PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, Monday June 26, 2017) — Let’s be clear. THE PLANET wants everyone to be themselves.  It may be fantasy, fiction or fact, but whether you “self identify” as straight, gay, lesbian, transgendered, queer, questioning, percolating, or “none of the above,” you have the right to free expression of who and what you perceive to be your authentic self. Simply put, you own yourself.

But does an LBGTQ-whatever gathering at Pittsfield’s Common warrant a page one story with photo plus next-day follow with rainbow banner across page one, with so many other stories waiting for anyone but us to pursue? Aparently, The Boring Broadsheet thinks so. THE PLANET wonders: Where is the tough, edgy, investigative work the new  owners promised? Nowhere. The BB wants to play the heavenly harps when it comes to the dying city. What little remains of its ad revenues depends on keeping alive the feeble fable.

Instead of an investigative piece exposing the rampant fraud in the use of taxpayer-funded city vehicles, for example unauthorized personal use, the daily rag wrote about how Pittsfield performs maintenance on its fleet. Stop the presses, already! Or why does Kristen Behnke, the school department’s finance direction, need nine women on her staff? There couldn’t be patronage jobs among them, could there?

Unfortunately, in dark blue regions such as Massachusetts, the LBGTQwhatever thing deals more with politics than personal and social justice. The point isn’t so much the admirable goal of personal freedom than the “state” granting license to indulge, giving government hidden control over people’s lives, usually without innocent folks, gay or straight, realizing their exploitation. There is no slavery so absolute than the one where not only does the indentured not realize his condition but actually thinks he’s free.

That’s the main reason why events such as rainbow rally at the Common find organizers and why politicians feel they have to show up. It comes as no surprise to this address that Mayor Linda Tyer spoke at the Common on Saturday. Politically she had no choice.

——– *** ——–

Be who you are, but stay ou t of our face with it. Let THE PLANET tell  you about Mystic Valley Regional Charter School in Malden. It has 1,500 students, 40 percent of whom are black, Latino, or Asian. The school has the lowest attrition rate in Malden, like Pittsfield a school district of choice — and it tops all the traditional public schools in the nearby six districts combined (source The Boston Globe). It has higher MCAS scores while serving students who are disabled, poor, or otherwise disadvantaged.

As a charter school, Mystic Valley operates outside the control of teachers unions — the biggest opponent of true education reform. That explains its superior performance. Mystic has a policy of not allowing any student clubs dealing with social issues. It wants the focus to be on education. The school has routinely turned down such requests without incident. Rules are rules. “The [trustees]determined that the school needed a policy to ensure fairness in assessing demand for clubs and in order to continue to operate in a financially responsible manner … with proper faculty supervision, with adequate compensation for faculty advisers, and with adequate student participation,” said Alexander Dan, Interim school director.

When student Rebecca Fisk wanted to start a gay-straight alliance group in 2014 and was turned down, however, it became a “cause.” Instead of realizing the need to comply with school policy, Fisk went to the ACLU. In fall 2015, rather than risk an expensive and likely unfriendly, Blue State court action, Mystic allowed the gay-straight club. The current events club? Turned down. Green discussion club? Forget it. LBGTQwhatever? No problem.

See, they are special. They are special not on the merits but because of insane politics. THE PLANET doesn’t buy it.

Despite my past criticisms of the lovey Linda Tyer for her financial management of Pittsfield politics, I am proud of her for standing up for Human Rights for the homosexual citizens of Pittsfield.

On the Dan Valenti radio show in 2004, I ask Jimmy Ruberto where he stood on same sex marriage in Massachusetts. Jimmy Ruberto had no comment on the issue back then. Dan Valenti said that I asked a great question, and why didn’t he (Valenti) think to ask the Mayor that question.

Even Donald Trump supports same sex marriage and the homosexual citizens of the U.S.A.

Reply to Jonathan Melle—I completely disagree with you on LGBTQ issues.(Do I even have the right to disagree with LGBT people?)
Marriage was, still is and always will be union between Man and Woman. Straight families are foundation of any country–they produce continuation of humanity. You can’t change Biology, Anatomy and Phisiology–sorry. Supreme court couldn’t do it either.
Homosexual people can have partnerships with all rights, but that would never be equal to straight family by simple definition.
If you are good in Math–you should know what acsiom is.
It is a Logical statement which can’t be changed–sorry.
Example–shortest point between 2 points is a straight line.
Not LGBT line, but straight line.
Child can be consived when mail sperm meets female egg—
Supreme Court can’t change it–sorry.
By the way, in the US and much more in Europe, many homosexual men are against legalizing marriage.
LGBT is not a civil right–it is a culture.
Yes, in the west you do have that culture, but in Russia, Ukraine, Belorussia, 37 Muslim countries –there is No such culture.
It is considered against moral and in some even criminal offence. If you so pro-LGBT–why don’t you support the right for Poligamy–where man or a woman (adult)can have several wifes(or husbands)(adults)–if they love each other–why they can’t live together? Why not?

Second Reply to Jonathan Melle–Sorry, I diagree with you 100% on Mayor, Linda Tyer standing up for Human Rights.
Human Rights are not ONLY about LGBTs.
She failed to reply to my 3 (three) letters to her about Human Rights. She failed even to reply to my Request to appoint me to Human Rights Commission—OK, she doesn’t like me–so, give me denial! No! She gives disrespect instead, because I openly stated that I am Conservative Republican. When I opposed Sanctuary city in Pittsfield–standing alone against attorney, Renaldo DelGallo3rd (resident of Lenox)and his 9 always ready activists, they didn’t allow me to speak more than 3 min, while they spoke 45+min supporting and crying for Sanctuary City.
What Human rights you talking about?
Mayor appointed all her friends to Human Rights Commission,
two of them brought Counstruction project–25 min presentation about rebuilding Tyler St in order Not to speak anything about Sanctuary City proposed. And Drew Herzog, HRC’s chair said in the end proudly: ” For me, this construction project is about Human rights!”

The City needs to start focusing on crime and the crazy driving and the over all condition of the City. Littering, vagrancy ( same names day after day) assaults day after day.Vehicles are a 3000 lb. weapon and cause more damage to the welfare of any community, if in the control of disrespectful and drunken drivers. You could park a cruiser on the corner of Colt Rd and South and get 100 speeders a day. The attitude of drivers especially is driven by the economy and the over all attitude of the quality of their lives, it affects the outlook of a lot of people and disregard for the safety of others.

Now, you have a situation where the State is going to pour huge amounts of money into Tyler street, you have an anti blight Administration and a property right in the center of Tyler ( Hess Forest) where the Planet landscaped with his weed wackier because it just grew weeds and Believe it had an abandoned light pole also on the property. A couple of other spots where no action is on it’s agenda is the overflowed water parking lot at Wahconah Park, for years, doesn’t anyone care about that? There have been four murders, maybe more, within three block of the Hess area over the years, and Louie Lent lived a couple buildings down from Hess. Maybe they thought they were in the jungle.

Your mention of the LGBTQ gathering prompted me to write this.
A few weeks ago, on a Sat., a group of Catholics from area churches met at Park Sq. to say the rosary. I believe it was in honor of the anniversary of Our Lady Fatima.

No mention or pictures in the BB about this particular gathering.
Or did I miss it?

I wonder why the BB didn’t think it was news worthy with the large number of Catholics in the city ?

Can anyone answer this?

If no one calls in to the BB to tell them of the event, they will have no clue. They are not going to find it on their own. Also probably because no one was there with multi color hair, or carrying signs or protesting something. They were just quietly praying to Our Lady Fatima. Can’t show that.

I’m sorry, have the Catholics been prosecuted recently? Was it illegal to be a Catholic within the last 100 years? Have you felt oppressed? We’re you allowed to openly be Catholic growing up? Had your family accepted your Catholicism? Have you been able top find another Catholic person in Pittsfield with whom you could lead a fulfilling and happy life? Are you able to have children? Hold hands in public?

Pride is held because it’s the only day off the year when a large number of city residents can be comfortable being their true selves. Where they can mingle with people like them. Everyone wants to be a member of a group. Humans are social.

And for those of you taking about blight and poverty and crime, do you know what had made many places successful? It’s an opening and accepting environment for people that think differently. It’s about offering the largest number of people the opportunity to live and be happy and eat at restaurants and pay too much for coffee. Your small-minded, bigoted, NIMBY attitudes are exactly why well-educated young people are running from this city. You want to fix blight and crime? Pay taxes. Spend time outside. Make your neighborhoods busy. Watch from your front porches. Crime does not like an audience.

So, in order for the BB to cover an event for a group (i.e. Catholics), that group must have endured all that the LBGT people have in past years? Otherwise, it’s not relevant?

Didn’t know that!

Jonathan, respectfully in 2004 BHO and HRC were both on the side of traditional marriage. You wouldn’t expect a local progressive to take a stand like that back then would you, without marching orders ? Its all about feelings now.

I used the parking kiosk for the 1st time and based on the planet thought it was going to be a problem.Number one I did not think I would get off North street alive,no problem, and the kiosk was the so easy to use I have to wonder if anyone on the planet found it difficult….it went like this step 1,step 2,step 3 done.

I had jury duty last week and used them for the first time. I also found it easy. I used coins. A friend gave me the heads up that it was easier and more secure than using your credit card. I paid for 3hrs but only used half of that. My space was filled as I pulled out. With old style meters the car that took my space would have had 1 1/2 hrs still on the meter. With the kiosks that car has to pay for the space I already paid for. So the city gets to double dip.

Elizbeth Warren just stated that 40% of children in the US depend on Medicaid for their health insurance. Apparently she thinks that’s just fine, whereas those of us with a brain know that’s part of the problem.

It’s why they have no incentive to create jobs. Working people wouldn’t be dependent on the government. Health care is the new cause they have taken up to make everyone dependent on government.

Medicaid has always looked after the disabled, children and poor women. Obama, however, put a lot of able bodied people on Medicaid and made it harder for people who really need Medicaid to get help. With so many people on Medicaid, fewer and fewer services are covered for the people who really need it.

Can we get Tyer and Marchetti to have Kerwood explain how you dont see this coming ,a 1.2 million expense. They all conspired to hide this from taxpayer at budget time so they didn’t cut schools.McCandless then adds new jobs and paras in schools are cut to add these positions as McCandless manipulated everyone or was that a secret deal they all knew about….People have given up ,as everyone now lies.

Planet, s c is very sharp and sure you are probably thinking the same thing.(spider) mentioned on here many months ago that salt trucks would unload massive amounts of this crap on the roads, when the roads and streets were dry. And when you pile that stuff into mountains all over the city, how the hell does one know how much is used, you would have to be Rommel with an accountant checking your fuel depots type scenario.
