Both Peter Marchetti and John Krol promised citizens from the start. Krol has kept his promise. Technically, Marchetti didn’t break his promise, since it appears that it wasn’t, hasn’t been, and will not be his to give.
Nowhere will his fingerprints be found on the instrument of bludgeoning, in this case, the local daily, which might as well be listed as one of the Marchetti campaign’s biggest donors. Actually, the council president has no fingerprints. They’ve been long worn off by sticking his finger into the wind once too often to see which way it was blowin’. That’s where he thinks the answers are. Musta have been inspired by the Dylan song.

The story published Wednesday Sept. 20, the day following the preliminary election by the Berkshire Eagle, has awakened a sleeping giant. Anyone who pays attention to local politics and who isn’t a Marchetti supporter will gravitate to Krol if they are not already there. Unfortunately for Peter, that includes the majority of the pitiful few who voted on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Some 54% chose either Krol (39%) or Karen Kalinowsky (15%).
Curious, the timing of the piece, just one of many facets to this journalistic diamond THE PLANET shall be exploring in this series. Despite the Eagle having the story for at least a week, the rag (a) didn’t contact Krol until 6:13 p.m. for the 7 p.m. deadline and (b) ran it the day after the primary. That alone has any person with more than three brain cells questioning the proximity between the election results and the following day’s kick in the balls. If it smells like a pile of horse shit and looks like a pile of horse shit, you can be sure it’s not a bowl of Lucky Charms.
Having dinner with two friends Thursday night at Cim’s, THE PLANET talked to about dozen patrons. Seven hadn’t heard about it (tells you everything you need to know about the failing paper’s circulation), one didn’t care “because I wouldn’t trust anything [the Eagle] prints,” and four called it a some version of a hit piece ( “blow below the belt”).
Based on our delightfully unscientific poll, we’re talking a boomerang effect, with the missile on a trajectory heading for Marchetti’s plus-size physique. Maybe if he cuts down on his beer intake, he’ll make less of a target. It’s Pete, not John, who now cuts a pathetic figure for the way the story has unintentionally got people talking.
What they’re saying is that Marchetti’s campaign isn’t about boosting a hollow man that they don’t even respect. Rather, it’s all about taking down Krol for what looks like personal reasons related not to policy but to his bitter divorce from Alison Johnson, daughter of Brian Johnson, who has been a key figure behind mayoral elections going back to Sara Hathaway. Thanks to the Eagle‘s story, an entirely different narrative is developing. Finally, that cat may have sprung the bag.
The only thing the Eagle’s “expose” exposed was the skank that’s behind the effort to put a sad, pathetic man in the corner office, a man who doesn’t believe in himself and who had better be careful about the multitude of skeletons in his closet. Oh, the juice!

Hit piece? Investigative journalism? Both? Neither?
We can say this much. It wasn’t “investigative” since the Eagle dug up nothing.
Informed sources tell THE PLANET Stacy Carver, ex-wife of Berkshire Money Management’s (BMM) Alan Harris but still his “partner” in the business, delivered the narrative to the local daily not on a silver platter but on a platter that contained 30 pieces of silver.
The gift that keeps giving came armed, sources say, with BMM’s, uh, friendly “suggestion” to Eagle exec editor Kevin Moran, publisher Free ’em Freddy’s bag man, that if the local daily didn’t run the story, BMM’s advertising dollars, which are helping to keep the Boring Broadsheet on life support, might migrate elsewhere. Where that might be in the media-forsaken town of Picklefield wasn’t specified. We can state definitively it wouldn’t be on THE PLANET. We’re not for sale.
Saying Eagle scribe Meg Britton-Mehlische “wrote the story” is like saying William Whipple wrote the Declaration of Independence. Whipple, a mere signatory, later founded a toilet-paper conglomerate. Britton may have typed the story, but that’s about it. So who “wrote” wrote it? Enter THE PLANET‘s newsroom and business sources at the Boring Broadsheet.
Quoting another Carver, Dana The Church Lady, “Could it be” Moran (like “Satan,” contains five letters) his managing editor Lindsey Hollenbaugh, and contributions buy some poor, ink-stained wretch?

And what about the next day’s spiked follow to the “hit job?” The initial plan, apparently, was for the Eagle to “report” on the debate that took place at the paper between Marchetti and Krol, attended by Moran, Meg Britton, Hollenbaugh, and another Eagle editor. What? You didn’t hear about this “forum” held at 3 p.m. not in the Eagle’s conference room but in a small, makeshift studio at 75 Church St.?
Seems the Eagle was counting on Krol not showing up for shame or attending all distraught and distracted. Sources say that instead, they got a confident Krol who wiped the floor with a nervous and sweating Marchetti. It wasn’t what the Eagle counted on, and it looks like Moran spiked the story.
There now. THAT story is out. The one chance the public has of seeing this debate is our exposure of an event that the paper desperately wants buried, since their Wonder Boy soiled the sheets.

THE PLANET contacted Marchetti’s right after the Eagle story broke, asking for comment.
“I have no comment on the issue.”
That told us a lot. If Pete WAS running a clean campaign, he would have said something like “Look, John and I have our differences, but I was disappointed that the paper would run a story of this sort” or words to some such effect. But no. All he said after that was “My committee was not involved in any part of it.” He keeps repeating that, and perhaps if it’s said an infinite number of times by an infinite number of monkeys, ordinary citizens and voters might believe it.
Where does this saga go from this point?
The way forward is for Krol to drop the gloves and come out swinging. Even with the most friendliest home-field advantage, Marchetti wilts in public appearances. The way forward for Marchetti is to denounce the mud-slinging and stance himself from the Eagle piece.

I’m afraid he’s dead in the water. All the name calling in the world and there will be plenty of it from the planet won’t bring him back to life.
Krol must come forward with the documents to clear his name.
If his bank accounts don’t clearly show he had ample money to cover all the improper payments to AMEX, on the “please pay by dates” they were made, he’s cooked.
People that know things are saying they HIGHLY doubt he had the money as he was begging and borrowing all over town to come up with the $750.
It will be a dry run for when 7 North Street starts its work. Shugrue’s office won’t handle the case because of a conflict of interest but it will be passed off to the The Non-Profit Organizations/Public Charities Division in the AG’s office.
To Merry and Bright who is often neither. The embarrassment they were trying to save Allison and the kids from (and remember this is before he walked away from his family) was both public and criminal.
Nothing says “Daddy is bad” as him being a convicted felon but that’s now an option.
I guess though with Squeaky in office the chance of a conviction of one of her campaign coordinators would have been less than zero.

“We invested here,” he said during an interview with his wife, Allison Johnson Krol, in their Trova Terrace home. “We raised our family here and I think that now we’re ready for a new adventure.”
In January, he started a new sales position in Newton for a senior living company called Benchmark. After finishing his current term, he said, he’ll pack up the family and head east.
“It was just a great opportunity to take,” he said of the position as director of community relations.
And while it was that spark of energy that drew him into city politics, he said, the air has since grown tepid.
“Today, I think we’ve kind of lost that magic a little bit,” he said.
Focus on family
He launched the radio show “Good Morning, Pittsfield,” as a way to infuse positive Pittsfield messaging into the local conversation. And later, he said, he worked to do the same with “The John Krol Show” via Facebook Live.
The young couple also had three boys during that time. Their oldest, Arden is 6; while their youngest, Beckett, is 3.
Krol and his wife, who worked for former state Sen. Ben Downing, said they seriously considered a run for mayor in recent years.
But “it’s very hard on a family,” Allison said, noting how young the children are.
While a mayoral run can be a challenge for a young family, Krol said, he emphasized that it’s very doable to balance family life with a City Council seat. He said he’d like to see more young parents take the plunge, as it brings a valuable perspective to the council.

Before you jump the gun Mr. WW, I mean, “breaking news,” if Jon used his AMEX at anytime during his tenure for a business related expense, it’s a defense to prosecution under MGL 266/30.
If you really wanted to cook JK’s goose, you would have brought forth criminal charges, or at least a review by the DA’s Office to see if it was prosecutable or not.
Not some garbage hit piece like what you did.
If I was JK, you’ve now made criminal allegations or the appearance of such, I wouldn’t show you sh!t. It’s the states job to prove fraud, not the other way around shortstop.

So how does this work? What would a sufficient account balance look like in order to exonerate Krol? Sorry but I don’t see an upside for Krol in this gracious offer.
You know what, you’re absolutely right. This proves a valuable point I hadn’t thought of. What proves his innocence simply beyond providing a bank statement that he didn’t steal this money? Rich people steal just as easily as poor people do, it’s not subjective to the poor. Is there a way out? I’m honestly not sure there is at this point.
John made 5 different payments over a period between November 2018- March 2019.
The investigation began in March when Stacey looked at the last two quarters statements. Until that point John Krol was the one directing payments on the account and had full access.
Some of the bills were small and they progressed to being fairly large about $3,000 for one.
If John had the money in his checking account to cover each bill at the time of the bill, then it was a strange and unfortunate mistake. If he did have the money, then it shows that he used to money from animal dreams to cover debts her personally couldn’t afford.
That’s not a mistake, that’s misappropriation of funds.
The ball is in his court, he should get those documents together because soon enough he’s going to be compelled to.

Would love to know why Krol’s ex is being dragged into this? Oh I know, because a classic Narcissist can’t take the heat for his own wrongdoing. Why throw blame at something he did on to her? Was her name on the account? Was her dads? Shameful. Come on PLANET, we can do better and read between his shady lines. If something was fishy there we would smell it.
Ok, timing of this: not great. Probably needed to come out a long time ago, that’s true. Why is Marchetti getting called into Calvary? Just because someone supports his campaign doesn’t mean he was the whistleblower. That’s nuts. Agreed he should make a formal statement, he did today in the Eagles opinion column. Maybe a little lackluster but I don’t think this was his angle. I could be wrong.

I agree. Start from scratch. Both these guys are an insult to the city and the taxpayers deserve much much better. For just one term it would be nice if the special interest, AND THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER, kept a very low profile.

That is the first good thought to come from this story. While the two gangs focus on destroying each other, the Kapanski’s could just say, “A pox on both your houses. We’ll do this election ourselves.”
How about a charter revision that says a mayoral candidate must get at least 5000 votes to be elected. That is less than one fifth of registered voters for gods sake. Make it a mandate and if not reached we go without a mayor for four years.
And while at it make a charter revision that no large expenditures over $250,000 can be made without voter approval. Almost all other county towns do that. Pittsfield is the only one where the mayor gets a Kardashian credit card to go shopping with. It is insane especially since that same person can put the kibash on any serious audit of city expenditures and budget. Crazy. No business would EVER EVER do that. Red flags would be all over that business.
You should pray for no Charter Revisions in 2024. If you want reform, you will need a citizen’s Charter Reform: get 1500 signatures and you will have Your commission.
Krol’s best shot is using his talents in the consulting field advising clients how to lose elections, unless he can answer the 5 w’s ( who, what, why, where, when and how)
His charisma would be better served at Walmart where he’s nowhere near the cash register.

Laughable, man. Tell me where in any court has anyone convicted anyone in this story of “embezzlement,” let alone press any charges?
There is one truth here: Real Estate taxes shall rise average $800/year per house. They promise water/sewer rates too. With Wahconah and police station, borrowing will soar locking us in a high tax environment.
Fiscal responsibility for City Hall: residents must learn to tighten their belts.
If you find yourself unable to pay your exorbitant taxes rest assured there are investors hovering above it just waiting to snap up your home in a heartbeat.
If a city wanted to set up a system to aide and abet such investors they might do it just like Pittsfields. Drive out the home owners through high taxes and let their friends in the investment mob come crawling in.
Every elderly fixed income residents home is probably on a watch list.

None of this column drivel rebuts the original charges of Krol transferring funds from a nonprofit to his personal American Express credit card while holding a position of trust within that nonprofit. For Krol to place the blame on Greylock and others is inexcusable. He should have addressed the charge head on and taken responsibility for his actions. Not fit to be mayor.

Speaking of drivel, what we will see is an “objective” story on it that pretends the paper is covering the campaign in a responsible way. Unless, that is, Kevin Moran is ordered to spike it.

Why in the world should Marchetti say something like that? It would be a travesty if the Eagle got wind of this story and didn’t run it, which you would see if you weren’t so clearly biased.
If Marchetti had anything to do with it, I give him credit for it. If this was some made up crap released the evening before the election that would be one thing. But if this has even a chance of legitimacy the public has a right to know. And the fact of the matter is, John could prove himself innocent very easily by releasing his bank records as has been suggested. But we both know he won’t, because they’re not going to help him. And that’s something you seem to conveniently overlook.

And by the bye, if the shoe were on the other foot and Peter got sandbagged in such an ambush, I would be on his side. Truth, justice, and the American Way. Those aren’t just words.
This begs the question what is the American way? Eagle stays silent and doesn’t run this, you get a guy in office who potentially steals taxpayer money. Nice job! The truth from this point looks like he is in question. That’s all. America is democracy and freedom of speech. The paper had every right to run this and expose him. They can’t help that they received it this week. All he has to do to clear his name is the simple task of providing statements that prove it was a true and honest mistake. He’s been given the option.
If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen. Don’t put yourself in a position of public office if you’re not capable of handling backlash. Makes him look pathetic. Be clean, honest and have some level of integrity. He’s got some major skeletons in his closet and it begs the question of how he is capable of handling the cities budget. Right now, no matter what he does it doesn’t look good for him.

I have no quarrel with the Eagle running it. The problem is that they spent at least a week sourcing the story. They accept wholesale the story and docs from Carver. Then give Krol 47 minutes to comment before releasing the story. If I had done this with my city editor back in the day, he would have thrown the story back in my face. They should have contacted John immediately and asked for his paper trail. That should have been a big part of the story. Yes, the paper should have run it, but what about the alleged threat of Berkshire Money Management to pull their ad dollars if the Eagle DIDN’T run it? Also, the timing of the story? The day after the prelim, again, without a meaningful chance for the other side to respond. Nope.

Agreed. Hindsight perhaps they should have given more time to vet and bring documents to the table. I’m not disputing that. But let’s be honest, 47 minutes [if you’re honest and keep good records] should be enough time to make a conscientious statement about what happened, say I’ll bring documents tomorrow to prove my innocence and come clean if there was any wrong-doing accepting fault. If that was the case I’d have way more respect for the dude if he said, you know, I had some financial issues back in the day and was worried about providing for my family. [let’s not forget his brash statement at one of the debates that said we have to assume anyone who steals is abusing drugs? We heard that one and many others did as well. Should we make that same assumption and judgement call on you too Krol?] Dangerous rhetoric he’s spewing there as people steal for a whole host of reasons. Would love to know his reason…
So instead of taking the high road, what did he do? Pulled the coward move and placed an immediate blame on Greylock [unwittingly abusing their integrity as a financial institution] and the story truly doesn’t add up. If the bank had the wrong “router” as he says, those funds NEVER would have made it to AMEX to begin with. That is fact. Banking 101. Perhaps he can put it back into the school budget to teach this course as it’s evident that he and the people of Pittsfield lack this basic knowledge.
The funds would’ve kicked back into their system notifying them there was an issue in less than 24 hours: to which case, they would have notified Mr. Krol. That didn’t happen now did it? The funds made it there and subsequently for the remainder of 5 months. 😉 Then we have the issue of the wrong account number statement. It happens, yes I suppose but is not the general rule of thumb. Again, he would HAVE to have had more than the amount in question in his personal account to cover expenses in order to clear his name. It will be interesting to see if his statements show he had enough funds to cover the AMEX charges at the time. My spidey sense tells me that’s not the case since he was hard pressed to come up with $750 and then couldn’t pay the rest. He needed the generous “gift” he says he accepted of Harris to bail him out. Let’s move backward to go forward from there, [prior to all this nonsense], his business One Eighty Media Inc., was court ordered to DISSOLVE on June 30, 2017. That’s public knowledge. A month later he takes additional funds from Harris, I believe an advance of 28 g’s if I’m not mistaken to be exact to start, The Just Kidding Podcast. Perhaps Harris should disclose if that particular loan has been paid back or even on time monthly. That would certainly be an interesting fact. There was a relationship there clearly between Carver, Harris and Krol for many years. Severed when this came to light. Also, if he was already removed as Board President, why wasn’t he also removed as fiduciary immediately? That I question and put on Carver, seems odd and would have been caught much sooner. Most organizations that have a changing of the guard do so immediately. That’s on her.
Political hit job? Eh, not “exactly” maybe political timing job but let’s see what he does from here.

Trying to address your points in order and briefly. You ask for documentation that BMM threatened to pull advertising from the Eagle? Good heavens, man! That stuff is never put in writing. I’ve seen this done at every newspaper, radio station, and TV outlet I’ve ever worked in of know of. It’s gotten even worse with the internet hogging from print and beyond most of the precious ad $$$. That’s why since day 1 and 3,000 columns, THE PLANEt has never taken a local cent in ad $$$. We don’t want that kind of money. I also could have gone the subscription route and made a small fortune. Also didn’t want that approach. I wanted to keep it unbought, unbiased, and unbossed.
My guess is that Krol used the word “routing number” when he meant “account number.” It took my wife, who’s a former banker, to explain that to me!
I have no knowledge of Krol’s personal finances then or now. Harris would do well to comment on that alleged advance of $28,000.
Great point about Carver’s inaction in not removing him from the fiduciary position.
Dan the paper already knows he can’t provide a paper trail that would support his claim. Maybe you can give him a platform, toss a few softballs, but please get the account statements from his bank on the payment dates of the Amex payments. I know it will prove he’s lying but try anyway.
There are dozens of texts back and forth that haven’t been shown, some very very personal.
Allison was dragged into this because he used her and the kids as a way to convince Carver/Harris not to go public before, not to prosecute, and to bail him out.
If all the texts and emails came out you’d see the true measure of John Krol Jr. and it would be very very bad.
THE PLANET will give a forum to anyone who can provide paper trails, and that includes John Krol. I would be more than happy to get from him the account statements. All I can do is ask, which I will do. As for the dozens of texts to which you refer, care to send them my way? Include some evidence that they are legit, s’il vous plai’t. As for Alison, what you say may be true, but Krol has publicly stated that she tried to leverage the mistake/embezzlement (choose which one) to get more from him in the divorce, which by everything I’ve been told, was a nasty one. Nothing good emerges from that kind of split.

Are you asking Allison if this is true, or are you making the assumption it is because John said so?
The Berkshire Eagle has them and it’s not my place to give them. I do know there’s some to a couple people where Krol is trying to borrow money to cover the debt. Ask John where he got the initial $750 from.
I do agree this is a trap for Krol by the Berkshire Eagle and he’s got his neck in it.

We live in a new era of McCarthyism. Instead of giving a person the benefit of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law usually by a Jury of one’s peers, there are extremist people and news media outlets out there that go full force against a person in the harshest of terms.
In politics, things become conspiratorial instead of rational. In my own experiences in Pittsfield politics when I was a young man many years ago, I didn’t understand who I was fighting against until I witnessed unusual events unfold before my own eyes. As a 48-year-old man, I now know who I was fighting against all of those years ago.
Career politicians are all about corruption (money), retribution (rule by fear), and power (authority). When I witnessed politics over the years, I found out that everything was a done deal because the money went into the pockets of the politicians and their vested and special interest that finance their decades in elected office. I found out that when someone stands against corrupt career politicians, they receive retribution even in the land of the free and the home of the brave. I found out that authority applies to who you are, not necessarily your actions.
The Beltway in the Swamp is the wealthiest region of the U.S.A. Instead of the government serving the people, Capitol Hill is K Street’s “pay to play” paradise. Maryland and then the part of Virginia closest to Capitol Hill and K Street are also very wealthy suburban areas.
Meanwhile, the U.S.A. has a huge swath of the country called the postindustrial “rust belt” whereby there are endless rows of trailer parks, as well as many impoverished inner cities with their countless social services agencies, the jail and prison industrial complex whereby a youth that is able to graduate from high school is at risk of ending up of behind bars because the ruling elites refuse to invest in people and communities, and so on.
In closing, John Krol is and should be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. John Krol should not have received the harshest of treatment by the Dirty Bird (Berkshire Eagle). Pittsfield has politicians other than John Krol that almost always receive a free pass from the Eagle. I will never support John Krol in Pittsfield politics because of his allegiance to Jimmy Ruberto, who is one of the biggest Good Old Boys in Pittsfield politics, and he was a failed Mayor of Pittsfield for 8 years (2004 – 2011) who never owned a home nor rented an apartment in Pittsfield in his entire life. I see John Krol as a dupe who needs to get his own personal life together instead of trying to make his mid-life political comeback in Pittsfield politics.

Bottom line to all, Eagle had plenty of evidence that supports the claim against him. If he could prove it was wrong he could have immediately provided an explanation and statements showing the error. His “router” story falls completely flat in my book. He needed more time because he has to “prepare” how he’s going to get out of it. Classic narcissistic borderline personality behavior. The man is a walking billboard for it.

I have known her dad, Brian, for decades. Good chap, even though he’s a diehard Yankee fan. Supporting his daughter? Totally understandable. Brian’s involvement in mayoral politics is well known and indisputable, unless everyone who has talked of it over the years is telling tall tales. The reason to bring this up is that his animus toward his ex son-in-law, in combination to his unofficial work to get Marchetti elected, should be brought into the open, not because there’s anything wrong or illegal with it but in the interests of transparency. Many voters will certainly leave Krol but only one or two would ever migrate to Marchetti. They just will not vote for a mayor. March 2015 Krol claims he asks Greylock Federal Credit Union for checking account routing and account number to set up Amex payments directly from hic checking account. He claims GFCU sent him router number for Animals Dreams instead of his account. That makes little sense since the router number is for the financial institution and not the checking account. Irregardless he doesn’t set these payments up until Nov 2018? Why ask for the info and then wait 3 years to set up the payments?
2016 Krol become co-signatory for AD account. Why was he asking for the above before he was even the treasurer?
Payments get made from AD account for Nov and Dec 2018 and Feb and March 2019. Total of $ 6829
April 2018 Krol leaves board.
June 2019 Carver goes over books and discovers non AD payments to.America. Express which turn out to be Krol.
June 27, 2019 Carver texts Krol about what she he found. He acts surprised.
July 20, 2019 Krol pays $ 750 of $ 6829 owed. Why almost a month only to pay a measly $ 750.
August 13, 2019 Krol pays off balance of $ 6100, almost 2 months after being told of discovery.

The exact definition of tyranny that the Founders – who mostly owned Slaves – fought the British Crown over was that the Colonialists in the North American 13 States had no legal right to due process of law and they could lose everything they owned, including the Right to Life, Liberty, and Property (the Pursuit of Happiness) at the whim of the British Crown’s decree.
John Krol, whom I would never support and/or vote for in politics, is still a U.S. Citizen with state and federal constitutional entitlements including the absolute right to be innocent until guilty just like the rest of us. I liked his older sister when I was in classes with her over 30 years ago now when we attended Pittsfield High School together. She is a nice person. Unlike his older sister, I don’t know John Krol on a personal basis. I am repulsed by his politics because his political boss is Jimmy Ruberto, who was a failed Mayor of Pittsfield who never owned a home, nor did he ever rent an apartment, in Pittsfield in his life, but told local taxpayers to “sacrifice” to move the distressed city forward, which as we all know all too well failed to happen.
This is not about John Krol anymore, but rather, this is about the fact that the Massachusetts and the U.S.A. alike are a nation of laws, not of men. We put our good faith in the law, not in men. John Krol’s character and reputation was viciously attacked in Pittsfield politics, but it should mean nothing until he is given his right to due process under law with Equal Justice Under Law. The Dirty Bird (Berkshire Eagle) needs to state these words instead of being a self-righteous yellow journalistic rag!

A while back I read the breakdown of the 3 main levels of government – federal, state and local – cost analyzing of funding homelessness programs in Manchester, NH. The state and federal government pay only 15 to 20 percent of the cost, which leaves the city with 80 to 85 percent of the cost of funding homelessness programs, as I recall.
In less than one week on October 1st, 2023, the federal government may shutdown because U.S. Congress are a bunch of immature rich brats who do nothing but raise money from K Street corporate lobbyist firms to get reelected for life. John Krol, a mayoral candidate, has been accused of a felony crime. This is a serious accusation, one that he will now have to proceed with under the advice of legal counsel. He shouldn’t be releasing any information to the public without counsel.
It’s sickening how this accusation has completely distracted the community from the actual mayoral campaign. People are going to spend the next month speculating and arguing about cheating spouses, secret handshakes, and failing businesses.
I believe the original Eagle article didn’t have the outrage factor it expected which is why the editorial soon followed. It was a second attack, knowing full and well that Krol can’t just release all of his financial info while potentially under investigation. His failure to do so will be used against him, he will be accused of hiding and dodging transparency, all the while they know full well that he cannot.

As you are a resident of Stockbridge, you are a constituent of Lenox State Representative Smitty Pignatelli’s large and mostly rural state legislative district, and I request that you please ask the over 20-year corrupt career politician in Boston if he lives in reality, please.

Smitty Pignatelli led a Town Hall forum on housing and food insecurity in Berkshire County.
“Pignatelli said housing and food insecurity are hot topics in the State House and recognized the individual needs of Berkshire County.”
Reality: The Boston Statehouse has done little to nothing so far in 2023. It is the least productive state legislative session in over one decade. They have not met in formal session since the end of July 2023, and it is almost October 1st, 2023. This week, Beacon Hill lawmakers will vote to giveaway hundreds of millions of dollars in state tax breaks to the wealthiest households and big businesses in Massachusetts, which as no benefit to mostly rural Western Massachusetts.
Pignatelli said that the new administration – Governor Maura Healey – is committed to solving these problems, but she doesn’t have a plan.
Why didn’t Smittiy Pignatelli invite Governor Maura Healey to his Town Hall forum? Would she have taken issue with his claim that she doesn’t have a plan for housing and hunger? It seems like Smitty Pignatelli is trying to be a hero, while making the Governor, Maura Healey, a zero.
“Insufficient housing and wages were identified as the problems that seem most foundational to housing and food security challenges and the same were identified as the two hardest aspects to overcome.”
Reality: Smitty Pignatelli has been a corrupt career politician in Boston for over 20 years now. Insufficient housing and low wages reflect directly on his do nothing, failed leadership in the corrupt and secretive top-down State House that he always affirms in his rubber stamp voting record.
“Pignatelli cautioned attendees that a bond bill is “Monopoly money” until the administration says it is real.”
Once again, Smitty Pignatelli puts the burden of housing and food insecurity on the Governor, Maura Healey, while State Lawmakers do little to nothing so far in 2023.

Perhaps I used the wrong word above. I called this he said she said fiasco an accusation. Perhaps the correct term is “suspicion”.
But since everyone wants to be a detective and scrutinize a “suspicion” presented by the one-sided, biased Eagle, let’s.
For one, no one seems to have noticed that it was John himself that brought to Stacy’s attention that he was still listed on the AD account, in February 2019.
She asked John to be the treasurer for a reason. Based on the info presented in the Eagle, it would be safe to assume it’s because she is no accounting whiz herself. She didn’t do her business’s books for six months. It was then, in June, long after the banking errors had occurred
(and stopped) that she discovered them.
She also told the Eagle that it was so noticeable because AD was only bringing in $20,000 at most. Yet public filings reveal the annual revenue amounts for Animal Dreams:

She probably said to herself? looks like a discrepancy in 2019 accountsand probably saw the low figure in 2019 from past years.. And I would blame that on COVID which was the same year as the lowest total. Bottom line if they’re saying Krol can’t manage a budget he certainly has landed on his feet from previous money problems.
But ask Yourself? Has Pittsfield been under fiscal responsibility with Tyer Kerwood Marchetti regime. HELL NO.

I’d worry about $10 if I thought my treasurer was using charity funds to pay personal debts.
It doesn’t matter how little or much the person who started the charity personally makes, what matters is being able to trust that the donations are not being used for personal debts, worse when it’s the treasurer doing it.
Imagine if John Krol was black, and instead of animal dreams money it was BLM money being misappropriated, a full hundred percent of this board would be out for blood.

But none of that really matters and is just a deflection because John already admitted taking the money, so Stacy’s bookkeeping skills are irrelevant. What is relevant is did John embezzle or not. Nothing else. Trying to blame everyone else but him isn’t going to change that.
So did the money that was given to Mr Krol come from a business account or some type of slush fund or what. Sounds very fishy.

Well it was stated by Krol Harris said don’t tell Stacy? Because it would upset her? Maybe she found out the 6800 was given to Krols media account looking like a business transfer. If that was the case he’s guilty [Krol] of collusion. Why? Because it was and is stated by Krol himself Harris gave him the money.
Are you people stupid? He’s admitted the transaction. He’s not admitting he stole anything. He’s stating the transaction was a mistake,a banking error. The only thing he’s guilty of is paying Carvers charity back. Period. In a court this is tossed out.
Stupid? I never said he admitted to stealing it. I said he admitted to taking it. The transaction which he orchestrated resulted in the money being taken from the Animal Dreams account and being paid to his AMEX account and he has admitted to this, so let’s not split hairs.
He says it was a mistake. I say great, show us the paperwork to prove it. As someone running for public office he owes it to the voters to show how this went down. I would think he would want to clear his name, I certainly would. This could have been cleared up days ago and you wouldn’t have to be here trying to deflect attention away from the issue. I can only think of one reason why he isn’t looking to prove his innocence….
Animal Dreams did not “bring in” from public donations more than $20k on a good year most years.
Much of the posted revenue was investment income and direct donations from Harris/Casey.
If you look at the corporate charter it takes a board vote to remove an officer and to remove them from signing authority.
John Krol was the treasurer, the charter doesn’t allow for the president or other officers to hold the treasurer position, so the “delay” in removing him was SOP for a board with bylaws that are ratified and approved by the Commonwealth. They have to follow their rules.
What would have been better, if John didn’t use charity money to pay his debts. If as treasurer he would have noticed the money going out to his Amex account, said something, and paid the money back immediately.
That didn’t happen. What did happen is the person that approved payments and bills somehow accidentally used the account number [not router number] to pay his credit card bill, and didn’t notice it when he was approving the disbursements.
Only after another semiannual review of accounts in preparation for tax filings and general book keeping did someone else notice the issue. Even after being found out he lied about paying the money back as he took weeks to scrape together a measly $750 and then couldn’t pay the rest of his bill.
I watch city council meetings and I warch all the online I terriers and debates as well as the ones on PCTV and I’m concerned. Isee Peter Marchetti and I’m concerned that the poor guy is in the early stages of dementia, I encourage you to watch what you can

You can’t say that. He didn’t embezzle. No charges have been filed that say it. The matter was settled in his divorce proceedings, where he says his ex try to weaponize the discrepancy against him and failed. Only narrow-minded thinkers think in terms of “liberal” and “conservative.” I am neither and both.

Well there’s a stretch Dan. It was divorce court. Not criminal court. They did no investigation because that’s not what they do. Since he hadn’t been charged with anything at that time they couldn’t use it. That certainly doesn’t absolve him from possible criminality. Jeesh!
