On May 25, 2024 at approximately 6:50 PM, the Pittsfield Police Dept., Pittsfield Fire Dept., and County Ambulance responded to the area of 664 West Housatonic St. for a report of a motor vehicle vs dirt bike crash.
A 2022 Honda Ridgeline operated by a Mr. Peter Schettini, ( 53 years of age of Pittsfield, MA), was traveling south bound on Plymouth St, when he collided with a dirt bike that was traveling west bound on West Housatonic St. The dirt bike was operated by Mr. John Tyska (34 years of age of Pittsfield). Mr. Tyska was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of his injuries.
West Housatonic St was closed to traffic from Osceola St to Cadwell Rd for approximately four hours while the investigation into this collision took place and for the roadway to be cleared.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any information concerning this incident is asked to contact Ofc Anthony Dayton of the Pittsfield Police Dept. at 413-448-9700 ext 543.

It’s bad enough what they did to North Street with electric scooters, poor parking and bike lanes. And let’s not forget what they did with Wahconah Park, letting it fall into disrepair.
Now, thanks to their penny-wise, pound-foolish trash proposal, the city is making another bad decision. (“Pittsfield recycling program will save money, officials say. Are residents on board?” Eagle, May 22.)

I read that a lot of the state lawmakers in Boston are landlords, who neglect the rising rent and mortgages in Massachusetts. Imagine a homeless Veteran returning to their hometown in Massachusetts, but they are ineligible for immediate housing under the state’ Right to Shelter law. A homeless Veteran put one’s life on the line for our country, but the state law leaves the Veteran at-risk of homelessness….because state lawmakers recently voted the measure down, including Berkshire-based State Representatives Smitty Pignatelli, Tricia Farley Bouvier, and John Barrett III.
Why aren’t The Berkshire Eagle and/or blogger Dan Valenti writing about this matter? It should be “a no brainer”: Pass a state law in Massachusetts to make Veterans eligible for immediate housing under the state’s Right to Shelter law!

Dan, I very much enjoyed watching your recommended program, Agganis: The golden Greek. Excellence to the End I found it interesting I had met 4 personalities mentioned in the book. They are Harry, Mike Dukakis, Boston University’s head football coach Buff Donelli, and chief Red Sox scout Neil Mahoney.
The early 1950’s are long time ago and many today never heard of Harry Agganis. He’s from Lynn, Mass. and was one of America’s great athletes. As a college junior he was number one draft choice of the Cleveland Browns. Yes, #1. He was a quarterback. The following year he chose baseball and signed with the Boston Red Sox. One year in Triple A and he became regular first baseman for the Boston Red Sox. Two months into the season he was hitting 319 and it appeared he was on his way to stardom. He became ill, admitted to a hospital and at the age of 26 died of pneumonia.
I found it interesting this program mentioned there may have been medical incompetence that led to his death. He was treated at a hospital not in Boston proper. Why he never went, and why did treating doctors never send him to Mass. General Hospital is a mystery.

Sancta Maria Hospital was ill-equipped for a case like the Golden Greek’s, but it was the Red Sox’ official hospital. It was small and run by nuns. The Sox could control the narrative of any player’s treatment if they were sent there. Harry would have been much better off at MGH and, as to film says, might have been cured.
The chain-of-evidence is a huge deal in absentee voting. We do not know who is voting. I am strongly against absentee voting without an excuse and maybe even with an excuse. Early voting is fine if its done in-person with an ID as it is here in Indiana.
