Is Karen Kalinowsky is running for mayor not to win the office but to flip off Peter Marchetti, what a source labeled “her revenge tour.”
Kal-El is a councilor-at-large — and mayoral candidate.
Marchetti is council president — and mayoral candidate.
Apparently, she blames Marchetti for her failure as a councilor.
The blame game? And she wants to be mayor??

Making a legitimate bid for public office requires manpower, mission, and money. Candidates John Krol and Marchetti have all three. They, therefore, have gravitas and must be taken seriously.
Most every election also draws token candidacies, people who take out papers and sometimes gather enough signatures make the ballot. For them, it’s not the ballot but the “ballet” that matters. They know they can’t win but have their reasons for dabbling.
With papers due the clerk by July 28, the definitive candidates’ list remains to be seen. For the sake of argument, let’s assume Kalinowsky qualifies.
Who is she?
THE PLANET has spoken to several people who have known her professionally. Sources spoke on condition of anonymity.

A member of the Pittsfield Police Department says Kalinowsky was the kind of cop “that gives cops a bad name. [She was] lazy, wouldn’t follow procedure, and cut corners.” A former Reid staffer, where Kal-El spent 17 years as resource officer, said Kalinowsky made the bullying worse: “When we called her on it, she blamed us, the administrators and teachers. [She] just went through the motions.”
Source “Karen is running to get back at Peter [Marchetti]. It’s her ‘revenge tour.’ She thinks Peter has f****** with her in meetings. She’s right … look at the bike-lane deal. That was all Marchetti.”
Yes, look at it.
For one thing, we have what looks like a recurring theme, Kalinowsky’s tendency to blame others for her failures. Having won a 5-4 approval to put her petition on the North Street bike lanes on the ballot, for which THE PLANET gave her prose-poems of rapturous credit, she allowed colleagues to outsmart her by changing the petition’s language. Kalinowsky didn’t know what hit her.
She can’t play on this council, and she wants to be mayor?
Don’t think so.
That would be like putting the kid banjo player in Deliverance in the corner office.

Others have said she’s running to pad her pension. As a retired cop with 32 years, she gets 80% of her top three salaries. That would put her annual kiss somewhere between $70,000 and $80,000 (rough estimate) — $6,300 a month/$1,600 a week. She gets another at least $8Gs for being on the council. Her two years there gives her 34 years service. A term as mayor would boost that to 38 years.
THE PLANET doesn’t buy it simply because she has no realistic chance of becoming mayor. Our theory is that she’s had enough of being a councilor and is “running for mayor” to bow out without losing face. Her petulance suggests that she’s too fragile to handle the hot seat.
This exit strategy would also give her a twofer: (1) Besides quitting the council, (2) the chance to annoy Marchetti. Naturally, that too is doomed to embarrassing failure. As a mayoral candidate this time around, Marchetti is coming into his own. Pete will see this and send Kalinowski back to the backwoods.

- State Office of Campaign Finance records show no campaign account for Kalinowsky. Marchetti has one. Krol has one.
- She’s not raising money.
- She has no campaign web site.

In short, she’s a fat, mayoral nothing.

Be any of that as it may what does anyone think Marchetti or Krol will do for the city? Are we better off after 8 years of Tyer? What will the empty suit twins do for Pittsfield ? Just 4 to 8 years of woke waste.

This is what I feared. The candidates are so similar that we now have to vote based on how attractive they are and their personality because, policy wise, there is no difference between them, especially between Marchetti and Kroll. It’s now one giant mind meld in the Democrat party. They speak all the same slogans and believe all the same things. They are all Wokesters and I thought the idea was to get away from the Woke philosophy here in Berkshire County because we see that it is crazy. Karen offered some hope, but she needs to run a regular campaign and get her ideas out there if she is serious.
Why does she need to run a regular campaign? Regular campaigns, by their very nature, are merely lies, blather, arm waving and false promises. The goal is to say ANYTHING to get elected. They are directed at the naive voter, who will do no homework of his or her own and cannot separate fact from fiction. And this is why and how special interests take control of a city.
I will be voting for a real person who does not feel the need to blow smoke up my ass in order to get my vote. Both Krol and Marchetti will be using both that smoke along with mirrors to fool people into voting for them. And if it works the city is more screwed than it is already.

Thanks. Actually, back in the day, we talked to a bunch of her former coworkers at Lenox High School. Most has good things to say. She was generally well-liked. A good worker. As for KK, she found the perfect landing spot: the council. She’s not “one of them,” but she’s also not anything else. At-large relieves her of actual ward work but gives her a citywide position. What has she done with it? Nothing. Ask Sir Chaz. In the backrooms, when push comes to shove, Kalinowski-El gets deer in the headlights. Her votes are “safe” — when with the Establishment, ignored. When against, done in safety when she’s assured a measure won’t pass. And on her one moment in the sun, the bike lane thang, she got faked out of her shoes in a masterful bit of political chicanery by Warren-Marchetti-Persip-City-Solicitor team. She should have seen it coming a mile away when Warren telegraphed his punch on the language. Instead, she failed to grasp what was going on. As mayor, the council would run her more dizzy that she currently is, and that’s saying a lot. THE PLANET’s main problem doesn’t concern us but The Kapanskis. Appalachian Kal, in claiming to run for mayor, OWES it not to THE PLANET but to citizens to clarify her positions. When given a gracious and professional invitation, she froze. I agree. Her refusal to meet with me doesn’t necessarily reflect on competence. Her actions as a councilor and as a cop DO, however. Her refusal to meet privately, off the record, where we are both free to say what we want, does tell me she bears a grudge, for whatever reason. Any reasonable person, anyone with intelligence, anyone who’s not ruled by emotions and/or ignorance would at least agree to meet. I have never refused anyone, friend or foe and foe especially, who wanted to meet, even if it was to “Tell you what.”

I told the council last night that the clean water act has been changed. The standards for effluent into the Housatonic are now less stringent. I told them that the city’s consultants should be held to the previous clean water act standards especially considering we paid them 74 million to do just that. The sewer plant at present can’t meet thee phosphorous standard of the first clean water act but with the new standard they can. It is imperative that we hold them to the previous standard. As we paid dearly for them to do that. Mayor and council take note of this potential shenanigans

Peter Marchetti could write that the city’s double digit fee hikes are “small” compared to previous years. John Krol could write that he will magically revitalize North Street’s 15 empty storefronts. Karen Kalinowsky could write that while she earned her living at the city’s public trough as a Pittsfield Police Officer, she wants to lower the costs of future city budgets. Craig Gaetani could write that he alone could fight and defeat the armies of China and Russia combined in a would-be WW3.

Maybe Karen agreed to be on Mike Daly’s show because he is respectful to her, something Dan has not been. Dan can’t even write a whole article without mis-spelling her name. We finally get a nice cool night in Pittsfield and you run to open your windows to let the nice air in and what you do you hear? Not the sweet twittering of birds or the crickets. No, you get the sounds of amateurs shooting off fireworks in their backyard and disturbing the peace. They buy the loudest ones they can find and harass everyone for days on end even until after the 4th of July. Fireworks are illegal in Massachusetts, but nobody enforces it. I hope that new law enforcement in this area will actually do their job and enforce the law. Portland Oregon just banned fireworks in their city on the 4th of July because so many crazies were setting them off continually because they were using them as weapons. People with PTSD and children and pets were terrified. On this issue I totally agree with Portland Oregon and I don’t agree with them on much.

As to Kalinowski, what do you expect Krol or Marchetti to do that she won’t, or vice versa? The first rule, as the esteemed Howie Carr once wrote, is to elect a politican who will do no harm. Hell, if she did nothing she would rise above Tyer, Marchetti, Krol and the rest of the GOBSIGs.

15 percent budget cut, not necessary across the board, but in total, which would mean no new taxes and a tax cut.
Removing the bums from the parks and the street corners. could be done in two weeks flat.
Removing the Shot Spooter waste of Kapansi cash, and using the money to actually lock up the bad guys. Tyer was an abject failure on crime. What the hell is the new mayor going to really do about crime?
Both Kronick and Kalinowsky have been advocating for the hard working taxpayers with much push back through their terms. Seems strange that Kronick has been put on a pedestal, yet he is walking away from this fight. On the other hand, Kalinowsky is attempting to continue to fight harder and she is being trashed in this article.
