THE HOUR IS LATE, BUT LOOK WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING. YOU WILL BE INTRIGUED
There is so much to share, but the hour is late and we’ve been going since early morning with an interesting variety of meetings, radio appearances, classes taught, essays written, books edited, and other sundry tasks. If a kaleidoscope could talk, it would spit new colors trying to capture the many hues of THE PLANET’s quilt-patch day. It would show, and not tell. This will not be, however, since we must be heading off bedways.
* We have news to report from Police Chief Mike Wynn, on two fronts. First, the chief clarifies the report we received and published yesterday about the K9 Korps being employed in a sniff-out. We think we’ve figured out what was going on. Second, Chief Wynn comments upon what he was asked to do in the case of dismissed water department employee Matt Inhelder, who resigned after being confronted about his role in an alleged overtime scam. More importantly, the chief tells what he DID do and what he DID NOT do. A more-than-interested bystander in this water department drama also shares a view from inside city hall (but outside the corner office). Would you believe there’s trouble in Paradise? There’s been much confusion about this. Tomorrow, we clarify. Tonight, we we turn to slumber shortly. Bedways is rightways.
* We heard from Mayor Jimmy Ruberto and 2009 mayoral candidate Dan Bianchi today on their intentions for 2011, one by e-mail and one in person. Each had much of interest to report, some of it even on the record. Seems our posting yesterday about what might happen in 2011 stoked the sparks and got a little fire going. We’d like to say more, but not tonight. Bedways is rightways.
* We could share some interesting vote totals from Ward 4, Precincts A and B, as they came to pass on the recently concluded Election Day, currently a week and a day in the past. You’ll recall those wards were also “in play” in an odd way in the Ruberto’s wafer-thin victory over Bianchi. What was it? 207 votes? What’s the connection? You’ll be surprised. Not tonight, though. Bedways is rightways.
* Peter White checked in with THE PLANET and confirmed what we reported yesterday, first before anyone else, about his interest in a possible opening for state rep. He also clarified his “support” of Chris “No Show” Speranzo and the Phantom Campaign. Also, who are the other obvious “suspects” in a possible 3rd Berkshire race should Spurs pull a larkin? Find out tomorrow. Not now, though, because bedways is rightways.
* Also, what did WBRK’s Bill Sturgeon and and Ron Lee have to say when THE PLANET guested this morning on Bill’s show? One of the topics: The Berkshire Eagle’s decision to charge veterans and their families $27.55 to place an ad to honor their service. We’d love to continue, but bedways is right ways.
* What was the “good news” that Scott Laugenour, late of challenging William “Smitty” Pignatelli in the 4th Berkshire District, had to share? We will link you up. If there’s anyone left out in the crowded emptiness who cares about the fragile state of this fast-fading democracy we have on our hands nationwide, regionally, and locally, they will be interested. The times are a changing, but ’tis getting late, my good friends, and we say bedways is rightways.
* And finally, what city councilor almost, almost, left the dais during Tuesday’s meeting to speak during the open comment session, as an ordinary citizen? Who and why? That and more, tomorrow, because now the hour is late, and bedways is rightways.
dan.looks like u had a lot on your plate yesteday…..cant wait to to be fed the info…….
“Seems our posting yesterday about what might happen in 2011 stoked the sparks and got a little fire going.”
Really? You think that you have anything to do with anything?
You sure do think a lot of yourself. You sure do wish that you had some sort of political weight. But, sorry Mr. WannaBe, you don’t.
Thanks for your comments. Keep reading!
Looking forward to reading the goods, Dan. It’s refreshing to have another voice for the news behind the news in the Berkshires.
If you ever get around to it (and it seems like your juggling quite a bit based on this post), I’d love to see your thoughts on what you think the future of baseball is or could be in Pittsfield, and what the Colonials could do next year to ensure a bright future of professional baseball in the city.
As a fan who has weathered the storms of the Civic Authority vote and the nondescript tenures of the Black Bears and the Dukes franchises, I’m very concerned about the long-term viability of a team in Wahconah Park. Can it be done? Yes, I believe so, but you have to be creative in order to win over a skeptical and apathetic public.
I’d love to read what you have to say on this topic.
JOSH
Thanks for such a thoughtful post. I shall be addressing the Colonials situation and the future of Wahconah Park soon. Keep reading and spread the word of this site. The more people who visit, the more we can help return government to its proper owners in Pittsfield.
