THE PLANET recently had coffee on successive days on two well-known political figures. The politics discussed shall remain off the record, identities unrevealed, but the polemics turned up a topic all of us share.

Memento Mori, as the Latin phrase goes, translated as “Remember that you [have to] die.” The clause has its roots in ancient philosophy, Judaism, Christianity, and literature. In many monasteries, as monks pass each other, they might utter the phrase. We might well do the same.

Far from being a grim depressive, the reminder helps put into perspective our allotted time here on earth. It eventually comes to an end. As Peter Arlos used to say, “It’s over in a flash.” Once again, the aging Greek God was right.

Memento” is 2nd person singular, imperative mode (subject “You” understood”), active voice for “Memini” (“Remember). “Mori” is the present tense infinitive of the verb “morior,” which means “to die.” THE PLANET finds these derivations fascinating, while the Latin echoes ancient roots.

Our time requires an appreciation of its preciousness, not a panicked exploitation of its fleetingness. The first lives IN the moment and leads to fulfillment. The second lives FOR the moment and leads to forfeit. The first empowers. The second destroys.

Dim Dems

No level of crime, no spike in violence or depth of economic depression has shaken the loyalties of Detroit voters from their Democrat masters. The complete and generational failure of the education system hasn’t done a damn thing either. Nothing will.

It’s not just Detroit, where beautiful skyscrapers sit empty, vacant and rotting, where this loyalty exists. Name a major city and you find the same thing. You’d be hard-pressed to walk a mile in San Francisco without stepping on half a dozen used syringes and in several dozen piles of human waste, yet not a single elected Democrat in the city fear anyone taking their job outside of the rare primary challenge.

THE PLANET shares these words (Town Hall, Derek Hunter) to see if you note the similarities to Dem politics in the People’s Democratic Socialist Republic of Pittsfield?

William Shatner has long been a favorite at this address, and we admired his work long before he played James T. Kirk on Star Trek.

As most of you know, Shatner, 90, set a record for becoming the oldest person to travel into space. Most rational minds applauded him for the achievement, but many (including on this board) dissed him. The disses including the jibes of George Takei, who’s had a long-running feud with Shatner. Sulu blasted Shatner for elating off. Kirk had the perfect response:

“Don’t hate George. The only time he gets press is when he talks bad about me. He claims 50+ years ago I took away a camera angle that denied him 30 more seconds of prime time TV. I’m giving it back to him now by letting him spew his hatred for the world to see! Bill the 🐷.”

Touche, Captain.

Exploitation or Empowerment?

Do you know of Saartjie “Sara” Bartman? She lived in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Read this excerpt from a recent online opinion piece:

Today, the Baartman body can be advantageous, especially on social media, where Black women have the opportunity to produce content that’s socially and culturally relevant to them and their audiences – and where users can make money off their posts.

On various platforms, women leverage their looks to obtain paid advertisements or receive free gifts, services or merchandise from various beauty and apparel companies. They’re also more likely to gain more followers – and perhaps attract more wealthy suitors, depending on their ambitions – by hewing more closely to the contemporary Baartman ideal.

On the other hand, it cannot be denied that Baartman’s image is rooted in a legacy that is engulfed by slavery, unwillful submission and colonialism. The white gaze that fetishized Baartman’s body as exotic and overtly sexual was the same one that promulgated the stereotype that Black women were sexually promiscuous, lascivious and hypersexual.

Black women today can strive for [Baartman’s] body type and make money off it -– as long as these women are comfortable with being objectified.

The “Baartman Body” features as it’s top attraction a butt so large it could sit on weather balloon and call it an egg. Saartjie Bartman was a black woman from Africa ruthlessly exploited and put on exhibition for her grossly giganticus glutei. Today, Kardashians Lil Kims have projected a form of female “beauty” that could only happen in racist Colonial times or today on social media. Both are exploiting racism, the first for its cruelty, the second for its lucre. So tell us, who are the true racists?

Hello Dirty Bird (Berkshire Eagle) Editors,

I read Danny Jin’s op-ed that basically says that the Berkshire legislative delegate Incumbents – Chrome Dome Adam Hinds, Shitty (Smitty) Pignatelli, Trippy Country Buffet (Tricia Farley Bouvier), and “the Mayor” John Barrett III – will all still be in their musical chairs elected seats in Boston throughout the next decade – the 2020s. Chrome Dome Adam Hinds bid for Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts may not succeed, but he will have statewide name recognition in future state elections. Basically, it will be “Business as usual” from Boston all the way west to the beautiful Berkshires. The problem with that is that Boston’s Statehouse only does DISSERVICES to the beautiful Berkshires.  State administered aid to local governments and public school districts is always underfunded. Beacon Hill lawmakers are still sitting on $10 billion in cash for months now, while public schools, infrastructure, state funding, and so on are all in need of financial assistance from Boston’s useless career politicians. If Berkshire County wants to stop having statewide declines in its population decade after decade, then invest needed state funds into working class or affordable housing, as well as subsidized and public housing for the region’s underclass. Poor and working class people can only work if they have housing within their limited financial needs. Public policy is not rocket science, Dirty Bird (Berkshire Eagle) Editors. The state provides the financial assistance via state funding, aid and public programs to help a region such as Berkshire County meet its important needs for well performing public schools, affordable housing, police and fire, roads and bridges, and so on. Instead, Chrome Dome, Shitty, Trippy Country Buffet, and the Mayor all collected their 3 pay raises earlier this year of 2021 and are still sitting on $10 billion in state cash that rightfully belongs in the pockets of the people and taxpayers of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Warning….while Covid cases are trending down in many places they are actually going up in Pittsfield. Use your own judgement but don’t expect city officials to make any outward acknowledgments. According to BHS site 181 new cases in last seven days.

I wonder what the image Pittsfield portrays to the rest of the world. I always felt it was important to try to improve things for the next generation. This would be done by volunteering and giving a helping hand when one was needed. I am not sure I see this trait in the younger generation although maybe that is just a trait of my age. Hopefully things will improve but after watching the debates for city council I am not so sure.

I agree about William Shatner and the lack of respect he received from so many on his trip into space. Even the British monarchy, William, had to chime in and say that “We need to worry about the Earth and not escaping into space”. None of this younger generation gets that going into space like this does make us appreciate Earth all the more. We realize we all need to get along here because Earth is life. It puts a perspective on all of the insanity our planet is experiencing now with this push toward one world government and the toxicity of how they are setting people up against each other to achieve their goals. Seeing Earth from space should make us cherish our planet and our freedoms.

People obviously prefer living in filth and decay and are happy with that rather than voting in people who would clean up their cities. In the end, people get what they vote for as we see here in Pittsfield also. If they don’t bother to vote, then that also shows they don’t care about their city.

Let us say, hypothetically, that a city has 12 candidates running for city council. And all 12 tell you that they want to give back to their city and will do all they can to make it better. But then, nine of the twelve turn out to be liars and proceed to join with a mayor and only do things to make things better for themselves and their friends.

My point is that very often, (more often in cities like Pittsfield) you cannot tell the wolves from the sheep and they wind up eating you and your lunch before you know what hit ya. In a city like, say Pittsfield, the odds of the voters being able to elect enough councilors to offset the puppeted rubber stampers is astronomical. It has not happened in thirty years and is not projected to happen for the next thirty. That is why thousands of the cream of the crop residents have just given up and moved the hell out.

When that feel good promotional video is doctored up and released on the public, it will show hundreds of people on bikes grinning like chimpanzees as they make their way down North street. What viewers will not know however is that it was a staged event that will never happen again without rerecruiting the same bikers back to do it all over again. The video also will not show the dark side, the failing schools, the almost daily drug over doses and deaths or how much of the city is dependent on government handouts. You can put ANYTHING in a video. but that does not make it real.. Beware of alternative facts.

A Chinese woman living in Virginia who is protesting against CRT in the schools says that the Chinese infiltration of America is complete. She grew up in China during the Mao Revolution and says that Democrats are using the same communist tactics used in China to gain total control in this country. They want to spy on our bank accounts and make us explain any money we have or we may lose our insurance. They want to indoctrinate our children with their anti-American education, and just like in China, they are telling parents not to interfere in the indoctrination process of their children.

Good question. Putin is doing it without being armed by using the ignorant masses embedded in American society. Much like Scientology leaders he has learned that there is a large subset of humanoids whose brains lack critical thinking abilities and are easily co-opted by basic KGB methods. Re: I must say something about education in the past, specifically ’67-’70 @ PHS. It was a time of turbulence. It was also a time of change as school teachers were being re-branded as Educators and students swallowing all of the left wing diatribe that was dished out to them.
I was blessed to have actual TEACHERS that required discipline, attendance, homework and attention. I wasn’t a fledgling rocket scientist but I knew where I wanted to go.
At that time I looked at them as “pains in my ass,” but my desired vocation/profession required these skills, knowledge and abilities and I am so thankful.
A lot of them have passed on; a few remain, may be someone in this post blog?
One of the best in the field was an Art teacher. A young, skinny guy, his name escapes me. (LOL) My profession required me to recreate, in detail, scenes for insurance purposes; to make mock ups and to create attack zones for Police, Fire & EMS response.
My Major @ NASC was Art,,,, but it really wasn’t a recognized Major, I excelled because of TEACHERS of the past.
MISS Zieminski, MISTER Gardner, et ux stand out. Also Ms GUILTINAN & Mr. CHASE. Sorry, I forgot other names, but after 51 years, (sh)it happens.
Those were TEACHERS that were hired based upon their qualifications.
If these are the Golden years, they really suck sewer gas reading about the poor, oppressed students of to day. They wouldn’t have lasted a minute with some of the old timers!!

I read some of the news articles today about Berkshire area State Representative since 2011 named Paul Mark (also known as Paul “Marx”) running for Berkshire State Senator in 2022 with the nearly full support of the politically connected few publicly endorsing his campaign on Park Square in Pittsfield Massachusetts today (Monday, 10/18/2021). I followed Representative Paul Mark’s public record, and it is one of supporting hundreds of millions of dollars in state tax breaks for Boston area politically connected businesses who are nowhere to be found in the beautiful Berkshires. It is one of voting in near lockstep with the top down Speaker(s) of the Boston State House in favor of closed door State House rules, tax hikes on the struggling working class such as his vote to raise the state’s gas tax, and voting for the all to powerful Speaker(s) of the Boston State House who always favors the politically connected few, while leaving the public in proverbial Siberia or the Russia-like one political (Democratic) Party rule. What exactly has Paul Mark accomplished for Berkshire County and Western Massachusetts during his decade in Boston? I would like to know because I am unable to list any of his public accomplishments for the beautiful Berkshires other than him voting for his own 40% legislative pay raise in early-2017 and collecting countless other legislative pay raises that have cost state taxpayers tens of millions of tax dollars. Why is Beacon Hill still sitting on $10 billion in cash for months on end? Does Paul Mark have a plan on how to allocate this huge sum of state cash? Will Paul “Marxism” only work for the politically connected few? My prediction is that the politically connected public unions and Boston State House special interests will benefit greatly from a future Berkshire State Senator Paul Mark, while the people and taxpayers will still be in Siberia under Paul “Marxism”.

I assume they all have to drive the Pike and yet won’t push for widening it so people can drive the speed limit as opposed to being stopped. At least some of the foliage looked nice and I was able to take some pictures while stopped in traffic

Can you just imagine what Christmas shopping is going to be like this year? Most stores cannot find help now and they usually put on many more to keep up with Xmas. This is why we need the Haitians and Afghanistan i peoples. Not to mention Walmart says they may be putting shoppers on barges and taking them out to the ships in the harbor to do their shopping due to the back up at the ports.
But seriously, this is a good year to send a message to those little bastards that misbehaved all summer and don’t get them a god damn thing. They don’t deserve it and should not have gotten anything last year, but you had to give in because you are weak. Just say NO! Get the hell out of here ya lil shits.
