PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION NOV. 3-5, 2017) — Take a deep breath and hold your noses, friends, as THE PLANET presents this overview of the upcoming “freeze-dried election,” scheduled for Tuesday. Just add Housatonic water and stir. Funny how Tuesday not so long ago used to be “next month.” How time flies in The Land of Benigno Numine.

Actually, you needn’t bother with the date, because, as usual, your vote will mean squat, as good a position as any for this type of spastic elimination. This election will, like all steaming dumps, attract a horde of flies and vermin, but intelligent voters will let anger and apathy overrule any temporary lapse in good judgment. Barring 11 acts of God, four miracles, two astonishments, a nuclear attack, and a good day thrown in, The Suits have this one signed, sealed, and demolished.  We shall make shrift that’s not only short but at the same time extended more than it should be.

THE PLANET begins by offering two certain, winning strategies for bedraggled “ordinary citizens” — you know, what’s left of the “armies of the road” that used to make up Pittsfield’s middle class:

Strategy (1): Don’t vote. This is by far the best option for Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski, since it will at least preserve what’s left of their sense of their civic self respect.

Strategy (2): If you do vote, write in NONE OF THE ABOVE for every office. That is the only faint hope of a glimmer of a remote possibility that Mary Jane and Joe can “send a message” to  public officials.

That being said, we now break down the “races,” which the Powers That Be broke for you long ago.

——– * * * ——–

SCHOOL COMMITTEE — You’re kidding, right? Presenting six compliant, safe candidates for six useless seats. This dumb-wad gang includes Fearless Leader Kathy “Lady Boots” Yon, the person who foremost in Pittsfield’s long-line of criminal office holder bears responsibility for ruining the city, pushing as she has a bankrupt agenda that’s not serving pupils while at the same time under-funding every other city department and destroying homeowners and small businesses with punishing taxes.  PLANET predicts all six phony windbags will win.

  • THE PLANET recommends voting NONE OF THE ABOVE in the write-in slot. Writing in NONE OF THE ABOVE for school committee will be the single most important ballot act you can perform other than boycotting this election.

CITY CLERK — Another joke. One candidate for one position. We won’t bother with a “prediction.”

  • THE PLANET recommends writing in NONE OF THE ABOVE. It’s your civic duty.

WARD RACES — The “good news” is that six — oops, five — of the seven wards are being contested. The bad news speaks for itself.

  • Ward 1 — Helen Moon v. “Michael Cirullo.” THE PLANET predicts Moon. Cirullo got a bad case of stage fright and is no longer a candidate, though he will be on the ballot. Vote NONE OF THE ABOVE.
  • Ward 2 — Kevin Morandi v. Some Gal. THE PLANET predicts and recommends Morandi, who has been quietly effective serving the ward. Gal was put up by “Them.” That tells you everything.
  • Ward 3 — Nick Caccamo v. Jim Gleason. THE PLANET predicts Par Four. THE PLANET recommends Gleason, a straight shooter with a delicious independent streak.
  • Ward 4 — Chris Connell v. Mr. Wrong. THE PLANET predicts and recommends Connell, who has been the council’s MVP for this cycle.
  • Ward 5 — Donna Todd Rivers v. William Keane. THE PLANET predicts Rivers. We recommend Keane. Why? Because he’s not Donna Todd Rivers.
  • Ward 6 — John Krol v. Nobody. THE PLANET predicts Mr. Telegenic. We recommend NONE OF THE ABOVE, on principle. No office should go uncontested.
  • Ward 7 — Tony Simonelli v. Rhonda Serre. THE PLANET predicts Simonelli, who rides the school vote. We recommend Tony because he played for G.E.A.A. in the Babe Ruth League back in the day.

AT-LARGE

  • Six candidates vie for four seats. THE PLANET predicts Pete Marchetti, Melissa Mazzeo, Pete White, and Earl Persip. We recommend bulleting Mazzeo and Craig Gaetani. Mazzeo well plays the role of  disloyal opposition. As for Gaetani, confess: Don’t you want to see him in a citywide seat, just to see what happens?

So do your civic duty. DO NOT VOTE!! IF DOESN’T MEAN A THING! Please, above all, do not harbor the dangerous illusion that voting can any longer be a societal obligation. The only obligation free citizens have is to “dissolve the ties” that bind them to local government.

Have a great weekend.

I agree that voting in this election in Pittsfield at this time is simply a feel good activity. All city council votes for the next two years will still have the same overall outcome whether you vote or do not vote.

If you want to vote for real change vote with your feet and move to a different place because nothing is going to change in Pittsfield. It is what it is and either you except it or you do not.

Actually it is what it is and it is going to get worse…much worse.

Great column Dan, I couldn’t agree more. I remember watching a school committee meeting and being shocked that the female members were fawning over approving and adding new random history classes at the high school – while the school district was being asked to cut costs. Unless the parents get involved by 1)frequently visiting their kids’ schools to observe what is going on, and 2) serving in some way either on the school committee or at their kids’ schools – this is the only way PPS will improve! Parental pressure is huge!

A Planet contributor mentioned that ANTIFA was holding a rally here on Saturday. If anyone will be there observing – please take pictures of any public officials or candidates who are participating in the event!

right, because we wouldn’t want our elected officials to be against fascism, racism, or sexism.

You do know ANTIFA is part of the right wing crazies’ fanatical story line? Wait, probably too ignorant to care.

Hence, if you start an “Anti-Fascism” group, use fascist tactics like the black coats and storm troopers, you will not be a fascist

ANTIFA is fake news generated by the lunatic fanatics of the right fringe so the little righty snowflakes can plead the victim card. Its a scam, and the Berkshires are full of enough gun toting backwater (PCB brain damaged) hillbillies to fall for it.

Militant anti-fascism dates back to the 1920s: anti-fascists were involved in battles AGAINST Benito Mussolini’s Blackshirts, Adolf Hitler’s Brownshirts, Francisco Franco’s nationalist army, Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists, and American pro-Nazi organizations such as the Friends of New Germany. Although there is no organizational connection, the lineage of Antifa in America can be traced to Weimar Germany, where the first group described as Antifa was Antifaschistische Aktion, formed in 1932 with the involvement of the Communist Party of Germany. Antifaschistische Aktion’s two-flag logo, as well as the three arrow anti-fascist circle used by the Social Democratic led Iron Front (which was formed in 1931 by Social Democrats), is the most commonly used symbol of contemporary US Antifa.

Maybe we shouldn’t have the Grand Old Party of Bannon that is the 21st century’s answer to the Khmer Rouge. By plying this far right hogs-hit you are acknowledging the US societal goal of fascism at the expense of religious and ethnic minorities, and even women.

Fascism /ˈfæʃɪzəm/ is a form of radical authoritarian nationalism, characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and control of industry and commerce that came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.

I will not vote for Mazzeo either. She is against Super Walmart. Now with Sears leaving the mall, Walmart may soon be the ONLY game in town for shopping, but Progressives don’t like Walmarts or big box stores. Progressives are happy that Berkshire Mall is in trouble. The suits and others who can afford it will travel to Holyoke to shop or shop online. The struggling poor can’t afford to do this on a regular basis. The struggling middle class can’t afford North Street either. Nobody has any thought for helping the struggling working class in this city. Gaetani is the only one on the ballot who cares about the working class.

There will be a debate for Ward 3 candidates Saturday at 11am at the Housing Authority.

Jim has been trying to get the word out, Caccamo has done nothing per usual. I’m sure he will show up with literature and useless data

As for the city clerk, Mrs. Cetti deserves it. She’s a good person and knows her stuff

Any chance you could help spread the word about the debate, Dan?

Caccamo has done little to nothing for this election because he know he can sit on his laurels and win. He has become nothing less than an arrogant, pompous do nothing hipster who just throws “data and literature” at you without much else.

Caccamo is a machine candidate with unlimited financial backing if needed. The people in the shadows will not let him lose. All school personnel and other unions have been instructed. Did anyone see the sheet this year? They have been more careful with it since a copy got out into the public a few years ago.

And the one statement that our founding fathers would cringe at the most was uttered by Peter Marchetti, when he told the citizens to leave politics to the professionals. Professional politicians was exactly what they were trying to avoid with the entire constitution designed to prevent what Pittsfield and national politics have become. Jefferson was right….Democracy needs the blood of revolution once and a while. Let’s begin on Tuesday….and send our 1st message to Peter.
BTW Pete-Professionals are paid based on their performance or quality of work…In either case, you would owe us money!!!

Eagle endorsements are out. They adore Marchetti touting his awesome financial acumen.

But I ask if he is such a financial wizard, why is the city upside down with money problems and nutso spending?? HUh? Why Pete? I would not want him over seeing my budget.
