ROX UPEND COLONIALS, 13-6; FIVE-RUN 7th KEYS ROUT IN BROCTON

(BROCTON, Mass., GAME of SUNDAY, JULY 10, 2011) — The Pittsfield Colonials saw the Brocton Rox plate five seventh-inning runs as the Rox pulled away with a 13-6 victory.

Brockton would record the first runs of the game in the second inning on an RBI double from Ryan Royster and a run scoring hit by Dominic Ramos to take a 2-0 lead.

Pittsfield charged back in the top of the third inning when, with Matt Nandin on second, Johnny Welch singled to score Nandin and cut the lead to 2-1. Angel Molina followed with a single of his own to move Welch to third before Billy Mottram doubled to right-centerfield, plating Welch and Molina and put the Colonials up 3-2.

The Rox responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 3-3. Brockton would forge back in front on a double by Trey Hernandez in the bottom of the fourth that scored Ramos and Keith Brachold to put the Rox up 5-3. Brockton would add a run in the sixth on Hernandez second RBI double of the game to move ahead 6-3. The Rox put the game away in the seventh, sending 11 men to the plate while scoring five runs.

Pittsfield added a couple runs late as a double from Molina and an RBI groundout from Mottram helped to score three eighth inning runs. A Keith Brachold homer in the bottom of the inning plated the final run.

Freddy Flores (4-2) picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. Pat Moran (4-3) suffered the setback for Pittsfield.

Game two of the series comes up on Monday with MacKenzie King (1-1, 4.11) on the mound for Pittsfield against Julian Sampson (3-2, 3.02) taking the hill for Brockton. The pregame show on 89.7 WTBR FM will start at 6:45 in front of an anticipated 7:05 first pitch.
