PLANET VALENTI News and Commentary

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, TUESDAY, DEC. 16, 2014) — When Mayor Dan Bianchi began the arduous task of trying to sell — who, exactly, since it was a Done Deal? — the questionable move of transporting city hall offices to 100 North St., he used as an example of permitting the innumerable film production companies stampeding into Pittsfield looking to remake Citizen Kane and Spartacus.

The mayor’s remark about Pittsfield as the New Hollywood brought guffaws, smirks, and ridicule. ACtually, there are no A-list (or B- or C-) film companies wanting a part of Pittsfield. THE PLANET knows you’re shocked … shocked. Perhaps he was thinking of DV-TV Productions, which used city hall itself as our studio when we filmed Beauty and The Generalissimo in the city clerk’s office.

THE PLANET couldn’t resist the celluloid invitation, of course, and we went to work, obtaining on-the-sly from city permitting sources the list of films that producers were looking to make in and about the City of Pittsfield. We first shared this list on PLANET VALENTI TELEVISION, to the usual hoots and hollers.

After hearing about the difficulties and confusion that permit-seekers have run into after 100Gate (it appears the move made the permit process more difficult and confusing), we need to share the secret list  with PLANET readers and viewers.

Here is the list of films companies wanted to make in Pittsfield:

* Gone With the Windbags

* Town Without Pity

* Raging Bull(shit)

* Casabianchi

* One Flew Over the Cronies Nest

* The Wizard of Fraud

* It’s a Blunderful Life

* Midnight Cryboy

* The Stench Connection

* Raiders of the Lost Pork

* Bianchi on the Bounty

* Withering Heights (documentary of 100 N. St.)

* Bianchi Doodle Dandy

* 100 North St.: A Space Idiocy

* A Clockwork Connell

* Treasure of Sierra Mazzeo

* Live in Concert: Jethro Tully

* Full Metal Jackoff

* Caccamo Shack

* The Buddy Snatchers

* A Fistful of Dollars

* Abbott and Costello Meet Morandi

* Dr. J-LO and Mr. Hide

* Krol and Kroller

* Simonelli of the Baskervilles

* Barry Me Not at Wounded Knee

* Where Did You Come From, Where Did You Go, Cotton-Eyed Church?

* Bewitched, Bothered, and Bianchi

* Maybe I’m Amusoed

Look for updates come Oscar time.

The Mayoral Long and Short List

Speaking of lists, if you look at recent Pittsfield mayoral history — say, from the early ’80s and onward — you find an eclectic grouping of individuals with a kaleidoscopic range of backgrounds and professions. The earlier we venture into the historical list, the more we find “Individuals” who brought a unique stamp of style and personality onto the office. Once we hit the early ’90s, we individualism replaced by a corporate mentality influenced by a cabal THE PLANET refers to as The Suits. Other names for the cabal include The GOB, The Vested Interests, and The Special Interests, and — simply — “Them

With that in mind, here’s the long, gray line:

Late 1970s-1980s

Paul Brindle, occupation, bar and grille owner.

Charlie Smith, occupation, construction workers.

Anne Wotjkowski, college professor.

1990s

Ed Reilly, lawyer.

Gerry Doyle, employee of gas company.

2000s

Sara Hathaway, legislative aide and policy wonk.

Jimmy Ruberto, private-sector CEO.

Dan Bianchi, salesman.

——– 000 ——–

If Dan Valenti were to run for mayor, for which some have clamored, we would have a writer and artist. If Craig Gaetani runs for mayor, for which some are clamoring, we would have a scientist and physicist. Both men would be intelligent NON-politicians sans agenda, out of the reach and control of The Suits.

As of this writing, that’s the type of candidate who represents the best chance for Pittsfield to turn around a “politics as usual” death march leading the city inevitably, inexorably toward financial ruin via uncontrolled government spending, rising debt obligations, a falling population, a minimum-wage service economy, and a shrinking tax base. Lame, tame “game” players afraid of confrontation and hurting people’s “feelings” won’t cut it.

—————————————————————————————————-

 “Instant pleasure, all around. Let love be your treasure, all around. / Yeah, instant healing all around. Trust your feelings, all around. / Hooray for you, you live in a zoo! Hooray for me! I am free!”Mick Valenti, “Instant Pleasure,” from his album Beatlesque, (2011).

“OPEN THE WINDOW, AUNT MILLIE.”

LOVE TO ALL.

Indeed the city needs a storm trooper type mayor. Someone who will turn a blind eye to the special interests. One who has the mentality of a Chris Christie without the mafia connections. Someone with compassion for the citizens instead of treating them like a piggy bank.

When Bianchi and his handlers look at the people walking in the street he does not see fathers and mothers but rather stick figures with dollar signs for heads. While people like him have the power the citizens have little chance of enjoying the fruits of their labor, because the king wants too big a share.

There’s a Bug Stench in the Sewers of Pittsfield. It’s infused by Mayor Dan Bianchi and his Ball- less cronies. THE Worst Mayor of all time.

There needs to be an Undercover Boss conducted by the planet at 100 North Street pretending to navigate the system by the Generalissimo. That would be awesome!!!!!

Pittsfield politics needs to change! Dan Valenti would cut spending, which wold mean reduced public services and deferred costs into the future. Dan Bianchi would increase annual spending by around 5 percent plus a new multi-million dollar capital budget. Either way, Pittsfield loses once again.

Cutting spending means cutting wages which means that every municipal employee and family member will vote a different direction. No way a candidate wins in Pittsfield on a fiscally conservative platform. Book it.

If we can’t take responsibility for ourselves and for our failures then who do we show gratitude to for our success?

Also how do you hold politicians accountable for not living up to campaign promises when they run unopposed?

Anyone who really cares about pittsfiekd should go downtown once a week and patronize a local small business. I’m going to start doing it this week and ask that others do it as well. Since I know the Bianchi admin reads this I’m demanding they do it as well if they’re not already. I guess we can count the move to 100 north st but it would be nice if they’d open thier wallets and use thier own money to make some purchases.

I don’t feel people have a ‘duty’ to shop specific stores – stores have a duty to give people a reason to come. But….

There are a good half dozen downtown that I will not do without. Asian food market, Maria’s, Abbey Cutters, British food store, Carr, a number of restaurants, Beacon, Restore off W Hous, Shoe Medic, Ord. Bicycles. and more.

No police are needed for me, but after dark is for the birds.

I wonder how many people who read this site either live near 01201.

Charles my point is if you want to revitalize downtown then patronize the businesses downtown. Even if it means paying extra. Otherwise all anyone is doing is just bitching. I think local govt has already proven they’re going to use our money for downtown one way or another.

Mr. Valenti,

How could you?
How could you so quickly forget the name of the all-time champion Klepto-crat from Pittsfield, that former top official in the Jimmy Carter White House, that former honcho in the Democrat National Committee, that wunderkind former youngest Mayor in Pittsfield history, the one and only Evan Dobelle, the now former president of BOTH UHawaii (Paradise Lost!) AND Westfield State University (Purgatory Found).
Dobelle is probably the only college president in U.S. history to be given the boot by not one, but TWO universities, for actions in office that grand juries usually find to be indictable offenses including embezzlement and fraud.
And to think, Evan’s rising star started shining in Pittsfield!

Glen I cut this from his wiki bio the last couple sentences gave me a chuckle.

“Evan Samuel Dobelle (born April 22, 1945)[1] is a retired public official and higher-education administrator, is known for promoting higher-education investment in the Creative Economy,[2] public-private partnerships and the “College Ready” model that helps students graduate from high school and college.[3] He has also gained a national reputation for his frequent financial indiscretions, including billing the institutions at which he works for lavish personal expenses.”

Dobelle’s fellow narcissist, Barack Hussein Obama, is no doubt considering placing Evan Dobelle’s name into nomination for the presidency of the World Bank.
What better Democrat is so well-suited to shepherd the Obama style of governance inside this international organization.

Scott a downtown business is no more important then one on Tyler or Elm. If they have what I need at the price that is right, I will be there customer. Also since there already using my tax dollars for downtown, I feel I’ve already given enough.

Yes how could I for get Tyler or elm st. Shop those businesses too! I’m sure there’s others. Carr hardware or derringers is more expensive than Home Depot but I use them anyways. But that’s the point then are you saying let downtown fail and stop using tax dollars in an attempt to revitalize it? I thought this was about Pittsfield and saving the city? The politicians can use all the tax dollars they want if people refuse to shop local it’s going to fail. I understand for some people paying a little more isn’t an option. Heck I buy stuff online and out of town. I do my best to keep my money local.

I really could give a rats ass about downtown. Also throwing money at it will not make or break it. There will always be ebs and flows with the economy and consumers spending habits. A good example is the Lenox shops, once bustling, then a ghost town. Now it appears to be making a comeback, with good mix of retail and no government hand outs.

How come the BB never makes mention of North Adam’s native Paul Babeu?

This headline and lead-in from Breitbart:

‘Az Sheriff Babeu: Obama Executive Order Could Give As Many As 20 Million Amnesty’
“Monday on Fox News’ “Your World With Neil Cavuto,” Pinal County, Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu (R) said as many as 20 million illegal immigrants will qualify for President Obama’s deferred action, according to a memo from Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson.”

the 4.7 million that was spent on refurbishing the Common could have been used for a rather spiffy homeless shelter. But at least the homeless can get under that canopy and stay dry when it rains. So there is that

Dusty, instead of spending 4.7 million on one park, (Deval Porktric Memorial) the Common. How about spreading it out among our 30+ parks, that are in need of some TLC.

Thank you Mr. Heller and the Planet I think , ( just my opinion) that the Eagle is getting more and more lazy as time goes on. Look at the stories Carr Hardware, ribbon cutting at the new and improved Common. If it wasn’t for the Planet and iBerkshires the reporters would have to pen a real story and talk to real people work leads and tips to master their so called craft.

I know money isn’t worth what it used to be but 4.7 million for the “upgrades” to the park. I would love to know where the millions really went. Imagine if we used all of this money to address the real problems in this city instead of cosmetic fixes. This is not how the Founding Fathers intended government to be run.
