A TALE OF TWO DOCUMENTS ‘FLAG’ THE CITY’S SCREWED-UP PRIORITIES
BY DAN VALENTI
PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY
(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION JULY 25-7, 2025) — Somehow, Pittsfield, now Bitchfield, got along for 264 years without a “cultural plan.”
Not now, though. Not under the deadbeat adherents of Two Pete Government. Seems the idiots find devising a “cultural plan” more important than containing the out-of-control costs of government, lowering taxes, addressing the appalling rise in crime, and other such trivialities.
Culture? Give me Doric columns, the music of Stravinsky, and the high art of Jon Gnagy, the Bob Ross of his era. You can read the city’s plan here:
———- ooo ———-
Let’s not kid around. Bitchfield needs a “cultural plan” the way Peter Marchetti needs another 36-pack of Yuengling … the way Pete White needs another action figure.
Nonetheless, Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski got one: 42 pages of post-COVID low-brow calling itself high. The document was created by a four-headed committee. You can tell by the lies, the biggest one of which is the claim that the city “welcome[s] the public’s feedback and look[s] forward to a continuing conversation after the plan’s release.” Left unsaid is the philosophical problem of how one has a “continuing conversation” after there has been no conversation at all. Oh, the “grantees” talked to the usual suspects, but d’ya think The Kapanskis care or have time? Nah, THE PLANET didn’t think so.

Join Dan Valenti at HOTEL ON NORTH for an artistic display of witticism and good cheer. Buy a book, get it signed!
Incidentally, the four-headed hydra included the Berkshire Black Economic Council, Downtown Pittsfield Inc., and Berkshires Tomorrow (ever heard of it? Nah, didn’t think so). Its first priority: “Restore civic pride by fostering a diverse arts and culture landscape in which all feel welcome and included.”
There you have it. The plan speaks in code, using the trigger words of “diverse” and a derivative of “inclusion.” Does THE PLANET have to draw you a map? Do we see Shirley Edgerton hovering nearby like the Great Gazoo?
The document has pretty colors. We’ll give it that much.
———- ooo ———-
Oh, and did you see that the Bitchfield sochfolcldx committee, not wanting to be outdone by THE PLANET‘s Right Honorable Good Friends on the City Council, has issued a flag policy of its own. Yes, another document by committee!
“Flag Procols on School Property” will rank in significance with the Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights, and the bill of sale for Jed Clampett’s 1921 43-A Oldsmobile Roadster.
To clarify the policy, committeewoman Sara “Lady Jane” Shoegum spake like Zarathustra: “Nobody could come to us and say, ‘We want our white supremacist flag to fly, just because you have to give equal consideration to all points of view,’ because we would say ‘No, it has to be the official sentiments of the School Committee.‘”
THE PLANET thanks Ms. Shoegum, who in another lifetime used to be mayor. Only Lesbian, Queer, and Trans supremacists are welcome to apply, apparently. They can get their flag flying time, to be sure.
Jolly good, what?
Have a great weekend, everybody.

Which flag flies the highest in Pittsfield?
Is it the sky high city spending?
Is it the sky high violent crime rate?
Is it the the Level 5, Group 11 public school district?
Is it the social services agencies and empty storefronts on North Street?
Is it the Berkshire Eagle’s biased news and opinions?
Is it the PCBs from GE?
Is it the corrupt political establishment with their disservices to the common people?
Is it my 2 middle fingers for Mayor Peter Marchetti’s “War against the Underclass” residents?
Flats got her gig. And lumpy will get his feed. That’s all that counts. Don’t know what they’re grooming Dizzy for,but she just doesn’t have the brains.
Cultural Plan is an acronym for Money Funnel. As in, “our Cultural Plan will funnel taxpayer dollars to special interest venues few if any of which will benefit the residents paying for it out of their hard earned dollars. Dollars that will be taken away from those needed to support themselves and their families.
Pittsfield could slash its tax rate by 50 percent if it cut unnecessary spending. But property taxes have become a slush fund for city bigwigs who love to party on others peoples money.
Someone, in the dark morning hours before the sky shifts to silver grey may just unfurl the proud Gadsen flag and JB Weld it to the very peak of the PHS flagpole.
The hypocrisy of the Democrats never fails to amaze. As they obsess over the flying of the LGBT flag and equity and diversity, they never mention the antisemitism that has overtaken their party. That a New York mayoral candidate is in favor of the intifada. The Democrats are all supporting Mamdani. His supporters are products of the school system that has pushed communism and antisemitism. The danger of this bigotry by the left in this country and across the world is never addressed because they want everyone to believe they are so fair and care so much about human rights. This is why they continually try to reinforce this to the public with the LGBT flag flying and diversity and equity. They are hoping their supporters ignore their dark side of intolerance.
Bitchfield is dead on arrival.
The country is unsafe with Trump morons running the dismantling of America’s democracy for the fascist Authoritarian model and the stopping of immagrant blood poisoning white lazy ass blood.Trump put a 400k bounty on hunting south American dark skinned Christian families on top of the Epstien murder and the rapes that are being covered up.The diversion is not working.Theres more to the Trump Epstien relationship if you know what I mean.

TSC if the democRATS had Trump dead to right with the Epstein list, don’t you think they would have used it during Autopen’s presidency to put Trump in prison and out of the race against Kackles? Assuring their power in office and of course, “saving democracy?”
You know, after the democRATS scrubbed their key players (Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Tom Hanks, etc) off of it,
They did try to assassinate President Trump twice during the campaign season, so spare us the moral high ground.
I’ll await your……crickets
Trump’s relationship with Epstein has been a matter of record since he was deposed in the criminal case, during which he fully cooperated. The Democrats are now being baited (Elon) into demanding more of the case files be released. Once again, under the delusion that this is the thing that will finally bring down Trump. In fact, they will be putting the noose around their own neck, when files are released. So fun to watch.

Mayor Lumpy, CC prez Wimpy White, and the rest of the Bitchfield GOBSIG’s better start focusing on real issues that people are complaining about or lose funding.
President Trump is signing an EO ordering cities to use federal funds for rehab and treatment centers and remove them from the streets or lose federal funding. No more using federal funds for “affordable housing,” which is nothing more than the latest democRAT money grift.
Tossing endless amounts of money at a problem with no solution to the problem, doesn’t solve the problem. It only fattens the wallets of those involved.

I did find that Berkshires Tomorrow, is just the Berkshire Regional Planning Commision (BRPC) renamed.
https://berkshireplanning.org/about/berkshires-tomorrow/
If your life depended on selling a product or you would die, but the catch is, the BBEC, Downtown Inc, and Berkshires Tomorrow, are the group in charge of pitching and selling that product. How much faith would you have that your life would continue on with this stellar group of “business leaders?”
No, me either.
Thanks for the information, MARK.
Yeah once that funding stops, these tenants get kicked to the road.
And for every homeless or low income person you get into an apartment ten more needy people appear on the horizon. And due to steady increases in the price of food, clothing, medical, dental, car and home insurance, home and vehicle maintenance repairs, and RIDICULOUS TAX RATES, dozens more will need a place to live, perhaps hundreds or thousands.
Finding housing for a handful of people here and there solves nothing if economic conditions and a dysfunctional society create more every day. Perhaps addressing the causes of homelessness would be less costly.
And what is the total financial outlay, beginning to end, to get each lucky person into a place to live? Thousands? Tens of thousands? And who winds up with all this money it cost to get people into an apartment? Contractors and administrators maybe? Is houselessness an economic engine?
Perhaps if Pittsfield was not spending enormous amounts of money on projects the city does not need in tough economic times, it would be helpful? How much is the annual interest on city debt that taxpayers get hit for and how much will Marchetti and White add to it?
Is it true that Pete White agrees with Mr Marchetti that the taxpayers of the city of Pittsfield should not be allowed to have a referendum vote to express their opinions on gigantic taxpayer funded capitol outlays such as a 30 plus million dollar ballpark/event venue? And if so has he outlined his reasons why he feels they should not have a voice in such matters even though most cities and towns all across America do? Does he feel they are too stupid or just generally beneath people like himself and other city councilors?

Citizens cannot be committed, unless they are proven by a jury- to be a danger to themselves, or others- beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Same standard as Criminal/ deprivation of liberty….
Trump should figure a way to encourage voluntary commitment, rehabilitation and jobs programs.
Massachusetts has long violated Due process of Defendants, by fraudulently committing to Bridgewater mental health prison( most dangerous prison in New England) to extort pleas from defendants who rely on public pretenders.
Caccaviello tried it on myself, as usual unless he has a stacked deck / public pretender , he’s a loser.
Look for an upcoming, federal criminal case against Trial court /district attorneys/ public pretenders for RICO, civil rights violations 18usc 1983-88,240&241 at minimum.
Just in time for 26/28 election cycles/ gain another 8/20% of minority voters , who have been abused by the criminalized justice system.

I’m sure I missed a few, so add to the list…….
You forgot to write about the scoundrel named Hunter Biden.
Would Hunter be covered by ^^^^ drug culture? or are Biden’s pedophile culture?
That was the stupidest interview with Hunter a week ago. And does anyone even care what he has to say about anything?
The democRATS are purposely destroying the family culture in America with all of that bull$hit.
They embrace the fatherless households because statistically those are the groups of people who are most dependent on gubermint assistance and vote liberal. Can’t be made to work or face losing da welfare.
Don’t understand what I’m talking about, take a stroll through any of Bitchfield’s city parks on any nice weekend morning and you’ll notice the vast number of single moms there with their children.
*Just look for a ring on her finger if you still don’t understand. If no ring, it’s highly likely she’s a single momma. Probably with a few baby daddies in Bitchfield, jail, NYC, and areas beyond.
Fortunately these plans are never looked at again.
Now the favorite mayhem in Bitchfield is knife throwing…at people

Hello blogger Dan Valenti,
High rents constrain the working-class residents’ limited budgets in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
One of the reasons why rents are so high in Pittsfield in relation to the working-class’ incomes is because:
Pittsfield’s city budget spends over $62 million per fiscal year more than its similar sized small city counterpart Westfield’s city budget.
Who does the op-ed writer thinks the landlords in Pittsfield turn to when they have to pay the city government’s excessively high local taxes and fees?
Answer: The working-class renters in Pittsfield.
Then there are the small businesses who have to pay for Pittsfield’s endless spending sprees when they pay their local taxes and fees.
Who does the op-ed writer thinks the small business owners in Pittsfield turn to when they have to pay the city government’s high taxes and fees?
Answer: The diminished customers who shop in downtown Pittsfield’s stores, and dine at the restaurants.
The answers to downtown Pittsfield’s woes are obvious:
1. Put a roof over the homeless residents’ heads.
2. Provide targeted assistance to help the Underclass residents get out of poverty.
3. Cut the city’s spending to close to that of Westfield’s spending levels.
4. STOP Mayor Peter Marchett’s “War against the Underclass” residents who panhandle and/or are homeless once and for all.
5. Build affordable housing in Pittsfield, and invest in transportation focused on the working-class residents so that they are able to get to and from their places of employment.
Best wishes,
Jon Melle

“Pittsfield needs to look beyond camping ordinance to bring North Street back to life”
By Mitchell Chapman, Op-Ed, The Berkshire Eagle, July 25, 2025
PITTSFIELD — What will it take to revitalize North Street?
That question has been top of mind amid the debate over a proposed ordinance that would ban people from sleeping on public property. It comes at the behest of store owners, who claim that visible homelessness is hurting their businesses and has left Pittsfield lagging behind other cities and towns in the region.
“We just want to be a player,” Evan Valenti of Steven Valenti’s Clothing for Men said.
However, banning people from sleeping on North Street won’t reignite it. That’s because such an ordinance won’t fix the limitations of North Street. People need a reason to visit downtown; this doesn’t give them one.
An engine for downtown
Why should people come to North Street? That’s the most important question the city needs to answer.
Right now, restaurants and mostly niche small businesses that struggle to attract casual shoppers line North Street. But it wasn’t always that way.
North Street once was a center of commerce decades ago, when legendary establishments like England Bros. anchored it. But it failed to adapt to changing times, particularly the city’s big box boom, which, since the 1980s, drove shoppers away from the region’s Main Streets and into strip malls.
It’s too late to put the genie back in the lamp for big retail. But like other large cities in the region, Pittsfield can work with it. That means accommodating both niche shops and larger businesses, like department stores, downtown — some of which might be chains, though the street’s growth is limited by the amount and size of the empty storefronts available on and near it.
Local businesses might bristle at this concept. But national retailers are proven drivers of traffic, which the street needs, and small businesses are already competing with them. Regardless, North Street needs an engine to stimulate economic activity.
Shaping growth
Next, North Street needs to shape its growth. This is where city design comes in. Once people are downtown, they need to stay there.
In order to facilitate that, North Street needs to be safe, comfortable and interesting — three tenets that are hallmarks of great downtowns.
North Street is undergoing a redesign in which it’s trying to get the right balance of pedestrian, bicycle and car traffic, which is important for its safety. But it also has to be a pleasant place with plenty of amenities like public bathrooms and benches. The city has made progress with the former this month, but its number of benches are still few and far in between, with several blocks lacking any.
Reducing the amount of concrete along the street and adding plants and greenspaces could make the street more welcoming. Adding trees can cool it down by mitigating heat islands. Maintaining the city’s long-neglected brick facade crosswalks and overall aesthetics is important, too — North Street should be not only functional but beautiful.
Good design and proper signage can ensure that parking is plentiful, simple to locate and a driver of foot traffic downtown. People should be incentivized to leave their cars behind and enjoy themselves.
Housing
Housing is a key ingredient to not only North Street but the city’s success. Pittsfield needs people to be able to live and work here — as well as have sufficient disposable income.
According to the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, 55 percent of Pittsfield renters are cost-burdened (paying more than 30 percent of their income on housing), compared to 31 percent of homeowners. That’s a significant population downtown can only tap into sparingly. High rents also correlate with a recent increase in homelessness in the city.
Pittsfield will add more than 100 new units by December, some of which will be along North Street. However, the city needs 2,035 new units over a decade to ease its housing crisis. Addressing that demand is a necessary step to bring the street back to life.
What can the city do?
All of that is easier said than done, but there are doable steps the city can take to make it a reality.
First, it can supercharge its economic development Red Carpet Team by increasing its membership, resources and mission. The team can serve as a critical link to connect owners of empty storefronts downtown with prospective businesses of all sizes. It can also provide concrete action items for City Hall by identifying further incentives it can offer to lure businesses to the city, local barriers to doing business (like restrictive zoning and inefficient permitting) and areas where other metro areas in the region are outcompeting Pittsfield.
Zoning reform can clear the way for duplexes and other types of housing. The city also can explore ways to bridge housing prices for existing units, like offering incentives to landlords who rent affordably through its affordable housing trust.
Banning people from sleeping on public property will only get North Street so far. Pittsfield needs to pour its energy into bringing people to North Street — not pushing them away.

What does North Street, also known as “Social Services Alley” with over one dozen empty storefronts, inner-city Pittsfield, also known as “The Ring of Poverty” distressed neighborhoods that surrounds North Street, and the city’s excessive spending all have in common?
Answer: Taxpayers are subsidizing a corrupt city government that always does the same thing over and over again for over the past 4 decades with the worst results over and over again – the definition of INSANITY, and the exact illustration of Pittsfield politics.
Why is Westfield’s fiscal year operating budget over $62 million less than Pittsfield’s annual spending? They are two similar small city governments in Western Massachusetts. Pittsfield should cut its excessive spending by tens of millions of dollars per fiscal year.
Pittsfield’s tax base is shrinking. Pittsfield’s municipal spending is growing to record high levels. It is the worst of both worlds.
Many thousands of people have moved away from Pittsfield over the past over 50 years. Many small businesses have closed in Pittsfield, too. The living wage, blue collar jobs of over 50 years ago are never coming back to Pittsfield – neither is GE nor any other Fortune 500 corporation.
Mayor Peter Marchetti’s policy proposals punish the Underclass residents, his excessive city spending punishes the taxpayers, and anyone who criticizes his misguided approach to his so-called “One Pittsfield” tagline faces RETRIBUTION.
HINT: It is all still “business as usual” in Pittsfield politics under Mayor Peter Marchetti’s administration. Nothing has changed! He is a phony. If you believe him, then you would believe that if one pasted wings on pigs then they could fly.
Please oppose Mayor Peter Marchetti and vote out the failed elected officials like him to change Pittsfield for the better – if that is even possible at this point in time.
Jon Melle
JM ,
Another idea – reaching out to the working poor -underclass to explain to them how their vote perpetuates their
poverty.
JM, one question for you. This is based on your post above.
How would you propose paying for “putting a roof over their heads,” plan?
To put in context, I recently chatted with a retired police officer. They told me they responded to an elderly lady’s house once for a disturbance call outside of her window.
When they get there and talk to the elderly lady, they notice her house is barren of modern day (household) goods. Only a small black and white TV (around mid/late 1990’s) and cheap lawn furniture was all she had in her living room.
Why you ask?
Her drug addicted son stole and sold everything she owned to buy drugs.
She kicked him out and he might have been found later that night and sent to trip and fall school for stealing from HIS MOM-allegedly.
These are a lot of the “houseless” you advocate for JM. Think about it beyond a talking point.
From a friend:
Here’s a modern parable. There was an elderly woman living in the small house on Oak Street had a big heart and loved cats. She loved cats so much that she took in every stray who came to her door. The elderly woman had limited financial means, so nearly every penny was spent feeding her beloved kitties. The felines began having kittens so there were many more mouths to feed. The elderly woman had to use her meager savings to care for more and more cats. Her money ran out and she could no longer feed the hundreds of cats in her house. She couldn’t afford to feed herself or even clean her house. Her house was destroyed by cats that tore up the furniture and relieved themselves inside her house. It became a pestilence in the neighborhood and was condemned and torn down by city authorities. The elderly woman was a good hearted person, but now had to rely on the government to sustain her own life. The woman’s cats were removed to the local animal shelter. Some were adopted, but the ones too sick or vicious or had to be euthanized. The elderly woman’s love for cats overwhelmed her common sense and her own survival instinct. She died a pauper, unable to help herself or any more of her beloved cats. But she was a good
hearted person..
I’m not sure why the racist, heterophobic agist can decide what flag can be flown. The Federal any said only their flags can be flown. This is all political and neither of these groups are inclusive, They resemble the Nazi’s of the 20’s and 30’s in Germany if you ask my opinion….can you still have a different opinion in the land of b’s, w’s, l’s, g’s and t’s???
Dan, Recent news about Larry Bossidy is of interest to all of us. You and I have often discussed Larry and his accomplishments and his friendship to us. This is a huge loss to our area as well as the entire country.
Im very sure the Trump and Epstien we lovers
The town is full of Liberal Dip Shits. The poster here The school committee is a Shining example. They all managed to turn a blind eye to inflation, open borders, high crime and a mannequin that was rolled out as President. This town is in the passing lane headed for Bankruptcy being driven by the Rainbow Brigade. The 11 Lefties on the Council along with our Cultural Plan loving Loony Mayor have made it very hard on some people to keep their properties. They have no respect for the elderly. They have total respect for druggies + booze hounds that don’t seem too interested in working for a living. The population in this town does not support 11 council members. We do not need ideologues running City Government. We need a Town Manager who is paid for results. The Mayor has more assistants than any mayor had from the 50’s to the 80’s.Time too stop worrying about some homeless guy from Boston, Springfield, Albany etc. The business people left on North St should not have to beg to improve the conditions hampering their businesses. Tax payers should be the #1 concern They are the heart that keeps this shit hole from total collapse.
The left celebrates this nonsense in the same way that many in the crowd celebrated the emperor’s beautiful invisible clothing. Until enough sane individuals call them out, their nonsense will
continue.
They care more about their pronouns than they do about you keeping your property.
A Pittsfield resident who was described as rude or insulting to the School Committee called Dr. Bill Cameron for the 6th time and said that she would request to fly the Confederate Flag in all of the Pittsfield’s schools if the flag policy vote was approved. She told the “Synthetic” Chair of the Pittsfield School Committee that failure to fly the Confederate Flag in all of the Pittsfield schools would be discrimination against white people.

Bitchfield culture……..they already closed all the ” easy” the stores in Springfield and Albany, so the shoplifters have to carpool and drive 40 miles to get to Bitchfield to steal.
They know they’ll never get prosecuted, and if arrested then released with no bail, they’ll never to be seen in the Berkshires again…….until the next road trip to pillage and pilfer.
Lets build a baseball stadium because an old Yankee played at that location 90 years ago.Now thats Trump dumb.Who thinks Epstien and Trump were lovers and pedos
That’s cute Trap
Does it mean F off sc L
EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) — President Donald Trump played golf Saturday at his course on Scotland’s coast while protesters around the country took to the streets to decry his visit and accuse United Kingdom leaders of pandering to the American.
Other demonstrators held signs of pictures with Trump and Jeffrey Epstein as the fervor over files in the case has increasingly frustrated the president.
In the view of Mark Gorman, 63, of Edinburgh, “the vast majority of Scots have this sort of feeling about Trump that, even though he has Scottish roots, he’s a disgrace.” Gorman, who works in advertising, said he came out “because I have deep disdain for Donald Trump and everything that he stands for.”
Gorman who?
Don’t worry Scotland, the natives are being replaced by 3rd world Muslims and Blacks.
Yeah I think Boomer played there.
Electric rates are increasing on August 01st, 2025….
Healthcare insurance rates are increasing between 7 percent to 12 percent….
U.S. inflation is increasing by close to 3 percent…
That means that the 2-Pete’s Pittsfield politics better get ready to increase city spending on:
the Wahconah Park boondoggle,
the new public school building boondoggle,
the North Street redesign boondoggle,
and all of their other boondoggles.
It will be spend, spend, spend….until the common Pittsfield taxpayers have no more money for themselves.
Pittsfield’s fiscal year 2026 operating budget is over $62 million more than Westfield’s. Both small cities are similar in size, but Pittsfield’s appetite for spending taxpayer dollars is even bigger than Mayor Peter Marchetti’s big beer belly.
Wahconah Park is being renovated with lakefront mosquito flooded parking lot for an existing existing 28 million. Boondoggle?
Rat poison has increased also.was 14 now 26. Carr Hardware rat x.
Only in the City of Bitchfield. A dog owner gets shot because his dog pees on a lawn. Yet the City Administration allows houseless folks to pee and poop in the doorways and sidewalks of businesses on North Street. The panhandlers can just stand on the median strips and just relieve themselves, in their pants like the woman on East and First Street. She can even puff on a cigarette while soiling herself. Where does she get the money for the cigs?
The owner should be fined. Do you think if your pet took a crap on Sherwood Drive or Stonehenge Road for instance ,the cops wouldn’t be there in a nano-second? On side streets like Onota or Second Street. It’s the norm.
I’m sure the shooting was justified.
