easily predict ponderous events such as the municipal budget (more for the pigs at the trough, less for ordinary citizens) and taxes (up, uP, UP). Why, man, he can foretell the outcome in “elections” that should not even be held for the insult they give to those in actual robust republics. Moon in 1, Caccamo in 3, Krol in 6, and so on.

Yawn … to say nothing about Yon.

We caution you not to favorably compare The Amazing Guernsey with Nostradamus or even Carnac the Magnificent. Anyone with at least half a dozen functioning brain cells can predict winners in Pittsfield elections, with their next-to-nothing turnout and The Suits stoking up, fronting, organizing, and funding their political zombies.

The perfect phrase to describe this political sham is that Massachusetts and Pittsfield both enjoy “Democracy without democrats” (DWd). Note the lower “d,” because if the non-existent Republicans held a 90-10 advantage, the GOP would be just as bad. There would be no difference between the two major parties. Either could and would employ such a statistical edge to get all bare-chested and Mussolini-like. There is no dictatorship so absolute as the one that masks as a republic, as in the People’s Democratic Republic of North Korea. See? Pittsfield has elite company.

DWd occurs when legitimate government collapses, which it did in the city after GE left. For a brief moment in the early to mid-90s, the city had a chance to court new business and create-then-implement a plan to revitalize the economy. Unfortunately, Pittsfield had Ed Reilly as mayor, a colorless, do-nothing windbag who if you asked him the time would tell you how to make a watch. Keep in mind that Reilly knew as much about fixing watches as Kathy “Lady Boots” Yon knows about her fiduciary role as chair of the school committee. Consequently, while the politicians and special interests rushed in to fill the ensuing power vacuum, city “leaders” did nothing. Reilly unceremoniously left office after a bizarre stretch in which he decided to run, then decided NOT to, run for state rep. Swamp politics then took over. We know how that one turned out.

A fatal political illness such as DWd produces political creatures such as Linda Tyer. The Suits plucked this good woman, friendly enough as she is, from the secretarial pool in the Lenox schools, gave her a Ward 3 council seat, followed by the gifting of a city clerkship after Jodie Phillips wanted to try her hand in the Dreaded Private Sector (DPS) at General Dynamics. Jodie found out that the DPS isn’t as “forgiving” as public service. No problem. The Suits easily arranged for her to get her old job back as clerk while at the same time installing Tyer as mayor. Bing, bang, boom. No runs, no hits, many errors.

Now into the third of her four-year term, Tyer’s highlights include:

  • Record spending
  • Record high taxes
  • No action on the PEDA site
  • Nothing doing on jobs
  • Runaway crime and street violence, mostly related to drugs
  • A municipal “economy” that resembles Dwight Frye as Renfield in the original Lugosi Dracula
  • A ribbon cutting for trashcans.

DWd creates politicians such as Tyer and Moon — female, minority, reasonably young and attractive, and compliant to their masters. They don’t actually have to campaign, because they either run against no one or against their ideological clones (Peter Marchetti). They CAN’T lose. Only the people do. These type of pols love to make promises in the campaign, always noted for their vagueness. The lack of specificity grants many freedoms. For example, return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear, when Tyer campaigned for mayor making urban blight her key issue. She did a photo-op in front of the old KFC site on East Street. That site, Hess Forest, and others would be dealt with promptly and severely.

Yeah, right.

Take a stroll through lovely Hess Forest. The windows of the building have been smashed, making the grounds as derelict as  they’ve ever been. While there, you might want to take one of the shards and start slicing at your main cables. Don’t worry about the blood. Just wander over to one of the new $6,000 trashcans. As the Rolling Stones once sang, “Let It Bleed.”

“I have been assured by a very knowing American … that a young child, well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout.”Jonathan Swift, from “A Modest Proposal.”

“OPEN THE WINDOW, AUNT MILLIE.”

LOVE TO ALL.

Our country was founded on the concept of self-determination, which meant the Declaration of Independence! Our Founding Fathers wanted one political party, which was called the Federalist Party. Thomas Jefferson ran against the Federalist Party to limit the scope of the Federal government and give power back to the State governments and the People.
Our country’s true power is Wall Street. When the financial system broke down in 2008, the Federal Government bailed out the big banks with trillions of taxpayer dollars. It was Robin Hood in reverse. Now Prez Trump wants to cut taxes for Wall Street, giving them trillions more in taxpayer dollars.
Our nation’s democracy has always been obstructed by the powerful and their financial interests!
Pittsfield politics is ran on a concept called “pre-determination” with non-competitive “elections” with low voter turnout dominated or controlled by a China-like one political party system. Moreover, the people behind the proverbial curtain are more powerful than the political hacks in “elected” office.
I admired Sherwood Guernsey’s political events against the fascist Donald Trump. He had FDR’s grandson speak about the “Four Freedoms”. I understand that Sherwood Guernsey is a political insider, but his ideals are praiseworthy. I disagree with Dan Valenti that Sherwood Guernsey is to blame for Pittsfield politics’ myriad of problems. However, Sherwood Guernsey is one of the political power-brokers who is entrenched in the current system that has drove Pittsfield’s already depressed economy into the proverbial ditch!

Amazon is about to pick a city for its headquarters and she is not playing any role in selling Pittsfield. If you are not prepared to bring in jobs you are the equivolent of Republican President Trump in wanting a new healthcare system to just show up in the Oval office.Republicans think ideas are called tax cuts for 1% of Americans.

The best thing this mayor could do is not play a role in any discussions with Amazon officials. I’m trying to think of a three person team I would want to represent Pittsfield if this is not just another smoke screen to divert money to the BIC to “show the city’s commitment “. I’m having a hard time coming up with the first. Anyone?

I do remember Linda Tyer walking quickly up and down North Street and acting as though she had a plan for this city, but as with so many other politicians the plan didn’t include doing anything for the struggling citizens of Pittsfield. No jobs plan. Not even cleaning up the disgusting areas of the city.

If more citizens who care about the fate of this once great city would turn up at the polls then this sinking Pittsfield ship could be rescued. Instead the only people who do show up at the polls are those who only care about their own personal finances and want the gravy train of more money to the schools to continue As long as local politicians keep the school employees happy, they think their job is done. We need people voting who care about the fate of everyone in the city. Who care about jobs for everyone not a select few. Stop letting the suits choose the groomed candidates and turn up at the polls to prevent them from winning when they do run.

She may have been walking quickly because there was a mugger behind her. It is a category that does not seem to be explicitly listed in crime statistics in Pittsfield but it does happen. Probably listed as aggravated assault (but really a mugging) ( But not on North street) SSSHHHHHH

Some people feel they have been mugged by the parking kiosks when they get hit with a fine. (probably listed under assault)

LT couldn’t sell peanuts to an elephant – I’m surprised her cronies Ward, Clairbear, Durwin or Guyer aren’t trying to inform us dummies why amazon is a bad fit for our economy – maybe that genius Ward is redesigning the façade of the plant to fit in with the Tyler St. model whatever that is – maybe blight, poverty and crime motif –

Great article in the Berkshire Eagle yesterday concerning why road work and other projects are not getting done. Must read!

Perhaps if the school system was not sucking all the money out of the system the city could afford to hire competent engineers so that our infrastructure would not be falling apart. but the mayor has her priorities I guess.

Yeah it was a good article on why city engineer quit. It stated in the article it wasn’t so much about his salary, although he did state it could be better, he said it was the “working environment” and “dealing with egos” that led him to leave.

Very interesting, S.T. And very telling. Now what can you tell us about the members of our SC. I know Yon doesn’t have kids.

In my opinion the SC is more dangerous than our CC. They control the largest part of the city’s budget. The big concern is always who is running for council. Very little attention is given to who is running for SC.

Not that it matters this time. 6 people running for 6 positions.
Sad!

Another new low for the Eagle. The Eagle said an unidentified man said one of the candidates at the forum at BCC smelled of alcohol and told the candidate not to drive. Then the unidentified man called the cops and the cops said they received such a call. How the FLICK is this news? If someone said the Eagle reporter was offering sex for money and they called the cops on her would this be in the Eagle? Rutberg get a handle on your crew.
