COUNCIL SHOWS A PULSE ON TOTERS, POTHOLES … NOT THAT THE ADMINISTRATION CARES

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

ADD 1 UPDATES, 1-19-18 LATE P.M. — There are two items to share in relation to today’s Weekend Edition:

(1) Thanks to the responders to pointed out THE PLANET’s error in swapping Ward 1’s Helen Moon for at-large Mr. Persip. Moon cast the responsible vote on the toter plan, not Persip. We immediately corrected the error. We congratulate Moon, who’s off to a strong start on the council.

(2) It didn’t take long after THE PLANET’s sharing the communication between Ward 4 councilor Chris Connell and DPW commissioner David Turocy (see exchange, below) that the city sent a road crew to East Street to address some too the worst-rutted road in town. Good to know we can still make it rain.

— Regular Coverage Begins —

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION, JAN. 19-21) — Garbage in, garbage out, garbage sent back. THE PLANET‘s Right Honorable Good Fiends — er, Friends, that is — on the city council took one small step for Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski when they threw mayor Linda Tyer‘s toter trash plan back in her face. It remains to be seen if they will make one giant leap for Mr. and Mrs. K, plus most of the city’s local businesses. At least the cadaver showed a pulse.

The council had the chance at its last meeting to take action but decided to punt. Four councilors, ( Persip, Caccamo, Marchetti, and White) wanted to debate on the demerits and approve. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, and The Magnficent Seven (Morandi, Connell, Rivers, Krol, Simonelli, Mazzeo, Moon) at least said uh-uh. As in “Nope.”This plan is dumb, and Her Honor needs the hot sweet potato more than we do. One might bemoan that our heroes didn’t reject the plan outright since they had the votes, but let’s light a candle to see the sun and offer hosanas that at least they didn’t approve.

THE PLANET’s exchange with Ward 2’s Kevin Morandi Wednesday convinces us that his constituents overwhelmingly want the toter plan rejected. Morandi said he’s never received this volume of feedback on any single issue in his seven years on the council. He said he will oppose the measure and fight to have it shot on sight. Let’s hope he does just that.

Meanwhile, city hall sources, including one familiar with the inner goings on in the corner office, tell THE PLANET that the mayor threw a fit when the council threw the toter plan back (up?) at Her Honor’s doorstep. No one’s going on the record, what with retaliation being a way of life in city politics, but  it looks like the mayor and her backers have that “deer in the headlights” look.

It will be more than interesting to see what happens from here. Does the mayor have both the smarts and the courage to admit she was wrong in submitting a trash plan so utterly tone deaf?  Will she trash it? Or will she stubbornly try to jam through a force fit and risk a rare battle with the council, one that, if held today, she would lose?

Remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, does the administration give a flying buck what citizens think? THE PLANET shares this from Ward 4 councilor Chris Connell. On Jan. 16′ 9:03 a.m., CC sent roads commissioner David Turocy the following note:

“Commissioner, the manholes on East Street across from PHS need to be filled in around the collars. Actually they represent circular potholes. Thanks” then CC’s sign off.

That afternoon, Turocy sent back to following profundity:

“Chris, / We’re aware of them, and will patch them when we get the chance.”

“When we get the chance.” Yeah, like the 12th of never. Neat, eh? The sense of urgency, that is, and the specific plan of address so that the good councilor’s request, sub, titled on behalf of the batter front ends of angry constituents. That, dear friends, is what passes for “service” in the mighty metropolis. … Unless, of course, you’re part of the caviar and champagne set.

Major Premise: ALL GOVERNMENT IS CORRUPT. You can reason from there.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

Nuciforo’s plan to sell both medical and recreational marijuana via a not-for-profit Pittsfield dispensary he is heavily invested in raises both legal and ethical issues.

While I am part of the resistance against the fascist Trump regime, and, while I disagree with Attorney General Jeff Session’s decision to rescind the Cole Memorandum, the fact remains that Nuciforo’s pot operation violates federal law! Until the U.S. Congress passes legislation allowing marijuana dispensaries, Nuciforo is openly breaking the law!

On the state and local level, Nuciforo is the Prince of Pittsfield politics. His late-father was a Pittsfield State Senator & Judge, his Uncle, a state rep., and his late-Aunt, the first woman Pittsfield Mayor and longtime BCC Professor. Nuciforo followed in his dad’s footsteps by serving one decade in the Massachusetts Senate on Beacon Hill. He served one 6-year term as Pittsfield Registar of Deeds. So the issue remains whether or not he is using his connections to profit off the sale of marijuana in Pittsfield?

In closing, Nuciforo has a history of breaking the law and violating “ethics” policies in state and local government in Pittsfield politics. Nuciforo had people bully me since I was 20 years old in 1996 without leaving behind his own fingerprints/DNA. Nuciforo filed multiple “ethics” complaints against my dad when he served as a Berkshire County Commissioner. Nuciforo served as a Finance Committee Chairman in the State Senate while he also served as a corporate Attorney at a Boston law firm serving big banks and insurance companies. Nuciforo strong-armed two women named Sara Hathaway and Sharon Henault out of a state government election to anoint himself to a sinecure at the Pittsfield Registry of Deeds, Now, Nuciforo is openly breaking federal law by investing in a non-profit marijuana dispensary in Pittsfield, where he has unethical connections to make a profit selling pot.

Nuciforo never faces any consequences for his actions!

I think what sessions has in mind is to route out the rampant corruption, that you touched on with your ethics comment.
How did lucifero and Pittsfields Largest Theives Application go to the top of the list and get approved so quickly.
My bet federal prosecutor Andrew Lelling has that on his list of things to do, I wonder where are most of their campaign donations go? Pay to play… Seems awful familiar.

Definition of fascism:

A fascist is a follower of a political philosophy characterized by authoritarian views and a strong central government — and no tolerance for opposing opinions. Fascist traces to the Italian word fascio, meaning “group, bundle.” Under fascist rule, the emphasis is on the group — the nation — with few individual rights.

What sticks out for me in this definition by Wikipedia is the emphasis on a strong central government and NO tolerance for opposing opinions. Our media and our college campuses are perfect examples of this. No tolerance for differing viewpoints and only showing one political party in a positive light. Few individual rights is also key because with big government the individual is just an annoyance compared to the all powerful government. This is why I am against big government. It is dangerous.

Do you not see that ANY differing opinion from Fearless Leader Trump is immediately declared fake and the person who states it denigrated and belittled?!? That is straight from the fascist playbook and not something I see from most of the horrible progressives. I guess “basket of deplorables” was pejorative, but nowhere the level to which Trunp sinks.

The mayor is not very popular right now. If she jams this toter stool down our throats she will be in Trump territory as far as popularity. It is not just a bad idea, it is an asinine idea and she needs to listen to the background noise and not the people she promised to do it for.

And the councilors pushing for it are outing themselves as being in the mayors pocket because you know they are getting backlash from their ward people and ignoring it.

The economy in this country is about to explode with jobs (although probably not here in Berkshire County since we are so behind the times) thanks to companies expanding like Apple with a 350 billion dollar contribution to the economy over the next 5 years and other companies. Now those are a lot of apples. THANK YOU President Trump.

If someday White can use common sense and understand that every nickle spent on budgets should be spent from the point of view that WW2 veteran just had his 1600 dollar SS check deposited and must pay his bills including his 300 dollars a month tax bill that councilor White should try to lower to 290 next year, yes hes young and so is caccamo but it time to be a mature handler of money.
Just because the councilors can afford tax bills going up 250 bucks a year does not mean they should do it.

The Apple store is a franchise. Not the same thing. Retail is closing because of not very smart people who insist on ordering online. Retail has no overhead of store costs when they close their mall stores so they are all for people shopping online. Not very smart people are making it easy for retail stores to do this while causing inconvenience for all of us.

Not everyone can afford to order online with shipping rates. Not everyone, especially women, like buying clothing online. We like to try it on first and browse in stores not online. After sitting all day in front of a computer, the last thing I want to do is go home and surf the web for clothing. It’s not energetic enough and everyone will get very fat constantly sitting in front of the computer.

This city must owe about a billion dollars and the tax payers are going to continue to get clobbered exponentially each year.

Bianchi , in December 2013, hired consulting firm Nelson Nygaard and paid them $75,000 to take a comprehensive look at the downtown parking situation. There were recommendations, but none utilized.
Ultimately the City borrowed $3,500,000 from the State to help with renovation of the McKay St. garage. The state required the city to take on a parking plan to ensure the garage would be properly maintained. Mayor Tyer ok’d what we have now.
The State wanted the parking plan so the McKay St. garage can be maintained. Is that what the parking dollars are going be used for?

My understanding is that most people hate the parking kiosks and that the revenue predictions by the consultants were off by a large margin irregardless of the fluffed up spin Kerwood and the mayor have put on the subject.

It may have been Bianchis idea by the current administration is lying about its success. If the most successful part of it is that you have made a fortune in parking fines I am not sure that is anything to brag about.

She was leasing the property and under valued at best, and the tenant left and screwed her big time, not only on rent but cold weather problems, furnace pipes. She said when she gets back in the spring she’s going to a City Council meeting and let the Ward Councilor and Mayor know what’s on her mind. Chain migration for those who don’t know is when immigrants can bring all of their family members here including cousins and other relatives.

Trump gave everything the Democrats wanted, but they are acting like peevish children. They don’t want to end chain migration and don’t care about creating another generation of dreamers. They also don’t care about the current generation of dreamers. They care about politics and power.

Everything in the bill is what the Progressives wanted. They are just being nasty and they don’t want President Trump to celebrate his first year in office. Nancy Pelosi said really snippy, “Happy Anniversary President Trump”. This government shutdown will not be as hard on everyone as the one that the Republicans did years ago because Obama intentionally weaponized that shutdown by making everyone suffer so that the public would be especially angry at the Republicans.

Chuck Schumer pretending that Republicans caused this shutdown because they have the majorities when everyone knows that votes from Democrats were needed to pass this. it’s all word games on the part of Schumer playing to the stupid people in the public.

President Trump did not weaponize this shutdown as Obama did. Thank you President Trump for being a nicer guy than Obama..

But at this point, divisiveness and entrenchment on either side is not productive. We need people willing to talk, do the business of the nation and do whats best for people, nkt themselves!

So Mr G & others – you think Trump should give amnesty to millions of illegals because Chuck Schumer & Dems believe that would be the best thing for the country? Hats off to Trump for following the constitution!

That’s exactly what Progressives want. They need lots of illegals to grow big government. It’s obvious they don’t are about the citizens already here and legal. They tune them out and their shouts of no illegals. They are catering to the illegals to gain power.

Dusty, thoughts and prayers are now reserved strictly for post-mass shootings in order to avoid discussing things like banning assault rifles. Please be more cautious. And Pat, I am already here and legal as are my kids…so I certainly care about all that. I also care about fairness, treating people right and lots of other stuff over which christian conservatives do not hold sole domain. Your shrill name calling grows wearisome.

I read the letter. I agree. This Four Freedoms group is a strictly political group masquerading as some spiritual group which it most definitely is not.

Trump has everyone believing the economy will sustain, wait until Corps neglect to invest in Capital and slowly but surely take profits, ala Jack Welch. It will give a whole new meaning to stock options, buyouts, givebacks, sell outs, and get the f – out, in this case platinum parachutes. Nancy Pukelosi is another joke, when will America wake up to the fact that they (rich Dems Rep) Trump-are in it together, who the hell do you think gets the biggest piece of the tax reform pie,Wake Up America!
The Media also benefits, they get the controversial stories each day, most of which is driven by Trump dumb tweets
because of the politics. But think about it? Will Chris Cuomo be taking his tax windfall and giving it to Charity? Not is all as it seems,Americans are being fleeced on both side! Trump is giving dumb America what they want.

This is why SMALL government is best. Why don’t people get that the bigger government gets, the more problems we have. Progressives want big government. I WANT small government no matter who is in charge because politicians are NOT NICE people.

Trump has been mentioned to have received several std’s from this Stormy women, something that wasn’t mentioned as part of his Physical Exam. Former Sex porn Star and now producer Ron Jeremy, reported by A P said several men and woman who had encounters with this woman had some serious issues with contact with this so called ‘Star’ before Trump was involved. I feel sorry for Milania and his kids, what a jerk.

I feel sorry for Progressives who are this desperate to take down a president. The next Democratic presidential candidate will be a woman which is why they are going on about all the woman power nonsense now. Smart women know it is all a ruse to get Progressives back in power again.

Republicans and Independents should begin preparing now for this battle by running an opposing woman candidate instead of running any males because that way they could make the issue not about a man versus a woman candidate, but about the real issues instead of gender. Progressives have become very skillful at using this psychological BS. Opposing groups must take a lesson and do the same.

Look at how any woman running in politics who was not a Democrat/Progressive was treated by the liberal media and Democrats. Not respectfully that’s for sure.

Oh please….I’m a woman. The right to choose….lots of younger women are coming out against abortion and seeing it for what it is so you may not win that fight in the future. Who is against equal pay for equal work? Nobody that I know. Women want to keep their children away from recreational pot and schools that tell their kids that there are many kinds of gender and you can choose what gender you think you are on any given day and use the appropriate bathroom. Health care is important, but not healthcare run by the federal government that charges outrageous prices for it and limits care. These are big concerns of women and are ignored by Progressives.

You’re not implying that Pat is not well read I hope. Pat is a wealthy woman who by her own admission the other day told us that she sat in many a board room with fellow executives whose salty language was not for the feint of heart. Pat with her marvelous reasoning would make an excellent candidate.
