MAZZEO: SEWER RATE HIKES TO TOP 400% AFTER COUNCIL’s ‘FLAWED VOTE’ ON UPGRADE
BY DAN VALENTI
PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY
(FORTRESS OF SOLIUTUDE THE WEEKEND EDITION APRIL 27-29, 2018) — THE PLANET called the flip-flop of Donna Todd Rivers long before Tuesday night, when she “got religion” and voted to approved borrowing for a $74 million upgrade to the Pittsfield sewer facility. When she first ran for office, we identified her penchant for backflips, the kind indicative of an insecure personality who needs everyone’s approval. THE PLANET won’t delve further into the psychology displayed by DTR’s vote, other than to say we called that one, too.
Bottom line: Rivers flipped because she couldn’t withstand the pressure from six of her colleagues — Moon, Caccamo, Simonelli, Persip, Krol, and Marchetti, particularly the latter two. Moon and Persip be rookies, and they have quickly learned that their submissive role in winning their masters’ approval on such high-ticket items. At this point, they are council back benchers. Caccamo and Simonelli sit back-bench as veterans who love to collect their $8,000 stipend but not bother themselves with the policy details that once served as prerequisites to office. That leaves Krol and Marchetti, two of a certain kind who define “bravery” as the first inserting a helpless victim’s cocoanut in a vice and the second turning the screw handle. They don’t like fair fights.
On the sewer vote, citizens should retain a long memory that Kevin Morandi, Chris Connell, and Melissa Mazzeo acted in the best interests of their constituents. THE PLANET notes that citizens, not offices, constitute the city. People, not policy, must come first, and the righteous trio voted in a way that understood this critical distinction. They did their homework and knew the EPA’s demand mounted to the onerous burden of an unfunded mandate. The EPA demands could have been successfully turned back in court on the basis that the federal government has no authority to order a city as beleaguered financially as Pittsfield to “invest” $74-80 million in a sewer system that’s already in compliance.
In an exclusive to THE PLANET, Mazzeo blasted the end run performed by the Tyer Administration to fix the sewer vote.
Mazzeo said she, Connell, and Morandi asked the mayor for “a face-to-face meeting with EPA officials to discuss the issues regarding the 2008 draft permit.” That permit referred to the city’s initial appeal to the EPA over the new regulations, an effort Pittsfield lost, Mazzeo said, “because of horribly inept paperwork.” Mazzeo viewed such losing on a technicality as “a $74 million mistake that had to be re-addressed.” Mazzeo, Connell, and Morandi then asked the mayor to reach out to federal officials for help. The mayor sent a letter to Congressman Richie Neal, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Sen. Ed Markey but, Mazzeo said, Tyer ignored Mazzeo’s request to see the letter before it went out.” To date, the text of the letter remains secret, begging the question: Did the letter reflect the concerns of Mazzeo, Connel, and Morandi (acting on behalf of citizens, who cannot absorb more water and sewer costs), or was it worded to get the Washington bunch behind the effort to ramrod the update through without proper diligence?
Mazzeo said that after the council’s initial 4-7 vote to deny the borrowing needed to fund the project, a week went by without hearing anything from the mayor. She then requested meeting with Tyer “to discuss what to do next. The mayor and her entourage said they were waiting on a meeting with Alex Dunn from the state Department of Environmental Protection,” Mazzeo said. “I told the mayor I would want to attend that meeting, and Chris did, too. The mayor made no comment to my request. On April 3, out of the blue, the mayor called me to tell me she was on her way to meet with Dunn and others. I again said I wanted to attend, but the mayor put me off, saying that she would ask my questions for me. I viewed that presumption as a slap in the face not to me but to the citizens and businesses of Pittsfield, since I, like she, hold a citywide office. I had every right to attend what turned out to be a closed meeting.”
Mazzeo called the meeting the mayor had with MADEP “a joke.”
“I wanted to attend but wasn’t allowed. Only the people who supported the sewer upgrade were there.”
In short, Mazzeo said, the mayor made sure to tilt the playing field. If true, that would place the council’s approval Tuesday night as a vote under duress, since it occurred with incomplete, even false, information. THE PLANET has learned that attendance at the key meeting was limited to Mayor Tyer, Peter Marchetti, DPW chief Turocy, and city consultant Al Wells — all staunch advocates of the wanton spending. No critics of the plan were there to voice the reasonable concerns over a project with more holes than Blackburn Lancashire.
“The rest is history,” Mazzeo said. “After the meeting, the mayor ran to The [Berkshire] Eagle and made her statements, all before we even got our letter [from the EPA]. I sent an e-mail to the mayor telling her I was not happy that she would not be at the council meeting on Tuesday. She wrote back that [finance director] Kerwood [city attorney] Dahoney were capable of handling all the questions. So that’s it in a nutshell: A flawed vote that will raise sewer rates more than 400% in the next five years, and we don’t even know what the EPA permit will require the city to do. The more responsible action would have been to wait until we had direct knowledge of those requirements before moving ahead with this, but at least the consultants will still be making money.”
On that ending note, THE PLANET wishes al a happy draft weekend.

If a vacancy occurs in said office after a recall election has been ordered, the election shall not proceed as provided in this section.
Where do I sign?
GO get the signatures.
A recall for this spendthrift mayor is an excellent idea. I’ll bet she already has plans for moving out of the area. We also need to get back to a two year term. What a mess this city is in!
Jon
Reply to 12 Gauge:
Brabo! Bravo! We should do Recall ASAP!!!
I agree with you! Linda Tyer must be removed!!!
Pittsfield and the Housatonic River should be a Superfund site! Industrial chemicals called PCBs that cause cancer are everywhere. The EPA allowed most of GE’s toxic waste to be capped, but caps do not last forever! In fact, caps need to be monitored for pollution on a daily basis.
The argument that the sewage plant is emitting chemicals into the already polluted Housatonic River is both unfair and myopic. The EPA is totally hypocritical to allow caps, while they are complaining about waste-water plant pollutants.
The large increases for the rate-payers into the city’s enterprise fund comes prior to the city’s fy2019 budget, which always increases by 5% per year. Pittsfield politics is financially unsustainable.
The bottom line is that Pittsfield and the Housatonic River is still polluted and its municipal finances are a hardship on the average local taxpayer!
– Jonathan Melle
12 Gauge is right. We need to recall secretary Tyer. We’ve been screwed over too long by too many nit wit mayors. We have to send them a message that we won t take their crap any longer.
A “message” means nothing, a property tax UNDERRIDE is the only way taxpayers can get back some control, but of course the voter base in this area is too pathetic for that to have a chance
I agree Wilson especially when all the school personnel, who voted in Mayor Tyer, will flood to the polls and monopolize the elections. School employees love Mayor Tyer because the delivers the goods in the form of higher salaries. The push for more money for the schools is what is destroying this city. Nothing else matters in the choice of leaders for Pittsfield as long as they deliver that basic necessity. This is why we end up with such TERRIBLE leaders.
Melissa Mazzeo is right on this issue, but has been wrong on so many others like fighting against a Super Walmart and shutting down free speech at council meetings. Melissa Mazzeo is also a school loyalist who will give school employees all the money they want.
All the money in the world isn’t going to save those buffoons from receivership.
The administration on various levels are already abandoning ship
Default is coming. Fasten your seat belts.
Jon
I was just thinking, there just might be one citizen, and one is the optimal word! that would start this crusade. Let me give him a jingle.
The mayor is a sneaky worm.
Y
Yes you are correct, Art, the fix was in. Mayor Linda Tyer wasn’t even at the meeting due to a pre-planned vacation, and her Director of Administrative Services, Roberta McCulloch-Dews was there and read a letter from the Mayor. The mayor should have been there for such a large project. She could have at least used Skype or teleconference for the short time she had to be present.
Will these upgrade contractors go through a bidding process?
What bank or banks holds the countless millions of city debt? How much is it and what is the interest taxpayers pay each year?
Is there any city owned assets that can be sold? Trees for lumber, buildings, land, unused vehicles?
Has that guy that owns that large building with the firewood collection on outer West Housatonic ever paid his back taxes from 20 years ago?
why is the common lit up all night?
And the city employees, especially school dept need to pay more for their insurance.
Still waiting for you respond to my challenge about Iran. Are you man enough or will this prove you are fake news?
I am so glad for my city paid health insurance. Doesn’t cost me a penny for family coverage.
How much is the water bottling plant paying for access to our city drinking water??? How much of our water is being trucked out in a week….month…year? Was the company given any incentives such as tax breaks? Is the bottling plant causing a strain on our systems?
I wish this city would start growing more astronauts and fewer inept mayors.
Its as if mayor tyer is on a mission to destroy this city by gentrification. If you cant afford to live here your being removed through property tax burdens.
I see once again all children of special needs are being house in the worse public school buildind. The Crosby school is a enviromental disaster where Publics Schools hide the children who need the best enviroment. Crosby is absolutely unfit for children and a health hazzard. Its the Silver lake of schools and the Superintendant knows it.Great staff very sick building and the teachers union fields many complaints about air quality there over the years. The former shop area smelled of mold year round and thats where special ed children were assigned.
Mayor Tyer is a cautionary take of thinking that a woman will solve all of our problems simply by virtue of being a woman.
I voted with my lady parts!
Mayor Tyer is a cautionary tale of thinking that a woman will solve all of our problems simply by virtue of being a woman.
You said that twice Pat and I agree it needs repeating.
A mayor needs to know something about money and budgets and additionally have compassion. Also helps not to be indebted to crony parasites.
There was an article in the April 14 Berkshire Eagle, section B, top article, that says there is a retired police officer who still gets health benefits from the city. Really? How many other retired Pittsfield employees are the taxpayers paying health benefits for?
That sounds kind of expensive
Take my challenge dusty. Scared?
What are you talking about Steven. I usually don’t pay much attention to your posts so remind me what you need this time. i will help you if I can.
Prior article by Dan. You stated as fact we will be at war with Iran in 2 weeks. You are fake news. I challenge you again. If we are st war with Iran in 2 weeks I will no longer post here. If we are not you will no longer post here
Man enough to take the bet? Yes or no
Dusty’s too busy to respond right now. He’s online applying for his CommiesRUs membership card.
Oh i know he will never accept that challenge. Libs never do accept challenges with facts
Don’t feed the shills….you are doing exactly what they want you to do.
Steven my dear boy, why don’t you just block me? Duh???
So you won’t accept the challenge ?
First of all it is not a fair challenge since you post under six different names.
Secondly, it would not be fair to all the other readers who’s only reason to get up in the morning is to read my cranial challenging posts.
Still, keep an eye on Trump and Bolton breaking the multi national treaty with Iran and causing untold havoc in the mid east. Israel and Saudi Arabia want us to take out Iran for them so they do not have to waste resources. And they know Trump is putty in their hands and will do this for them because he is oblivious to the consequences.
Unfair. Not unfair. I post under one name. You simply won’t back up the fake news you peddle
Game over. I win
I would imagine Dusty that ALL retirees from city work have a city-provided health plan. The teacbers certainly do, and their contribution, the retirees, is the sameas active employees! I believe in Pitts the taxpayers pay 85%
Will WalMart be changing the label on the water they sell? “New improved Pittsfield Municipal Water Supply” Fortified with Flouride for your children’s teeth.
Ok, now that we have the water problem fixed, we need to move onto bigger and better things like building a new police station.
Is it time to repave the runways at the Pittsfield airport again? Its way overdue.
Taconic High School monstrosity is now complete, under budget and ahead of schedule.
Its the 21st century so we need to move the trash pickup out of the city’s coffeurs and into the hands of the taxpayers.
Is it time for a new Pothole machine yet?
Teacher’s need a salary increase, universal health insurance for all city workers and new school buses for “the children” are in order.
Is it time to tear down the Colonial Theater yet? Due to lack of support.
Don’t worry about the money because Pittsfield’s credit is AAA.
and there must still be a few Pittsfield millionaires who have not gotten their tax breaks yet. Can we find out who has been left out and put a rush order on their refunds? Don’t worry about the lost revenue mayor us seniors will be happy to do without something else. Maybe I can sell my eye glasses if I really need food or medicine.
How about this: We all just sign over our paychecks to MS Tyer and she decides how much she needs to run the city and gives you back an allowance?
If, after you work your butt off til you drop and don’t have enough to live on, there is welfare, ebt card/food stamps, subsidized housing and Obamacare. That is Democrat paradise.
They plan to change the name to Tyer’s Twisted Tonic.
The sickest school building is the Special education programs home base.SPED has been well srrved by staff but every administration has found that the more dilapidated structure are best suited for the kids who need the most help.Water has been dripping into dark places for years and years…..Mold anyone, anyone. Its 100 degrees in one room and 32 degress in another ….If administrators say they dont know they are lying
Again great reporting and commentary by the planet… I for one so grateful to have this site… you think the eagle would ever dig for a story like this… ? thank you dv.
As I suspected and pointed out here a few weeks ago, Tyer only let those in support of wasting 74 mil go to that meeting with the EPA. As Dan has often said, the fix was in.
I thought we couldn’t get a mayor worse then Ruberto but Bianchi proved me wrong. I then thought we couldn’t get a mayor worse than Bianchi and Tyer proved me wrong. But I think I’m right this time in saying we could not possibly get a mayor worse than Tyer. She is the worst mayor in the history of Pittsfield and is as dishonest as they come.
i have been watching the same disaster unfold for years. It is almost like the mummies curse. One of our ancestors must have done something really horrible for us to deserve this much inept and uncaring leadership.
The Red Sox finally broke their curse but for us it may take a while. Not looking good right now.
Absolutely…She’s not from Pittsfield. Didn’t grow up in Pittsfield. Wasn’t educated in Pittsfield. And Pittsfield is merely a convenient means to a self centered end. No commitment nor loyalty, Follow the money albeit deviously hidden in bids, line items, consultant fees, budgets, contracts, numbered accounts and other creative abysses.
NIB,than should be than, not then.
Amen NIB…Been saying that for months now and the evidence continues to pile up…Mayor Tyer will long be known as the worst mayor in the city’s history (undisputed). The sad part is that the worst has yet to come. Mark these words… Before her time is up, citizens will be storming city hall. It will be the Pittsfield version of Shay’s Rebellion.
Ruberto still controls her. I have a relative who lives next to him in Fl. and he tells me all about it.
Jimmy Ruberto is the King of the Good Old Boys of Pittsfield politics. The G.O.B. ran Pittsfield into the proverbial ditch. The G.O.B. is a group of interrelated, multigenerational, inbred local families that act like the mafia. Anyone who speaks out against the G.O.B. loses their job in a New York minute. The G.O.B. spreads vicious rumors against you, too. The G.O.B. relies on suppression of citizen participation, low voter turnout, and a top-down one political party system that guarantees their tight grip on power.
If King Jimmy Ruberto really still runs the show in Pittsfield politics via the lovely Linda Tyer, then Pittsfield will go deeper into its never-ending downward spiral or population and job loss, with 5% yearly tax hikes and tens of millions of dollars in additional municipal debts.
Pittsfield politics had enough with the “Doyle debacle”, the “Hathaway hack”, the “Ruberto regime”, and the “Bianchi bust”!
– Jonathan Melle
On a foreign policy note, the war between North and South Korea is finally over.
One thing for sure, if Clinton had become president this would never have happened. Never.
Right. and there would have been no collusion with Russians either. Or Stormy Daniels, or , or ,or ad infinitum
Dusty it just came out all over the news today that there was NO collusion with Russia and the Trump campaign. The FBI is completely to blame and they admit it. President Trump also received congratulations from SOME in the liberal media for bringing together North and South Korea.
UH, yes Pat. It did come out all over Fox/Trump news. If that works for you then I am happy for you. Have a good day.
Truth hurts
President Trump seems to be giving the North Korean leader what he has been looking for all along which is acknowledgment. Throwing money at him didn’t work or appeasing him as Obama did both. All along he wanted to be seen as a player on the world stage. Maybe now we will continue to see him become a responsible world leader although he has a LONG way to go. Also what he did to the young American boy is unforgivable. North and South Korea in an historic summit is also very impressive. Thank you President Trump!!!
Trump has already met with KJU during his China trip. Peace though strength….trust but verify!
V It is no longer the value by assessment that will raise your taxes but the this mayor is using thewhoevere city’s value including homes to increase your tax rate. You dumb asses ain’t seen anything yet. Check up on this also, declining tax tariff, you ll be amazed what that double talk means, it’s real.
Can you translate this to English?
Why didn’t the City Council object to the V I P invite at the EPA meeting with Ms. Dunn. Why does the Planet and Gaetani have to do the dirty work on that one? I was at Big Y andGaetani told me in the store he has written a letter to have her come to a City Wide question and answer forum. Again, why didn’t the EPA ask that all C C be at that meeting. Something wrong there?
Agree with Dan and CB LS. How many times do City Clowncil say that they vote for the constuents and when a non-referendum vote like the new high school is when they say that. But all Councilors not included at that meeting, sumptin stinks.
Maybe because there might have been a near riot. Had Flip Flop not changed her phony vote this wouldn’t be an issue,
There must be some way we can send a message to city hall even if it is in a round about way. Who or what could we all boycott that would send a message to the mayor?
Boycott crap. Then we won’t need a new poop plant, and we won’t have to listen to the crap you post here. Win-win.
But for now you do bozo. So put your waders on and put a clothes pin on your nose.
https://www.poopsenders.com/
Great website Joe. I wonder if they have a frequent shopper discount.
I think I’ve just mentioned who, numbnutz. Who did you think I meant., fritz and Dean?
Don’t expect dusty to understand anything Gaetani has done for us, he-she never compliments the Planet. Lone Wolf I guess?
Carl, I voted for Gaetani when he ran for mayor and would do so again. Not ashamed to admit that.
What I ‘ll do is comply, until the end of each week and report just one comment to appease the people on here. DOW DOWN for the week.
Don’t worry about Trump. Don’t worry about North Korea. Don’t worry about Hillary’s 30,000 deleted emails.
Stop worrying so much about the water, Pittsfield’s bankruptcy or Mayor Tyer singing, “I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden”. She only promised to get rid of all the blight.
The real important thing we need to focus on is Bill Cosby is guilty and going to prison for the rest of his life. Fat Albert; justice is served. Get your priorities straight.
Factoid…Bill Cosby went to UMass and has or had a home in Shelburne Falls.
True dusty. See how important that story is?
Two Cents is right. Tyer is the worse mayor yet. And she’s just getting started. Everything she proposes becomes a disaster. And we have two more years!
All those who voted in favor of this stupid sewer project should be replaced next time around. I, for one, will speak out and remind everyone. And I hope others opposed to it will do the same.
Enough is enough!
One of these times Gaetani will speak at a meeting and there will be a couple hundred behind him, and that could happen if he gets Ms. Dunn here. Mayor, don’t bother coming.
I agree with all of the statements about this latest fiasco of the meeting.Mayor, her honor wasn’t there, but more importantly, those in referendum mode clearly had no chance of being there, well, Mr. Gaetani, Let’s hope you’re serious about this invitation.I will be the first to speak!!
Teflon Don he is.
Untrue. He has done nothing wrong
Pat,its the GOP report. Who are you and Trump trying to kid.
Truth hurts eh. No collusion. Period
a year and a half ago someone climbed up on that bloody cross and pulled out the nails so Donald could come down and save the world. That person is a true hero.
2 million for recycling and trash…..Behnke gave gerself a 4k raise….where is 1 leader in town that will stop this woman who was told she is couragous for spending all our money .No new police station,20 million for the airport for canyon ranch
The gentrification of Pittsfield is a racial crime and moral issue.Minorities must go in Pittsfield, Ma.The mayor knows what she wants to remove from coty
What the hell are you talking about?
Why in the world would the principal of Taconic high school, who would be presiding over a brand new state of the art school, abruptly leave to go to a neighboring district?
Do I have this story wrong?
Plain & simple…$$$$$$$$$$$$
Everyone dusty is too scared to take my challenge confirming he is a purveyor of fake news
speaking of Donald Trump Jr….why in the world would anyone want to kill an elephant? very scary persona…..I can see why his wife would not want to be around him
Too scared to take the challenge dusty. You are now a proven purveyor of fake news
Oh nooooooo that’s awful
Thanks for confirming
While is disagree with most of Dusty’s political beliefs ,I respect his right to have them. You seem to have many handles on here and it seems like you are just here to cause trouble and derail debate.
How to Quickly Spot a Shill
– Attempting to get a divisive or emotional knee-jerk trigger response from (you) to derail research is a red flag.
– Concern trolling and copy/pasta spam shilling that contradicts confirmed findings is another red flag.
– Employing faux debate tactics: Generalizations, gas-lighting, misdirection, false equivalences, confusing correlation with causality, appeal to authority, transference, false precepts, personal attacks, straw-men, red herrings, etc. are all yet another red flag.
– Promoting social ethics that are disingenuous, such as doxxing anyone, “reverse psychology” ploys or ones based on lying to the American People; these are obvious red flags.
– Promoting tactics that are unethical, illegal or involve violence outside the scope of the Law are huge warning signs.
– Employing Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt tactics for any reason is highly suspicious.
– Topic sliding: If very sensitive information of a critical nature has been posted on a discussion forum, it can be quickly removed from public view by topic sliding. In this technique a large number of unrelated posts, or posts aimed at diluting the information being presented, are submitted in an effort to trigger a topic slide to literally push content out of view. An operator can control several fake UIDs via the bots they make use of; these can also be called upon in the other techniques to try to mask the intent of the operator from the users at large. Although it is difficult or impossible to censor the posting it is now lost in a sea of unrelated and bogus postings.
– Seeding bad information: Operatives will insert flawed or bogus information from time to time as an ongoing tactic, depending on their skill set and the needs of their mission. Their most common ruse is providing information or evidence which is backed by bad source material in the hope that the “source of the source” is never checked. This serves several objectives, mainly resource consumption, evidence pollution, discouragement and misdirection.
– Astroturfing consensus: This is a technique that attempts to build a manufactured consensus around a flawed set of statements or compromised information. This is related to consensus cracking, where false evidence is injected in an attempt to dispute or discredit what the current consensus is, and push it towards the desired false consensus. Misleading and false evidence and information are often salted into the evidence pool, with an aim to impede organic consensus building, while also poisoning the available information and evidence.
Gentrification is the removal of people who cant afford to live in a area because the cost is getting to high and they need to move and relocate.Pittsfield is poverty and the Mayor and city council except a very few in collusion with Schoo committee have made it by design to expensive.
Its cheaper to own a home in Pittsfield than pay rent as a 3 bedroom apartment is 1600 bucks.Home sell cheap here but if your in poverty you dont have 30k to buy from the bankers. The taxes on chep homes here is off the charts…..Yup ,they are forcing the poor to leave Pittsfield.
It’s the middle class that’s being pushed out. The only ones who’ll be able to live here are the welfare class, the drug dealers and the well to do.
President Trump may win the Nobel Peace Prize and unlike previous winners of this prize, President Trump actually deserves it. South Korean foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha says President Trump has been determined to bring North and South Korea together and his determination has paid off in the form of the historic meeting that happened yesterday.
Whether the globalist elites will let him have the prize is another story. They didn’t hesitate to give it to world citizen Obama and nobody could figure out why except that he was a popular Democrat.
Donald Trump = Adolf Hitler
Donald Trump should receive the Hitler Hate Prize!

melle = uninformed hate.
I am not alone in my criticisms of Donald Trump! He is a hateful politician! He is an embarrassment to our country and the World. He is a fascist who uses white nationalism to hurt Mexicans, Muslims, and Women. As for the economy, the stock market is volatile and the federal budget will have record deficits of over one trillion dollars! Many Republican Congressmen are retiring this year of 2018. House Speaker Paul Ryan knows the U.S. House of Representatives is going to flip to the Democrats with the midterm elections this year of 2018. The Republican Party is going to spend billions of dollars to try to hold onto power. I predict Trump will be a one-term prez if he isn’t impeached prior to 2020. I looked up “Moral Hypocrisy” in the Encyclopedia and I saw a picture of an orange pretzel that weighed close to 300-pounds!
Jonathan,
I find your hate-filled rants against President Trump offensive. You seem to have a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. I suggest you stop spending all your time in front of the telly listening to CNN and spend more time studying history and pursuing truth.
Jonathan Melle gullible hater.
DACA was never LAW…they wanted to give 800,000 DACA people a path way to citizenship. President Trump offered 1.8 million daca people a pathway in exchange for border wall….Schumer and Pelosi turned it down. We need the wall or we will end up in this situation again. It seems to me they don’t want to fix the problem.
So do all city retirees get city paid health insurance? and if true does it cover their families? And if so….holeeeee shiiiiip

What is the story on the Colonial Theater? Is is still running in the red with taxpayer bailouts under the table?
Have stooge take it over, he likes it so much.
The best experience I had at the CT was when they played The Shining on the big screen. I had high hopes for that place but whoever the booker is has failed. There are so many good bands/comedians on the theater circuit but none ever show up here. Why?
Thats a good question Joe. There are always a ton of acts touring, big name, medium and small. Wouldn’t it be better just to have shows, regular shows? Can they not operate profitably? It has to be a fairly simple calculation; cost of act, number of seats, mmprice per seat and add a % for concessions.
Maybe DTR could respond to the planet and do the Ricky Riccardo thing and so some splanin ?
Seen a map of the states showing the states with the highest and lowest paid teachers. Looks like Pittsfield teachers are like 3rd highest in the whole country. Imagine that on top of heath insurance and time off etc
Unbelievable that we are one of the poorest cities in the country with the 3rd highest paid teachers in the country. Something is so wrong with this and that is why we are all complaining!!!
Pittsfield is not even the third highest paid in Berkshire County. It is $6000.00 below the state average. Mass. is the 5th highest in the country for teachers pay. I’m looking at masslive.com. Where is this map dusty that puts Pittsfield third nationally?
Actually not Pittsfield but Mass. so sorry
There is only one person in this City who could turn this City around and that person is Gaetani. This guy is a War Hero and could debate anyone, on any topic, leaving them smoldering in the ashes.
Gaetani is a highly educated fearless genius, who has worked with the highest level Individuals In this Country. President Johnson, Generals Westmorland, Abrahams and Colin Powell and former Governor Michael Dukakis and Sec of State John Kerry, and Most importantly Dr. Milo’s Krofta and Dr. Lawrence K. Wong.
He has worked extensively with the Federal E P A and the state and local regulatory Agencies and he knows how to talk to these kinds of people.
Gaetani just didn’t come on the scene suddenly. He has been out there predicting that the Vity would find themselves in the mess they are in now because of the incompetence of the mayor and city council.
Gaetani is by far the most knowledgeable person in water and waste water projects. The mayor, council, take his advise. And the main question everyone should ask? Is why?
Whether you like Gaetani or not, the man is highly educated and everything he does is for the taxpayer. he saved our city over one hundred million in the eighties and was prepared to save another 40-50 million on this project.
I need to know why this man wasn’t listened to.
Gaetani has stated over and over again that Turdocy and the three consulting engineering firms must be fired, any the city deal with benders directly.
Gaetani should know, that’s what he did in the eighties. An example of absurdity at the last Council Meeting was Persip asking a City Worker what technology should buy.
This would be comparable to Albert Einstein sitting in an Audience an a student asking a question of a janitor about relativity. This is the type of stupidity that occurs in this City. Does everyone see the picture now??????
I asked the G-Man about the petition he will be asking to bring Ms.Dunn here for a public question and answer. I don’t know if she was even aware there would be only a couple of City Councilors at the meeting, who happened to be for the project of this magnitude is definitively not oversight, just under handed in my opinion.
I believe the man when he says that the project is flawed and way over priced because it would be totally revamped-not needed says G -Man, he is correct.
I told him residents are in the dark about the details, especially cost of the not needed project. Twenty four dollars to begin with,is a lot to some. I can remember when the last increase came, about five dollars,Councilor Mazzeo said that it wasn’t to bad, wonder what she thinks about this. is she going to wait until after it passes, and do a Mea culpa? Or is she going to help Gaetani get Dunn here so that Citizens can express their opinions.
Gaetani has laid out the framework. Everything is in compliance, yes,a new stage has to be constructed and maitenance on holding tanks, I Believe? But until I know details of what the EPA is asking, how can anyone in good conscience, with this price tag agree with these new rates.
The last resort was, if flip flop hadn’t changed her vote it would have forced Dunn to address it publicly.
Would it surprise anyone if the sneaky secretary was using the EPA lady? She’s being played. Guytoni is 100% correct about Tyer.
And then we have Cory Don and a weary Barry.
Its Lying Linda Tyer who never tells the truth to taxpayers.Where is the money coming from.People need to be cut in the school.35% of teacher dont pay taxes to Pittsfield. To quote Mccandless he said of the 240 kids who enter taconic about 20 % wont graduate from that building. The school for 120 million will generally be over staffed and not filled to capacity as a rule.Yon,Trici Bouvier, Massimiano, Eberwien take credit this ugly building and plan of use that is going to cost big as they will make huge changes almost immediately
Just wait until they start demanding more money for the new Taconic. They will have a million excuses for why the new Taconic needs more money.
apparently they are going to need more money for a new principal if the last one just bailed because of the low pay. O my!
The lying Linda said they are looking at everything in the schools to save money.Of the 45 paras laid of last year how many are back to work.
Mizz Behnke gave herseld and all administrators a raise. She got 4 k….Why is she called a Superintendant when the old name was business office purchaser.
Head Custodian 65k plus health insurance can be cut tomorrow. The position is a overpaid go for associated with Behnke…..that office bleeds wasted cash.
Has anyone checked into how cash of anykind is handled at Crosby school.Check back at least 5 years
I do agree with you on this issue School Committee. ALL of the paraprofessionals were hired back and even more taken on the school payroll. The schools complain about money, but the paraprofessionals are there to make the job easier on the teachers. The paraprofessionals are a luxury when the schools can’t stay within budget. When the money isn’t going to the kids, but to high over the top salaries for teachers and administrators. Kids need school supplies so badly that they need to beg the public for money.
The general public would be completely understanding of hiring paraprofessionals to assist teachers if the schools knew how to budget their money. The don’t even try. They don’t know what budgeting means and how to live within a budget. If they get more money in the budget, which they generally do every year, they raise even higher the already high salaries of teachers and administrators.
Gaetani would cut seven percent, what’s the problem?
Does Trump appear stupid enough to Jung that he actually believes he’s pulled anything off with this phony peace treaty. So you trust Putin or Jung, anyone?

The roads in Pittsfield are still terrible. Nearly May in a few days and I see very little improvement in all of the holes on so many roads. The road crew was out the other day on a street near my house fixing a few holes and unbelievably people were going by honking at them, swearing at them, and calling them names. They are obviously confused as to who to blame for the deplorable condition of the roads in this city. They should be marching in front of Pittsfield City Hall with signs and chanting “Fix the Roads”. It’s not the fault of the road crews that the roads are not being fixed. It’s the people in charge of this city who are to blame.
Well stated Pat, call the top brass and complain, these men and woman in the trenches should be respected.
Pat, Ann Drive, Alfred and the rest of the roads up that way are in terrible shape! I read where these chapter 90 road funds are sat on and have a feeling the leaders funnel the funds elsewhere.
I would not be shocked that the funds are going elsewhere and this should be looked into. The situation with the roads is at a crisis point. Even when and if all of these holes are filled, they will all open up next winter bigger and deeper than ever. It will take months to get all of these roads back to even a little bit normal for this summer. Each year has been getting worse with this year being off the charts for being dangerous. The local politicians need to have a plan and soon. This is a poor community and people can’t afford all of these vehicle repairs due to roads that in many instances are so bad that they should be closed until they are repaired.
I know a couple of people up in the Ann drive, Alfred drive area. Those people pay HUGE taxes and their roads are 3rd rate……gotta blame the ward councilor for not hammering the mayors on this. They have been bad for years. Piss poor management in this city.
I also think road funds have been used elsewhere or absconded going back a couple of mayors.
Either our road construction specs are inadequate for our climate…or the contractors get away with not constructing them to spec. I very seldom travel South St., but accessed it over a bombed out like Crofut St. the other day to head south. There were several areas between Crofut and the bridge over the railroad tracks were the top layer of pavement is gone. Wasn’t the road completely resurfaced about 3 years ago?
With that being said, well let’s just say they’re not as smooth as Chucky G.
Fill the pothole under the bridge on hubbard ave, send someone there everyday at 7am to check it till it filled .Sweep the streets now.Parks needs to open and clean and paint Belanger field restrooms everyday at 7am
