BITCHFIELD’s ‘DILEMMA OF THE DESTITUTE’

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY JULY 9, 2025) — In the recent debate that has official Pittsfield tied in donned knots, THE PLANET has noticed how so many referr to the “houseless.” Perhaps it’s part of Peter White syntactical delusion of “houselessness.”

When you have more than one word for seemingly similar things, there’s a difference. You can walk, amble, traipse, march, skip, glide, saunter, stagger, and more, and each will describe difference forms of ambulatory conveyance. Another example: nostalgic is not the same as wistful. Another example: Misapplying “structural” as an adjective to dress up ignorance.

So what gives with “homeless” vs. “houselessness?”

THE PLANET suggests that it’s part of penchant for loon liberals to co-opt meaning by their unilateral redefining of common terms–“diversity, equity, and inclusion,” for instance, which they take to mean “uniformity, discrimination, and exclusion.”

Looking closer at “homeless/houseless,” we find the two root words: home v. house.

“Home,” as poet Robert Frost wrote, is the place where when you go there, they’ve got to take you in. Home implies a relationship between people, usually family and friends. It’s a place where you belong. It has the ring of care, compassion, and welcome. “House,” on the other hand, indicates a physical structure and little else. A couple purchases a “house” that they then convert to a “home,” assuming they proceed with love. With “houselessness,” there’s little relationship in buildings–low cost housing, shelters–built on desperation and anonymity. It not only wastes taxpayers money but produces buildings with horrible Feng shui. That reality centers Bitchfield’s dilemma of the destitute.

———- ooo ———-

Downtown business owners squared off against homeless advocates at a recent meeting of the council’s ordinance and rules committee. They talked AT not TO each other, but there’s one thing everyone agrees upon. The homeless crisis–an umbrella terms encompassing those without shelter, the mentally ill, vagrants, addicts, and assorted others who have fallen through the cracks, some because of crack–indicates a breakdown, one that’s getting worse. Add to the problem is the presence of a growing number of scum. There’s no other word. They infect the system and the city and ignore their own humanity.

Pittsfield latest “houseless” shelter, right smack in the middle of downtown.

“Houseless” advocates point to a societal breakdown, wanting to blame capitalism or heartlessness of “the haves.” What truth the claim has is mitigated, however, by the matter of individual choice.

At some point in a life, people must grow up and take responsibility for themselves … or not. Do I stay in school or do I party? Do I follow the crowd to irresponsibility or do I stand on my own two feet? Do I let a troubled upbringing and choices made by others destroy my adult life? Do I drink to excess or take drugs or decide against it? Do I play the victim or do I rise above circumstances. If I’m addicted, do I make a free-will choice to kick it? If I’m able to work, do I have a job?

Bad choices lead to bad lives. Simple as that.

And not as simple as that.

———- ooo ———-

Both sides in the debate on homelessness seem to be acting with the presumption that there is An Answer.

There is no Answer.

City officials–Mayor Lumpy, the council, the school department, and socohlxlwdl committee–have shrunk  like a $25 suit left out in the rain. The mayor called his ordinance a “communication starter.” You can’t get more milk-sopped.  Help, Help Me Rhonda Serre Sucker dithered and dathered in a kiddie’s pool of cliches. Not one official took a stand, one way or the other, leaving the issue twisting in a gale. Michael Hitchcock, co-director of Roots & Dreams and Mustard Seeds, made the most cogent of the night: the “community conversation cannot take place in three-minute increments.” Three minutes, though, is all Lumpy, Voltron, and the rest of the idiots will allow.

At first, I thought you wrote “No Class,” and were talking about Bitchfield Mayor Lumpy, CC Prez Wimpy White, Tricia Farley-Country Buffet (d-illegal aliens), and former Picklefield mayor Linda “Flat” Tyer-Clairmont, but then I read it again.

Speaking of Flat and TFCB, how come those two are never interviewed by the press about the “houseless” problem? They basically created this current mess with “grant money,” during COVID to take on these bums from the Boston area and beyond.

They – the Mayor Openly Gay, former Mayor Gated Community, Rep. TFCB, Voltron, and so on – certainly do NOT lead by example in their pseudo-support for the homeless and panhandlers residents of Pittsfield!

Matters keep getting WORSE! They keep cashing-in on their public pay plus perks.

Over the weekend I attended two 4th parties , similar stories at both. One was a business owner that had a stack of job applications in his car and would drive up to the intersection and offer to start the next day. No experience needed the would be using a shovel. The other was similar but the interesting part of the first person’s story was a different twist. This is all hearsay so it may or may not be true but there is a van that drops these intersection beggars off in the morning and picks them up in the afternoon to collect a fee of what they take in. Both persons had similar advise to offer the Mayor and councilors that passing an ordinance wouldn’t work. But, I do like the starting a conversation idea, It’s just that the conversation was started 20 years ago.

Reality is the federal money that came to states has now been transferred to the disgusting billionaires instead of the American people who work for slave wages, those facts must be understood before the collaspe of city and town budgets.Get ready berkshire towns as you are going to fail. The towns have zero wiggle room to deal with whats coming after the 2026 elections.Pittsfield has never had the smarts to be able to identify the tornado about to hit.Pittsfield leader will still invest 30 million in a shitty baseball field nobody care about never mind the floods.

Donald Trump and Project 2025:

Throw the poor people off of the cliff.

Feed the working poor people to the Wolves.

Slap a sales tax disguised as tariffs on imported products that will economically harm the middle-class and small businesses.

Let the poor students starve so they cannot learn at their Level 5, Group 11 public schools.

Re tariffs: we called the dependency on cheap imports to make low income expectations ‘work’ with no exports (foreign trade partners tariffing us at 100% rates) the Race To The Bottom. It looks like you won the race.

During Covid shipping breakdown, the world’s trade traffic was stuck parked hundreds of miles off US ports. All incoming, not much going out. Lesson: if we can’t make anything, we better learn how.

TSC, we know you never let a fact or facts get in the way of your liberal agenda, but the only states that need to worry about losing federal funding, are the blue states and cities that continue to offer “sanctuary status” to illegal aliens.

President Trump took illegal aliens off Medicaid, so now states like MA and CA, can pay for their medical expenses. That includes Bitchfield too.

MA, speaking of illegals getting kicked off Medicaid.
The vast majority of the people who are being tossed off of Medicaid fall into two broad groups: illegal aliens and working-age men who refuse to get a job, get an education, or even volunteer at least 20 hours a week doing something useful. Rag Media and democrats just keep mentioning millions will lose Medicaid with out mentioning exactly who is losing it and why. I think the money saved should go to fund even more care for vets, elderly, the truly
disabled etc..

Marchetti, just like that Tyer character, will continue to drain what little they can still find from the senior population which is much needed for both their pensions and to subsidize the millionaire class business community.

Pete White, whose job it is to balance out an imbalanced mayoral agenda, has been compromised. Like, since before he got the position. Do not hold your breath waiting for him to stand up for the people as he promised when he mumbled the oath. He was just joking when he recited that.

Property taxes are another thing. State governments, particularly in blue states, use them for “public services” with expanded meaning such as “community programs.” The biggest ripoff is failing public schools. Taxes rarely if ever go down, particulary under Democrat rule. We pay a lot of money to buy and keep up a property, but it’s never really ours since it can be confiscated for not paying the yearly “rent” called property taxes.

When the state lottery first came out it ran into opposition. So they sold it as a means to reduce property taxes, in fact, saying it may ELIMINATE property taxes, and the expected revenue would provide all school funding statewide going forward.

Fast forward 50 years and we see the state lottery taking in billions more than they ever imagined in their wildest dreams. But strangely enough, taxpayer contributions to school funding were never lowered and in fact went up exponentially, a 180 degree opposite result of how this lottery was rolled out..Imagine that. Did they lie or did local politicians see it as a way to increase their budgets with all kinds of goodies that were never seen as necessary before? Maybe both? But either way it is a scandal of epic proportions.

Unaudited black holes are a vehicle used to drain taxpayers of their money with no accountability. After all it is for the children.

The same children who are not entitled to an open honest accounting of potential dangers in their schools or painted crosswalks for their personal safety.

I don’t remember exactly, but we were told that $$ raised through the lottery would go into a specific account for what you mentioned, but I think they put the money into general funds so they could get their hands on it to spend as they saw fit.

If you painted the railings on your porch because the paint was peeling that is considered an improvement and justifys the auditor to upgrade the value of your home. I am afraid to mow my lawn for fear someone from the city will drive by and report that my property has been improved and upgraded.

Everyone in the city should view a copy of their property report to make sure the city is not taxing them for a swimming pool or monster deck they do not have. Guarantee some of you will find you are being taxed for improvements you do not have. Is that 50 year old rusty metal shed in your back yard really worth 20,000?

One of the social service providers said at the meeting last Monday night that she was piloting the biggest indignity to our poor people, a pilot program in which she would compensate the labor of people in the homeless shelter but only with a gift card.
Gift cards exacerbate poverty.
When you give a poor person a gift card they have no liquidity and no option to diversify.
So if you want to put five bucks in a card for somebody in your family who’s graduating or has a birthday you can’t do that.
You can’t make sure your kid has a couple of bucks in their pocket when they’re hanging out with their friends.
And most importantly you can’t peel off 5 or 10 dollars and start a savings account and start building towards your future.
All of your assets are on that one piece of plastic so if you lose it you’re screwed.
People have been standing around town holding signs for years telling us exactly what they need—cash.
That we continually withhold, stigmatize, and shame people because they don’t have a cash flow is incredibly cruel.
As for our homeless, some of them have been the victims of a bait and switch so many times that they are refusing work because they don’t want to be locked into something like a gift card, and there is no guarantee that the guy who pulls up in the van in the morning and says I have work for you today is going to pay you in folding money, or even pay you at all.
Many people I know who receive gift cards when that balance gets down to around a dollar they just discard it.
Who gets that unspent money? The corporation that issued the gift card gets it, and if you think it’s just nickels and dimes let’s do a thought experiment:
Let’s say everybody in Pittsfield, that’s about 40,000 people, is holding a gift card with a balance of 99 cents on it, and oh whatever reason or no reason at all is not inclined to carry around that to plastic that is now worth more as a piece of plastic than as a financial instrument and let’s that 99 cents go what’s 40,000 * 99?
That ain’t chump change.
Obviously the example I give your I’m giving really for simplicity stage because the likelihood of an entire town etc etc but you see the point I’m trying to make here is that the gift card companies that are already established financial institutions charge your feet to activate those cards and then reabsorb any unused if money is left on them because they can’t be rolled over.
Now imagine if our and homeless friends and neighbors were paid with a check (which is difficult for some people because they don’t have IDs)or with cash.
How much of this money would stay here in our community and hopefully eventually become part of our tax base.
Gift card programs are just another way of shaming and stigmatizing poor people and keeping them silent because what do you have to bitch about; you got some money.
But you really don’t.
The idea that poor people cannot manage money is utterly ridiculous
The amount of money we manage over the course of a month and remember, the poor people month is only 18 to 22 days long because there’s always more month than money, it’s not something to be ignored.
Maybe you’ve seen signs around town this time of year in the store windows are by the registers that say we will not accept sock money for bra money.
Sock money and bra money is one way that poor people protect their assets so that everything is not in one place like it is on a gift card.
It is how poor people diversify to protect their assets. So if the cash falls out of your bra or somebody snatches the money you have in your purse or pull out of your pocket, you are not completely bereft of funds.
Clearly there’s no guarantee that eradicating gift card programs we’ll have an immediate and noticeable impact on local and regional economies but it would be interesting to try gift card versus non-giftcard programs and the impact on local economies over 5 years because I believe the positive financial impact would be significant.
So many people are going to have reasons why we should continue giving poor people gift cards but the question we should be asking ourselves in attempting to answer here is not how to justify continuing gift card programs but what happens if we don’t discontinue them?
More of the same I fear.

Have you noticed the tens of thousands of dollars the mayor has invested in planters, bushes, trees and flowers to beautify his city?

And have you noticed that some of the crosswalks have not been painted in years? Check out Seymour street. Had a woman walk out in front of me a couple of days ago and I just shook my head. Until I noticed there was actually an almost unseeable crosswalk she was walking in. Seymour street has many of these. the whole city does.

The city talks a big talk when someone gets hit by a ca and wants to spend millions to restructure a roadway. But for whatever reason, painting crosswalks is very low on their safety agenda. Why is that? Seriously. Why is that Pete White? Could you maybe take a few grand from the flower account and paint some crosswalks so that maybe one less kid gets hit?

Those flowers are there so they are handy if someone does get hit. It is quicker to put up a memorial if your flowers are right on sight. Its actually genius by the city.

I often say that everyone is right about the “homeless” .The estimates are that Pittsfield has about 350 people who are labeled “homeless”. This group is no doubt composed of people with mental disabilities, drug addiction and those who don’t have the skills to work. I don’t know the split but characterizing it one way or the other without facts is simple ideology. Those who think that they are lazy parasites who refuse to work are as probably as correct as those who say that they are unfortunate people caught by unpredictable trauma. The homeless I know are combinations of both.

So what to do about them? Do everything. Put up homeless shelters that are tolerant centers of compassion and pass laws outlawing camping and panhandling with real penalties. For the mentally disabled give them services in places that they are forced to go. We used to have mental hospitals where people were cared for. They are gone and should come back.

None of the elites live in inner-city Pittsfield, which is an economically distressed downtown over-reliant on social services agencies.

Where are the targeted assistance programs in Pittsfield?

Penalties only make matters worse for the Underclass residents.

Like you, I grew up in Pittsfield. Like you, I studied economics and finance.

The answer is simple: Put a roof over the heads of the homeless residents who live in Pittsfield.

JM, seeing how you don’t work and contribute to paying taxes to help fund these projects, how about you start donating your monthly government check to help pay for these projects? Sound like a plan.

After giving up your monthly check, would you trust Mayor Lumpy, CC Prez Wimpy White, or Linda “Flat” Tyer-Clairmont, to spend your monthly check appropriately?

If the answer is no, then welcome to our world. You know, the ones who fund your “roof over their heads projects.”

There are programs for the “houseless.”

They could clean up, get sober, and use the programs, much like you could work.

*THEY CHOOSE not to do this and/or go to the programs, much like YOU CHOOSE not to work.

You can’t force people to clean-up and get sober or take psych meds, any more than people on the Planet can force you to seek employment or become part of the MAGA movement.

Welcome to Reality 101.

CT is correct – we used to have mental institutions. Now all the mentally ill are out on the streets. They need to be cared for in a safe environment where they can’t harm others.

Way off mr. Fritz. The state got rid of m I because of cost, abuse, and was just not feasible. New meds and psych outpatient care replaced the former. Which was costly in many ways.

For a blue state we seem to have horrible services for the mentally ill. I believe the most an individual can be held for psychiatric treatment is 72 hours. Then where are they supposed to go when released? Oftentimes the person they were living with doesn’t want them back. Some end up in jail. Other states seem to have better programs in place for dealing with such individuals.

So, I went to the city’s website today to check the calendar to see if the council was meeting tonight. But I was redirected to its brand new site (which all and all is an improvement) However, it has one glaring omission-No meeting calendar for Boards and Commissions. How convenient!! So, now if an issue of importance to you is referred to committee or you want to be at the next Board of Health meeting, you will have no clue when that meeting is taking place. What a genius idea to keep all of your detractors and the “No need to know citizens” quiet. In fact, could this be an Open Meeting violation? Probably not if schedules are posted elsewhere. But it should raise questions.

Not celebrated yesterday was the launch of the new website for the City of Bitchfield.

I took a look at the jobs available and what Bitchfield was looking for in their potential job applicants.

Does Bitchfield value the best qualified candidate to get the best bang for the taxpayer’s buck? Or do the still value discriminatory hiring practices, that has proven over time to be a colossal failure?

*Does Da Dancin’ Dean, ring any bells?

I took this directly from their website. I’ll let you be the judge:

“We strongly encourage people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ community, and other people from other unrepresented groups to apply…..”

Jobs | Pittsfield, MA

Federal EEOC laws already on the books cover hiring practices. Why aren’t Veterans included on this list?

**Can anyone tell me who or what exactly, would fit the category of “other unrepresented groups?”

Does it give “guys” like Wimpy White the OK to show up to their city job interview wearing his Chewbacca costume and claim “Wookie” as his race?

Dear Clowncilor Noto. If a container of alcohol is open. Then it doesn’t matter if it’s sealed or not. Police should be able to enforce any open container that has been opened. Period.

Re: Pittsfield had already investigated PHS allegations prior to the $156,000 taxpayer-funded law firm’s investigation

Hello blogger Dan Valenti,

Please listen to the following online radio news story:

https://www.wamc.org/news/2025-07-09/pittsfield-city-council-approves-new-open-container-law-giving-police-more-enforcement-authority-over-public-drinking

Pittsfield had already investigated the Pittsfield High School (PHS) allegations prior to the $156,000 taxpayer-funded law firm’s investigation.

What purpose did the law firm’s investigation really serve if Pittsfield had already conducted the investigations at PHS?

Is the cover-up(s) worse than the alleged crimes that were found to be unsustained in the secret legal report?

I request that you please write and publish a blog post about this matter.

Best wishes,

Jonathan A. Melle

It appears there are certain things the general public will never be allowed to see no matter who is in power…the Epstein client list, the PHS scandal report, the JFK assassination, what the government knows about UFOs, Covid “vaccine” injuries, and many secret government programs involving experiments on humans. The “ secret tapes in Baltimore” guy may have been a victim of that.

EXTRATERRESTIALS did visit Earth. Unfortunately they got here too late 7 billion ravenous humans. They were last seen next to bean sprouts, red chilis and baby corn at Very Yum Yum Wok. Their craft is very useful for dispensing soy sauce and it conveniently floats where you leave it.

Dan You censored my post on ET. Dammit.

It’s hard to type these out on this tiny keypad one stupid character at a time.

Are you suppressing the truth about human nature and appetites and Chinese restaurants? I refer you to Spielberg Vs DOD et al, 1977, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Freedom of Speech which as we know Spielberg won. Truth always wins -you can’t bar its progress.

I really hate to change the subject, but feel it must be discussed. I would like Mr. Valenti to start a “Only in Pittsfield” segment to his extraordinary Blog. I would like to be the first. Only in Pittsfield would you demolish a Historic Baseball grandstand, one of the few remaining wooden grandstands in the United States. In return you get what every other small City in America has a concrete and modernized structure with corporate seating. In return you get to spend 30 Million and no affiliated baseball teams. The real kick in the nuts is they are actually calling it a renovation. Wahconah Grandstands can be preserved, steel can be replaced, stop lying to the public. Historic Commission should stop them in their tracks now!
