YOUNG GENIUSES DISPLAY THEIR IGNORANCE DURING GUN WALKOUT
BY DAN VALENTI
PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY
(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDES, WEDNESDAY FEB. 28, 2018) — THE PLANET thanks the young scholars at Taconic and Pittsfield high schools for winning us a free, fancy coffee. We wagered a friend that the lil’ geniuses who yesterday loaded their diapers on the sidewalks, plaza, and playing fields would stage their protest, that some would be carrying signs, and — here’s the kicker — more than one sign would have a spelling or grammatical error.
And thus it came to pass that early this morning, we were enjoying a $7 cappuccino at one of south county’s more posh establishments. You know, the joint where THE PLANET never sees a bill.
Now let us grudgingly traipse back to the scholars’ signs.
One drippy-eared genius carried a sign that spelled “safety” without the “e” — her placard had it as “safety.” The dumb girl didn’t realize that walking en masse outside the building made her and her classmates exponentially more vulnerable to violence than being inside a classroom, learning. Another future member of Mensa carried a placard reading, “Its our classroom.” This young Einstein, an honor student, no doubt, apparently has yet to learn the dynamics of the possessive case.
In case she’s reading this: “Sweetie, learn basic grammar and then perhaps we’ll consider taking you seriously.”
Folks, you know, I know, Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski know, and Aunt Millie’s pet poodle knows that 99.99% of the kids who took part in the walkout over gun violence did so to get out of class on a sunny day, to goof off, to surf smart phones, and to arrange after-school drug deals. The latter happens every day. Schools are officially “drug free” zones, which feature the most robust marketplaces for kids who want their pot, meth, oxy, heroin, and Sen-Sen.
Unlike in other parts of the country, where administrators imposed punishment on student-run walkouts, Pittsfield’s dumb-arsed mayor, school superintendent, and school committee had no problem with the kiddies running the sandbox.
Super Jake “JIV” McCandless even went so far as to break the law, barring all citizens and press from being present during the walkout. He has no such authority.
“These events are planned and organized by students,” JIV said. “These events are for high school students. They are not public events, and no one — children or adults, including parents — will be allowed on school grounds during [the protest].” Earth to JIV: Campuses are public spaces.
And if you’ve ever wondered whether the kids rule over a bunch of spineless adults playing administrators, the idiot JIV admitted it point blank. He said the walkout “is a means of students having control.”
Ironically the hundreds of Pittsfield students who gave the finger to education made great targets, congregating like cattle on the outside. They gave advance notice of where they would be. Fortunately or not, an angry, disgruntled young man with his AR-15 decided to prove that all this hype about school violence is just that.
He left the magazines out of the chambers, stayed in his mom’s basement, and played “Halo” all day. No doubt he was a grad of one of the affected schools.

LOVE TO ALL.
The Usual Disclaimer.
I want to live on a beautiful land without lawyers, guns, and money!
Then you’ll want to move to a socialist country. Only it won’t be too beautiful.
While I like money, I also know that money is the root of all evil! I don’t like guns! I really don’t like lawyers, who are in it for the money!
Get rid of the wacky weed. And you are misquoting Scripture – “the LOVE of money is the root of all evil!”
Dan, I totally agree. The inmates are running the asylum. School administrators – bring back rules & discipline!
Wow,I don’t know what Moon was eating the other night after executive session meeting, but I want some? Planet, you have to see this one.
The Wizard slays the Consultants again 7-4 ……,Rivers,Connell, Morandi, Mazzeo , Good job!
With examples like the people we have running our government to emulate can we really expect that much from the children?
Superintendent of Schools right was right on parallel with the Broward County Sheriff. Oh course everyone on the School Committee will be in total agreement with him. God save the Commonwealth !
Oh, the delicious irony. Your 4 the graph – the one making fun of 15 year olds – has at least two typos. First, you actually correctly spelled “safety” in trying to demonstrate how students misspelled it. Second, you refer to them as “honor” students. Had the option existed when you were a child, you would know that the correct term is “honors” students. Luckily for you, we allow adults to occasionally make mistakes, an honor your don’t afford children.
And also, school grounds are NOT public spaces any time school is in session. The school, in order to maintain safty [sic] may limit access to the building and grounds. No never of the public has a right to be on school grounds when they are being used for school-related purposes.
First of all, I don’t consider Dan spelling out “safety” correctly to be an error since he said that the “e” was left out so we understood how the children had misspelled it without having to see it.
Secondly, “an honor student is a student recognized for achieving high grades or high marks in their course work at school. In the US honors students may refer to: Students recognized for their academic achievement on lists published periodically throughout the school year, known as honors roll”. Dan was referring to a single student so the use of the word “honor” was appropriate. Now can we split hairs about why all of these children were needlessly out of school yesterday?
Honors would be correct. A student with honors (recognizing accomplishments,) not an honorable student.
Roll with the paunches.
Thanks, Pat. You are correct in both your corrections of our over-zealous friend, HM. If His/Her NMajesty is wise, he/she will have learned something. That’s a bit more than we can say for the young scholars showing off their SATs yesterday.
When making a sign, a little extra care is taken. Presentation counts!
HM,
Have you heard of spellcheck? When a person is writing a column, on a computer, with hundreds of words – spellcheck will fix anything purposely spelled wrong. The students couldn’t handle making 2-6 word signs without errors.
The real irony is that the city keeps throwing bazillions of dollars at this failing school system, with few results. The effect of Dem-developed school programs like “No Child Left Behind,” Common Core, and now the PROMISE program have had a devastating effect on our public schools. That plus the influx of non-English speaking students – and inclusion policies.
Saw the student demonstration on the news last nite – I was so disappointed to see that the administration allowed this to take place during school hours. But I shouldn’t be surprised – we have a school committee spending its time debating how best to change the names of holidays. More irony.
Uhhhh, Gigi, No Child Left behind was George W Bush’s baby, 100%, and Common Core is opposed by most Dems too.
No child left behind was the brainchild of Sen. Edward Kennedy a flaming liberal Democrat.
No it isnt it was the brain child of Ted “abuser of women” Kennedy
One & the same! And apparently there is a movie coming out in the spring called “Chappaquidic.” (Excuse my spelling.) I know all you libs will enjoy the movie!
Spellcheck is easily overcome with something called proofreading. HM is correct – if Dan wants to criticize students for their spelling he should at the very least proofread his own writing and get the misspelling correct.
Hello. Dan didn’t spell anything wrong. FAKE NEWS!!!
The good news is that some of these kids will be able to vote in November and most will be able to vote in 2020. Thrilled that they are becoming engaged, but sorry it took something like this massacre to make that happen.
“No never”…you need grammar check “HM”. Don’t be a poser learn to use the English language
All of this proves that the schools are just recruiting grounds for liberal causes. The children are not being taught to think independently, but are encouraged to be liberal activists. If the schools can control the young minds then the future of the radical Democrat Progressive party is looking good. Would the children be encouraged to participate in a day off of school for an anti-abortion rally? Would they be given the blessing of local schools for such an event?
If they are not being spoon fed that there are over 50 different types of genders and you can choose daily which one you want to be, they are taught to disrespect conservative voices or any voices that oppose the Progressive cause.
Well said, Pat I totally agree.
If only we could clone Donald Trump what a wonderful world it would be. And Pat could press their suits…while they wear them….like Hope Hicks does….cuz she worships Trump too. All of him.
Pat, you are correct – schools don’t teach critical thinking anymore and only teach their own point of view. Which around here is progressive.
I’ve no problem with students organizing a rally as it falls under free speech. But to have it during school is wrong and is politically motivated.
That’s the problem. This is all about political motivation.
Did you go to school in Pittfield Pat,public schools for liberal causes….name 1 liberal cause you endured
Now if your a student of Fox news propaganda as I am the message sent to the stooges who watch it is to take a position of negitivity during the weeks to come regarding students speaking out.Your to undermine anyone who would support the actions of the kids……Never lose sight of the issue that this is about mass murder in our schools….when journalists find themselves delivering a message developed in deep state Fox to keep the people seperated you become a tool and not a diserning truth seeker.Apropagandist is not a journalist .
The worst time to make a decision about anything is when emotions are running high. That’s common sense. Cooler heads need to make decisions to protect the children. Now we have the radical Dems jumping on the bandwagon and just trying to fan the flames. The young people should have a voice, but the voices of young conservatives should also be included when it comes to safety in the schools.
A bunch of these whiny “kids” are going to be voting this year or next. Hopefully Hannity and Fox news can straighten out their addled brains before the election. Else-wise people like Ryan and O’connell and Jordan may need to find a new line of work.
At last nights Council Meeting with Councilor Moon leading the charge, with her dissertation, which included mentioning Paris? Anyway it was shot down, the smarter four of the group at least knew enough to stay away from this baby, the consultant needed to do his own question and answers, and not defer to the help. Turocy had no clue. Thank you to the Four Councilors who potentially put the back breaking project on hold,( common sense prevailed) thank you to the Wizard and Village Night for speaking on behalf of the taxpayers. Gaetani has been instrumental with his appearances at Council Meetings and his Gaetani News Hour Show, we’re lucky to have his vocal opinion and expertise, he could be the guide that once again will negate huge tax increases.
By the way, whatever happened to the outside firm hired to assess student populations in the elementary schools? I certainly hope 1-2 schools will be closed! The city’s population has changed dramatically in the last 25 years…and yet we still have all these elementary schools up and running.Has anyone heard anything? TSC, I believe you mentioned Stearns.
Most other districts are participating with the REST OF THE COUNTRY on March 14. They also are placing rigid guidelines for the walkout.
Pittsfield is a joke. Name the idiot teachers leading the sheep. They were there front and center.
Bold move by Dick’s Sporting Goods. GOP is taking note.
What Dick’s wants to see happen:
– Ban assault-style firearms
– Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21
– Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks
– Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law
– Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms
– Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background
checks
Does not sound like that should bother too many fair minded people. Still lots of guns and shooting available with these restrictions. How much fire power does the average civilian need?
Keep in mind that the folk who wrote the 2nd amendment, in their wildest imagination, did not envision the immense firepower of today s weapons. I am quite sure they would have amended it then and there if so.
Harrison, I do hope that if they raise the age to 21 they also raise the draft age to 21 as well.
Me too Paul
Kudos to Dick’s for doing this.
Kudos to dicks everywhere
“Ban assault-style firearms”
Start with a definition. GCA bans assault weapons. With psychopaths roaming free, how does this proposal even resolve anything?
“Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21”
All firearms? Even match target rifles used for competitions? How about handguns for use at target training? No distinction between tactical weapons with large loads and target firearms? Why not?
– Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks
No mention of the abundance of magazines. They are manufactured internationally, and they are beyond the range of Big Brother to watch.
But sure, go ahead and ‘ban’ them.
– Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law
Already happens most places. Where is the corollary policy of banning mental health risks and violent felons from freely walking? Let’s talk stricter prison sentences, mandatory observed treatments, mandated state interventions.
– Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms
Databases of private possessions, firearms in particular are hostile moves by the government. following the The Journal News, White Plains, NY, publishing the names of firearm owners, you may sympathize with their desire for privacy. How about a national database of ‘prohibited people’ instead?
– Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background
No such a loophole exists. Where licensing and registration is required, all venues are subject to the same procedures. ATF and state registration personnel attend these shows to facilitate the sales.
As for Dicks, since when does a private business get mired in a Constitutional debate to cobble favor with Democrats? Thanks for the post, I’ll stop purchasing fishing gear and clothing from them.
Also, the ‘backlash’ against the NRA has prompted me to join. That’s $40 in their pockey – money well spent for 10%.
School committee loves dicks
Can someone explain what the heck “Vice Principal of Teaching and Learning” is? Mr. Sheran, can you help us out and prove it’s not some slapass job JIV gave you for buying him drinks at Dotties…
WE ARE SO BROKE!
That would be collusion and as we already know there is NO collusion. I am sure the mayor would back me up on this. So would Marchetti or Ruberto.
Besides, one mans “slapass job” is another mans golden fleece.
Collusion or not, I love how they spent years complaining about lack of funding, only to create a do nothing administrative position for their political shill.
LoneGunMan, they don’t have to explain any of the foolish jobs in the school Dept.
It’s just a “let the good times roll” mentally .
I still think the taxpayers are owed a job description.
None of my teaching friends remember that position even being posted. does this mean the union fools can’t do their own planning and teaching?
What a crock. JIV you suck
Told you before,kids have power.
my kid won’t buy Dick if they continue to sell assault weapons. So times that by 10 million kids who shop there.
When city councilors can afford a 200 dollar increase in taxes every year your screwed ….Tyer will never bullshit this voter again.Moon ,Cacamo will never bs this voter again…1.5 mil on totes…685k at covanta…85 million at water plant….2.5 mil for Sheran and teachers…healthcare cost raised…..if if if we could have a real budget discussion with how to consolidate SCHOOLS to cut budgets. Why do people vote Marchetti, White ,Cacamo, Kroll….it takes nothing to vete higher taxes….these people are not doing conservative budgeting….BS
If Caccamo fooled you, you deserve it
He’s the most useless twat to sit in those chambers. Unfortunately, Ward 3 has noone else except Pauly “the Pill” Capitanio’s puppet
Fox propoganda is doing 24 7 on students ,this station is the violent news channel….hands off mass murder news, demonizing police again.Hannity is so pro right wing wealth and corp power its really bizzar
JIV and Yawn are afraid of kids, that’s why the poet gives accolades at every ten, kids did great, kids are great, now do the scores relate?or do they. JIV is also on notice by kids, kids do have power, and will eventually see through his and every other money sucker that causes economic havoc. Don’t forget, kids have parents who are the taxpayers paying for all this bullshit. It’s kids who will represent the elderly here, not Johnny or Helen or the two Pete’s and Earl, Tony Roads, where was you’re head last night?
You missed the “Your Thougts and Prayers are not Enough” sign
Thoughts and prayers are not enough for the school department. Send money. Sank you very mulch.
Pat and Planet …just guessing but betting the farm your for the Puttin Trump alliance to overthrow democracy .If not when do you want sanctions againts Puttin to start.?
THE PLANET knows nothing about a TrumPutin alliance, but we do know that “democracy” has never been part of U.S. government, to say nothing of this country’s politics.
If the students were protesting in favor of owning and carrying guns, it would not be allowed and viewed as the students taking charge.
There would have been S.W.A.T. teams brought in, tear gas and the school would have been on “lockdown”. It would have been viewed as extremist activity and they would have been disciplined to the fullest extent of the law.
This protest was allowed because it fits the agenda.
Right on, Skip.
Skip: Sad but so true!
Nice point Skip. As long as things meet the liberal agenda everything is peachy.
Everything about JIV and his administration is liberal bent. Including his waistline
Thanks planet for bringing truth to light on the ridiculous gun walkout and especially the sewer renovation. i credit you, your coverage, and your behind the scenes action, and also councilors Connell, Morandi, rivers, and Mazzeo for their. Courageous votes.
Don’t forget the master Water Wizard and Alex, the Village Night. Gaetani’s Show is on tonight should be a good one! Planet excellent coverage as usual. Mazzeo made me Proud.
Don t forget Caccamo the Village Idiot.
It’s called the trumput, it’s about a Alfred e Neuman lookalike, who becomes president and puts up with shenanigans in Roosky for a four year period, during which time billions in illegal money
laundering and unregulated investments of magnitudes unseen, are perfectly legal using the government by laws led by Trump and …….(Putin) regimes thus (trumpet).
So what will the rules be for the next president? Republican or Democrat…can they now do the things Trump is doing without repercussions? If the republicans allow him to go rogue what will their stance be when the next guy does it? They have allowed him to set a precedence.
Kushner invented the business with businee and was the go between with Roosky investors,no accounts allegedly tied to Neuman on paper. Time to make a move on The President.
Are you making a threat against the President?
Glenn do we need to call you out about the petrol years and you’re business practices, didn’t you charge for air?
An impeachment move, Glenn.
The next impeachment may just as likely be against B. Obama. What grounds for Trump?
uh…he is an asshole?
My name is not Glenn, so you’ll want to repost your comments under the correct person.
Let’s Hope that the great One continues the good fight at the City Councils next Meeting concerning the outlandish water-sewer proposals by the E P A and City Councilors that have no clue, and are quite frankly not knowledgeable and clueless. The Consultants and the Commissioner were lucky not to have been in any kind of debate with The former Builder of the Plant, who is quite brilliant concerning these projects, connell and especially Mazzeo and Onn Todd Ricers in a previous meeting were excellent concerning questions given to the so called consultants. The drawings are the only thing we really need at this point, just point Gaetani in the direction of saving millions more for us taxpayers. Moon is clueless.
Mtspellxsux
Trump and Fox news have been denying the alliance of Puttin Trump,The fact that Trump is politically defending this know enemy of USA is something that anyone can acknowledge as right or wrong.Iwill also bet the farm that Trumps support of Puttin is described as fake news…..
Blah,blah, blah Trump.
Mulleur is going to take Trmp Down just like that gas station. Owner back in the 70’s,charging 60 cents more a gallon and screwing the consumer.
Looks like that shot spotter stopped the shootings. Either that or nobody is reporting on them. It must be safe to walk down North street now.
Yes, and thanks you to shot spotter and designated overtime for our citizens, without it what would we do? As Bootlicker Bill says, take care of each other? Hey isn’t that Jerry Springer’s saying?
HughiecYou should go on his show tonight, I’m sure he’ll welcome you with open arms. He savedme about 1300 a year. And that Wizard Guy is going to kill the water project also.
Looks like the Consultant$ did a lot of expen$ive work for nothing. Don’t bring Turocy to tell us what the rates aren’t, and when Gaetani speaks, listen. Or otherwise it will be like using popcorn to take on a Battleship!
Will you people stop the madness! We all know Gaetani is 5 cans short of a six pack! He could barely get 100 votes for Mayor! 99% of the universe knows he’s a nut!
Hugh – the person you are talking about posts under about 12 different names.
And Heckler was the King of gouger’s back in the day.Or,He was the gouger. Used to charge for Air? I though u said 37 names last week fritz….fake news.
“Hugh” we all know you post under many names Mr. G bring one of them
I could be wrong, but I believe translated on topix h a means Big A……
The crazy people are the ones who voted for Tyer and expected things to get better in this city.
Don’t laugh, you’re correct.
I don’t care what the Wizard is short of, he claims on the next project proposal he’ll save another 70 plus for the taxpayer, which will be even easier.Go Wizard!
Hey kids. Protest 7 North Street where the idiot DA works. He regularly bargins away gun charges whe the junior knuckleheads get caught with them.
Re: Open letter to U.S. President Donald Trump
Dear Mr. President Donald Trump,
I watched CBS world news with my senior citizen parents earlier this evening, Wednesday, February 28, 2018. I was saddened and emotionally pained to see the tragic images of babies, toddlers, children, and people severely injured and dead in Syria by their evil dictator’s civil war. I told my parents that I wasn’t affected by the news since we watched CBS’ “60 Minutes” segment on the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school shooting over 5 years ago. My mother told me to write to you and tell you how I feel. I request that you stop the evil dictator’s Syrian regime from killing and injuring babies, toddlers, children and civilian people. I request that you bring this evil dictator to justice. If I were in your shoes as U.S. President, I would immediately tell the international community to stop the Syrian Civil War by bringing the Syrian dictator and his military to justice. I will explain the sadness and emotional pain I felt to my new VA psychologist next week from what I saw on the news tonight when I watched on television the tragic images of injured and dead young children and people in Syria’s Civil War. In closing, I cannot believe that there are still crimes against humanity in our day and age. We are not powerless to stop evil dictators’ respective war crimes anymore!
Sincerely,
Jonathan A. Melle
Very proud that students of Pittsfield Ma. Brought attention to the problem of sales of AR15 in School mass murders in the United States.Fox channel brought more hating to a peaceful protesting by student….Fox makes fun of the kids
JIV better be careful with this kids thing, next thing the inmates will be running the asylum. People like Angila Davis morphed into protests like this.
Dont worry,America is still extremely conservative with Corporations still dictating what to think about how poor people can better support the rich and wealthy class as they struggle to take it with them when they die.Fox and friends is your morning check in just before you take your meds believing you making America great again……I will see you there for tomorrows check in…..The Rich and powerful thank you for your cooperation in this matter
Ban axes and blame the National Ax Association.
http://www.breitbart.com/texas/2018/02/28/police-stop-woman-attacking-las-vegas-elementary-school-ax/
Wouldn’t it make more sense to examine how we treat (or don’t treat) the mentally ill in this country? Many are a danger to society and need to be taken off the streets.
Police were called to Cruz’s home 39 times!
No one was killed by her with the axe, not even harmed. If she had had an AR-15 it would have been an entirely different story.
NIB, what is your definition of a AR-15? Curious to know the bounds of your ignorance.
I was trying to point out the absurdity of blaming the NRA for the school shooting. The NRA had nothing to do with it. Blame falls squarely on the shoulders of a mentally ill young man. Some blame also falls on the local sheriff’s dept. and the FBI for failing to act on tips. Some blame can also be placed on the school’s participation in the PROMISE program which kept Cruz’s name out of arrests reports and off the radar of the “do not sell to” lists
Simply put: This is a White House in crisis. Hicks’ departure adds to that sense that the sky is falling around and on Trump. There’s no spin to put out that. You can’t polish a turd. And when you try to, it tends to get all over the place.
Dropping like flies, its now 2 hours everyday on introductions of new staff
Just so Pat knows I will do you research, public schools are now the product of the right wing regressive party. If you and the other wingers dont like it vote democratic,Ed reform is your idea and there is no wiggle room in your approach to your math.Nobody on this board is smart enough to graduate grammar school
What do we say about son in law Jarrod ?Planet,Pat,Shotgun?…I know your lovin this guy.You know it too
Skip brings up a great point, 2’nd amendment protects us ( we the people ) against an offensive government. The progressives are far better at branding and marketing than the right. But no one wants to take your guns ! Tell that to the Indians, give us your weapons we will not harm you.
When you hear that put on your bullshit proof vest
And Capeless resigns.
No one has mentioned the great assistance Mr Gaetani gave to shut down the Mayor and the seven Dwarfs which will possibly end in a couple of their political careers for what could have been massive tax increases again. The Builder of the Plant has said the second part will be even easier to avoid, saving us another 160 million total. The Eagle has not mentioned what reason the votes were for In favor, and neither the C C or it’s Mayor who voted and supported a mega-million Plant. Connell,Mazzeo, Morandi, and Rivers examined it thoroughly and came to the right conclusion rather than ram-rodding it down our throats. Gaetani was definitely the main reason to push forward,no doubt! Good Job!
Trumps got problems. Dow is down.
DA Capeless to quit. Who will be the next GIB DA?
FINALLY an article in the BB about the terrible pothole situation in this city. Supposedly a special “pot hole” unit will be created by Krol and Connell since they are calling on City Hall to create a “rapid response” plan. At least 5 people wrecked their tires on Tuesday night from a massive pothole on Dalton Avenue. This is why I really dread driving at night in this city. You have no idea if you will make it home with your car in one piece. It’s impossible to see these craters at night.
Capeless isn’t even that old to retire, is he? Must be something else political going on since it always is in this city.
