PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION OCT. 3-5, 2025) — THE PLANET brings to mind an idle discussion we witnessed today, left and right talking AT and not TO each other.

The details matter little. What struck us is the illogic we saw on display. Not only is the English language still in a bad way (Orwell) and getting worse, but people’s ability to make and support an argument seems to have gone the way of the single-wing formation.

Head scratching is allowed.

———- ooo ———-

“Everything we call real is made up of things that cannot be regarded as real” — Niels Bohr

Language unites speaker and listener, writer and reader. Content provides the direct link to the speaker’s and writer’s thoughts. We call this conceptual mystery “communication.”

As studied as communication is, we still don’t know how or why it works. On his 94th birthday, the great linguist Noam Chomsky asked what he wanted. He said he wanted to know how language works. After a lifetime of groundbreaking work, he still didn’t know.

Logic and reason are the core feedstocks of communication. No one “invented” logic, but we can see the beginnings of reasoning with the emergence of civilization.

Human gatherings in larger communities produced growing infrastructure and administrative pressures that in turn forced new modes of thinking. How could we convey abstract concepts in areas such as government, technology, science, philosophy, and religion? The answer turned out to be those strung links in chains of thought that came to be called logic.

Medieval apocrypha tells us that Parmenides of Elea, a Greek philosopher, invented logic while living on a stone in Egypt. He lived next door to Peter Arlos. In the 5th c. BCE, Parmenides “authored a difficult metaphysical poem that earned him a reputation as early Greek philosophy’s most profound and challenging thinker.” The poem, lengthy fragments of which have survived, describes an allegorical journey a poet makes to the home of a goddess (not Dina Lampiasi), where he learns about justice.

———- ooo ———-

The goddess tells the traveler  he needs to learn about daily reality “and the notion of mortals” but since such knowledge can’t be trusted, she advises an exploration of the underlying “ways of inquiry” necessary for learning about the truth of existence, from the ways of living creatures on earth to the working of the universe itself.

She utters this strange sentence: “It is necessary to say and to think that What Is is; for it is to be, but nothing it is not.”

This is the pre-Socratic principle of acceptance,  the perceptions of things not as we wish them to be but as they are—“What Is is.” Moreover, “it is to be,” the acknowledgement  of people, objects, and things as imminent and not as emergent. If we can understand this stark, hard reality, then we can reject all that such being “is not,” which amounts to “ nothing.”

This implies the reality of a conceptual existence, the truth of which can only lead to recognition and understanding. That is the birth of logic.

FROM SECTION XIX of Parmenides’ poem:

Thus, according to men’s opinions, did things come into
being, and thus they are now. In time (they think) they will
grow up and pass away. To each of these things men have
assigned a fixed name.

THE PLANET thinks, “If only politicians thought this way.”

———- ooo ———-

To everything on earth and in the universe we have given words. The great advance in and of language echoes  John 1:1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Later, in John 1:14, we have “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

There are many ways to interpret this passage. The English “Word” comes from the Greek “Logos,” an expression “understood as the rational principle that governs the universe and gives meaning creation.” It also forms the root word for “logic.”

The irony lies in the fact that we have lost the ability to engage in rational conversations about politics. A pity,  since conversation grappling represents a key marker, a milestone, in human intellectual development. We have allowed extreme politics to set us back, not move us forward.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

————————————————————–

A clown, a circus. A soldier, a war. That’s logic, isn’t it?” — Murray Matheson in “Five Characters in Search of an Exit” from Rod Serling’s TV series, The Twilight Zone.

“OPEN THE WINDOW, AUNT MILLIE.”

LOVE TO ALL.

A big part of the problem of not being able to talk rationally about politics is the media. I watched somebody reading the news on their smartphone the other day and their face was contorted with anger. The media wants to divide Americans. Article after article on social media is about President Trump. 95% of it isn’t even true, but the media takes advantage of free speech to keep pushing their lies. Americans should get away from 24/7 news coverage as a first step toward regaining the ability for rational thought.

Take a look at the Eagle’s editorial cartoon they used. It depicts a MAGA solider dressed up in Nazi attire pointing a firearm in the face of a brown colored mother holding a baby, demanding “Show me your papers.”

I don’t remember seeing a cartoon of DEI Specialist Da Dancin’ Dean, Lavonte Wiggins, lurking in the background of PHS with bags of cocaine, needles, and straws, waiting to try and sell cocaine to a couple of finely dressed white male students heading to a STEM class with Da Dancin’ Dean telling them, “This will make you higher than a clouds.”

Or what about a cartoon depicting disgraced Principal Alison Sheppard with her legs spread wide open and only wearing a skimpy mini skirt with the implications she has no underwear on, talking to her students of color, who are seated on the ground getting a bird’s eye view of Sheppard’s Pie, with her asking the students, “Is it really true the darker the berry, the sweeter the treat?”

Remember though, democRATS want to “cool the political temperature.” This pic really “cooled the temperature,” alright.

I have noticed in past decades that what the progressive media pushes is what the average American believes. Most Americans are either too busy making a living or are too lazy to get the facts first and THEN make a decision.

Dan, to further on your post, I found an excellent post on Instagram that talks how the democRATS have been completely brainwashed with TDS, beginning in 2020.

It’s about 2 minutes long and explains in great detail.

If you watch this video, think about TSC, Marxist Melle, and Meanwhile and all his other screen names, and how this video fits them like a glove.

The democRAT party of today:

*Crime Over Safety
*Illegals Over Americans
*War Over Peace
*Defend HAMAS (Meanwhile has numerous posts on here defending HAMAS)

I wonder what was worse: Marx’s vision of Communism or the Founding Fathers arguing for Classical Liberalism while at the same time, they owned SLAVES?

What hypocrisy!

Don’t call me a “brother,” Commie.

I watched as your hero, failed Gov Maura Healey kicked out US Veterans out of housing in favor of illegal aliens.

She helped facilitate the illegal alien invasion that your heroes: Autopen (Xiden), Kamala, Bathhouse Barry, Big Mike, Andy Nuciforo, Smitty Pignatelli, Pete Marchetti, Peter White, and the MA Illegal Aliens State Representative, Tricia Farley-Country Buffet (d-illegal aliens), cheered on. You know Comrade, democRATS. The same party YOU VOTE FOR!!

Healey tossing a few hundred thousand towards Veterans after she spent BILLIONS of US tax dollars on ILLEGAL ALIENS.

Only imbeciles like you Marxist Melle rationalize this as acceptable. I’m sure if you lost your gubermint monthly check in favor of illegal aliens you’d be crying about your “veteran status” and how you “earned it.”

Disagree, post your reenlistment code on your DD-214 and it’ll tell me about the honorability of your discharge you always post you earned.

Prove it Comrade Melle.

So Mayor Lumpy wants North Street merchants to provide him with videos of the issues they are having with the houseless creating havoc. How insulting to the merchants! What does the Mayor not believe what merchants have been telling him? Merchants have already shared videos on local websites. Mayor Lumpy has stated before that he does not like Facebook and local websites. Suggest he give it another try. He needs to catch up with the rest of us.

I also suggest that Mayor Lumpy ask Bowtie Kerwood for a couple hundred dollars from the over bloated City budget and purchase a police scanner for his office. He then can ask the Whole City Council to come to his cushy office and listen to the scanner for even one hour and listen to the calls for folks causing disturbances on North Street only. Our police department spends their day and evenings there. That is why the rest of the City is unprotected and traffic rules no longer exist. Maybe Bowtie Kerwood will even give Mayor Lumpy enough money to serve tea and crumpets to the City Councilors.

Stop all the Stupidity!

He just wants to get some “citizen imput” that he can cherry pick, have printed in the media and show why he needs to spend a gazillion taxpayer dollars to fix something. And then suggest this is what the people wanted. “The people”. He himself does not want to spend all that money BUT, see here, this is what the people want. Says so right here in the paper. The merchants need this now and I know it will cost a ton of money but they need it. If it were up to me I would not do it but they need it. Now.

I find it absolutely insulting that he’s asking residents to do the jobs that should be handled by city staff and law enforcement. That’s not civic engagement — that’s deflection of responsibility.

The city’s money is clearly being mismanaged. The so-called “money guy” doesn’t seem to realize that funneling $700,000 into businesses does nothing to stop people from losing their homes or sleeping on the sidewalks outside those same storefronts. That $700K could easily support a new community safety and outreach initiative — a dedicated team that includes trained community officers, social workers, mental-health professionals, and medical personnel working together to build relationships, respond compassionately, and actually help stabilize lives.

And as for Derby — all he seems to do is follow around and exploit vulnerable residents online, particularly those with special needs, before parading himself around town like a celebrity in his popsicle truck. If he truly wanted to make a difference, he’d be downtown alongside that kind of multidisciplinary team — with his comfort dog, social workers, and mental-health aids — doing something that actually helps people instead of performing for attention.

Not quite true. You should rewrite that and state:

“We used to……Now, if a person disagrees with a democRAT or their Communist ideology, then they are assassinated (Charlie Kirk), shot at (2 attempted assassination attempts on President Trump), deemed and labeled racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, misogynistic, assaulted by ANTIFA, and have their family’s information doxed on social media to create terror and fear for them, just to name a few things the left specializes in.”
