PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

Pittsfield Mayoral Candidates Discuss Issues in Planet Valenti Debate

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION JUNE 16-8, 2023) — Now that the jacks have all gone back to their boxes (nod to Jimi) and Kalinowski is running for mayor, THE PLANET’s Right Honorable Good Friends on the city council, having done their duty by approving the FY24 $205 million budget, as a body and as individuals have come into definitive focus.

Every such deliberative body needs time to develop and reveal its identity. It’s like that with all teams. The fun thing is that we can now nail each of the Chosen Eleven with the briefest badges, three words or less, to wit:

WARDS

Ken Warren: “What, Me Worry?”

Charles Kronick: “Black Flag”

Kevin Sherman: “Wayback Machine”

Jim Conant: “Sominex”

Patrick Kavey: “Spelunker.”

Dina Lampiasi: “derkronickfrenzii

Tony Maffuccio: “Not There”

AT-LARGE

Peter Marchetti: “Hizzoner”

Peter White: “Wet Fart”

Earl Persip: “Dumpster”

Karen Kalinowski: “Deliverance”

That’s 17 words for 11 councilors.

Yeah, we nailed it.

———- ooo ———-

DIE UPDATE: ‘I Don’t Have Time to Do This’

Late Thursday morning, having heard nothing from DIE director Michael Obasohan about our invitation to a filmed interview, we called. Obie picked up the transfer. He confirmed he received THE PLANET‘s invitation. Is he going to do it? He said he was “considering it,” adding that he’s so busy “I don’t have time to do this.”

Perhaps … but he did have time for fluff and marshmallows by appearing on WTBR’s Morning Drive (zzzzzzzz) There, he faced a barrage of fawning that made “sucking up” seem like “blowing out.”

It makes a great riddle: “When is a vacuum cleaner like a leaf blower? Answer: When it’s WTBR’s Morning Drive.”

Some world travelers will do anything for free theater tickets!

The good news is that Obasohan said he was preparing a write-up for THE PLANET that outlines his goals this year and “community engagement.” We said we looked forward to receiving it. Of course, a prepared document is nothing like answering live questions that come fast and hard.

More good news is that he agreed to sit down with THE PLANET over coffee sometime the week of July 17. We have every hope that will lead to a sit-down in front of the camera.

THE PLANET respects Obie for taking our call, but we should not have to “thank” a public official for fulfilling an obligation by talking to the press. That’s what it’s come to in Picklefield. Usually, they are “in a meeting,” “in conference,” or “in Boston.” Even when our spies spot them in the office. Guess bilocation is the new thing.

Padre Pio was on to something.

———- ooo ———-

PLANET to Pete White

In iBerkshires, Brittany Polito quoted council VP Pete White saying: “I think anyone who needs to question the value of this department needs to go listen to Director [Michael Obasohan]’s last appearance on [WTBR’s Morning Drive] where Director Obasohan hammered it home why we need this.

“How much it means to the future of Pittsfield. How much it means to people who see Director Obasohan go into schools and other places knowing that the city cares about diversity, equity and inclusion enough that we do invest in it, enough that we do want to help our employees understand why it needs to be invested in.”

WHITE: “Anyone who needs to question the value of this department needs to go listen to Director [Michael Obasohan]’s last appearance on [WTBR’s Morning Drive].

PLANET TO PETE: We did that one better. We invited the director to sit for an interview on our YouTube channel, PLANET VALENTI VIDEO, so we could listen and learn first hand.

It would be far more educational if the director meets with pushback questions that actually test his ability to articulate the value of his office and justify (a) use of taxpayer money spent to keep it alive, (b) his $96,000 salary, and (c) his $8,000 raise.

He could “hammer it home” on a venue that takes marshmallows and roasts them on the hot seat.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

WAMC is on a roll this week. Josh Landes wrote that Karen Kalinowsky finished in last place with only 281 votes out of more than 6,000 cast in the preliminary mayoral election in 2019…. [Jon Melle’s notes: …. that Mayor Linda Tyer was, of course, also in that year, but her third husband, the multimillionaire CPA, Barry Clairmont is suing Melissa Mazzeo over a little less than 4 years later due to Melissa Mazzeo’s free speech accusations against him during the 2019 general mayoral election that Barry Clairmont’s second wife, Mayor Linda Tyer, won].

After falling short in 2019, Kalinowsky to run for mayor of Pittsfield again | WAMC

WAMC’s Josh Landes described Ward 2 City Councilor Charles Ivar Kronick as often finding himself at the “center of controversy” in Pittsfield politics over the first two years.

Social worker Soncere Williams makes Pittsfield political debut in bid for Ward 2 city council seat | WAMC

As for “DIE director” Michael Obasohan’s $8,000 pay raise that will put his yearly city public pay at $96,000 plus public perks, the over $205.6 million fy2024 city budget gave large public pay raises across the board for all of the city government’s bureaucratic managerial positions.

The real issue in Pittsfield politics is that the local elected officials are charging taxpayers top dollar in return for rock bottom results. To illustrate, it would be like me running a bait-and-switch sales scheme whereby I charge the fictional Mary Joe and Joe Kapanski full price for Barry Clairmont and Linda Tyer’s mansion and two Lexus luxury cars in their elitist Gated Community, but in return I really sold the fictional Kapanskis a room for a night at the downtown Pittsfield YMCA after I took them for a “free cash” ride to Silver Lake.

To be clear, Pittsfield politics is A BIG SCAM ran by one political (Democratic) Party insider corrupt career politicians and their highly paid managerial bureaucrats!

Thank you, Charles Ivar Kronick, for being “the center of controversy” and getting a lot done in Pittsfield politics. After reading the posts about the “DIE” office you unsuccessfully opposed, I ask you and others:

“Why is it O.K. for Mayor Linda Tyer’s 3rd husband, the multimillionaire CPA Barry Clairmont, to sue a woman politician and community activist named Melissa Mazzeo for exercising her right to making Free Speech accusations against him in the 2019 election that his second wife, Mayor Linda Tyer, won, but Pittsfield’s city government is paying over 6-figures per fiscal year for the new DEI Office to publicly advocate for women and minorities in Pittsfield from being treated illegally and/or unfairly?”

Pete White has discovered a new passion in life – drinking. Guzzle guzzle gulp gulp.

Every third Facebook post is now a shout out to a beer, a bar or a metal show.

And I know he thinks he’s doing the business community a favor by constantly posting sandwiches and bagels from local restaurants but really, it just attests to his awful eating and spending habits.

How about doing the community a real favor by actually doing some meaningful work that spurs business development. Where are the posts about bringing new business to Picklefield? Where are the posts about job creation or new construction?

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is nothing else but Dem/Liberal progressive totalitarian ideology and beliefs illegally enforced upon all employees of city of Pittsfield.
DEI violates Free Speech and Freedom of Religion and Beliefs.
I do not believe in Diversity, Equity and LGBTQ Inclusion.
Can I apply for City job having my such beliefs?
Can I maintain a City job if I openly state about my disbelief in DEI?
Michael Obasohan and Michael Tyler would fire anybody immediately for saying so!
But that is a sever violation of the United States Constitution which guarantees
Free Speech and Freedom of Religion and Believes!
I don’t have to reveal my believes in order to work.
I don’t have to listen Democratic Party Propaganda as mandatory “training”.
I believe in God Almighty. I believe in 10 Commandments.
I do believe in Old Testimony and Chapter about Sodom and Gomorra.
I do believe in Science which teaches Male and Female biology and physiology.
All men have XY DNA chromosomes.
All women have XX DNA chromosomes.
People are unable to change their sex as it is impossible to change existing DNA code, regardless any hormonal “therapy”, drinks or drugs.
Of course after smoking marijuana and some Colombian crack cocaine some people indeed need mental health as they dream to become opposite sex or traveling back in time to Andromeda Galaxy.
But I have No obligation to swallow their beliefs–sorry.
Transgender miracles is a Lie.
Everybody know that but afraid to say so.
What kind of country we became if people are forced to covert to hostile FAKE ideology or lose their job?
Check America First Legal who filed more than 75 lawsuits in Federal Courts and already won many! I make donations to them monthly, so should you!

AFL won Federal Lawsuit against Joe Biden for funding Black Farmers!
All Farmers are Equal! So, Federal Money cannot be granted to one race!
Victory!
Mayor Linda Tyer’s $700,000 funding to recently created Berkshire Black Economic Development is 100% against Federal and State Laws and Constitutions!
She simply thinks nobody has guts to fight that in Court.
DEI is a spit in the face of Mayflower and Pilgrims, Lutherans and Conservative Jews and Muslims.

Looking at this list it is amazing that anyone would want to run to join the group! I think everyone can find better things to do and better people to associate with then with these clowns. Would love to know the reason that the city government did not insist on closing at least one school! They could also sell the administration building of the schools to Mill Town to create low income housing in he vibrant Tyler St area. Or to stop paying $500,000.00 a year for office space that hasn’t been used since COVID. Why haven’t these clowns called to task the ARPA robbers and why they didn’t use the money on the money pit at the end of Holmes Road? On top of that I do unfortunately feel the DIE department is racist and that the city’s policies have turned racist in nature. It was an atrocity what the English put in place in America before the country was able to break free from their grasp and it was unfortunate that it took 60 years for the new country to rid itself from slavery but it did all end in 1865….almost 200 years ago. I believe it is time to just treat each other with respect to the quality one possesses in their soul and actions.

Left out of the equation was rental unit profits. My guess is that, not all, but many mega unit owners are raking it in hand over fist. But why tell the whole story when you can deflect from reality? In Pittsfield that subject comes under the “special interest blanket” and such information is pretty much closeted and unavailable to public eyes.

Covid has become the cover goat for huge corporate profits.

You view it as patronizing, when you would not view it that way if it were in favor of Italian-Americans at the beginning of the last century. It backfires in your eyes because you reject the premise not because it doesn’t work.

Learn history only 80 years was slavery legal and then it was finally overthrown. It was a practice started in Africa and brought to America by the English. It took the colonies over 100 years to overthrow the monarchy and unfortunately longer to get rid of their system of slavery. Affirmative action was a system to help raise up the black community because they were unable to do it themselves. Now it is time to take off the training wheels and treat all as equals

I don’t anymore. Now I think it really is a joke and political woke cover.

I would like to think, to give him the benefit of the doubt, that it was not his decision to avoid you Dan, but rather a threat from above. Given the stink of this administration it is possible that his job was threatened if he did your interview and was unable to defend the indefensible. You know who the DEI office and mission is important to? White people. I’d bet 85% of Picklefield’s black population has no idea what DEI stands for, either as an acronym or a mission.

Don’t get me wrong- there’s nothing wrong with Obasohan’s willingness to accept $100,000 per year for a do-nothing position. I applaud the man. The joke’s on the city, not him.

The only other real announcement that was this bad locally to run for office was Robert Sullivan for D.A if you recall it was at Park square in 30mph winds 20 degrees next to a non-working fountain. Reading your post it is obvious your Mother failed in teaching you not to disrespect women. Your cheap attempt at humor fell flat. Her name is Karen Kalinowski and if you happen to pay taxes in Pittsfield she should have earned your respect. After watching many meetings she has earned mine. Reading some of your previous texts I venture to guess you feed out of the tax payer trough. The last thing tax paying residents of Pittsfield need is Marchetti or Krol in the mayors seat. Marchetti has rubber stamped 100% of the Mayors increases. Krol is from the same cloth. This town needs Governmental change, not business as usual. I think a Town Manager should be considered. Their is no need to spend half a million dollars a year on a 9-2 or 8-3 Rubber Stamping Council. Forget about the low blows and let her run a campaign. Karen K you have my vote just on the effort + hard work I have seen you put in for the citizens of Pittsfield.

Even though KK has no chance to win, I’ll be rooting for her. Maybe she can expose some of the fraud going on in the city. If not, hopefully during a debate, she’ll turn up the heat and make it a little uncomfortable for Marchetti and Krol.

MA,
I hope she is able to bring out the true difference’s between the other two candidates who are tiptoeing around questions with pretty much both giving the same basic talking point campaign type answers. She can change this with going more in-depth on questions and answers asked of her during debates where they will have to respond.

Willing to fight for budget reductions. What’s not to love? You people have been hoping for a third candidate – well now you have her! Get behind her!

I just think as MelMaz found out, the deck will be stacked in Marchetti’s favor.

I’m sure Dirty Barry Clairmont, aka-Mr. Worldwide, will find his way into city hall again to get a running tally of voters/votes, just like last time.

He’ll come up with another horsesh!t excuse, like, I can only buy Zig-Zag candy bars out of the CH vending machine. I can’t find them anywhere else.

and she may not get much help from connected biased media. (they know who they are and will now need to spin up a storm of bullshit) They were not planning on having to do this.

But a message of truth may very well trump all that special interest money. The people of Pittsfield have been pounded into apathy because of a feeling of helplessness regarding their government. We are apathetic but not stupid. People need to talk to one another and pass the message that there is hope on the horizon. Tell your family and friends on social media that there is now a candidate who gives hope to Pittsfield.

No one person can straighten out the complete horrendous mess the City of Pittsfield is in currently, but I do believe that Karen K. has the capability to give Pittsfield a start of a come back. Much more so than Pee Pee Petie of Pretty Boy Krol. In watching the City Council meetings I have been impressed how Karen can drill many of Tyer’s department heads to get the truth out of their departments, something Tyer has never done! Karen does not back down and keeps asking questions until she gets an answer. I watched as she has had Bike Lake Ricky Rumpus and BowTie Kerwood shaking and sweating fumbling every lying word out of their mouths because she was asking legitimate questions about their departments. During one of the budget meetings she even has her old boss Mikey Wynn at a loss of how many vehicles the PPD has? I also give her a lot of credit for hanging on when many of her co- councilors blindsided her regarding the chance for taxpayers to vote on the bike lanes. What was done to her was crooked as crooked comes. She did not throw in the towel like a couple of the current councilors and decide not to run again, she feels she can still attempt to help the hard working taxpayers of Pittsfield.

Bottom line, she has more balls to fight for taxpayers that Pee Pee and Pretty Boy combined! Go Karen and Good Luck, you have my vote.

The elderly dont have disposable income. Most are living on little ssi and povery level pensions. They don’t receive 50- 100 thousand a year like school retirees and public employees. Again. The City Council whiffed over why we have to pay rates and could give a crap how, but WHY is it short?
