Join The Planet on Monday as he cohosts “Colonials Corner with Chad Cooper and Dan Valenti,” broadcast live out of the studios of The Brave, 89.7 FM. Cooper and Planet bring you all the news about the ball club leading up to Opening Night at Beloved Wahconah Park Thursday May 26. Our audience is building, the season is nigh, and happiness has returned to the Berkshires as we get ready to hear, “Play Ball!”

— May 26 and throughout Memorial ay Weekend, covering the 2011 debut of the Pittsfield Colonials. Follow Josh Cutler’s accounts of the team all year long at The Planet.

—On June 23 (Larry Keigwin) and June 25 (Romeo and Juliet), our scribe Jerri Chaplin will be on the scene at Jacob’s Pillow.

— July 1 brings our own James Taylor to the Shed at Tanglewood, and our writers shall be there.

These are just a few of the highlights coming your way, including gigs at the Berkshire Theater Festival, the Colonial Theater, the Barrington Stage, Shakespeare and Co., Chameleons, the Mahawie, and much, much more. This summer we shall also present think pieces on economics, philosophy, the off beat, the obvious, and — off and on, for it is the only way to approach the subject — the God Question, which is only the biggest topic of all.

The Planet in a Slam Dunk

On the air with Bill Sturgeon at my former radio home, WBRK, The Planet addressed the feverish rumors surrounding his innocent announcement about the future intentions of this website. We slam dunked such reports as:

* Conspiracies to silence The Planet, that don’t exist!

* That we’re on Gov. Patrick’s “secret payroll.”

* That we eat at Blantyre and other nice joints all the time for free (that one is so bizarre that a gymnast in Ohio wrenched his back upon hearing it).

* That’s we’ve joined the Other Side. You know, the Dark Forces that Conspire …

No. We are still on the side of the Light. Of Good. Of Hope. Of The Little Guy. Of Everyone. The Planet refuses to draw defensive perimeters around our words, thoughts, decisions, or actions. The Planet shall continue to conduct this site and its reporting with the highest ethical standards. The Planet will continue with the use of words to clear away and build up. The Planet shall use the media, speaking gigs, and the written word to fashion the future out of the NOW.

About 95% of the comments and feedback we’ve received about our intentions have been supportive and constructive. As for the 5% percent who for reasons only they know must continue to spread falsehoods, I make this promise: If they stop telling lies abut The Planet, The Planet will never tell the truth about them.

Life is for living.

Living is for the expression in actions and intent of who are ARE, not who people want us to be.
