“ALL’s WELL THAT ENDS WELL” — IMPEACHMENT FARCE WILL END IN SENATE WITH ACQUITTAL

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION DEC. 13-5, 2019) — In case you haven’t heard, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee filed two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. Committee chair Gerry Nadler and House speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke of the “solemnity of the moment.” Fittingly, they arrived on Capitol Hill that morning in a 24-member clown car. The two charges equalled the arrival in gravitas:
Article 1: They don’t like Trump’s potty mouth.
Article 2: Trump told Greta Thunberg she would be better off chillin’ at the movies with her friends.
Clearly, these two narrowly defined indictments meet the Constitution’s definition of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
All seriousness aside, at Steve Allen used to say, how can anyone take the Democrats seriously? They made it clear the moment Trump won the 2016 election that they intended to remove him from office by whatever means necessary. Now with their most recent filing, they “believe that the 2020 election is too important to be left to voters” (Rich Lowry, editor of The National Review). For Dems, this amounts to a last-second Hail Mary flung into the end zone but without as much chance of success.
Consider:
- They have an “inclusive and diverse” field of presidential hopefuls who have poisoned the waters among themselves as they have jockeyed through an ugly nomination process — and the primaries haven’t even begun.
- Each one has shot himself in the head, with Joe Biden and Peter Buttigieg emerging as the front runners (INSERT JOKE HERE).
- They look at Trump’s record and go “uh-oh.” A record pace to the economy. First major tax reform in 30 years. Taxes cut for almost 85% of middle-class Americans. Record low unemployment across all demographics (Hispanics, Asians, blacks, youth). Cut taxes for small businesses by 20% (one beneficiary: THE PLANET). GDP of 3.1 this year. Half million new jobs. Record performance of stock markets. One million more job openings than unemployed people. Each area you turn — national security, health care, social programs, immigration, law and justice, veterans — Trump has thrown a complete game. Not a perfect game, but, say, a three-hitter.
- It is now deep into the presidential election cycle. Betraying an incredible lack of faith in their ability to win in 2020, Dems have foolishly launched an impeachment process that has no chance of winning. Moderate and centrist Democrats are now scurrying, not knowing what to do, particularly those up for re-election or election in 2020. Do they side with the Uber-leftist and out-of-touch wing (AOC, Zoe Lofgren, Sheila Jackson et. al.) and curry favor, or do they break with the radicals to have a shot of winning office?
- Trump is ahead in key battleground states (once again, Massachusetts will be as relevant to the 2020 election as they buggy whip is to a Tesla).
- Throughout the impeachment process, they have repeatedly tripped over themselves. First, they pedaled the quid pro quo argument, changed to bribery, now to allowing the Ukraine to “meddle” in the 2016 election and fear of same for 2020. Ironically, because of their actions, the Democrats themselves are a threat to the 2020 election (Lowry) because they are driving public support to the President. Trump in a landslide.
Trump will be the third president to be impeached (Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton; Richard Nixon was never impeached. He voluntarily resigned from office). THE PLANET thought we’d never see a more frivolous application of this Constitutional bromide than what the Republicans did to Bill Clinton, who got a blow job in the Oval Office from an ambitious and eager White House intern. The Pelosi-Nadler Show beats “Let’s Get Bubba.” By far.
At the 10th and final hearing before the Judiciary, Nadler led the debate. He made no mention of depriving Team Trump from presenting witness. He forgot to talk about the secret testimony, held outside of public view, in Star Chamber settings. Pelosi has yet to set a date for a House vote. She will also decide on how much debate to allow. Then it will go to the Senate, where the Republicans hold a 53-47 edge. We know what will happen.
- Trump’s acquittal will be certain.
- The vote will not be strictly along party lines. THE PLANET predicts several Democrat defections among moderate and centrist senators.
- The public will react favorably to Trump, who will be cast as a victim. We in Massachusetts often forget: The radical left only appeals to the coasts. In the vast, open spaces of Middle America, the judgment is more bread-and-butter. In the end Trump will pick up support.
- The whole clown show will end in November 2020, when Donald John Trump wins re-election.

Apparently the Democrats forgot that free speech applies to the President just as it does to the rest of us.
Trump sure as hell understands free speech when he’s sitting on the crapper at 3:00 AM pissing and moaning while Tweeting, claiming he wants to present his side, but when offered the chance, refuses. As Trump himself said, “Innocent people don’t plead the Fifth Amendment.” By refusing to allow people to testify or release documents, Trump has done exactly that. Don’t pee in my pool and tell me that the heat is from a pool heater.
Why should he release documents? They haven’t even voted on impeachment yet. He knows this is a clown show so why should he willingly cooperate? He released the first and most important document and that was all that was needed since the Dems were making it all about that phone call. It turned out to be “nothing there” so the impeachment process should end, but just like they kept the Mueller report going for two years even when they knew there was nothing there, they are doing the same thing with impeachment…it’s all for a show trial.

Many presidents in the past would have been a candidate for impeachment under the criteria that the Dems are using. Democrats have already said they will impeach again if this one doesn’t work. No crimes means, there are no witnesses.
Obstruction of Congress does not exist ; it’s a play on the term ‘obstruction of justice.’ Their ckaim to obstruction is also weak. Nadler’s team demanded WH mbers to appear, but the Executive, an equal branch, felt the demand unreasonable for numerous legal reasons. So, they appealed to the courts. Nadler refused to wait on the Court and instead represented the delay as obstruction. There’s no such a thing as ‘obstruct ion of Congress’ and the Executive (and Congress) is permitted request intervention of the Third Branch. Why didn’t Nadler want to hear the Court’s ruling?
Abuse of power is the ubiquitous claim throughout the generations challenging controversial policies. I bet Pres. Jefferson got hit with that one over the Louisiana Purchase which took place without Congressional oversight.
I support a quick orderly dismissal of charges. Hunter/Joe can get their day in Court in another venue. Perhaps the courts that hear sedition cases would be better.

Pittsfield School Committee approves pay hikes for school leaders

PITTSFIELD — Pay raises will roll out soon for the top four leaders of the Pittsfield Public Schools.
The School Committee on Wednesday approved the salary hikes as part of a set of fresh six-year contracts for Superintendent Jason “Jake” McCandless, Deputy Superintendent Joseph Curtis, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance Kristen Behnke, and Assistant Superintendent of Career and Technical Education Tammy Gage.
The contracts are retroactive to July 2019 and run through June 2025. After next year, each administrator will receive 2 percent increases each year through the end of the contracts.
McCandless currently earns $160,156 per year, but the new contract bumps his pay to $165,156. In July 2020, that will increase to $169,156.
Curtis earns $117,312 a year; that will increase to $122,406, and then to $127,500. Behnke’s salary of $112,208 will jump to $118,604, and then to $125,000 in July.
For Gage, who handles the city’s evolving vocational program at the newly built Taconic High School, the new contract increases her pay from $97,291 to $101,146 for this school year, and to $105,000 in July.
The School Committee understands the value in McCandless and his cabinet, committee Chairwoman Katherine Yon said, and the salary increases reflect a desire to keep that team in place. Superintendent positions continue to open up in the Berkshires, she said, and it’s important that the district not lose any of its leaders to districts that, historically, pay more than Pittsfield.

Nancy Pelosi admitted yesterday that this process to get rid of President Trump has been going on for 22 months. So revealing how she blends the impeachment process and the Russian witch hunt into an agenda that is one and the same and has the same intent…overturning an election by people who know better about what is best for this country. They have been promising to do this from the moment President Trump was elected. Their arrogance is off the charts.

You and I remember it well. The vote theft occurred in one Florida county and the upheld along party lines by SCOTUS. We spoke out loud and well about this theft. I think you know but I’ll point out for others, I am not apart of any “wing, movement, or political association.” I’m not a card-carrying Communist. I’m not ideologically “anything.” This, I believe, is what makes THE PLANET’s view so attractive — for yeah and neigh — to readers and viewers. Actually, the Court ruled that the Federal Court cannot intervene in state’s balloting. Hence, the opinion states that no precedent can be drawn from their opinion.
Recount of the entire State of Florida (done by Newsweek? not certain) gave Gore the majority. However, Gore did not see an advantage in reviewing the overall state and insisted on recounting only two ‘blue’ counties. Recounts restricted to Broward/Dade confirmed GWB’s majority.
Perhaps Gore should not have tried to count out voters he did not trust.

The attack on the Electoral College is an existential threat to a united republic. Why? A popular vote would catalyze the power of the two political parties to appeal to regional majorities. James Ceaser writes in Presidential Selection that the Parties ‘reformed’ themselves in the 20th century to become populist entities. The downside resulted in candidates such as Forbes running for executive office simply to highlight special interest platforms. Is an outsider running for office always bad? Are insiders free of corruption? Obviously not, but the argument holds that populism favors ambition and self interest.
The next worst step to take is reducing the presidential selection to a rude popular count. Want to win an election under the proposed terms? Grab a demagogue and squeeze the votes from the urban centers located in just a few states. One potential consequence will be the Federal Government losing its ability to manage regional divides and conflicts that exist risking dissolution, war, or at the least instability and disaffection.
The worst outcome is hard to imagine, but we have suffered wars and violent encounters between states and Feds before. The lesson of the Soviet Union could be informative. How does a huge nation (not a small one like Denmark or France) maintain a stable union comprising conflicting regional interests and little shift in identity? Will a popular vote placate all interests and provide a government that enjoys universal legitimacy or will that government enjoy little respect in general?
Opponents of the Electoral College may not appreciate the benefits of a stable government. The odds of a democratic system serving the interests of 250 million people and the territory from coast to coast surviving the test of time is a feat not matched by any. China and Russia manage to rule by force, and they have popular votes as it happens. Their leaders win 99% of the vote, the opponent gets 20% and a stiff prison sentence.

Boris Johnson has won in the UK. Just like in this country it’s the “in touch with reality and bread and butter” folks who gave him the victory. It’s the people on the coast like California and here in the Northeast who want to do away with the electoral college trying to fool people into believing it would be fair while knowing it favors high population areas and would give them a victory every time. When it comes to seeking power and money, there is nothing they will not attempt to use to fool the American people.

Impeach Trump!
Pelosi is on record saying they have spent 22 + months doing that. They have nothing but blank pieces of paper bearing testimony, just like Joe McCarthy.
Clinton wasn’t impeached for the act so much as lying under oath? I was too young to really remember well, but I always recall that being the teaching point.
It is going to be really interesting to see how it plays out in November. I could see it going either way. Many of my republican friends who voted for Trump will probably do so again, but really wish he would just tone it down with the rhetoric. The unemployment rate, rising retirement accounts, and rising disposable income all speaks for itself, he needs to stay on that.
Tulsi is the only Democrat I could see myself voting for. I also respect the fact that she announced she would not be running for reelection in Hawaii to focus on her unlikely presidential bid. If I was a taxpayer in Hawaii, I would applaud that, as opposed to Warren who has done nothing since reelection other then on the national circuit.
My Christmas wish is that McConnell inflicts maximum pain on the Dimocrats. But that probably won’t happen. He’ll just kill the chicken running around without a head and move on.

I have both read them as well as watched live the proceedings. A sick performance.
There are no impeachable offenses in Nadler’s document plus no consensus that new evidence is to be found. Therefore, the proper action is to dismiss the case without examining the hands behind this document in pursuing the higher object of preserving what remains of the legitimacy of the Congress as large and the House in particular.
The first article, “abuse of power,” is so vague as to be meaningless. It is not Constitutional, which will help from it becoming a precedent. If Article 1 is taken seriously, it will subject EVERY future president to the same change should the opposition party hold the House.

Not sure everyone is taking into consideration that Trump has changed our government forever. All the things he has done and allowed to be done are now the norm. It’s the maximum because they pleaded the charges down. If they were to have gone after all charges in court, it would have been 15 years. When you pleaded down the charges and half of them don’t even make it to court, that’s why you get 2 1/2 years as the maximum charge.
No justice was served here, they will qualify for release in about 19 months.
It was a success because DA Andrea Harrington got to not miss any yoga classes, she could issue a press release (the Eagle is now just printing her press releases with fluff at the top and bottom of the “articles”) and it protects her budget which is now over budget.
You need money to prosecute cases, especially when you get paid a big salary and can’t do the job yourself.

PITTSFIELD — Pay raises will roll out soon for the top four leaders of the Pittsfield Public Schools.
The School Committee on Wednesday approved the salary hikes as part of a set of fresh six-year contracts for Superintendent Jason “Jake” McCandless, Deputy Superintendent Joseph Curtis, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance Kristen Behnke, and Assistant Superintendent of Career and Technical Education Tammy Gage.
The contracts are retroactive to July 2019 and run through June 2025. After next year, each administrator will receive 2 percent increases each year through the end of the contracts.
McCandless currently earns $160,156 per year, but the new contract bumps his pay to $165,156. In July 2020, that will increase to $169,156.
Curtis earns $117,312 a year; that will increase to $122,406, and then to $127,500. Behnke’s salary of $112,208 will jump to $118,604, and then to $125,000 in July.
For Gage, who handles the city’s evolving vocational program at the newly built Taconic High School, the new contract increases her pay from $97,291 to $101,146 for this school year, and to $105,000 in July.
The School Committee understands the value in McCandless and his cabinet, committee Chairwoman Katherine Yon said, and the salary increases reflect a desire to keep that team in place. Superintendent positions continue to open up in the Berkshires, she said, and it’s important that the district not lose any of its leaders to districts that, historically, pay more than Pittsfield.
Searches are underway for superintendents in the Lenox and Lee school districts.
“We don’t want them to go anywhere,” Yon said. “We want to show them how much we value their service.”
The city’s schools chief sought to leave the district in recent months — and was a finalist for an Eastern Massachusetts position — but in October he signaled his intentions to stay in Pittsfield.
Yon said a look at recent superintendent salaries statewide put McCandless toward the bottom of the list, while his years of experience place him toward the top.
Yon noted that Curtis’ predecessor made $125,000, and Behnke’s slate of duties and her budgeting skills call for a salary to match. Plus, Yon said, she is aware of people who Behnke previously trained — and who have since left the district — who now make more than her.
Gage is newly in charge of “our jewel over there in west Pittsfield,” Yon said, and “we see what she’s already done.”
“This is a very fine team that Dr. McCandless has put together,” she said.

“Justice needs to be for everyone” – including those who have committed crimes? It is the most cynical political campaign of our time. These politicos have seen an opportunity for votes among those who normally did not vote – criminals and their supporters. Pandering to their interests is not justice for all. It’s justice for nobody.
Totally frightening how they are pandering for votes from criminals. Of course the criminals want light or no sentences for their crimes. This is how our country goes down the tubes very quickly.
Especially in cases where people are committing robbery. All it takes is one person fighting back as maybe Tessa Majors did and the whole thing escalates from a small time robbery to murder. If this hadn’t been allowed to continue, this young woman would still be alive. Robbery under a certain amount is fine according to far left district attorneys, even if they are using a weapon, as these young people were doing? Then the whole thing escalated to murder which is not shocking considering it was allowed to continue because it was just young people who maybe needed the money.
Be prepared to pay for broken windows policing and incarceration. You don’t want to pay for better roads or education, but are you prepared to double your taxes for a military state?

Harrington and the other progressive wing nuts claim this allows for more resources to attack violent crime. What most know nothing DAs like Andrea Harrington don’t get, along with her supporters. Broken windows policing is much cheaper.
We can use the Majors case as an example.
The police, at the instruction of the DA and Mayor in NYC have walked back from petit crimes and crimes committed by teens.
The police still take the reports, just don’t do anything.
In the last year, at that exact spot, there have been 37 reports of muggings. They did nothing. Well it seems Ms Majors fought back and was killed for her trouble.
In the last two days the NYPD has authorized $250k in overtime using an “all hands on deck” approach to solving this crime. The will spend an additional $150k-250k to close it out. They were out there today with divers in the pond and there were 35 officers on extra duty today doing extra canvassing, keeping a section of the park closed. So even before a trial they’ve spent over $400k to close this case. Right now there are confessions, who knows if they will hold? If they do that’s about another $100k in DA money spent on labor. If the confessions don’t hold, expect the DA to spend over a million per to prosecute.
Now let’s talk about incarceration.
Three perps, for a minimum of 25 years, at an average of $80k a year per perp for incarceration.
That’s $6 million.
There will probably be a lawsuit by the victims family, figure $2 to $4 million to settle.
So we are looking at a $10 million price tag for one murder and the incarceration of three juveniles for the next 25 years.
The alternative would have been 4-8 hours of a beat cops pay collaring these kids and putting them in the system. Early intervention and doing the job the parents and family won’t.
Progressive DAs like Andrea Harrington don’t get that actual early intervention by police actually stop crimes from escalating. Putting a kid though the system and in juvenile detention can, and often is, the first step for putting a kid on the right track and creating a productive citizen. Their absent fathers and their incapable or overworked mothers, aunts, and grandmothers can’t do the job, so the police are forced to intervene.
Anyone that tells you that broken windows policing doesn’t work or is too expensive has never been on the front line of law enforcement. They don’t see the positive impact it has because their too busy writing grants to do studies to prove the opposite because it fits their narrative.

It is shocking and sad to have more concern for the murderers. What happened to respect and concern for women by the Democrats? A young woman is the victim of not only the murderer or murderers, but of the insanity of restorative justice. Who is going to speak up for her?

The NYPD investigation into the fatal mugging of Barnard College freshman Tessa Majors suffered a setback Saturday, with officials setting free one of the two young teen suspects in custody for the murder.
The 14-year-old boy, whose name is being withheld by The Post, had been the second kid arrested in the stabbing, but was sprung late Friday after city Law Department officials — who handle the prosecution of juveniles — declined to prosecute him for lack of evidence, law enforcement sources told The Post.
“He came in” to Morningside Heights’ 26th Precinct, said one source. “He lawyered up. They had to let him go,” the source said.
“He’s still a suspect,” another source said. “But they want more evidence. They want a stronger case.”

“It is a horrible, horrible thing that Tessa Majors was stabbed to death in Morningside Park. Just horrible. Yet, this whole thing just reeks of Columbia’s uncomfortable relationship with Harlem and our failure to address urban violence with anything other than policing. I used to walk through that park every day to and from work, but about a year and a half ago I noticed more and more drug-related activity, and groups of young kids following me through the park. I started taking another route to work. Last April, Bob Lederer, a long-time LGBT and AIDS activist was attacked and beaten at 4:30 in the afternoon in Morningside Park. He spent 8 days in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury. Activists in the community were concerned about this, but wanted to explore alternatives to police-related, carceral, responses to the safety issues in the park – especially since it was young kinds who were suspected of these muggings/robberies. They had a restorative justice approach to the issue, not a demand for more cops, (see Street Corner Resources, https://www.facebook.com/StreetCornerRes), but have had trouble getting the City or the Community Board to help, so the problem persisted with few efforts to address the problem of safety in the park. Meanwhile Columbia did nothing. Didn’t notify the Columbia community of an increase in violence in Morningside Park, so new members of the community like Tessa would be on alert.”
This is their attitude. The above quote from a local in the area where the crime happened. Reading the comments to this post you will hear people calling for other who should have “talked” to these groups of violent kids. They didn’t want extra police. They believed restorative justice would solve the problem. It didn’t. They want to blame Columbia and not their insane approach to preventing crime.
What the neighborhood is really like where Tessa Majors was murdered. Total disrespect of everyone by the young people who have formed into gangs and everybody just allowed it to happen because they are young people. The youth is out of control. Swearing at anyone who attempts to give them any form of discipline. Leave them alone was the message from everyone including the schools and the police. They are just young people.

RECALL.
(a)
Application – Any holder of an elected office in the city, with more than six months remaining in the term of office for which the officer was elected, may be recalled therefrom by the voters of the city in the manner provided in this section. No recall petition shall be filed against an officer within six months after taking office.
(b)
Recall Petition – A recall petition may be initiated by the filing of an affidavit containing the name of the officer sought to be recalled and a statement of the grounds for recall, provided that the affidavit is signed by at least 500 voters for the office of mayor or councilor-at-large and at least 300 voters for any other elected officials; provided, however, that the signatures for a recall petition for the office of ward city councilor shall be from certified voters in the ward for which the councilor was elected. The city clerk shall thereupon deliver to those voters making the affidavit copies of petition blanks demanding such recall, copies of which printed forms the city clerk shall keep available. The blanks shall be issued by the city clerk, with signature and official seal attached thereto. The blanks shall be dated, shall be addressed to the city council and shall contain the names of all the persons to whom the blanks are issued, the number of blanks so issued, the name of the person whose recall is sought, the office from which removal is sought and the grounds of recall as stated in the affidavit. A copy of the petition shall be entered in a record book to be kept in the office of the city clerk. Said recall petition shall be returned and filed with the city clerk within 28 days after the filing of the affidavit, and shall have been signed by at least 20% of the voters of the city for any officer elected at large and signed by at least 20% of the voters of the ward for an officer elected by ward. The city clerk shall submit the petition to the registrars of voters and the registrars shall, within five days, certify thereon the number of signatures which are names of voters.

Recall Election – If the petition shall be found and certified by the city clerk to be sufficient, the city clerk shall submit the same with such certificate to the city council within five days, and the city council shall give written notice of the receipt of the certificate to the officer sought to be recalled and shall, if the officer does not resign within five days thereafter, order an election to be held on a date fixed by the city council not less than 64 days and not more than 90 days after the date of the city clerk’s certificate that a sufficient petition has been filed; provided, however, that if any other city election is to occur within 120 days after the date of the certificate, the city council shall postpone the holding of the recall election to the date of such other election. If a vacancy occurs in said office after a recall election has been ordered, the election shall not proceed as provided in this section.
In the Dec 8 edition of the Eagle there is another excellent article about the museum and its selling of the art. What I got out of it is that the museum board AGREED to be open about where the sold art money is and what is being done with it. And if I understand the further reading is that the people running the finances are NOT being open about the finances. Now why would they not be open as they said they would?
