PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

[Ed Note: THE PLANET is accepting nominees for out coveted Orbit Award. We shall make the announcement of our winner before Christmas. Last year, Charles Garivaltis took honors. Who will it be this time?]

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION DEC. 3-5, 2021) — THE PLANET concludes this first week of December with this frozen food for thought.

RICARDO SILENT ON TRAFFIC PROJECTS … or … RICKY Don’t LOSE THAT NUMBER

THE PLANET sought the city’s input on the traffic installations on Tyler (rotary), Elm (rerouting), and North strees. As you know, these projects have come under fire and aroused the near-unanimous ire of citizens across the city.

We sent the following message to Ricardo Morales, the city’s DPW honcho:

RICARDO
Happy December!

I’ve been getting a lot of comments, negative, about the roadwork done first on North Street (the plungers and the confusing lanes), Tyler Street (the roundabout), and most recently, the work on Elm Street at the curve near the hair salon.

I will be writing about these projects, and I want to give you and the city fair shake.

* Can you tell me what the strategy is behind each of these three projects?
* Why were they done?
* For what improvements?
* Do you think they are working at intended?
* Why do you think the public has been so reluctant to accept them?
* How much has each cost? What is the source of funding?

Please add anything you think will help explain these projects. My deadline is Thursday, 12/2 (tomorrow) at 7 p.m.
Thanks,
Cordially,
DAN

We were polite, respectful, and inquisitive. The last of those three proved too much for this department head! When the phone didn’t ring, we knew it was  Ricardo NOT getting back to us.

Tell us, what do you make of the city’s silence?

———- ooo ———-

IS PITTSFIELD AREA NEXT FOR MASS MURDER IN SCHOOLS?

The following is an excerpt of a story that ran Friday (12/2) on The Daily Beast. We present it here for the way it eerily reminds of the two exposes we did on the Pittsfield Public Schools and Richmond Consolidated School. Both stories referred to incidents similar to the ones reported in what follows.

The excerpt says that the most recent school mass murderer, a 15-year-old, had been seen on the day of the shootings. Administrators brought him in (with just staff and then with staff and parents) on the day  THE DAY OF and the day before the shooting. Why these meetings with the 15-year-old? Concern over “behavior in the classroom,” the school says.

What “behavior in the classroom.” Citizens need to know.

———- ooo ———-

FROM THE DAILY BEAST:

Authorities on Wednesday identified the teenage suspect in the mass shooting a day earlier at Michigan’s Oxford High School as 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley, painting a picture of a clear-eyed teen who planned and executed a rampage that left at least four students dead and seven others, a teacher among them, injured.

Crumbley, a sophomore, was previously flagged by administrators for “behavior in the classroom that they felt was concerning,” Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said Wednesday. He was called in to talk with school officials on Monday and Tuesday. Then, his parents were brought into the school the morning of the shooting for a face-to-face meeting about their son’s behavior, according to Bouchard. He wouldn’t say what the behavior was, and police weren’t informed about any potential issues prior to the tragic event.

———- ooo ———-

Sound familiar? It’s no secret that area schools are dealing with incredibly disrupted and troubled students. We also know that in this era of “restorative treatment” rather than effectively and appropriately dealing with the situation, such kids remain in the classroom. Not only do they escape punishment, extra services and accommodations actually reward the bad apples — all on the dime of Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski.

The good kids and high-achieving students are punished, and we’re not talking about grades. Disruptive students, whether they are psychotic or some dreamed-up version of Special Ed, do not belong in the same classroom as good students — kids who are there to apply themselves, respect authorities, follow the rules, learn, and thereby better themselves. To others? Do whatever you wish. Jail them. Put them on welfare for the rest of their lives. Shoot them. Just pretend everything’s OK, and when they reach graduation age, bring them back to the classroom for one day and give them a diploma. It will be the same as the U.S. treasury printing out a $1 bill.

It leads THE PLANET to  wonder about a question many are thinking but no one dares ask: “When will a Berkshire County School have to deal with a mass shooting by a student?” Is this a time bomb that’s ticking even as we write? Is it only a matter of time? And soon? Is the question valid or unreasonable?

We invite you to do two things:

  1. Go back and reread THE PLANET‘s previous articles about Pittsfield and Richmond schools.
  2. Carefully consider the reprinted Beast excerpt.

We advise all students, teachers, staff, and administrators be on the lookout for clues. It might be there in plain sight.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

When making a right from east to elm the cars coming up elm that are headed to east st. tend to crossover the center line and drift into the oncoming traffic.

Perhaps a nice row or two of toilet plungers might help? Could you call someone? Do not ask to speak to any adults in the traffic department because there are none in charge anymore. Someone is trying to melt the city down into an unrecognizable plastic blob.

There are many emotionally disturbed and troubled school children throughout our country. There are also many guns in the wrong hands in our country. It is not a good combination, obviously, given all of the tragic school shootings over the past couple of decades.

When such a child or young adult has social problems, they are rewarded, while a child or young adult who is a model student, they have to sacrifice and pay for their success. For example, if a teenage girl or young woman gets pregnant and has a child, she is given a free apartment, free healthcare, free food, and so on. However, if a teenage girl or young woman is a model student and takes her life seriously, she will have around $100,000 in student loans with no guarantee of a rewarding career when she is an adult.

On another subject, the Ghislaine Maxwell federal trial by jury should include the rich and powerful men who allegedly sexually abused and exploited 14-year-old sex trafficked girls being charged, too. The public has a right to know who these rich and famous men are. For example, former U.S. President Bill Clinton had 26 flight logs on Jeffrey Epstein’s private jet. Did Bill Clinton allegedly sexually abuse and exploit allegedly sex trafficked 14-year-old girls who are associated with Epstein and Maxwell?

Tying it all together, we have many thousands of emotionally disturbed and troubled school children, too many guns in the wrong hands, and an ongoing sex trafficking trial where it is alleged that Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell and rich and powerful men sexually abused and exploited 14-year-old girls. We live in a f*ck*d up society!

And the reason for your citing that misleading statistic is to baselessly argue that blacks are somehow more violent than whites.

Murder is primarily driven by poverty and inequality. Compare the poverty rate between blacks and whites and you have your answer.

I thought I’d chime in here as your France correspondent.

Josephine Baker entered the Pantheon Tuesday–well, not her remains themselves, which remain in Monaco, but you get the idea.

The casket contains dirt from St. Louis, Paris, Chateau Milandes (which looks like an awesome place and spot), and Monaco.

I was among the crowd that evening near the barrier at rue Soufflot and rue Saint-Jacques.

Not bad for the poor black girl from St. Louis.

Amazing life.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llmZWGmI2dE

Ceremony begins at about 44:00. I was about 50 feet or so behind the men’s choir in the street when they sang the traditional Resistance song “Le Chant des Partisans” to kick things off.

Macron’s speech began, “Heroine de guerre, combattante . . .”

To the right of and just across the street from the Pantheon as you look at the front is the Bibliotheque Sainte-Genevieve, where I have a reader’s card. Not the Athenaeum, but it’ll have to do.

Dan, in reference to Rickety Crickets, no answer is an answer.

In reference to school shootings in Pittsfield – school shootings are at a record high according to Washington Post, and I think the stage is set, nationally and locally. I sure hope they go down but they are likely to rise, for many of the same reasons murder are through the roof nationally – failure to enforce the law and a hands off, kit gloves approach until it’s too late.

I think they have been exacerbated by the government shutting down schools unnecessarily, resulting in isolation and de socialization of kids as well as removing cops from schools in the name of “Justice”. There are more guns than people in America. There are more problem kids than ever, with shitty, and/or absent tee parents, who are given a computer as a pacifier, with more time to use it during shutdown, and add violent computer video games into the mix, which means simulated mass killings with guns, and blood and guts all over, on a daily basis. It’s all a recipe for disaster.

Absent cops in schools and mental detectors, you won’t stop school shootings. And separate from school resources officers, whether a school or a sporting event, if you don’t have armed guards, you don’t have security.

The first school shooting that had an impact on me was the May 4, 1970 Kent State massacre. It had more of an affect on me than the JFK assassination. Every year as it gets closer to May 4, the horror of that day is on my mind, more so than when the anniversary of the horror of November 22, 1963 comes around. The next shooting that resulted in death, was not a school shooting, but a domestic violence shooting/murder in 1972 and much closer to home. This one involved a husband shooting and killing his wife. I’ll always remember that that shooting and killing didn’t surprise me one bit. As if there was anyone in the neighborhood that wasn’t aware of the volatile domestic violence in that normal average home. On a brighter side, when I was growing up almost every home in the neighborhood had guns, and I’d describe most homes in my suburban neighborhood as harmoniously dysfunctional. There were the normal suburban things like infidelity, alcoholism and husbands beating their wives, and wives beating their husband, and of course, one, or both of them, beating their kids. Just happy normal dysfunctional suburban families. Shooting and murdering your wife, the mother of your children, did deviated slightly from the normal suburban life.

What is going on with city streets and what else do they have in store for us? The Elm St debacle continues to be more dangerous as one of your contributors stated, cars heading towards East St have to cross the yellow line so they don’t hit the barrels and curb that are sticking out into the road. I find it crazy that when there was a grocery store located there nobody had an issue with the way the road was constructed. I was upset with North St, I don’t know why but I thought they would have taken my idea to make the bike lane a snowmobile lane. It would have been easy to do, just plow the street and sidewalk snow into the unused lane with plungers. I still haven’t pushed myself to try the rotary maybe this week I will feel brave enough to attempt. According to the leaders I have chatted with the road construction/changes are attempting to make the streets safer, when I question them about this seeing how I haven’t had issues until their “fixes” they have the blank deer in headlights stare!

Three times that I went through the rotary cars coming around were doing so very fast. They seemed to think that because they had the right of way they could do so as fast as they wanted to. So I feel like if I see a car even entering the roundabout from the opposite direction I better stop lest it be upon me in a split second, severing my vehicle in two and dislocating my neck with the air bag explosion.

Word to the wise. Be careful entering the roundabout because the same nutcases cutting you off in traffic or running red lights are whipping through there like they are the only people whose lives matter.

There were cookouts and picnics, and dinner was served on the table at 5pm everyday. And you had to eat everything on your plate, or you weren’t going out to play unsupervised until the street lights came on, unsupervised play which usually lasted long after the street lights came on. Guns and ammunition were not secured. Unless you consider security guns displayed on a gun rack hanging over the sofa or displayed in the unlocked GLASS gun cabinet secure. There were some BB gun incidences that resulted in minor flesh wounds, but no one died. And almost everyone was a bully, except for the one kid in my class who was always eating the school paste. I wonder if short bus gimpy white is related to him. To the best of my knowledge almost everyone survived their normal dysfunctional suburban childhood despite easy access to weapons of mass destruction, none of the kids went on a murderous rampage. Some of the normal childhood traumas make me laugh when I reminisce about them now. One of the worst is a Christmas one. It was bad at the time, but over time it became a perennial favorite of mine. I now consider it a holiday classic in the vein of a nightmare before Christmas.

Well you cant charge an administration but you charge the person who let little Johnny go back to class that day, without at least searching him and his belongings. He left a drawing on teachers desk with a handgun, BULLET holes, and suicidal statements, was taken to principals office, treated with kindness, and sent back to class. But we all know that can’t happen here right Joe C?

“LAPD Officers Arrest 14 Suspects in Connection with ‘Smash-and-Grab’ Robberies – But Release All of Them because of Zero Bail Policy”
“The suspects arrested are accused of stealing $340,000 of merchandise from luxury retailers.
All of the suspects were released from jail because of a Democrat-imposed ‘no bail’ policy.

LA Police Chief Michel Moore said all suspects either bailed out (low bail) or met the zero bail criteria – one suspect was a juvenile.”

The parents of the Michigan school shooter have been charged and face 15 years for their recklessness.
Should a school shooting occur here I believe prosecution should be moved to another county. This is because Andrea Harrington has broken the whole process of how an effective prosecutor’s office works. The outcome of the Catalano murder this week is just the latest instance. It’s a perfect example of how the DA has signaled to the defense bar that it will not go to trial on a messy case. Harrington does not seem to grasp that a district attorney is able to gain a plea because the defense knows the DA will go to trial. If you charge a defendant you must believe he is guilty and have the evidence to prove it so you should go ahead and prove it. Pleading to a lesser charge such as this week’s second- degree plea for an intentional homicide with video evidence signal once again that this DA and her staff are afraid to go to trial. The defense is lording it over them. The prosecution repeatedly can’t get witnesses on board and or get the investigation team to close the loopholes. They don’t know where victims are and they can’t seem to do anything more than deal with the case police have given them. This is because they do not know how. They simply do not have the ability to do the job.

I will not accuse police of racism. I will assign lawyers with experience so embezzlers don’t go free. I won’t advocate for the “decarceration” of addicts so they OD and die. Yes they did, mostly because Jim Ruberto told them to. Ironic since this excuse for a DA would have turned his brother, former DA Anthony Ruberto’s stomach. Jim Ruberto had it out for David Capeless because David wouldn’t endorse him for Mayor. This is before it became commonplace for elected officials to endorse others. Of course this excuse for a DA endorses people from here to Boston and everywhere else. Seems to me if you are going to endorse someone it should at least be someone you can vote for. Someone should explain those rules to her also. Whoever becomes the next DA is going to have a huge mess to clean up.

The tragedy of the latest episode of school violence, is that it was like parkland 100% avoidable.
Obviously someone saw something and said something.

Why no one monitored the perpetrator, or at least searched him for weapons-as there was more than adequate probable cause to support the infringement of the child’s civil rights.

An once of prevention is better than a pound of cure. The cure for this type of preventable tragedy, is intervention- not wait and see.

Obviously the child was crying out for help, why was it not provided?
Why was proactive prevention ie search not performed?
Why did parents not prevent the child for having access to the gun? Denial? It’s understandable to protect your offspring, which the parents failed to do?

These perpetrators need to be studied, debriefed and plans and policies developed to stem further preventable carnage.

Not every child has capable parents, this boy went from community caretaker to criminal in a matter of months, how ?

Americas children are our greatest renewable resource, it’s long past due to start preserving them.

Obviously public schools are failing on every level, the insanity is we fail to object and become vocal about this most important issue – and when parents do become active the teachers unions attack them and paint them as terrorists.

The easiest way to protect your treasure is private and charter schools , who can accept or deny entry of troubled students. But the money spent by teachers unions on lobbyists corrupts the process, insuring the status quo remains unchanged.

America sold out our children’s future to the unions, police, teachers public works etc.

Get off the bench , and get in the game.

Sadly I have to agree that it’s not if but when a incident with a firearm will happen. There have been incidences through the years with students having guns on them or throwing them in the garbage before entering school. It has been decades since school shootings started and what has been done in Pittsfield to protect the students? Have schools been reinvented and redesigned to promote a healthier, safer learning environment? Or are they stuck with the 1900’s model of education? Glad to see our School Committee worrying about their health and shortening the meeting times. Will they meet more or take less pay? Will they discuss safer schools and implement a plan or wait for an incident to happen?

True with what JM tells us about social service alley, the offspring end up in schools here in Pittsfield. It is well known that the people who live off social services come to Massachusetts because of the benefits they can get. Unfortunately the government hasn’t realized that then the schools need the resources as well to handle the children. These children need more not less. But that is only part of the issue. The break down in societal norms would be number one in my book.

This current COVID surge at Berkshire Medical Center is not like the last one in November of 2020 according to this article. The doctors at BMC are touting the monoclonal antibodies as the best treatment for COVID as long as the treatment is administered soon after getting the virus so the virus doesn’t begin replicating out of control. Vaccines are still advised, but even the vaccinated may need the antibodies if they get COVID. Biden didn’t even mention the effectiveness of the antibodies until several months ago when he was trying to ration them across the country even though there was never a shortage. He was doing it for political reasons to show he was all about equity. We knew in early October of 2020 how well the monoclonal antibodies worked after President Trump was cured of COVID the day after taking the treatment, but a politically motivated medical system in this country made sure the antibodies were not available to the general public until late November of 2020, after the presidential election.

Even if you get COVID or the flu after getting those vaccines, your symptoms should be mild. The COVID vaccine doesn’t prevent infection, but keeps away the worst of the symptoms unless you have serious health problems, then you can still get very sick. Monoclonal antibodies may help some of those people, but the antibodies need to be taken within 10 days of coming down with the infection. Healthy people who take the antibodies are usually cured of COVID by the next day.

Some Florida pharmacies are willing. Good luck.

Morales is never going to respond to the Planet, his Mom Linda would never allow that! She probably promised him some new play toys like trucks and plows to play with if he keeps silent. Like any child he tires of his new toys real fast and stops playing with them. That explains why the roads in Pittsfield are such a disaster. He also seems to start playing a game (like North, Elm, Kellogg, Tyler Street projects) and never finishes the game. His mess is left for the Kapinski’s to trip over.

His Mom Linda’s best friends Gina and Deanna also get presents because they behave and keep their mouths shut. Their present is a newly created great paying job for a few years. The big present they get is a full City pension, especially Gina because I believe she was a few years short. Mom Linda takes care of her own.

Best of all Mom Linda told all the Kapinski’s to stay home last night and not attend the Holiday Tree lighting due to COVID Code red. Everyone is suppose to stop their lives and stay isolated because Mom Linda says so. That is everyone but Mom Linda and her hubby Cumby Barry, they were hanging at Patrick’s Pub, wonder if she even looked out the window to see that many taxpayers decided to attend anyway? Rather than go out and greet the very people that pay her salary she most likely either hid in the ladies room or most likely just ordered a double shot.

Her leadership is in the toilet and all the plungers are used up on North Street so the toilet can’t be plunged out to save the City. Life in Pittsfield get’s better every day, NOT, thanks to Crooked As They Come Linda.

The following is from Robert Sullivan’ s Sullivan for Berkshire County DAs Facebook page:
I believe in fate, and there’s a reason why a Boston boy, during a hiring freeze, applied to be a prosecutor with the Berkshire DAs Office. All signs pointed towards me starting and working in either Essex or Suffolk county because of my internships there, but life has its surprises. Despite traveling much of the world and attending college in Miami, western Massachusetts was a land less travelled for me. But I committed to being a prosecutor in the Berkshires and despite leaving for private practice to provide for my family, the Berkshires are my home. I have now been an attorney with a primary office in Pittsfield for almost 14 years. I have come across all walks of life and have enjoyed every moment of it. Now my county needs a change. It needs a chief prosecutor that doesn’t follow the trends of national politics, but rather focuses on the needs of the residents of Berkshire County. Crime is on the rise, including gang and gun violence, drug trafficking and its impact on overuse and overdose, and the county needs a prosecutor that isn’t a politician. Left or right, red or blue, the obligation of the DA is to be the chief prosecutor for the county and that means doing everything possible to create a safe community. The current administration has not and will not address these issues. Why are shootings on the rise? Why is the opioid epidemic on the rise at a higher rate than any other county in Massachusetts? I submit to you that is the result of a lack of competence, aptitude and awareness on the part of the current DA. I do not think that Attorney Harrington means any ill will towards the residents of this county, she simply lacks the awareness and experience to address it. She has no trial experience, so how can she lead trial lawyers on her staff? She wants to be involved in national political issues. I don’t. I want safe streets, safe homes, and a community that represents the best of what Massachusetts has to offer.

Donald Trump says that far leftist Biden can bring our country to a point of no return where we can’t save our country from communism and totalitarian globalism. Sadly, this is what the far left and the globalists want….to weaken America and hand all the power over to China. This Build Back Better plan gives trillions to China for all of this climate change paraphernalia because China is confiscating all of the material they need from places like Afghanistan to make themselves the number one supplier of anything related to climate change. This is like handing China all the power in the world.

Uneffingbelieveable. The Oxord School Shooting was totally preventable. The administrators failed the students, again!

According to Washington Post today, “superintendent of Oxford Community Schools, Tim Throne wrote in a letter to parents that ”the day before the shooting, 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley was found by a teacher to be viewing images of bullets on his phone during class….The morning of the shooting, a teacher noticed drawings and writings allegedly done by Crumbley and reported them to school counselors and the dean of students.

Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald described a violent drawing that included the words, “The thoughts won’t stop. Help me.” “Blood everywhere” was scrawled next to a drawing of a bullet, and there was a sketch of a bloody figure with two gunshot wounds.

Crumbley was brought to the guidance counselor’s office, where he said the drawings were merely “part of a video game he was designing,” Throne said in the note. Crumbley told counselors that he wanted to pursue video game design as a career.

Once they arrived, his parents were informed that they were to seek counseling for him within 48 hours or the school would contact Children’s Protective Services. His parents refused to take him home and left, leading counselors to send him back to class “rather than sent home to an empty house,” Throne wrote.

“at no time did counselors believe the student might harm others based on his behavior, responses and demeanor, which appeared calm,” Throne said.

Wow. More red flags here than potholes in Pittsfield, or bike lanes on North, or bums at intersections. Heads should roll over this. He was calm because he had already resolved to do it. My God, and send him back to class rather than home to an empty house??? They should have called Child Protective Services and demanded they remove him.

This entire shooting was not only preventable, it could easily have been prevented, and the kid was crying out for help.

This case has misfeasance wirtten all over it, and perhaps malfeasance. Either way, it’s law suits galore, against the school, the school department, and the city, as well as the individual dip sticks that let the kid back in class. Multiple millions for each death and injury. Totally and utterly unconscionalbe to send the kid back to class after drawing found, especaially with knowledge of bullet search day before. Add to that the school admin knew the kids and his family were into guns, by the kids and parents’ own admission. This kid fit the profile to a t – young white male anti social teen, violent video games, guns, ammo, drawing violent imagery. His picture alone tells you all you need to know. There will be mass resignations and firings over this, and there will be big payouts. The blame game started with the super’s cover you ass letter to parents, which will not cut it. Look for big name law firms to be brought in next week.

Did child protection remove the minor child from the custody of her Pittsfield cop father? The child allegedly shot herself in the head with her cop father’s loaded unsecured service weapon after her cop father tormented her by depriving her of her cell phone. So, while the cop’s minor daughter didn’t have access to her cell phone, she definitely had access to her father’s loaded service weapon. If you believe that. Who knows if the minor child threatened to kill herself before her cop father allegedly left the home to allegedly get away from the argument with his minor daughter, before it allegedly got violent. The cop allegedly left his distraught unhinged minor daughter home alone, obviously with access to his loaded gun. And, of course, the cop allegedly got away with this. But its allegedly not the only egregious behavior he’s gotten away with. On the issue of the school shooting, without a doubt the parents of this boy should have made sure all their guns were secure in their home. The boy’s ignorant parents and the allegedly egomaniacal cop are just as delinquent as their disturbed kids. But don’t think for one second that CPS is the answer for any child.

Man found dead in Pittsfield State Forest was shot to death, ruled victim of a homicide

By Dick Lindsay, The Berkshire Eagle

PITTSFIELD — A man found dead in Pittsfield State Forest over the weekend was the victim of a homicide.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined on Sunday that 32-year-old Reymon Delacruz-Batista, of Pittsfield, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office.
Shortly after 5 a.m. on Saturday, hunters found Delacruz-Batista’s body in the state park. Pittsfield Police, Pittsfield Fire and Action Ambulance responded to the scene and paramedics pronounced the individual deceased shortly after arrival.
Homeowners in the area of Pittsfield State Forest are asked to provide to police investigators home surveillance video showing recordings from Friday night into Saturday morning.
“My office will continue to work collaboratively with law enforcement and community members to address and prevent gun violence. We ask that anyone with information about this shooting support our efforts by reporting what they know to law enforcement,” Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington said in a statement released late Sunday afternoon.
Police ask anyone with information about the crime to contact Berkshire State Police Detectives at 413-499-1112 or the Pittsfield Police Department Detective Bureau at 413-448-9705.
