PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION NOV. 1-3, 2019) — Let’s get this out of the way first. The needless and “snowflake” cancellation of Halloween by mayor Linda Tyer has led to a parental reaction that has been “vibrant and dynamic.” They howled to us, among themselves, and on social media on this bizarre move. “Nail in the coffin” time for Tyer is how one critic put it. We don’t know, but it won’t surprise us that as of 8:01 p.m. Tuesday night, Linda Tyer won’t be seen. She will be wearing her Halloween costume … as the Invisible Woman.

Next, THE PLANET has noticed in these late stages of the campaign how nervous and defensive Team Tyer has gotten. Simple example: When Roberta Mucolluch Dews sent the press announcement that the mayor would receive a a union endorsement later than night (Oct. 29), we asked from what union. Dews replied: “Sorry Dan, we plan to share this big news tonight.” Funny thing was, we already knew it was the Teamsters. We told Dews that we already knew, and that we were merely trying to officially confirm. Small thing, right? Yes, but a more open, less uptight campaign would have no problem sharing the info.

EXAMPLE 2: More Serious. THE PLANET was asked by producer Dave Bubriski to host a PCTV debate between Tyer and Mazzeo. Melissa immediately accepted, agreeing to our rules of engagement. Those of you who have seem one of our debates, you know the PLANET format — no notes permitted, no podiums or desks to hide behind, no clock; just the two candidates in chairs facing each other and the roving moderator (us) with a hand-held mic, giving the third degree. Linda hemmed, hawed, hiccuped, and harbored. When she finally got back to us, she refused, citing a too-busy calendar or some other hooey We suspect stage fright at he prospect of sitting in Valenti’s Hot Seat. “Pull-Out” Tyer didn’t want to face a relentless (but respectful) moderator demanding accountability. Mazzeo, on the other hand, knowing she would also get the business, welcomed the chance.

EXAMPLE 3: Most Damaging. Tyer may have blown the campaign with this one. As part of our campaign coverage, THE PLANET has been in regular touch with both Team Tyer and Team Mazzeo. This communication has included invitations to keep us in a two-way loop of communication.

On Sept 20 or thereabouts, Linda Tyer contacted us asking if we’d be interested in her penning a guest column. We said yes. it was a great idea. Tyer agreed and got to work, at one point (Sept. 24) asking about length, saying she was up to 1,500 words. Was it too long? No, we answered. We also invited Melissa Mazzeo to write a piece for THE PLANET. Several days went by. We didn’t hear a word from the mayor. Needing to plan our news budget, we asked Tyer when she would get the finished draft to us. She then got back to us with this:

———- ooo ———-

Good Morning Dan:

After a long and sometimes heated debate with my team and other respected core supporters this past week about how we’re going to roll out our campaign I have decided not to send a guest column at this time.  Thank you, as always, for offering space on the Planet.

Linda

———- ooo ———-

She didn’t explain the sudden reversal beyond the cop-out of blaming staff.  We offered our view that her campaign just made a huge mistake. Later, we repeated the invitation. Nothing. As we said, Mazzeo accepted our invitation to write a guest column. THE PLANET presents it here.

———- ooo ———-

By Melissa Mazzeo

Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?

The answer is no.

Mayor Tyer made a whole bunch of promises 4 years ago, a list of which I have provided The Planet. And, with all the promises made, so few were kept and in some cases situations, conditions have deteriorated. Now it is time for change. I am running for Mayor because I love Pittsfield and that includes those who serve us in the roles of police, fire, teachers, and city workers. And out of that love comes a need to support areas that are greatly faltering under the current administration’s leadership.

Public Safety:

Let’s face facts. Our city doesn’t just feel more dangerous, it is more dangerous. For the mayor to recently state during a radio interview that crime has stabilized is absolutely absurd and untrue. And she is NOW touting partnering with other law enforcement in applying for federal resources to help the city….FOUR YEARS INTO HER TERM?  Where we are right now is not because of our phenomenal officers…this is a lack of work from our leadership. Leaders direct resources to where they are needed most. As your mayor I will direct resources to stop this alarming trend of rising crime. Areas with high crime will have more police activity in a style called Hot Spot Policing. Any investments in crime fighting technology will have outcome performance measures to ensure they are working.

Our officers work so hard but in my discussions with officers they are frustrated and it is directed, in part, at the lack of support from the District Attorney. And I understand their frustrations. To work hard only to have your worked erased time and time again is unacceptable. While I don’t have any control over the courts- nor should I- I refuse to stand by while the tireless work of our officers gets pushed away.

Education:

We have unparalleled educators in the Pittsfield Public Schools. However, our schools are in need of help. Is this the teachers fault?  No. Throughout my run for mayor, I have met with so many teachers and learned of their real and growing challenges. Why are we burdening our educators when the most important job is teaching our children? In fact, teachers feel so taxed in Pittsfield that they are leaving in record numbers: over 100 teachers left the district last year. Of those who left, one-quarter were retirees meaning over 75 went to teach for other districts. For the 2019/20 school year the School Department hired 65 teachers on provisional licenses (meaning not fully licensed as the candidate lacks professional teacher training) as Pittsfield could not attract enough licensed teachers.

As Mayor I will create a Cabinet of Teachers. We will meet regularly with central school administration in order to identify what is working and what needs to be improved or changed. I will also encourage the school committee members to become active participants in the school. Far too often we only see city dignitaries at schools for ceremonies. As your Mayor, which in turn will make me a member of the School Committee, I will be regularly involved in the schools to ensure we are doing everything possible for Pittsfield’s youth. I will also advocate on behalf of teachers to end the culture of leniency that has been created in our schools.  Educators are taxed due to repeatedly dealing with chronic increased violent behaviors and have little support from the justice system.

MELISSA MAZZEO

Economic Development:

We know that we need to expand the number of livable wage jobs in Pittsfield and create opportunities for long-term careers.  As Mayor I will assemble a Small Business Roundtable to regularly meet in order to ensure City Hall is doing everything it can to meet their needs. 90% of businesses in Berkshire County are classified as Small Businesses (19 or fewer employees). Part of this includes ensuring that Taconic High School and Berkshire Community College graduates pursuing vocational careers are positioned well to fit into Pittsfield workforce BEFORE they leave school and my plan is to use GE Economic Development monies to do the very thing it was meant to do….create jobs.

As Mayor I will also address unfriendly business practices within the city. Although there is a Red Carpet Team within the current city administration with the focus of recruiting new businesses into Pittsfield, the innumerable existing businesses in the city regularly deal with permitting, zoning, outdated regulations, and bureaucratic red tape. Under a Mazzeo administration the City will address these practices head on.

City Services

We are in desperate need of road and sidewalk repair and that is why I worked so hard in having a part of the marijuana fees go toward these efforts.  However, there is another way we could better maintain our roads and sidewalks and that is by better managing the budget.  This past winter, a mild one, saw the salt and sand budget going over by $2.1 million. Unacceptable. As mayor I will have regular monthly, if not weekly in the winter, budget audit meetings with the DPU to ensure our money is being managed. Lastly, I want to discuss my unquestioned desire to reopen the wastewater treatment plant upgrade.  In recently hearing from our seniors who worry about giving up their homes because they won’t be able to pay the dramatic increases to their water/sewer bills is intolerable and unacceptable to me.

In conclusion, we are at a turning point. Pittsfield is an amazing place. It’s a place where my husband and I actively chose to keep our business. A place where I raised my family. A place where I have chosen to serve as a City Councilor. However, Pittsfield is also a place that needs immediate help and I don’t believe that makes me negative. Telling the truth is not negative…isn’t ignoring the challenges facing this city negative?  Under a Mazzeo administration we will tackle these issues head on. I will work hard day in and day out from my first day until my last.

HERE’S THE LIST TO WHICH MAZZEO REFERS

What Tyer Promised

  • More Crime Prevention

    • Hiring more police officers -Net gain of 6, although NEPR ran a story and they identified a net gain of 3

    •  Community policing- Promised to build a center in the west side..instead opened the West Side Resource Center in an existing bldg, with no police officer assigned to the center

    • Creating an Anti-Gang Unit- We have had this for years

    • Cure Violence Method- Detect & Interrupt potential issues

Identify & treat the highest risk

Mobilize community to change norms- Never did this

  • Job Attraction & Retention

    • Make site selection top priority through improving Pitts. Image-Where?

    • Give resources to homegrown businesses-Used funds set up by previous Admin.

    • Create a formal recruitment strategy for young professionals-Never happened

    • Expand access to all business parks and commercial centers-How?

    • Promote Pitts. as a welcoming destination for new businesses

      • Business mentoring program

    • Implementing better management and personnel practices in City Hall

      • More communication w/ City Council Members- Definitely not

  • Blight & Code Enforcement

    • “Transform Blight to Bright”

      • Buildings must have working windows & doors-Blight is still a very big problem, very little emphasis on this

    • Raise property values- Inflated property values and pretended to lower taxes

    • Promote housing investment plan- Rolled out an incomplete plan in her 4th year and has not continued to try to implement a program

    • Problem Properties Task-force “aggressively demanding” property owners respect public health & safety regulations.-No-many troubled properties still exist with no end in sight. Residents very frustrated

      • Create a registry of problem properties who can either work w/ police

    • Establish a community center in the West Side- Made a small space in an existing building, no police officer on site

    • Establish a Riverwalk-this started with Mayor Ruberto

  • Public Works

    • Better Garbage pickup at Burbank Park & Park Square-Many parks have trash issues

    • Revamping of The Common, Durant, Springside House

    • Creation of a dog park- Still in a design phase after years of studies

    • Remove snow & ice properly-cost $2.1M over budget this year alone)

    • Repair potholes right the first time-NO

    • Establish & follow a street improvement plan- Saw changes to streets that look good for election season

    • Only use existing money being wasted to fund new programs ( has raided the GE Dev Fund and forgave over $2.5M that should have been paid back)

  • Early Childhood Education

    • Work w/ School Department, Superintendent and local providers to give access to more 3-4 yrs old-NO

  • Budgets are strained & tax revenue is limited

  • Removal of Mayor from PEDA

What Tyer Takes Credit For

  • Laying the groundwork for and building the New Taconic High School- Brought to a vote and received funding under Mayor Bianchi

  •  Securing the funding and Building the Berkshire Innovation Center-Spoke against the BIC when she was running for Mayor, and refused to help close a funding gap when she first took office

  • Shannon Grants for preventing crime w/ at-risk youth-Community Connection Program -Mayor Bianchi secured this

  • Says that she saved St Mary’s church from the wrecking ball- Mayor Bianchi helped to save this site from a DD

  • Says she brought WayFair to Pittsfield- Wayfair CEO raised in Pittsfield and came here to a Gateway community to receive tax breaks from Boston oversaw by Charlie Baker. In fact in his own acceptance speech Baker said, “It didn’t take a lot to get them (Wayfair) here.”

———- ooo ———-

We thank Mazzeo for taking our offer seriously and presenting herself, in her own words, as she saw fit, in this space. The mayor had the same opportunity. It’s not about us. It’s about the electorate, We the People, Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski. Those are the people Tyer stiffed in copping out of the debate and the guest column. She let her “supporters” let their emotions get in the way of logic. THE PLANET does not respect the mayor’s refusal to debate in the only forum that would have been honest and legit, with actual news and content and a chance to see both candidates think at the spur of the moment. Neither do we respect her acceptance to write for us and then have her team talk her out of it.  This was one time where Tyer should have shown leadership and said, “Nope, I’m calling the shots,” but she didn’t. She decided on an embarrassing flip-flop.

Appearing in THE PLANET denotes the confidence of the writer and connotes fearlessness in engaging with the area’s most widely-read and closely followed electronic medium. Pulling out denotes uncertainty and connotes fear.

Well, guess what? The cost Tyer the election. She’s running scared, away from victory, and her handlers — rather, her bumblers — are behind her, pushing.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

Dan – Some of us read you very clearly. We know your message, we know your priorities, we know your biases. LT would be INSANE to agree to any sort of debate moderated by you. In my humble opinion.

Oh yea? Try fair and balanced my friend? She owes her mayoralship partially to her debate hosted by Dan against Bianchi last time around. Tough but fair, Dan was, and she survived, and did quite well actually. Now she’s chicken or her pepper masters won’t let her because she has a record to answer for.

Things are different this time around. Dan is now anything but fair and balanced. He relies on “scoops” from embittered cast-offs from previous administrations. Some of whom are horrible enough to work in law enforcement elsewhere, whilst try to sabotage Andrea Harington’s office by spreading misinformation. Pathetic. RK,KK, DP, BK,jS screw all of you.

As a dispassionate observer, I think Dan has bent over backwards to be fair to both candidates in this cycle. Surprisingly, Ms. Tyer seems to have adopted the same tactic some of her predecessors did; ignoring Dan, his column and his audience in Hope’s they will either go away or are too small and obtuse to worry about. Dan Bianchi did the same thing…and it did not work out so well. Not that Dan’s influence won the day for Tyer last time around. I just think it was symptomatic of bigger problems with the campaign and the candidate. Same applies this time.

DA Harrington is an abject , far left winged , failure, as a prosecuter , and head of Berkshire county criminal law enforcement.

Tyer’s support of Harrington is what is probably going to cost her. Even supporters from 4 years ago cannot believe how much of a failure the DA has been. Her trips out of the county hasn’t helped support. Unfortunately for Tyer, the two are linked.

As the infamous 5th Dentist you know the one from the popular gum commercial years ago you know the 4 out of 5 Dentists surveyed recommend sugarless gum for their patients that chew gum. Well I am the one who didn’t recommended the gum and I was the subject of scorn, ridicule and the butt of jokes my entire professional career, that is until very recently. Yes I was I the minority 4 out of 5 some 80% were onboard with recommending the dam gum. You see the problem was one of complacency. Just as was mentioned in the post above “She is more popular with her base then ever. According to multiple sources she is very popular with all the staff…” Being that skeptical 5th Dentist I ask just who qualifies as her base? Who are these multiple sources? I ask because of the 5th Dentist syndrome that I have borne my entire life. For example they beat us to death with that dam commercial but never mentioned who the other four Dentists were but they continually berated me as the 5th Dentist. Well upon further investigation it has recently been alleged that Dentist number one was none other than Dr. William Proctor yup air to the Proctor and Gamble fortune and P&G just happens to be one of the leading producers of glycerin the additive used in the making of that gum. Yes he advocated for the gum geez I wonder why. It has also been alleged that Dentist number two was the direct descendant to the English chemist Bell, recognized as the father of dental amalgam and who somehow profited off of each drop used. He too promoted the use of this concoction I’m very certain he was objective as well.
Now for the local connection it has been alleged that Dentist number three was none other than Dr. Michael Armitage. A one time resident of our fair city who it is alleged grew tired of the dental trade and the continuing battles within the dental community as to recommend gum or not. He left the great field of dentistry to pursue a career in the energy world, buses and batteries to be specific. The word in the federal penitentiary is he spends every last cent of his earnings from the prison laundry on nothing other than that dam gum he recommended.
Then there was the fourth of the approving dentists it is alleged that one Dentists with local ties to this community was a bit more sinister in his zest and zeal to promote the gum, yup he was well aware that the gum contained all sorts of chemical compounds and be they safe or not he would “build” a company that he could market as the leader in identifying genetic markers for those who would be predisposed to all sorts of disease’s and maladies like chewing gummititis and other such things. He was well aware that the funds from the gum promotion would probably be insufficient, but he knew he could count on the elected officials to hand over piles of monies. He just had to tell them “sources say my company will be all that and more…” he too is now chewing all of his gum under the watchful eye of uncle Sam.
So now I ask you if I the 5th Dentist the one who did not endorse the gum was as crazy as they initially painted or if maybe after all these years I have been vindicated? So I ask again who is this base and these sources. Should I believe them or look with my very own discerning eye and then exercise my right to vote?

Sincerely the cynical 5th Dentist

Clearly the mayor can’t made a decision on her own and Roberto won’t let her step into Dan’s ring for a real debate. Let’s face it, none of the other so called debates even come close. Mazzeo doesn’t have all the answers but Tyer has failed to deliver on her key campaign platform of 4 years ago and it’s time for another mayor. Just re-read The Berkshire Bird Cage editorials this year, and 4 years ago endorsing her. They hit her for being defensive and circling the wagons and 4 years later hit her again. She ain’t changin my friends. She’s a bought and sold GOBSIG. And they gave her a free pass on crime blaming it the ole it’s everywhere not just Pittsfield spiel because what else can they do ? She’s a failure on crime.

Has there been more or less violent crime under Tyer compared to Bianchi?

Way more, that’s why Camp Tyer is not giving any meaningful numbers.

4 years ago, violent crime was the incumbents fault. Now, it’s not the incumbents fault because other cities have a crime problem too and because now it’s civil services fault that police staffing can’t be increased. And besides Tyer is collaborating with other agencies and she is dynamic and vibrant. Seriously???????

She backed a “get em outta jail free card DA”. That alone should cost her the election. Why are so many cops leaving? Why can’t city increase number of positions to account for attrition? Why doesn’t mayor support using marijuana money for a new police station?

When Mazzeo says she will work hard from day one I believe her. I also believe that there is a reason that Tyer wont speak to us on the matter of the snow budget. Not truthfully budgeting for snow in New England is pure incompetence .A blue collar city needs a blue collar attitude of Mazzeo.Mayor Tyer just is not the right fit.We cant afford her lavish school spending and her supporters giveaways of cash. The current Mayor never once spoke about cutting budgets and that will lose her the election. She never made me feel not once that she was concerned about how people on fixed small incomes or hard working low wage jobs could pay the tax bill. Mazzeo like all good business people have to consolidate as even the churches did.Mayor Tyer is a spender always in search of a program to add to her list of accomplishments. Mazzeo cant tell the Schools how to spend their budget but she can ask what they are spending it on. She needs to sit with Superintendent of money Behnke as she knows where every penny is spent.Mayor Tyer needs to run in a more wealthy lcommunity.

TSC I think you make a good point about Pittsfield being a blue collar city. It would be great for the city to ‘invest’ in an HR infrastructure for the small businesses and their employees. I bet it’s hard to get health insurance and benefits to your employees and therefore hard to retain good people. I would love to see locals working together to help the economy that way. Maybe with incentives to all companies that fit a profile rather than pet projects. It takes a lot of hard work to run a small business and many people prefer to work for small companies too. I like what Mazzeo said about that aspect of the economy. Outside of hospitality I am thinking the heating companies, fence companies, small retailers. We should also reward bigger retailers like Big Y, who all accounts take good care of their employees too. Or so I have heard. Those people who know how to run a business have valuable contributions to make.

I think Tyer’s strategy of heavily campaigning on social media is showing its cracks of weakness. Like someone here pointed out, the majority of Mazzeo’s supporters are not arguing back and forth in Pittsfield 411. They have jobs and more intelligent ways to spend their time.
The “4moreyears” folks on FB are most likely reaching their max of community activism from the keypad of their phones. They won’t all vote.

Tyer’s team has realized this and now I am seeing her supporters try to campaign a “bring ten friends” effort to get committed voters to convince ten people they know to come with them and vote. Things are getting desperate. And let’s not forget that the mayor’s spokeswoman sits on social media all day (on the city dime) engaging with opposing voters. The whole thing reeks of desperation.

I think Tyer did the best she could with what she had. I voted for her first term. But to quote the guy Willie Nelson…

You’ve got to know
When to hold ’em,
Know when to fold ’em
Know when to walk away,
Know when to run…

It’s time to fold.

North County, a few years back, there was a long-time mayor that conducted most business behind closed doors. A smiley public face for his elderly constituents but was a bully to everyone else. Finally, a former city councilor, a man who was open to discussion, willing to put everything on the table, willing to take a second look at everything, beat the long-time mayor. He was succeeded by another mayor cut from the same cloth. This North County city is a way better place because of the last two mayors.

Ms. Mazzeo continues to demonstrate at all phases of this election campaign who she is. She’s not afraid to put all the cards on the table. Not afraid to say, “I’ll get back to you on that,” research if needed, and actually get back to you with a response. She’s been involved in running a successful business in a city that’s seen hard times and has managed to keep that business alive. She is cut from the same cloth as the last two mayors North County. Open to discussion, open to change, open to seeing if there’s a better way of doing things, doesn’t block critics on her Facebook page but instead engages. This is what Pittsfield needs if it really wants things to turn itself around.

FYI, I have been with both candidates socially and engaged with each of them. Both are decent people. But from my perspective, Ms. Mazzeo clearly is the better and most capable candidate for the office of mayor. She has a level of gravitas that is lacking in LInda, who sometimes gets this deer-in-a-headlights-look during a conversation. The fact that the Berkshire Eagle endorsed Tyer should serve as a warning to all that Tyer’s is a liberal la-la, loo-loo administration. Sorry Linda, but Melissa is the better choice.

And which business, exactly, has Mazzeo been involved in “That’s seen hard times and has managed to keep that business alive”? Correct us if we’re off-the-track slightly but my understanding is her hubby and brother-in-law deserve all your kind accolades, not candidate Mazzeo.

FYI: Mazzeo does indeed block facebook critics. In fact, prior to public outcry about her inclusive fb page, she finally was forced to change its privacy settings from private to ‘public’. And she’s as pretentious as the snot strolling up and down Rodeo Drive.

“For the 2019/20 school year the School Department hired 65 teachers on provisional licenses (meaning not fully licensed as the candidate lacks professional teacher training) as Pittsfield could not attract enough licensed teachers.”

OK, as I’ve said before you’d have to look into this more carefully. There are now four levels of “licensure,” which word still gives me nightmares.

“You do have your licensure? You must have your licensure? When did you get your licensure?”

Not, do you know anything? Do you have an actual degree in what you teach? Can you actually teach it?

But I digress.

From the Mass DOE site:

“There are four types of Academic PreK-12 licenses (temporary, provisional, initial, and professional). The type of license for which you should apply depends upon your educational background, experience, license(s) already held, whether you have taken and passed all required Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), whether you have completed any required performance assessments (ex. PAL), and whether you hold the Sheltered English Immersion Endorsements (SEI) (if applicable).”

I believe that “provisional” could certainly mean that the teacher has passed the MTEL and taken teacher ed courses–it is simply the first level, most likely for young(er) teachers just starting out.

“Initial” and “professional” mean that you’ve been around longer and have played the game I referenced before of PDPs/IDP (if that nomenclature is still used). That is, you’ve licked the butt of the EduElephant, but possibly actually learned something useful for your teaching in terms of content or pedagogy.

I’d worry if the district hired 65 teachers on a “temporary” licensure.

So these teachers appear to be licensed.

But, of course, for the host of reasons I have explicated previously, who can be attracted to teach here?

Maybe DOE can institute a certification in gang-bangers and window-jumpers.

I like Mazzeo saying that teachers are expected to deal with chronic increased violent behavior in the schools with little support from the justice system. She is referring to our District Attorney and the policy of ignoring certain crimes. Of allowing young people to get away with misbehavior because of the restorative justice belief that the brains of young people are not fully developed until they are 21 so they do not know the difference between right and wrong. This policy is bringing chaos to the school system which is why teachers are leaving in droves….75 teachers last year from the Pittsfield school system. That’s an unbelievable number.

Quid NO Quo

Ukraine got their money-for-nothing military aid. Trump/we got what, exactly? There was a big QUID but no QUO.

How many trillions of US taxpayer dollars have gone to foreign governments in the last century, say? And no US president ever asked for anything in return, for himself or his country?

Has anyone given you free cash, or you given to anyone else, without at least something in return? A thank-you, maybe?

So, what, we need to broadcast every conversation between the president and foreign leaders now? Let’s release the transcripts of every presidential call ever made.

BUT, Ukraine did get their $1 billion, AND Joe Biden got the prosecutor investigating his son’s Ukrainian company fired. All within six hours. Biden very efficient.

Now that’s what you call a QUID PRO QUO, y’all.

But Trump is trying to get to the bottom of the 2016 business, and it is perfectly legit to ask Ukraine, or any other country, to help us in finding out what exactly happened when members of the Obama administration/Justice Dept. tried to rig the election.

Dems got nothing here.

But I am glad to see the Congress do its job, however feebly, of fulfilling its constitutional function of checking the president.

They got nothing, but, actually, you don’t need anything to bring an article of impeachment.

Tired of the hyperbole on the Right too–“overturn an election” and the like.

Impeachment is in the damn US Constitution. It can be used at any time by the House, pretty much for any reason they want to make up.

But this special counsel/prosecutor circus . . .

“An impeachable [and convictable] offense is whatever half of the House and two-thirds of the Senate thinks it is.”

I’m just kinda wonderin’ where she’s been the last ten or so years; especially when she and Bianchi were holding the city mantle. And to think if Mazzeo, Connell, and Morandi were not such bi-weekly obstructionist what could have been . . . !

Pittsfield’s best interest has never been in Mazzeo’s best interest. You’re about to vote for the same old crew that was kicked out in 2015, by every Precinct and Ward in Pittsfield. Voters even found Pete Marchetti more worthy of the Council presidency than continuing with Melissa Mazzeo in the big chair (and to a larger extent, Dan Bianchi).

Mazzeo, Bowler, and Bianchi. The three hombres on life-support!!

P. S. A couple of years ago sitting in an exam chair during a wellness exam on Summer Street in Pittsfield. an attending nurse (or whatever her credential) expressed a belief that every time Sheriff Bowler and she came in contact with each other – Bowler would force a kiss upon her. She claimed this happened more often than not since her husband worked at the Cheshire correctional facility; thus, coming in contact with Bowler was not an infrequency. The only advice I could offer was going to Bowler and express how uncomfortable she felt with his intimate, unwanted advances. Coupled with what I witnessed in Pittsfield District Court this past Wednesday (i.e., his intimate embrace with a female court officer), her concerns now carry more weight!

How many thumbs down will this post generate? Ready. Set. Go.

Ten years and nothing. Go figure!

This contest is a clash between the ones who took away Bianchi’s and Mazzeo’s power (in 2015) and the Mazzeoians who now want it back. That’s it in a nutshell!

Get over this Mazzeo’s magical wand comes alive in January 2020. Taxes will increase; crime will continue on the uptick; life will roll on unabated, and Bowler will continue making unwanted and unwelcomed Biden advances on unsuspecting women. That’s all to a high degree of certainty!

And that’s the bottom-line!

How many underhanded, nasty schemes are in motion by Mazzeo, Bianchi, and Bowler? Too many to bitch about here!!

Those “Claws” you refer to, SallySays, have been exposed, and carefully sharpened, each year by Bianchi’s cohorts, ever since they went down in 2015; along with Mazzeo losing top vote-getter and her Council presidency. Adding insult to injury was their devastating loss to Andrea Harrington last year.

If Mazzeo loses, Bowler’s next!

As an outsider dragged into this drama, I hope Mazzeo loses every Ward and Precinct. Schadenfreude!!!

People should know when they’re conquered!

The mayor has made numerous mistakes during her term that could result in her not being re-elected.
1) North St. kiosks – Stores closing due to lack of business.
2) The proposed toter program – One size fits all.
3) Sand/salt budget (something really wrong here).
4) Knowledge of outrageous increase in our real estate taxes for 2020 due to Taconic HS and waste water treatment repairs.

But what will really kill the mayor is the $9,000 decrease in her home evaluation while everyone else’

Just received hopefully the last bull crap mailing from the Tyer camp. This one most certainly has the others beat! There is not one person listed as standing with Linda that has an ounce of integrity. Honestly I would be embarrassed to have them backing me if I was running for an office in Pittsfield. Ruberto, Doyle and Lee have not been sober for years. Ruberto did nothing for the City, Doyle just created a cancer filled mountain in the Allendale area and received many rides home from bars by the PPD, when they should have been protecting the City. Lee only was on the Council to increase his City pension. PeePee Peter, Dumpster Earl and Food Critic White are so far up Tyer’s butt they don’t even know where they are and Moon doesn’t know what her career is on any given day. Yon, Cutler, Amuso and Taylor have only made the Pittsfield School System a total wreck, wonder why McCanass wasn’t listed? Tricia Farley Bouvier Kennedy Onassis Warren has not done anything , I mean anything for Western Mass. Believe me many of the firefighters feel Tyer is useless. Shirley Edgerton created and received a cushy job with Tyer. Also wondering why Andrea Harrington is not listed, is the Tyer camp afraid they might lose votes? I also feel that the Tyer camp has run a very dirty campaign and it seems that many of her Tyer trolls do not have jobs (except Roberta McCullough Dews who the tax payers pay her salary) so they have the whole day to fight and twist any words that come out of Mazzeo’s mouth. Pittsfield is in the tank with violent crime, high taxes, population and job loss, scarce living wage jobs, economic inequality, poorly performing public schools, and Good Old Boys. The lovely ladies (Linda & Melissa) both answer to the same Democrat bosses. Jimmy Ruberto backs Linda Tyer; Dan Bianchi backs Melissa Mazzeo. It is just another version of Pittsfield politics that has been playing out over the past decades. Either way, the Democrat bosses win, while the proverbial Kapanski family loses.

Biden never had it gig. He’s been done for years, just doesn’t know it yet. I predicted months ago on here that Biden was toast. Be it his brain health, or simple stumblebumness, he just ain’t got it. Obama was a fool to pick him as VP. The stupid vp picks, from Sarah Palen, to Dan Quale, to Al Gore, never cease to amaze me. Oh, and lets not forget Paul Ryan. At least George W picked a competent VP

Hinds first vote was to raise his pay. Bouvier will tax anything that moves. Bouvier spends more time with the Mayor than her husband.

Hinds has an unusual interest in youth of a certain gender and age. It’s important to go back to his time at the UN and ask why he was removed so quickly from two postings. I can tell you it wasn’t because he was doing a great job and needed elsewhere.

My sources tell me that one of the main reasons Tyer ducked Dan’s debate was because she was terrified there might be questions about tax breaks she has given to and increased for special interest business s. She had to know that if the public ever found out how much they were subsidizing wealthy business owners they would revolt.

One of the Mayor’s latest ads says “Standing up for the taxpayers by REDUCING TAXES FOR SENORS”.

None of the seniors in my family or friends know what she’s talking about. Their taxes have only GONE UP!

Perhaps BARRY can explain this!

You are right, Spider, most seniors are packing their bags in anticipation of the tax tsunami that is expected to hit next year.
Would love to hear the current administration’s response to your question!

Barry has gone silent on us Kapanskis, for the election season, perhaps wisely, so don’t expect an explanation. As I posted earlier on this thread, and as I posted about all of the other cardboard, it’s a collection of dollhouse panels made up of mistruths, half truths, and outright lies. “This just in – a 6th campaign carboard glossy from Camp Tyer, with a fake photo, and full of lies, such as reducing taxes for seniors and making city safer. Blatant and unquestioned lies. And on the other side endorsement by the GOBSIGs, such as Beer Can Doyle and Ruberto, who campaigned on jobs and tax relief, and delivered neither. The cherry on top is a photo of her and Ruberto. Oh well, now my granddaughter can complete her dollhouse, and the cherry on top of the dollhouse will me Mazzeos smaller cardboard with a good does of truth on it, with a photos of a swat team making entry, talking about how crime is worse under Tyer, not better. Tyer lies.”

She claimed 30 more police on one of them, when we have a net gain of between 3 and 6. She claimed 300 jobs were coming this autumn by Wayfair, another outright lie. She proclaims she made city safer, when in fact crime is way worse, and she gave police millions more. Money, in and of itself, aint the answer my friends. Same for the school department. City has a spending problem under Tyer. City needs an intervention and an enema, among other things.

Anyone who would put a photo of themselves on these campaign cards, and billboards by the way, that is a complete and total misrepresentation of what the person actually looks like in real life, is obviously a fraud and a phoney, and disingenous, or a real life movie star. A little make up is one thing, a total phoney photo shopped makeover is another. It shows her disingenuousness, and follows the pattern of her words – misrepresentations of the truth.

It seems to be referring to the senior work program, which Barry came up with before Linda was mayor. Shows how thin her administration’s accomplishments are and what a puppet candidate she is that her husband includes his pet project in her campaign ad even though it makes no sense. Though I guess in his account book taxpayers owe him money and city jobs are his property

In regards to the school committee election, I know that you are a supporter of Bill Cameron, Dan. I take issue with his goals of increasing teacher salaries, consolidating the Berkshires into one school district, and hiring a more racially diverse teaching staff.

Teacher salaries are not out of line with surrounding communities. The teachers I know that have left the Pittsfield schools have done so due to the lack of discipline and lack of support by the administration. Kids who have verbally or physically abused teachers have been returned to the classroom the next day.

I do not support consolidation of area school districts. One size fits all approach is ill-advised and leads to consolidation of power, corruption and takes away local control. Different communities have differing educational needs. Lenox is the number one school in the county due in major part to solid, financially secure homes and focus on college prep. Pittsfield struggles with troubled youth from broken homes and high percentage of welfare dependent providers. Keep control local.

Where are statistics supporting the theory that a school’s teaching staff must reflect the race distribution of the students? Hiring on basis of skin color is pure racism.

I cannot vote for Cameron.

While I agree with Brazeau on bringing back life skills programming, I disagree with him that more support services are needed, county consolidation, and his thought that breakfast & lunch offerings should be expanded.
Back to consolidation – it just seems to me that taxes will most certainly increase as busing expands, schools are retrofitted, etc. And I thought that all kids already receive free meals.

Don’t all the candidates support those because they have no choice? A white person is simply not allowed to say that “people of color” should not be given preferences, and you can’t run for any office if you don’t say the teacher union should get more money. You’d be targeted by well-funded organizations that have power nationally not just locally, one person cannot stand against a mob, the fear is real and justified.

The last thing you ever need on a school committee is a former administrator, so Cameron is out. He’ll just rubber-stamp the top-heavy admin spending, and perhaps advocate for more useless administrators.

Here’s another reality check for you all:

As I mentioned before, Tyer had little to say about crime in her 2018 state of the city address halfway through her term, despite campaigning on crime. In fact, Pickleball got 4 mentions, while crime got, wait for it…. 0 mentions. Must be cuz crime was under control after two years of Tyer at the helm.

And she put out a mayors “quarterly newsletter”, in 2017, twice. No mention of crime there either. There are 12 quarters in 2017, 2018, and 2019, but only 2 quarterly newsletters, which are all fluff and no stuff anyway. Kind of reminds me of Rubertos’ lie about hosting quarterly neighborhood meetings. He was mayor 8 years, that’s 32 quarters, but he held 1 quarterly meeting.

Two peas in a pod.

Vote accordingly.

Where the hell were the lawyers representing the Rockwell Heirs concerning the contract written up before the B M attained the Art from Rockwell? It is incredible that some quasi board, like Jimmy skinny legs and Van from nowhere, can make a decision on behalf of the community concerning that sale. Rockwell must be turning over in his grave. No overseer should have that kind of power. This Van clown gave Helen Moon a campaign donation last election? I think it was the only one of two?

Why would Hinds leave an “Under Secretary Critical Designation” position with the U.N. and take at the time a one year Shannon Grant job under Mayor Bianchi for $30,000 with no bennies ? He’s not from Pittsfield, so its not love of hometown. Unless he was promised a political position in the future. His support of the Ruberto/Tyer regime is dollar wise logical considering his family ties to the favored, constant bid winning construction company, Maximilian.
