CAMPAIGN ’15? IT’S AS EASY (AND AS CROOKED) AS “ONE … TWO … THREE”

PLANET VALENTI News and Commentary

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, TUESDAY, JUNE 16, 2015) — Campaigns have turned into Death Marches for the electorate. Presidential campaigns now run spill over into the fourth year. Literally the day after Barack Obama turned back Mitt Romney to win a second term, he became a lame duck, and you could already find stories about 2016. Statewide, it’s nearly the same. Any serious candidate for governor has to begin the turn about seven miles out.

Turning The QEII

To turn a large vessel like the QEII on the open ocean, one must begin seven miles ahead. You can’t do it the way you would take a left hand turn from East Street onto Lyman in a Ford Focus. So it is with campaigns.

Even the local level has succumbed. The Pittsfield campaign began in April and will last to Nov. 3 — too long and impractical for the offices at stake. Voter fatigue in Podunk, Mass., sets in early, producing three categories within Pittsfield’s electorate of between 28,000 and 29,000 voters.

Category One Voter — ‘The Duncers’

These are the “citizens” too stupid, lazy, unlettered, unschooled, and unenlightened to vote. The Category 1 “electorate” can be seen daily congregating at places like Persip Park on North Street, the bus station, and most anyplace downtown with benches. At night, The Duncers patrol the neighborhoods (primarily the West Side) in search of fixes, fixers, fixees, or trying to break into cars and homes to steal money or property for the next hit. These people do not have jobs, do not contribute to the public treasury, suck the community chest dry with benefits they haven’t earned, and think the world owes them a living.  Fortunately, they don’t vote. Unfortunately, this is the fastest growing segment of the Pittsfield population (group homes, convicts, meth addicts, pregnant and single young women, and the like).

The Duncers — Size 50% of the electorate … Power Rating: Negligible

Category Two Voters — The Little Guys

The next electoral strata consists of citizens who try to follow the issues. They are Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski, The Little Guys. They pay most of the taxes and hold most of the average jobs. They keep their yards up, their debt levels down, give to charity when they can, attend religious services, believe in fair play, obey the law, and want simply to be left alone to live their lives in peace or a reasonable facsimile thereof.  They want honest representation but don’t get it. They know they are overtaxed but also realize and have for some time that none of the “establishment” candidates will give two squirts about them the second after the election is over. Unfortunately, apathy and lack of time keeps them away from the polls in large numbers.

This group is the most besieged among the electorate. Too few of them vote because they know it doesn’t matter. For example, the choice between Peter Marchetti and Dan Bianchi in 2011? That’s like a condemned prisoner being allowed to select burning at the stake or being drawn and quartered. This was a choice between two Insiders each of whom were controlled by The Special Interests. No matter who got in, the city budget would rise, services would decline, and taxes would go up. Consequently, the majority of this disillusioned group have fallen victim to apathy.

The Little Guys — Size: 35% of the electorate … Power Rating: 20%

Category Three — The Suits

The Suits represent the smallest of the three electoral categories in number but hold by far the most power and influence. They include incumbent politicians, elected and appointed officials, business leaders, and anyone with influence, trying to obtain influence, or wield influence. The Suits are constantly on the make and the take. They control the votes in their fiefdoms and protectorates, and their vast power is directly proportional to the amount of apathy in Class 2 of the electorate.

In 2013 and ’14, The Suits succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. In 2013, a general election drew less than 1/4 of the vote, enabling these crooks to ram through a flawed charter that solidified their power. In 2014, their crowning achievement was shutting out The Kapanskis from having a direct say on a $121+ million expenditure for a superfluous high school. Every city councilor, school committee member, school administration member, the mayor, and city clerk supported shutting The Little Guy out of this process.

The Suits — Size: 15% of electorate … Power rating:  80%

——– 000 ——–

Only One Long-Shot Chance to Stop the Corruption

Here’s The Suits’ game plan for this year’s campaign:

(a) Count on The Duncers not voting.  No worry there.

(b) Engineer another Bianchi-Marchetti run-off, two insiders who will “play ball,” which before all else means not touching The School Department except to add millions to the haul. They are counting on a Bianchi-Linda Tyer final and have a bobo in the form of Jake “JIV” McCandless as superintendent.

(c) Drive as much apathy as they can among Category Two.

That’s how another election will be hijacked. The only chance to stop this is to somehow dramatically boost turnout, especially of Little Guys. Otherwise, it’s all she wrote.

Category 3 by extension includes the unions which have been the core control votes for special interest candidates for many years. That is why the politicians feed them with raises and benefits and expect their votes at election time. It always works as everyone thinks about themselves first and the city as a whole last. And this is why you hear about candidate lists being passed out to union members telling them who to vote for.

These people should know that their vote is secret and that they can vote for who they like once at the polls without union heads knowing. And they should think about this because if the city goes bankrupt, and it will surely do so if it keeps on its current path, they will lose much themselves. If fiscal changes are not implemented the bubble will soon burst and jobs, city services and home values will suffer greatly. And the selfish will suffer along with everyone else whether they like it or not.

The school unions are probably the most intimidated and need to really think about their future in Pittsfield. All the pay raises and benefits are not going to mean much if the city falls apart around you. If someone is telling you how to vote consider staying home and not voting at all because sooner or later this system is going to start chewing off its own leg and that means the union folk.

Linda Tyer would clearly present more of the same problems as mayor. I have heard nothing from her about the serious issues of poverty, crime, lack of jobs, and the schools receiving way too much money. Not a word. So she is definitely being supported by the suits. She is just running a low key campaign and hoping to coast into the job. If she doesn’t promise any change, then nobody can say she didn’t fulfill her campaign promises when she does nothing as mayor. Right now she seems to be getting a lot of her support from friends, family, and senior citizens as she is campaigning at the Senior Center it seems. These votes combined with those of the suits could put her over the top so perhaps she feels that’s all she needs to do to win. No enthusiastic campaign speeches filled with what the The Little Guy voters want to hear are needed.

A reply to Pat

I was living in Ward 3 when Linda Tyer was its councilor. She was a lame duck councilor then and appears to embrace the same message for mayor which is nothing. Hopefully a retiring city councilor will give her some pointers because as of know, she appears to be running only on her good looks. This senior citizen would never vote for her as looks are skin deep.

I have heard that Linda Tyer and Barry Clairmont are a couple, so if Linda gets elected MAYOR how much influence will Barry have on her master plan for Pittsfield FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.

Don’t forget that she also bailed on Ward 3 to take the City Clerk position. Her actions cost the city money with the need for a special election. She put her interests ahead of the taxpayers. Does this sound like someone you want to be Mayor?

I actually think it is wise for to lay low. Everything you say or do is scrutinized and if you have weaknesses they are more likely to be exposed. She is going to get a huge vote even if she just sits in a lawn chair in her back yard and says nothing until the day before the election. Smart politics.

I believe Craig said it best when he was on PV. That if people are looking for someone who will deliver change than they will come out to vote and vote the incumbents out and if they are happy losing all of this money than they will stay home and just listen to who won on the radio and do nothing. The sad part is the people who don’t vote complain that there isn’t anyone in office that are looking out for their best interest.
When they could have voted and changed things. I have been a firm believer since I was little that every vote counts. Someone may win by just one!

TAMMY MANY ON THIS SITE POST DAY AFTER DAY YET DO NOTHING TO INDIVIDUALY TRY TO INITIATE CHANGE LIKE YOU AND I DO. TO TOP IT OFF THEY COMPLIMENT PEOPLE LIKE MS. TYER AS BEING AN EXCELLENT CANDIDATE. YOU HAVE TO REALIZE THAT YOU ARE RUNING TO SATISFY YOUR CONCIOUS AND DONT EXPECT MUCH HELP FROM ANYONE ELSE,ESPECIALLY MANY ON THIS SITE WHO WOULDCRUCIFY YOU IF YOU STOOD ON YOUR HEAD AND DELIVERED TO THEM ANYTHING THEY WERE REQUESTING. WHEN I PULLED OFF THE WATER DEAL IN THE 80,S I WAS FRONT AND CENTER ALL BY MYSELF LIKE I AM NOW IN THIS CAMPAIGN. THE DIFFERENCE THEN VERSES NOW WAS THAT THER WAS INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING WHICH IS TOTALLY LACKING TODAY.FURTHER WHAT IS REPORTED IS EXTREMELY BIASED AS YOU AND I KNOW. DAN VALENTI HAS TRIED TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS THROUGH THIS SITE AND YOU CAN SEE THAT WITH EXCEPTION OF A FEW WHO POST UNDER THERE REAL NAMES NOT MUCH SUPPORT IS GOING TO COME FROM THIS SITE. YOU ARE FACING A VERY POOR CANDIDATE IN LISA TULLY AND I WUOLD SUGGEST DOOR TO DOOR CAMPAIGNING IN YOUR WARD. I AM GOING TO CHANGE MY APPROACH AND SEEK AVENUES THAT I HOPE WILL BRING ME REAL FOLLOWERS WHO WILL AID ME IN MY QUEST RATHER THAN THROW STONES AT ME.I AM GOING TO BE PRODUCING MY OWN SHOWS ON PCTV AND I WILL BRING YOU ON AS MY FIRST GUEST.I DONT UNDERSTAND THE APATHY OF THE CITIZENS AS THEY ARE BUYING RIGHT INTO THE HANDS OF THE GOB NETWORK AND THEY WILL GET DELIVERED RIGHT INTO THERE HANDS BIANCHI OR TYER. IF THE ELECTORATE WERE JUDGING THIS ELECTION ON BACKGROUN AND ACCOMPLISHMENT AND ALL THE IDEAS I HAVE PUT OUT SO FAR I WOULD BE A LANDSLIDE VICTOR. WHY DONT SOME OF YOU PV POSTERS DEMAND TO SEE BIANCHI OR TYERS RESUME AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS? I HAVE RESEARCHED THEM AND THERE IS VERY LITTLE THERE. I TOLD YOU THAT I AM CHANGING MY STRATAGY IN THIS ELECTION AND AS YOU CAN SEE I FEAR NO ONE. FOR THOSE FEW WHO OFFERED ME YOUR SUPPORT, IWILL TELL YOU THAT I AM RESEARCHING WITH LEGAL PEOPLE WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO GET A WRITE IN VOTE IN THE COMING ELECTION TO HAVE ON THE BALLOT A QUESTION ASKING THE ELECTORATE IF THEY WANT THE NEW THS OR NOT.THIS IS SUCH A MONEY DRAIN ON THE PUBLIC, WE HAVE TO SEE ONCE AND FOR ALL HOW THE PUBLIC FEELS. PV POSTERS, as I told you before all the posting in the world will do nothing to change what you think are going o be the outcome of the next election. last week I had a proposal as to how I think the city campaign should be run in the upcoming election. My proposal is to take the gob network out of the picture and the money that the well off have to buy the election.I have heard from two of you. Many on this site have questioned my veracity and this has occurred on this site which I have chosen as the site to put out my life as an open book. Consider the outcome without me in the election. Iam trying to help you the little guy with support from people like you who else can I go to for support. I will not quit and I will continue to work my ass off but I will become more forceful than I have been IT is your turn now.

Pittsfield politics tax base is shrinking or diminishing. There are no full time, living wage jobs in Pittsfield. About 70 percent of Pittsfield is receiving welfare benefits. If one wants a good job in Pittsfield, they have to bend over and grab their ankles in front of one of the Good Old Boys. If one speaks out about the corruption in Pittsfield politics, he or she will lose their job faster than one can snap their fingers. Pittsfield politics has the people by the balls!

To Dan Valenti:

You refer to a “flawed” charter” that the suits were responsible for.
From what I have ascertained so far is the sitting city council revised the charter to effectively give themselves supreme control over the city. Any major expenditure such as a new school, new police station, etc., the city council with its biased members are the only elected officials to determine the financial fate of Pittsfield. Unlike Gt. Barrington, the entire town voted for against a new school. And we all know the results of that voting, the voters won out by defeating the new school. Possibly the voters realized their economy was toast, just like Pittsfield, and voted down the project.
Pittsfield, with its revised city charter prevents the electorship from voting on any major expendership including a new school. Only the eleven city councilors make all the decisions concerning taxpayers money. Talk about a corrupt city government. Hopefully Dan, you could present a more thorough message concerning the “flawed city charter” and doing so would hopefully energize the complacent city voters. Pittsfield has no chance in Hell to advance until we demand the city charter is revised to allow every voter the right to decide on major expenditures. Who reads statements from a guy who calls himself Rotten Robert when they would much prefer the message from one Dan Valenti who does thorough research on any subject he refers to in his column?

I voted against the revised charter. I knew that if the Berkshire Eagle was all for it, it couldn’t be good, but also from what little was actually leaked to the public about what was in it, it sounded like a bad deal for the general public giving them less voice in their local government and this is exactly what has happened.

There really isn’t a mayoral candidate out there that is so good and appealing that everyone wants him/her…..it’s just that Bianchi has become so disliked that any one is better. It’s a hell of a way to have to vote.

This is also the way the suits operate. I think even they are fed up with Bianchi. They try to make us so desperate for change that we vote for their next candidate which in this case is of course Tyer. There are 2 other candidates running besides Tyer. The public should seriously consider them, but first we need to find out more about them. Tyer will just be more of the same and will be very controlled by the suits.

Do as I say, Not as I do. Cheshire voters denied a proposition 2 1/2 override for school funding. The irony lies in the considerable number of Pittsfield municipal employees and board members that reside in Cheshire.

No irony there. They don’t want the city they live in to have its economy destroyed. They could care less about the one they work in. They are not that clever, however, since if the city goes belly up, so will their jobs in Pittsfield even their pensions if the schools go into receivership so they should give a darn.

Pat- When I was a teacher we were way under paid but the unions have rewarded them handsomely and it is time for givebacks and sacrifice. If tey think opeb is a joke they can vote for bianchi and tyer and in so doing it could be there undoing. I would suggest to everybody to study what happened in Detroit Today teachers ARE applying in droves for positions that pay less than half what they paid pre- bankruptcy. The problem here is that the teachers here think it cant happen OH ya–bianchi and the council put 100,000 in the opeb act. for fiscal2015–2015 that’s like throwing an ant at a school bus.YUO CAN SEE THAT I HAVE A LOT ON MY PLATE WHEN I BECOME MAYOR BUT I THRIVE WITH MY BAC K AGAINST THE WALL JUST LIKE I DID IN PULLING OFF THE WATER DEAL WHEN SOME GAVE ME ONLY A MILLION TO ONE ODDS BUT YOU SAW WHO WON. AND YES THE GOOD OLD BOY NETWORK KNOWS ME AND IF THEY THINK I AM GOING TO STAND BY AND WATCH THEM TRY TO BUY THE ELECTION THEY BETTER THINK AGAIN. REMEMBER JERRY DOYLE SR., A GOOD OLD B OY STALWART TRIED TO MARGINALIZE ME AND HE FORCED ME TO HAVE HIM FLATTENED BY CHARLEY SMITH. Also one of the biggest water counsulting firmS tried to pull the wool over my eyes and they felt my claws when I had them fired also. oh by the way, Metcalf and eddy is todays water consultants today because of collingwooD and im going to relish my de jau vu moment a second time when I get rid of them again. As of this early stage before the election I am heavily leaning toward voting for Mr Gaetani. I like his style. Blunt and to the point. I am sick of being bullshitted by the special interest folk. I am sick of having my money spent foolishly. I am sick of having my taxes raised every single year without any effort to reduce expenses. I am sick of looking at the fancy parks and the bumpy roads that lead to them.

I want a mayor with balls who is not afraid to rumble with the big boys, not a puppet who is controlled from people outside the government. And that is the only way this city changes its headlong path into oblivion.
