R.I.P., GUNNY … COMEY COMES OUT … & … TRUMP’S FOLLY

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE WEDNESDAY APRIL 18, 2018) — While wondering when spring takes off its winter clothing, we present three items on today’s edition of  THE PLANET, noting in the process the call for all to avoid catty sniping and the “did-to/did-not” of the sandbox. Keep it as adult as you can, and if you can’t, you belong in other pastures, those where such steaming plop pies blend without notice.

GOODBYE, GUNNY — It was with shock and sadness that THE PLANET learned of the death from pneumonia of actor R. Lee Ermey, 74. Stanley Kubrick put Ermey on the map by casting the former Marine gunny sgt. in the role of Marine Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Full Metal Jacket. We met Ermey when we interviewed him in 1989. Reader’s Digest version of a novel-length story, that led to a collaboration with him on a novel and screenplay project called The Gunny. We worked on it for a couple years before going our separate ways. The Gunny didn’t make it into print or on the screen but not before we had our 15 minutes with Kubrick himself. The highlight of our time together included our lone dalliance into Tinseltown. Turned out, we loathed Hollywood to the point where we finally eschewed hotels and took up Ermey’s invitation to live with him and his family at his home in PalmdaleWe worked hard, played a little, and relaxed even harder, enjoying long talks, cigars, annotating FMJ, tons of laughs, and otherwise feeding the mutual trust that comes but rarely in these kinds of collaborative business-artistic relationships. Beneath the leathered exterior that brought on countless roles as soldiers, cops, crooked politicians, judges, and other authoritarian types, Ermey was kind, generous, soft-spoken, funny, and just fun to be around. He marked a phase in our life and career that left a mark on all we would subsequently be and do. Semper Fi, Gunny. We hoist one in your name.

COM-EY COM-SA — Yesterday, amid one of the manufactured publicity storms only the overheated PR machine can generate, James Comey’s tell-all on President Donald Trump flew the coop. This carefully trained homing pigeon circled Washington, D.C. several times, describing an arc that the rest of the world took as a sign of … a sign of what THE PLANET wouldn’t presume to say simply because we haven’t yet read the book, having lent our copy of the preview galley proofs to Sean Hannity. The book has The Republican National Committee worried, and the dumb-dumbs there took the bait in launching their “Lyin’ Comey” website. Trump himself should ask a percentage of sales for the job he’s done in also promoting this page thinner. For those interested, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership is on sale now in bookstores and online. There, we did our part flacking.

CHEMICALLY YOURS — Trump’s ill-conceived strike on Syrian chemical weapons won’t make a dent in Syrian President Bashar Assad’s ability to keep these gaseous killers in his combat arsenal. Chemical weapons experts — Gregory Koblentz at George Mason University, for example — agree that Trump’s volley was little more than symbolic. Problem is, it has further enraged and emboldened Assad’s considerable power base. Shortly after the U.S. attack, Assad supporters “flooded the streets in Damascus in a demonstration of support” (USA Today, April 17, 4A). It should be noted, too, that, because of the nature of manufacturing. the U.S. attacks deliberately avoided targets that, if hit, would have sent clouds of deadly gas airborne. Bottom line here is that Trump’s hypocritical venture must go down as a blunder — not a bang but a whimper unworthy of this country. America foist, like heck.

Finally, rest in peace Barbara Bush, a tough, resolute, r-e-a-l woman we greatly admired.

And one by one, we await our turn, a finality, an inevitability that can only rest peacefully in life with complete and joyful acceptance. Go happily into the night. We ARE the night, and the night is in the stars.

If Trump did not ask Comey to ignore the Flynn problem and they fire Comey for his lack of loyalty to the Don he would not have obstructed justice,Trump is guilty on that act alone, and then there is the rest of the Trump mess spreading day by day and is now a complete and total embarrassment.
China’s economy grew by almost 7% and we were targeting 5 to not be in a deficit and reality gives us two plus.Trump has taken a dump on the dining room table of America

Without using disgusting bathroom terms, I will say that if that is what President Trump is doing School Committee then I hope he keeps on keeping on since the economy is doing great, jobs are plentiful for everyone including historically high job numbers for African Americans. ISIS has been defeated. Americans have more money in their wallets and pocketbooks. We no longer have to walk around on tip toes trying to be politically correct. The swamp is slowly being drained and even California is beginning to see that liberal policies are BAD for their country. Go President Trump!!

One curios thing about the Syrian missile strike was that that they tossed something like 107 missiles at their 3 targets. At about one million bucks apiece as I understand it. That seems a bit overkill does it not, if the objective was to take out three buildings?

Unless of course the underlying objective was to create business for a friendly defense contractor. 100 million dollars worth of missiles and latest reports from Israel says it really accomplished nothing. That wasted money could have bought health insurance for a lot of people or fixed some roads in Pittsfield.

Can you say…..train wreck in Washington?

Why isn’t anyone putting down those extremely liberal countries France and England for their part in what some say was not a good idea to send a humanitarian message to Syria not to use chemical weapons on their people? As usual all we hear is Trump this and Trump that, but two other very important countries (or at least Liberals used to want us to model ourselves after them) also thought sending a strong message to Syria was a good idea. Not to mention broad support across the world. Only Russia and China (naturally) voted against the strike when it was brought before the United Nations.

As for protests against America, that has been going on forever. If we dropped bags of money from the sky, they would say that America was trying to influence the events in their country.

Lots of food stamp handouts, but no job creation and really no concern about job creation coming from the Progressives. African Americans are doing so much better with jobs under President Trump.

James Comey covered up and lied about the clear crimes of Hillary Rodham Clinton. He is a discredited and disgraced former FBI director. Anything he says at this point in his disgruntled exposed state is fake news at best.

He has proven to the world that he can’t be trusted. Just because he writes a book means nothing. He is looking to cash in on him shameful fame and turn it into fortune. If he had done his job, Hillary would be in prison.

Comey was in Obama’s back pocket. He discredited the FBI. No reasonable person would ever take his book seriously.

Everyone associated with James Comey is either a Hillary or Obama supporter. What does that tell us? James Comey was leaking all over the place, but has the nerve to call President Trump a mob boss.

James Comey was DIRECTOR of the FBI, but had a serious leaking problem. I completely agree that the man was a disgrace to the FBI and should have been fired a long time ago. It’s all about the money now for Mr. Comey since he need quick cash without his job. Telling lies in a book seems to be the new American way to make cash. I will NOT be reading it. I’ve heard all I need to know from his interview with another Hillary supporter George Stephanopoulos.

That’s another thing, all of these people speaking out against President Trump always have ties to either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. No there is no agenda there.

When you subtract all the illegal and illegitamate votes crooked Hillary got, Trump won by a major landslide and would again. He would wipe the floor with discredited Comey.

NOBODY is talking about war Dusty. We are talking about something you Progressive just can’t wrap your heads around which is that being powerful militarily does scare off people who would try to take over your country. It doesn’t mean you actually USE the weapons. They are there as a deterrent. A deterrent is a thing that discourages someone or some country from doing something.

Speaking of deterrents Pat. Nicki Haley was made to look like a complete fool on the world stage when she spoke of the sanctions Trump agreed to put on Russia. Then Putin called Trump and told him not to do it and Trump caved like a Mr Pillow.

Do you want to go to war with Russia? I thought Progressives wanted to avoid war at all costs? Nearly 1/6 of our Federal budget is interest payments on debt. The Republicans just added to our debt load with massive tax cuts. How can Republicans run on a platform of fiscal accountability then increase our Federal spending deficit like a bunch of rock stars in a room filled with strippers and cocaine?

Both parties pander to the extreme fanatics while the moderate socially liberal (or at least mind your own business) – financially responsible majority of the US disenfranchises from politics.

The missile strike was not intended to terminate Syrian chem arms program. Assads’ actions are an outstripping of his comfort provided by supporting Russia and regional Islamic Terrorist organizations and Hezbollah.. It was more aimed at Russia. In case you noticed, they set up an air force base and intend to establish a permanent naval/air presence there.

Countering their influence and strategic goal is valid today as it was during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the first step is calling their bluffs while increasing their exposure.

School Committee why no mention of all the liberal journalists in this country being represented by Hillary Clinton’s lawyer? Is it OK for them to do the same thing as Hannity? Jake Tapper and Juan Williams just to name a few from the left, are represented by Bob Barnett who is Hillary Clilnton’s lawyer. Attorney Bob Barnett who also represented Hillary loyalist George Stephanoupoulos in a book deal. Do you see the hypocrisy?

Whatever the liberal media and Democrats are screaming about is usually what they themselves have been doing all along. Same with Russia. They scream that President Trump coddles Russia, but Obama actually did do that for 8 years and nobody on the left complained. It’s such a double standard and people are sick of it.

Trying to deflect again I see. Getting rid of conservative voices has become an obsession for the left. These lawyers have clients from BOTH side of politics and that’s the point. I don’t believe that Trump’s lawyer has only 3 clients and even if he did, consulting with an attorney is NOT a crime.

Deflecting what? Your opening statement was that Hillary Clinton’s lawyer represented all the liberal journalists. He does not. then you make up a completely different unsupported argument.

Make a statement then follow it up with supporting information. Don’t jumble 5 unrelated statements in one paragraph and act as if you put together a cohesive argument.

What does being conservative mean to you exactly? I think you and the right have an identity crisis. I am a Republican and I am ashamed of how our side says one thing then does another.

Consulting an attorney is not a crime. Who said it was? SPECIFY THE PERSON. I WANT TO SEE THE QUOTE.

NO WAY are you a Republican or even an Independent!!! Now think about how crazy your statement sounds. How could Hillary’s lawyer represent all journalists? He does, however, represent a LOT of liberal journalists. Where is the outrage in liberal land? Yes, he represents others who are not liberal, but your party is going after people like Sean Hannity who have used Trump’s lawyer and I am sure that people who are NOT Conservative have also used Trump’s lawyer. Liberals DO NOT have a case on this issue.

School committee is a rubber stamp for bad ideas in education.Twenty years ago Superintendant Travis was told because of budget problems to put together a High Scool consolidation budget that went to grade 10,11,12 in the Taconic building.Yes,consolidation is just a request away.
School budgets are now on the City Council.Marcettis demand to Mccandless for thoughtful budgets that reflect a city of poverty is never going to happen.Mr Marchetti you cant tell the schools how to spend their budget but you can tell them what their budget will be.
Now the high cost of schools cant be scapegoated to yon tayor elias as now its you tyer and white kroll. You elitist are killing the poor people in town. One more though is none of you can critically think.Walk away Marchetti if you can cut the schools, take an interest in other besides your clique.Cut 4 million from schools and tell him to figure it out in a hurry.
