WE WEEP FOR THAT WHICH WAS OUR DELIGHT

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY
(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY APRIL 10, 2023) — This is what we have become, THE PLANET is grieved to say.
- You’re a father.
- You live in Readsboro, VT.
- You’re driving your 2015 Subaru Crosscheck in Clarksburg, MA a few miles away.
- It’s almost 2 in the morning.
- You’re “under the influence” (booze? drugs?).
- You have your 2-year-old in the car with you (in his child seat? Don’t know).
- You crash the vehicle.
- You panic.
- You grab the toddler and, on foot, run away.
- Somehow, you lose the baby Hudson Brook.
- The rushing waters fill the lungs of a life of innocence just yet begun.
- The baby drowns. (All according to police reports)
- DEEP BREATH, PLANET. DEEP BREATH.
———- ooo ———-
How?
How does this happen?
Why was Darel A. Galorenzo, 35, out at that hour, in that state? Where was he going to or coming from, for we know: At that time on a Saturday night, many things happen, few of them good.
Police say he lost his son in a brook while running away from a vehicle crash. The baby drowns.
He lost his son.
In a brook.
Fleeing the scene of a crash.
The baby drowns.
Keep repeating it, PLANET, so that it might sink in, because at first a story like this is so outrageous, so infuriating, that it beads up and rolls off.
Let the fullness of this evil etch a portrait not just of a desperate and panicked man, and not even just the unadulterated horror of a never-to-be-future snuffed out in an icy flash, but of a society and culture heedless of life’s preciousness.
A Culture of Death
Galorenzo’s alleged condition represents an aspect of the Culture of Death that has America choking on itself, a swollen, purple throat that cannot take proper nourishment. It’s an aspect little talked about, seen in countless ways: addiction, stress, poverty, sloth, hate, entitlement, gangs, guns, drugs, trash, graffiti, piercing, cutting, the “ists” and “isms,” war, corruption, and so much more.
The bystanders, those of us left learning of this news, stand helplessly on that haunted brook bank, stunned. We mourn for the baby, whose death becomes a mirror into our own souls. In moments like this, we run from the dragon that guards our treasures. We reach out and feel nothing. We look ahead and see that it is dark.
So understandable … but … Somehow we must find the light and if it not there, we must create it. Otherwise, we are doomed.
———- ooo ———-
You probably know the outline of the facts.
State troopers from the Chesire barracks arrived at the crash on Middle Road in Clarksburg just after 2 a.m. Saturday. Within minutes, medical personnel were on the scene. Fire fighters joined them and with troopers frantically searched the brook for the baby. They found the toddler, took him out of the water, and EMTs began emergency first-aid for drowning injuries.
An ambulance rushed the baby to Berkshire Medical Center in North Adams, where he was pronounced dead.
The responders who found the baby in the water … the EMT who try to bring life back … what did they do when they got home after such an experience?
Did they pace? Did they drink or get high to cope? Did they talk to anyone? Did they sleep? Were they able to erase the image? Will they eat breakfast this morning?
———- ooo ———-
Galorenzo was arrested and charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment of a child, negligent operating of a motor vehicle, and operating under the influlence. He didn’t make the $100,000 bail. As of press time, he remains in custody at the Cheshire barracks.
The office of Berkshire County District Attorney Tim Shugrue said “additional charges related to the toddler’s death are anticipated.” The investigation in the circumstances surrounding this tragedy remain under investigation jointly by Shugrue’s office and the state police.
What goes through a man’s mind who has just done this to his toddler son — and to himself? What trudges through his mind?
From Kahil Gibran: “When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”

I weep for him.
Your story of this latest preventable tragedy puts our own struggles in life in perspective. We should all see life as precious. We should stop glorifying money, drugs and alcohol, marijuana and tobacco, power, sex, violence, war, and so on. We should support public advocacy groups who support policies and programs that invest in people and communities. When will we ever learn from our past mistakes? Children always bear the brunt of the adults’ selfishness in society. Homelessness, hunger, illiteracy, illness, and the like are borne by the most vulnerable members of society: young children! Whatever happened to being a good person who cares about others in our otherwise cruel world?
Let’s not blame this on a panic disorder.
Premeditated murder.
We can’t fry the SOB in VT or MA
I know everyone will say fry him, but the fact is Life imprisonment for killing your only son will be a worse punishment than most men can endure. Ask Chris Watts.
Before the fry or the imprisonment, let’s get the facts first. If there are mitigating circumstances, these need to be revealed. If not, many questions need answering. Too soon for judgment except with this footnote.
Still many unanswered questions about this incident which happened 2 1/2 days ago…..
What was the child’s name?
Where is the child’s mother?
Why were the father & child out at 2 am?
Immigration status of father?
Where were the father & son right before the crash? Who were they visiting?
Toxicology report?
I am still reeling from the massacre of 3 children and 3 adults at a Christian school in Nashville by a mentally ill transgender person.
”A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another, as I have loved you,”
Words from Jesus in John 13:34
I think the most important question you asked is his immigration status. I want to know if he was one of those damned Canadians. If yes, fry him!
In case you are unaware Mr. W, child trafficking due to the open borders is rampant. Again, where is his mother?
Apparently you support illegal immigration which is a criminal act according to current immigration law. And it may be that Mr. Galorenzo is a legal citizen. Facts are still pending.
I don’t know how you can deduce any of that from my post.
This could be a lot of underlying. Maybe he has custody of the poor kid and getting money from the government. Maybe he knew he did wrong dui ing? Most of all he put the child in harms way and there is zero forgiveness for that. You have to prove intent and stupidity certainly applies here. Whether sober or not he will be held accountable. Ten years should be sufficient.Minimum.
Over a thousand of the children Trump had separated from their parents with his tough immigration reign are still lost. Mostly girls. One rumor is that they were headed to Jeffrey Epsteins harem compliments of our then government.
If you crash a vehicle dwi, with a child. No other detail matters.
The drowning… ‐‐‐‐-‐, ya, no words.
If a sober person ….. 0
Ya, there’s just no solution
Game Over. do not add a .25c
It doesn’t make sense nonsense
I agree EYE. Game over.
Was the transgender woman at the Nashville school really suffering from mental illness or was she taking massive amounts of testosterone which would make her more aggressive. Pictures of her that seem recent show that she is beginning to look more male than female. She could be mentally ill too though and the testosterone would make everything worse. Lots of mentally ill young people are being diagnosed as transgender when that isn’t really their issue, but lots of people want to get rich off of convincing them that they are in the wrong gender.
Exactly.
Both, crazy in the first place thinking she could change her sex and taking hormones and god knows what other drugs didn’t make things any better.
Also crazy is trying to keep up with pronouns used for gender ID.
Can you imagine the late Red Sox P.A. Announcer Sherm Feller welcoming fans to Fenway Park:
“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls and you, he, she, it, we, they, me, him, her, us and them. Welcome to Fenway Park.”
Children are the victims of those who carry guns at 10am on a Tuesday who’s only sin is that adults allow crazy and had them the weapons of hate and anger. Those 1st responders to a classroom of shredded 10 year olds numbering as high as 25….evil is in our cities and in our schools. Tennessee is holding their ground on ignorance and fathead thinking for the NRA
Have you ever read a publication of the NRA or a position paper published by them? Or do you just listen to the buffoons on the View? Have another Bud Light.
He prefers Chicalobe Light
Apparently, no one wants to touch this horrible tragedy, not even with a 10-foot pole. None of us can say what was in this father’s heart when he made his tragic ill-fated decision that resulted in the death of his own precious 2-year-old child. Whatever it was it, he is going to have to answer to a higher authority for that sin.
I hadn’t planned on a trip down memory lane. But I grew up, and survived, a time when drunk/dysfunctional parent[s] got away with all kinds of shit, including beating the shit out their own kids with leather belts and the cord from the electric coffee pot. But Dinner was always served at 5 pm every day, the refrigerator was always full, the suburban family home that I grew up in was always clean, you went to confession every Saturday, even if you had to made up a sin or two, and church on every Sunday, where ALL your childhood transgressions/sins, including the ones you made up were forgiven, so you could receive communion at Sunday Mass, were forgiven. And you went to catechism every week, that only made you afraid that may might actually commit some horrible unforgiveable sin which would send you straight to HELL. And there were boy’s scouts/girl’s scouts, and there were always backyard barbecues, and blueberry picking, and picnics at the lake, and Springside Park, with dragonflies and damselflies, and summer camp, and 4th of July parades, with sparklers and cherry bombs, that didn’t blow off a finger or two, and 4-H fairs, and Flipper, and the Wonderful World of Disney on Sundays, with a big bowl of popcorn, and to the best of my knowledge, not a single dysfunctional abusive parent actually killed their own kids by driving the family car off a cliff.
With that said, I ‘m also never going to forget the day a husband shot and killed his wife, the mother of his own five children, thus leaving them motherless, and fatherless. While that SHITSHOW didn’t personally affect me, I’ll also never get to forget it. So, I guess on some level, it became part of my life. I hope the grown children of that tragedy are all well today. What I’m trying to say is that tragedy affects all of us to some extent. And I’ve left out tons of childhood traumas, none of which included the death of 10-mouth-old Baby Kristoff or 11-year-old Hannah.
Excellent post and well expressed, CITY.
Don’t forget the child molesters running some of those outstanding organizations. Nothing like confession followed by a good old fashioned molestation.
Humanity is connected in that way, you feel it, profound.
Ya and it really doesn’t make you feel better about yourself either, no matter how outstanding you are, you didn’t save him.
I meant third person I, not you.
And somehow, I think most of these abusive drunk dysfunctional parents would have jumped in front of a train for your own kids, and someone elses.
That ain’t what happened here.
He jumped from the train.
John Krol talks about Pittsfield politics:
Former Pittsfield city council vice president John Krol hopes “to reignite that passion in the city” with mayoral run | WAMC
Interesting. Marchetti says he is going to continue with the awesome way he and Tyer and White have been doing things. I think the Marchetti s campaign methodology is going to be to demoralize the population and then at the last minute offer to go up on taxes only five percent instead of 5.5 percent to win them over. He is smarter than he looks.
(no, he is not) (definitely not)
Imagine these two being mayor. One looks tired already and the other had to be waken up out of a deep sleep during a city council meeting. I wouldn’t follow either.
I was 4 I think when my mother sent me barreling down Welcome Street Great Barrington toward the Housatonic, alone in an unmanned station wagon.
The vehicle crashed through someone’s home, sparing me I suppose.
She lied telling me I was with Uncle Ray that day delivering eggs.
She has been trying to kill me ever since though.
What kind of an idiot Parks on Welcome Street any dayum way!
FF to 2015, she stole my identity so I answered for her criminal charges until 2019 when Judge Tyne dismissed ….. pretty sure that tears it. Unconditional love might be a stretch,
Mom, Wow!
.25c that is equity, worthless life.
Wish mom had put me in a barrell. Sounds like fun
PRODIGAL SON HBO MAX

Bird e-scooters: welcome transportation option in the city of Pittsfield
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (April 10, 2023) – With Spring comes Birds! The City of Pittsfield and Bird, a leader in environmentally friendly micro-electric transportation, have teamed up again to bring shared e-scooters back to the city starting today, Monday, April 10th.
Bird is a leading micro-mobility company that aims to make cities more livable by reducing car trips, traffic congestion and carbon emissions, all of which contribute to over a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. The company’s scooters provide a safe, eco-friendly way to get around, shop local and offer residents without cars or with limited access to public transit a reliable, convenient transportation option.
Bird launched a pilot program with Pittsfield last spring that was a resounding success. Residents of and visitors to Pittsfield completed over 25,000 rides on Bird Scooters in 2022 enjoying an affordable, eco-friendly alternative to cars that allowed residents to get around efficiently and encouraged visitors to explore all the city has to offer. Along with transit benefits, Bird Scooters have also been shown to increase the amount of spending in a city and spurred significant foot traffic and economic activity for Pittsfield area businesses.
“After a successful first launch of e-scooters in Pittsfield, I am excited to welcome back Bird for 2023. Pittsfield continues to lead the way as a municipality in providing alternative forms of transportation to residents and visitors,” said Mayor Linda Tyer.
“It is essential that we prioritize sustainable transportation solutions in our city. By welcoming Bird back to Pittsfield, we are actively promoting a cleaner and greener city. When we choose to ride a scooter instead of using a personal vehicle for short trips, we reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more environmentally friendly community,” said Ricardo Morales, Commissioner of Public Services and Utilities for the City of Pittsfield.
“We applaud the city of Pittsfield for leading the Commonwealth in welcoming convenient, sustainable and affordable transportation options to residents and visitors,” said Lauren Scribi, Senior Manager of Government Partnerships at Bird. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with city leaders to provide our industry-leading e-scooters during the 2023 season.”
Bird is proud to offer a number of features and benefits that make Bird scooters accessible to all riders, including its Community Pricing Program, where low-income riders, veterans, and senior citizens receive a 50% discount as well as select local nonprofits and community organizations. Those who qualify can sign up by downloading the Bird app, creating an account, and emailing proof of eligibility to access@bird.co.
The City of Pittsfield shares the following reminders when riding e-scooters: • only one person per scooter
• utilize the designated bike lanes where available
• no riding on the sidewalks
• follow the rules of the road • wear a helmet
• park the scooter adequately
Thoughts or questions concerning Bird scooters? Please send them to Pittsfield311@bird.co and a member of the Bird team will follow up.
