(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY OCT. 28, 2026) — THE PLANET will be taking a brief hiatus from the affairs of city and state to be on a retreat. This will be a time for personal rest and rejuvenation after an impossibly busy summer.

The demands for our services hit, but did not exceed, the limits of capacity, and having brought all the necessary appliances to bear on the challenges and tasks at hand, the time has arrived to reaffirm, reassert, and confirm. Then it will to reopen, recommence, and begin again … like Finnegan and his wake.

THE PLANET shall be ever mindful of our dear readers, who shall always have our gratitude and blessings. Therefore, the Comment Line shall remain open. Lord knows that plenty of issues need to be weighed and inveigled in the count of public discussion, not the least of which is an item on the council agenda whereby councilors will be voting to give themselves 50% PAY RAISE and boosting compensation. for the school committee by a full 100%. Outrageous, did we hear someone say?

We ask everyone to be thoughtful, precise, and profound, to the extent that one possesses those qualities. For remember, life — this phase of it, in any case — is over in a flash. Use your time for good. Contribute. Leave more than you take. Make your contributions count on the plus side of the ledger. Make us all better off for your having been here, for that is the mark of a successful life.
