YOUNG GENIUSES DISPLAY THEIR IGNORANCE DURING GUN WALKOUT

BY DAN VALENTI

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDES, WEDNESDAY FEB. 28, 2018) — THE PLANET thanks the young scholars at Taconic and Pittsfield high schools for winning us a free, fancy coffee. We wagered a friend that the lil’ geniuses who yesterday loaded their diapers on the sidewalks, plaza, and playing fields would stage their protest, that some would be carrying signs, and — here’s the kicker — more than one sign would have a spelling or grammatical error.

And thus it came to pass that early this morning, we were enjoying a $7 cappuccino at one of south county’s more posh establishments. You know, the joint where THE PLANET never sees a bill.

Now let us grudgingly traipse back to the scholars’ signs.

One drippy-eared genius carried a sign that spelled “safety” without the “e” — her placard had it as “safety.” The dumb girl didn’t realize that walking en masse outside the building made her and her classmates exponentially more vulnerable to violence than being inside a classroom, learning. Another future member of Mensa carried a placard reading, “Its our classroom.” This young Einstein, an honor student, no doubt, apparently has yet to learn the dynamics of the possessive case.

In case she’s reading this: “Sweetie, learn basic grammar and then perhaps we’ll consider taking you seriously.”

Folks, you know, I know, Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski know, and Aunt Millie’s pet poodle knows that 99.99% of the kids who took part in the walkout over gun violence did so to get out of class on a sunny day, to goof off, to surf smart phones, and to arrange after-school drug deals. The latter happens every day. Schools are officially “drug free” zones, which feature the most robust marketplaces for kids who want their pot, meth, oxy, heroin, and Sen-Sen.

Unlike in other parts of the country, where administrators imposed punishment on student-run walkouts, Pittsfield’s dumb-arsed mayor, school superintendent, and school committee had no problem with the kiddies running the sandbox.

Super Jake “JIV” McCandless even went so far as to break the law, barring all citizens and press from being present during the walkout. He has no such authority.

“These events are planned and organized by students,” JIV said. “These events are for high school students. They are not public events, and no one — children or adults, including parents — will be allowed on school grounds during [the protest].” Earth to JIV: Campuses are public spaces.

And if you’ve ever wondered whether the kids rule over a bunch of spineless adults playing administrators, the idiot JIV admitted it point blank. He said the walkout “is a means of students having control.”

Ironically the hundreds of Pittsfield students who gave the finger to education made great targets, congregating like cattle on the outside. They gave advance notice of where they would be. Fortunately or not, an angry, disgruntled young man with his AR-15 decided to prove that all this hype about school violence is just that.

He left the magazines out of the chambers, stayed in his mom’s basement, and played “Halo” all day. No doubt he was a grad of one of the affected schools.

Oh, the delicious irony. Your 4 the graph – the one making fun of 15 year olds – has at least two typos. First, you actually correctly spelled “safety” in trying to demonstrate how students misspelled it. Second, you refer to them as “honor” students. Had the option existed when you were a child, you would know that the correct term is “honors” students. Luckily for you, we allow adults to occasionally make mistakes, an honor your don’t afford children.

And also, school grounds are NOT public spaces any time school is in session. The school, in order to maintain safty [sic] may limit access to the building and grounds. No never of the public has a right to be on school grounds when they are being used for school-related purposes.

First of all, I don’t consider Dan spelling out “safety” correctly to be an error since he said that the “e” was left out so we understood how the children had misspelled it without having to see it.

Secondly, “an honor student is a student recognized for achieving high grades or high marks in their course work at school. In the US honors students may refer to: Students recognized for their academic achievement on lists published periodically throughout the school year, known as honors roll”. Dan was referring to a single student so the use of the word “honor” was appropriate. Now can we split hairs about why all of these children were needlessly out of school yesterday?

HM,
Have you heard of spellcheck? When a person is writing a column, on a computer, with hundreds of words – spellcheck will fix anything purposely spelled wrong. The students couldn’t handle making 2-6 word signs without errors.
The real irony is that the city keeps throwing bazillions of dollars at this failing school system, with few results. The effect of Dem-developed school programs like “No Child Left Behind,” Common Core, and now the PROMISE program have had a devastating effect on our public schools. That plus the influx of non-English speaking students – and inclusion policies.
Saw the student demonstration on the news last nite – I was so disappointed to see that the administration allowed this to take place during school hours. But I shouldn’t be surprised – we have a school committee spending its time debating how best to change the names of holidays. More irony.

All of this proves that the schools are just recruiting grounds for liberal causes. The children are not being taught to think independently, but are encouraged to be liberal activists. If the schools can control the young minds then the future of the radical Democrat Progressive party is looking good. Would the children be encouraged to participate in a day off of school for an anti-abortion rally? Would they be given the blessing of local schools for such an event?

If they are not being spoon fed that there are over 50 different types of genders and you can choose daily which one you want to be, they are taught to disrespect conservative voices or any voices that oppose the Progressive cause.

The worst time to make a decision about anything is when emotions are running high. That’s common sense. Cooler heads need to make decisions to protect the children. Now we have the radical Dems jumping on the bandwagon and just trying to fan the flames. The young people should have a voice, but the voices of young conservatives should also be included when it comes to safety in the schools.

Does not sound like that should bother too many fair minded people. Still lots of guns and shooting available with these restrictions. How much fire power does the average civilian need?

Keep in mind that the folk who wrote the 2nd amendment, in their wildest imagination, did not envision the immense firepower of today s weapons. I am quite sure they would have amended it then and there if so.

“Ban assault-style firearms”
Start with a definition. GCA bans assault weapons. With psychopaths roaming free, how does this proposal even resolve anything?

“Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21”

All firearms? Even match target rifles used for competitions? How about handguns for use at target training? No distinction between tactical weapons with large loads and target firearms? Why not?

– Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks
No mention of the abundance of magazines. They are manufactured internationally, and they are beyond the range of Big Brother to watch.
But sure, go ahead and ‘ban’ them.

– Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law
Already happens most places. Where is the corollary policy of banning mental health risks and violent felons from freely walking? Let’s talk stricter prison sentences, mandatory observed treatments, mandated state interventions.
– Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms
Databases of private possessions, firearms in particular are hostile moves by the government. following the The Journal News, White Plains, NY, publishing the names of firearm owners, you may sympathize with their desire for privacy. How about a national database of ‘prohibited people’ instead?

– Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background
No such a loophole exists. Where licensing and registration is required, all venues are subject to the same procedures. ATF and state registration personnel attend these shows to facilitate the sales.

As for Dicks, since when does a private business get mired in a Constitutional debate to cobble favor with Democrats? Thanks for the post, I’ll stop purchasing fishing gear and clothing from them.
Also, the ‘backlash’ against the NRA has prompted me to join. That’s $40 in their pockey – money well spent for 10%.

If the students were protesting in favor of owning and carrying guns, it would not be allowed and viewed as the students taking charge.

There would have been S.W.A.T. teams brought in, tear gas and the school would have been on “lockdown”. It would have been viewed as extremist activity and they would have been disciplined to the fullest extent of the law.

This protest was allowed because it fits the agenda.

Re: Open letter to U.S. President Donald Trump

Dear Mr. President Donald Trump,

I watched CBS world news with my senior citizen parents earlier this evening, Wednesday, February 28, 2018. I was saddened and emotionally pained to see the tragic images of babies, toddlers, children, and people severely injured and dead in Syria by their evil dictator’s civil war. I told my parents that I wasn’t affected by the news since we watched CBS’ “60 Minutes” segment on the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school shooting over 5 years ago. My mother told me to write to you and tell you how I feel. I request that you stop the evil dictator’s Syrian regime from killing and injuring babies, toddlers, children and civilian people. I request that you bring this evil dictator to justice. If I were in your shoes as U.S. President, I would immediately tell the international community to stop the Syrian Civil War by bringing the Syrian dictator and his military to justice. I will explain the sadness and emotional pain I felt to my new VA psychologist next week from what I saw on the news tonight when I watched on television the tragic images of injured and dead young children and people in Syria’s Civil War. In closing, I cannot believe that there are still crimes against humanity in our day and age. We are not powerless to stop evil dictators’ respective war crimes anymore!

Sincerely,
Jonathan A. Melle

I was trying to point out the absurdity of blaming the NRA for the school shooting. The NRA had nothing to do with it. Blame falls squarely on the shoulders of a mentally ill young man. Some blame also falls on the local sheriff’s dept. and the FBI for failing to act on tips. Some blame can also be placed on the school’s participation in the PROMISE program which kept Cruz’s name out of arrests reports and off the radar of the “do not sell to” lists

Skip brings up a great point, 2’nd amendment protects us ( we the people ) against an offensive government. The progressives are far better at branding and marketing than the right. But no one wants to take your guns ! Tell that to the Indians, give us your weapons we will not harm you.

No one has mentioned the great assistance Mr Gaetani gave to shut down the Mayor and the seven Dwarfs which will possibly end in a couple of their political careers for what could have been massive tax increases again. The Builder of the Plant has said the second part will be even easier to avoid, saving us another 160 million total. The Eagle has not mentioned what reason the votes were for In favor, and neither the C C or it’s Mayor who voted and supported a mega-million Plant. Connell,Mazzeo, Morandi, and Rivers examined it thoroughly and came to the right conclusion rather than ram-rodding it down our throats. Gaetani was definitely the main reason to push forward,no doubt! Good Job!

FINALLY an article in the BB about the terrible pothole situation in this city. Supposedly a special “pot hole” unit will be created by Krol and Connell since they are calling on City Hall to create a “rapid response” plan. At least 5 people wrecked their tires on Tuesday night from a massive pothole on Dalton Avenue. This is why I really dread driving at night in this city. You have no idea if you will make it home with your car in one piece. It’s impossible to see these craters at night.

Capeless isn’t even that old to retire, is he? Must be something else political going on since it always is in this city.
