BLACK FRIDAY WEEKEND MEANS READERS HAVE ‘THE TALKING STICK’

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE BLACK FRIDAY WEEKEND EDITION, NOV. 26-8, 2021) — This weekend, our focus is on you. THE PLANET, and THE PLANET alone, affords its readers instant feedback opportunities in real time on the stories we post — and also on other issues and matters that are on their minds.

THE PLANET has long made appeals to keep comments in good taste, factual, responsive, and intelligent enough to “move the discussion forward.” Those appeals, however, are made with a heavy dose of pragmatism, particularly with respect to how the internet operates. Every day, we give YOU the “talking stick,” and, along with the content of our columns, believe that to be our most important public service.

———- ooo ———-

When we started (2010) to research “how” to build a site like this, one of the key decisions we had to make involved comments: To allow or not to allow? That was the question. We heard arguments and good ones from both sides. In the end, it was an easy choice given our belief in free speech and free press.

Often it’s a fine line that separates the cut-off point between fair comment and words that “cross the line.” Sight unseen and all things being equal, THE PLANET‘s default position is to “Allow it.” We believe free speech should be just that, “free.”

As this site has grown, we have reached enough circulation to be attractive to Google and Amazon. They soliciting ads and we provide the space. Our one hard rule was never to solicit or accept any money from local advertisers. Like it or not, local ad revenue compromises coverage.

———- ooo ———-

We didn’t start this blog to “make money.” We did it initially as an experiment. Could we independently produce fresh content, both news and commentary, on a weekly basis, serving multiple roles as publisher, assignment editor, managing editor, reporter, investigator, and writer? The answer was “yes.” People ask how can one guy do all this? Simple: Relentlessness, hard work, and the largest collection of sources, spies, gumshoes, and Z-Agents placed in spaces and offices throughout the county.

We have never advertised this site. Our gamble? If we could provide content that was vital, lively, and entertaining, we would attract readers. Our simple formula worked, building THE PLANET into what it is today, the most circulated online forum for news and comment in the area.

Our success have proven to our satisfaction that CONTENT drives circulation. Provide material people feel they have to have, and you will get an audience.

———- ooo ———-

To safeguard the volume of traffic, we have had to greatly beef up our firewalls and security systems. Advertising revenue helps us do this, as we’ve poured the profits from the site back into the site.

Our “Army of Robots” not only blocks rogue entry from foreign IPs site-wide, it also monitors individual comments. Based on algorithms, security knows what to look for and it will assign comments to categories such as permit-publish, hold for auto-moderation, hold for human moderation, or trash. The categories are self-explanatory. Such a system, while effective and the best money can buy, isn’t perfect. No system is Don Larsen. The goal? Do the best you can with what you’ve got and press forward.

That’s what we do here. As we said, it’s our form of public service, one we give freely and offer without condition. We have been presented pay-only circulation models, where THE PLANET would charge a monthly or yearly fee for a subscription.

THAT WE WILL NEVER DO. THE PLANET’S PLEDGE IS TO REMAIN FREE OF CHARGE.

In closing, we keep this site up and running not for us but for you. THE PLANET, like all things, has a shelf life. It’s time will pass. That time is coming. It isn’t today, though, and that’s all we know … and all we need to know.

So HAVE YOUR SAY.

Keep it clean, on target, strong.  Take the high road. Leave the low one alone. We leave you with the words you will always find to close each column: LOVE TO ALL — words written and \meant to be taken literally. Spread it. It works.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

—————————————————————

“You won’t get it if you don’t ask. The corollary is also true” – Sir Donald Turpentine, Knight of the Bath.

“OPEN THE WINDOW, AUNT MILLIE.”

LOVE TO ALL.

Poland has created a new national holiday to celebrate a successful insurrection against German rule. The uprising took place in the wake of World War One, as Poland sought to re-establish itself as an independent state following over a century of partition between Germany, Russia and Austria.
The new “National Day of the Victorious Greater Poland Uprising” was signed into law by President Andrzej Duda yesterday and will take place annually on 27 December….sounds good.

Joe Biden is celebrating the 2021 Thanksgiving long holiday weekend in a billionaire’s compound in Nantucket Massachusetts. It is NOT billionaire Donald Trump’s compound, of course. Joe Biden recently turned 79 years old, and next year’s 2022 Thanksgiving, he will be the first U.S. President to serve as an 80-year-old. Nancy Pelosi is 81 years old in 2021. Our country is being led by near 80-year-old career politicians who are all fabulously wealthy and spend their holidays with billionaires. The Swamp is NOT at all representative of the people who live in the USA. Rather, it is like a dystopian futuristic story of elitist career politicians who have enriched themselves by selling out the proverbial Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski family for decades-on-end. I often wonder if the Swamp will ever change for the better, but I am not holding my breath for it to happen within our lifetime.

Are you saying there is no difference between the anti American Trump 77 year old and the 79 year old Biden.Trump told Pence to break the constitution,Trump told Georgia Sec of State to find illegally by threat 11,000 votes to win Georgia.Trump conspired to overthrow the United States Goverment….America has no understanding of right and wrong. This billionaire Trump a smooth liar to 73,000,000 is the most dangerous human being to the democratic World and you dont see the difference between the two

There is a huge difference between Biden and Trump. Trump is wealthy, but wants all Americans to be free to pursue their dreams. Biden wants to limit the freedoms of Americans by getting them dependent on government handouts and not encouraging them to strive any higher than that because they won’t be able to under the far left agenda. Trump’s agenda makes Americans have limitless possibilities while Biden’s agenda wants Americans to have “lowered expectations.” Less merchandise to buy, colder homes due to high heating prices, being forced on public transportation due to expensive gasoline…that’s Biden’s America.

The people that stormed the capitol were not representative of the majority of Republicans and others who support Trump. That’s the false narrative that the far left is spreading, but it’s a lie. The majority of Trump supporters are peaceful and support law enforcement. That’s why we want the police and not to get rid of them. The far left wants us to believe that the majority of their supporters are not like the people that burned and looted and murdered during the summer of 2020, so the same argument would apply to Trump supporters.

For the 10th year in a row, Christian Center is proudly advertising the fact that in conjunction with the sheriff’s department, they use slave labor to prepare the Thanksgiving meal.
I mean I know that’s all kinds of biblical but that doesn’t make it any less ugly.
I would suggest to the board of directors that they back away from this, and consider doing a gala to raise the funds to pay people to produce this meal.
I bet the culinary students at BCC would love to make that money.
Also, the sheriff’s department continues to hold people for about 10 hours after their sentence is done, sometimes in solitary, which has been declared a form of torture by human rights groups the world over.
How is BCHC planning on making these thousands of county residents who were denied their freedom in a timely manner over the years whole again?
How soon can we expect to see releases happen at 12:01 A.M. on the day a person is to be released?
What would Andrea Harrington do?

Huge kudos and thanks Dan for this site. While all of our bitching has not slowed down the malfeasance and dirty politics in Pittsfield one bit it has made many residents aware of the evils that we live with. We know who many of the dirt balls are and they know we know. We know who is taking advantage of us for their own profiteering and while we are helpless to stop it the exposure is helpful to some. Many have read the tea leaves as they are written here and have moved away to better more hopeful places. And for them you have given hope where none existed in Pittsfield. And you cannot put a price on that.

Happy Black (not sure if we can use the profit term anymore in this age of wokism) Friday to one and all. Hopefully everyone was able to enjoy good company and good food. I am also hoping(though doubting) the city leaders will wake up and start working for the citizens of Pittsfield. I hope they take down the Elm St debacle and use the pavement on all the potholes that litter the city. Or maybe lower the tax rate, make city government smaller and more responsive, out on the sidewalks talking to the people, not hiding with their select friends. By the way has anyone heard a peep from the COVID Cash Committee? Sorry for the rambling must be coming out of my food coma!

Happy Belated Thanksgiving! Hope yours was pleasant and relaxing.

Instead of Turkey, the Planet smells like Dan’s been threatened with libel. But then again there has been a lot of legal action in the town of Richmond already.

But I suppose the good and great that ‘float’ up up from the sewers of the Pitts or Lee and land in Richmond don’t like to be challenged. At all. Ever. Like Linda and her spending. Oh it is a done deal that her friends will be given money they don’t deserve and shouldn’t be getting.

Linda Tyer and her admin are the reason Biden can’t pass his spending bills as no one trusts the Dems will use the money for anything other than greasing their goombas. And that will be done without scrutiny or comment from the tax payer. Except for here, so thank you Dan for keeping them if not honest, on their toes.

Biden should make it a law that cities with mayors like we have do a mandatory forensic audit.
As of now there is ZERO oversight and no one with any power wants anything to do with one. But that does send a message does it not?
Get out if you can. How long will it take for all those Covid immigrants from New York and elsewhere to find out they have purcahsed property in a money sucking hole in the ground? Hopefully soon and hopefully some of them will run for office against the Petes and the cabal they enable.

I wonder about those Escape NYC families too. I wonder if they will be more vocal for the benefit of the schools and the larger community or will they be driven to servitude like the locals.
For a lot of the people who purchased property in this part of the world — it was their worst economic life decision bar none. I hope that doesn’t continue to be true going forward.

When these wealthy New Yorker’s moved to Pittsfield en masse they gave mayor Midas Tyer one more lame reason to justify raising taxes. And she jumped on it with both feet the first chance she got. She did not care who got hurt in the process as long as the special interest coffers were enlarged.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if some of these new residents, most of whom are better educated than much of Pittsfield’s residue, decided to run for mayor or the city council and ousted the current mayor and her puppet family? We can only hope. Can we start a recruitment page?

Now comes DA Andrea Harrington, tagging herself among the national Soros-funded Progressive DAs.Yet even Soros wouldn’t give a dime to an incompetent like her.
The Soros rogue prosecutors movement stems from the idea that the entire criminal justice system is racist. To even the score, these DAs promote pro-criminal policies and have a list of crimes they will not prosecute. This includes drugs distribution of all drugs including fentanyl and shoplifting the likes of which we have never witnessed until now. District attorneys swear an oath to enforce the laws as signed by the governor or under federal law. Furious citizens on the west coast have asked to recall several of these DAs. Others are getting re-elected based on the false idea that crime is down. Because of course it is since police are told arresting drug dealers and shoplifters will be useless because they will be tossed out.
Andrea Harrington slithered her way into this destructive club under a false narrative, a fake set of credentials and voter mandate that never existed. I hope someone puts a stop to it and soon.

Most of the ones that she hired came to their senses and left. Everyone there lives in fear. The good work of the previous administrations is threatened. Her pledge to work for victims is obviously a lie as we see in current cases. She works for herself, that’s it. Narcissist.

Dan, first I would like to thank you and commend you for creating and maintaining this site. If it weren’t for you us taxpayers would never ever hear or know the truth on so many issues going on in this Vibrant City. We most certainly can’t rely on the truth coming from the local newspaper media, Mayor or City Councilors. Thanks again!

The past week there has been an outside contractor in my neighborhood spray painting in bright orange a number on all the sewer curbing, if the curbing is broken or covered with weeds they spray paint the road (the orange paint nicely accents the potholes). A neighbor questioned one of the guys working and he stated that the City has a three year contract with his company to maintain the sewers!? Have a few questions. Will taxpayers ever hear what the cost of this contract is? Are the City Councilors aware of this contract? Did the contract go out to bid? But my main question is what exactly does Morales’s employees do except to ride around in brand new vehicles? If they don’t repair potholes, don’t paint lines, don’t replace knocked over or missing traffic and street signs, don’t clean up garbage in the streets, I guess their main job is ripping up streets and creating Morales bike lanes, bike lanes that screw up traffic, bike lanes that taxpayers had no voice in the installation. Morales states that road re-configurations are too slow down traffic! Why is the Pittsfield Police not working to slow down traffic? Why is a Traffic Division listed on the City website? The minimum speed limit lately in Pittsfield is 55 mph. Just think of the revenue the City could be taking in if speeders were cited. These citations could possibly put a big dent in the cost of a new police station. Hear the up and coming Morales’s mess will be Dalton Avenue, the Vibrant City’s way too slow down traffic!?

Hello Patrick Fennell,

The U.S. Stock Market dropped by around 3 percent today, black Friday, 26-November-2021. But don’t worry because the wealthy and powerful elites will always win. It is all a shell game for the elites. They move huge amounts of money around various Swamp and Wall Street computer screens to get what they want. The American People don’t count anymore. There are huge areas of the USA where there are no living wage jobs, failing public schools, rusted out infrastructure and factories, and so on. The elites give lip service to the underclass and shrinking working class at election time, but then they go home to their millionaires-only gated communities and vacation with multimillionaires and billionaires.

I read that the Swamp went on vacation this week, and then the Swamp will be in session for a few weeks before Christmas 2021, and then they will go on vacation again. Beacon Hill lawmakers are on a 7-week-long taxpayer-funded vacation until 5-January-2022. Boston left billions of dollars in state cash in limbo prior to their lengthy holiday season state legislative recess.

On Monday, 29-November-2021, the Ghislaine Maxwell federal trial in NYC will begin with opening arguments. If I were a would-be defense Attorney, I would ask who were the men the 14-year-old allegedly sex trafficked minor girls were made to perform sex acts on? I would ask about Bill Clinton’s 26 flight logs on Jeffrey Epstein’s private jet? I would ask why only the woman – Ghislaine Maxwell – is being charged when the federal prosecutors are saying that the uncharged men allegedly sexually exploited the minor women? Is not that the textbook definition of SEXISM?

In the spirit of the holiday season, I like it when the ruling elites are on vacation because at least we have a little peace of mind until after the New Year.

Best wishes,

When the looters steal a bunch of tools from Home Depot here in an organized mass theft as we are seeing elsewhere, and use them to do smash and grabs all over, what is Harrington going to do if the cops catch em?

Harrington has repeatedly pledged to “end the pervasive racial disparities that infect our system” and we repeatedly ask, where are those cases? No competent prosecutor would take a case to trial without some form of evidence but then Andrea Harrington is no competent prosecutor.

I wouldn’t worry about the Pittsfield kops catching anyone. They’re much too busy making up fake crimes and actually chasing the non existent fake crimes down. The Pittsfield kops can’t/won’t even find a crackwhore junkie actually responsible for an ongoing crimewave in Pittsfield, if you can believe that! An allegedly elusive crackwhore junkie many of the kops are well, if not intimately, acquainted with. As if she hasn’t been in the backseat of police cruisers. But the kops allegedly can’t find her. Maybe that’s were they should look for her next time they’re in the backseat of their cruisers.

While these things happen once in a blue moon, and happened here with a police lieutenant and a patrol officer back in the early 80’s or late 70’s, and happened recently here with another cop , unless you have some facts, please retract.

And here we are almost 20 hours later and City I Hate has posted no facts, just what we in the business call “naked assertions”, pun intended.

I saw the pair pop up in the back seat of a Pittsfield cruiser one night. They were parked in the field off Holmes Rd where the 4H building is now.

You may not be far off, Joe. When Chesa Boudin ran for district attorney in San Franscisco he said that prostitution, open drug use and drug dealing are “victimless crimes” and that poverty leads to shoplifting and this something he would not prosecute. Now we see an increase in crime in San Franscisco that is so out of control residents are paying for private security guards, taking self-defense classes, and supporting a recall of Boudin. The past week’s mob attacks on shopping centers has reached a level that can arguably be called organized crime. This shocking situation has been fed if not created by Andrea Harrington’s collegue Chesa Boudin.
Harrington regularly thrusts herself into national issues on social media. For example, “Feeling grateful for the jury returning guilty verdicts in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery.”
Now Harrington is on record on her twitter feed that Boudin is among her “colleagues from across the country who lift me up and inspire me to make good trouble.” If Harrington is inspired by this outrageous policy and resulting behavior and these district attorneys then voters in Berkshire County deserve an explanation.

We the taxpayers give $140.00 to a couple from NY city to start a brew pub in the Allagrone building. Why. Where is Wandering Stars money. He’s been brewing beer and paying taxes for 10 years. Now they will be competing with a subsides brewery. They should give the extra dollar charged to Wandering Star. He is not as connected and doesn’t care about politics, just wants to be treated fair.I personally will not give any city subsidized businesses my money. No Ace Hardware, no Hot Plate, no Bousquet . Just saying.

Agree, it will be a all inclusive establishment. At what cost. Wandering Star is also all inclusive. Actually has a no political conversion sign above the bar. Pittsfield greasy politics will never end. We must go back to a 2 year Mayoral vote. 4 Years is way to long to let the Mayor reap her nasty progressive fungus on us.

But surely Pittsfield and the taxpayers have reaped generous monetary benefits, and continue to be monetarily rewarded , for their investment of $18 and 1/2 million dollars pissed away on all these sure winners the schitty clowncilors assured the taxpayers that these saviors were, time and time again! Also the revolting schitty clowncilors would not have approved, yet another giveaway, if these two from NY has not bought, with their own money, not ours, at least a $420,000 home next door to the BIG DUMP persip or their own $750,000 mcmansion on Pheasant Way in the city of Pittsfield. Thus actually making a real investment in schittsfield by contributing to our ever increasing property tax bills. RIGHT!

In an unrelated story there were no known or provable kickbacks, cash or in kind, regarding any of these handouts to already wealthy business persons who did not at all need the mayoral gravy funded by taxpayers.
So if anyone was thinking that they need to cut it out right now.

Recently I attended a wedding of a close friend’s son in Pittsfield. Pretty much all of the out of town guests stayed at a downtown hotel, and it wasn’t HON. They came from Iowa, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Texas, Seattle and South Carolina. That same weekend there was a big hockey tournament at the Pittsfield Boy’s and Girl’s Club. Many of those people stayed at the same hotel. They were from all over New York and New England. Needless to say the bar at the hotel was packed Saturday night with people from both events. The one thing that stood out from all of the friendly conversation and interaction was that the out of towners couldn’t believe the “strange” and “confusing” traffic pattern on North St. The overwhelming outcome of said conversation was that it was “one of the dumbest things” that they have ever seen and “who thought that was a good idea”. All I could say was “welcome to Tyer Town, run by Linda and Barry from their gated community mansion, where crime runs rampant, the taxes are through the roof, the justice system is falling apart and home of the world’s most famous bike path”. Talk about Pittsfield proud. Thank you Linda, Barry, DA and all the buffoons better known as the city council.

Hello blogger Dan Valenti,

The letter, below, to the Dirty Bird (Berkshire Eagle) says that Pittsfield politics is doing nothing to help the city’s homeless population. I have an idea. Use the Lovely Linda and Barry Clairmont’s million-dollar home in Pittsfield’s gated community west of Berkshire Community College within feet of the Hancock border as a homeless shelter.

The November 23rd, 2021 Pittsfield City Council raised the municipal tax rate by the predictable 5% margin, as it has increased city and school district spending by 5% every year for decades on end as the city’s tax base always shrinks with population loss, the loss of thousands of living wage jobs over the past 50 years, attrition from the older generations going in the afterlife (if such a fairy tale actually exists), and Pittsfield’s huge underclass with Pittsfield being one of the most economically unequal metro areas in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the nation.

I have an idea on how to reduce Pittsfield politics’ always predictable tax and spending hikes. Sell of the Lovely Linda’s million-dollar home and property, sell the Lovely Linda’s Lexus luxury car, and donate the millions of dollars in savings she and her multimillion-dollar CPA husband Barry Clairmont hold and use it all to lower municipal taxes and spending in Pittsfield.

If Pittsfield needs even more money to help the proverbial Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski family, withdraw the many millions of dollars in Matt Kerwood’s Slush Funds and return the funds to all of the proverbial Kapanskis who have been systemically screwed over again and again over the decades by Pittsfield politics.

Pittsfield politics could use some of the Lovely Linda’s tens of millions of dollars in Biden Bucks to help the city’s homeless population. But we will never know because the Lovely Linda has (possibly illegally) shut out the public from how she will spend her Biden Bucks funds. To Hell with the state’s Open Meeting Law and the state’s Ethics Laws! The Lovely Linda is the wealthy and powerful Queen of Pittsfield politics and royalty doesn’t have to comply with the law or serve the people who must never question their administration.

Best wishes,

Jonathan A. Melle

Letter: “Homeless need help in Pittsfield”
The Berkshire Eagle, November 27, 2021

To the editor: I read in The Berkshire Eagle a summary of the Pittsfield City Council meeting which took place Nov. 23, and again no mention of what is being done to help the homeless.

Another winter with not enough shelters for the needy people. Please do something to help the homeless in Pittsfield.
