PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY APRIL 28, 2020) — As the lady of the night said to the bishop, “Just because you see confetti doesn’t mean there’s a wedding.”

Things aren’t what they seem, and, in a sense, our entire professional career has been to get to the bottom of things — or what the philosophers call “truth.” We channel Wallace Stevens in letting “be” be the finale of “seems,” because we actually knew the Emperor of Ice Cream. With that circumspect opening, allow THE PLANET to clear out the files.

———- ooo ———-

CAR 54, WHERE ARE YOU? — We begin with this experience at the Pittsfield Police Department, reported first hand and in the first person by community activist and local landlord Alex Blumin: “I just went to Pittsfield Police Department to report a crime [Alex sent the message 4/24 at 6:37 p.m.] — assault and battery on my neighbor next door, a Muslim man in his 70s. He’s from a village in Pakistan, and his English level is very low. He can barely speak. He explained through gestures and broken English that two black guys assaulted him and searched his pockets for money. I advised him to call the police, but he refused for some reason. Since this is my street — the intersection of Hamlin and First Street — I am involved anyway, so I went to talk to the police. I entered the police station, pushed the button, and officer Murphy appeared, asking me if I had an emergency. I told him no, it wasn’t about me. Murphy interrupted me: ‘Mr. Blumin,’ he said. ‘You must do all business with us on the line, [not in person]. Unless you have an emergency, you must leave the station due to the corona virus.’ I was shocked. I can go to Home Depot every day. I can go to Walmart every day. I can shop for groceries regardless of the coronavirus. But our brace police do not allow people inside the police station, even though we finance the department with about $10 million in taxes each year. I am just speechless. What a disgusting mayor — Tyer. What a terrible village — Pittsfield.”

THE PLANET thanks Blumin for the information, for how seriously he takes his role as a citizen, and for having the stones to use his actual name. As for the police, y’all can sleep safely. Chief Mike Wynn  just finished reading “The Poky Little Puppy” and is onto “The Tale of Peter Rabbit.” It’s for the children, you know.

———- ooo ———-

MOON MAROONED IN SWOON — When THE PLANET polled councilors for their thoughts on “The Connell Measure” — Chris Connell’s idea to keep Mayor CRAYOLOA-19 from overtaxing citizens for virus-fighting funds — we heard from 10 of the 11. Even Ty Cobb would love that average. The only one not to enter our orbit? Ward 1’s Helen Moon. We heard scuttlebutt from the D.A.’s office that says Mayor CRAYOLA and the district attorney “told Moon not to respond.” We haven’t confirmed that, but as yet, no one in the know has denied it. If Helen of Coy wants to chime in herself, she’s more than welcome at this address. [PREGNANT PAUSE] Gosh, you don’t think she’s afraid of us, do you?

———- ooo ———-

CONNELL PLANS ACTION — Speaking of “The Measure,” Connell isn’t wasting time putting deeds behind his syllables. He tells THE PLANET, “My plan to present it will be at the first meeting in May, on the 12th.  I was actually going to wait until the FEMA grant was presented to the council to insure we were actually going to be receiving it. However with more funds now in the works, I think it’s in the best interest of the city to try to get out in front of this and hopefully get this revenue account set up (if it’s passed by the council) … before any grants are accepted and then go into the general fund.” As we have said and will keep repeating, this measure isn’t only about saving poor Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski a few tax dollars. It will be a measure of how much this new council wants to do their oath-sworn job of being co-governors with the mayor. That means serving as a check and balance, providing accountability to the citizens they represent, and never being a rubber stamp. [SECOND PREGNANT PAUSE] As you can see, our cynicism actually serves as our optimism’s final safe harbor.

———- ooo ———-

LYSOL SHMY-SOL — Can we put to rest the invented “controversy” over President Trump’s remarks on “injecting bleach.” He never advised anyone to inject bleach.  Courtesy of THE 5th DENTIST, one of our newer and most informed commentators and someone who’s deep into the medical industry, here be the President’s actual words:

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. So I asked Bill a question that probably some of you are thinking of, if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light — and I think you said that that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that too. It sounds interesting.

ACTING UNDER SECRETARY BRYAN: We’ll get to the right folks who could.

THE PRESIDENT: Right. And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that. So, that, you’re going to have to use medical doctors with. But it sounds — it sounds interesting to me. So we’ll see. But the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute, that’s — that’s pretty powerful.

“I didn’t see where he told anyone to inject swallow or in anyway use bleach or disinfectant in their bodies,” 5th said.  Neither did THE PLANET. We will, though, add this thought: Anyone stupid enough to inject or swallow Lysol based on The Presiden’t remarks should be applauded for doing us all a favor by dying. The fewer people with THAT level of stupidity, the better our chances for survival — all of us.

———- ooo ———-

MAY YOUR DAYS BE … — MERRY & BRIGHT, one of THE PLANET‘s most well-known and prolific participants, raised a series of vital questions with respect to the mayor’s most recent TV pep talk. Here’s the comment, in full:

Finally broke down and watched Mayor Crayola’s latest Friday update. Made sure I did it before I ate so I wouldn’t barf. First thing I noticed is the weekly message was almost 3 minutes shorter than the week before. She seems to have less and less to tell us hardworking taxpayers, is she hiding something? LOL Mayor Crayola we all know after almost six weeks of this that we need to wash our hands and stay home! This little speech took up about 2 minutes of her update. How about explaining to us why there is no traffic control? Why Pittsfield speed limits have evidently been changed to 70 mph on Dalton Ave. & Merrill Rd? Why people are allowed to blow red lights and stop signs? Have heard that the police officers are working 7 days on 7 days off with hazard pay and overtime pay even though they are not working overtime. Could she explain this? Young mothers and children are spending their days picking up garbage and nicely bagging it by the road for the DPW to pick up. Notice that there have been some of these bags on New York Avenue by the deer for at least a week. While taking a walk to watch the deer I saw 3 DPW trucks drive by these bags, two dump trucks and one pick-up with nothing in the back of their trucks. So Mayor Crayola, why are we paying these trucks to drive around all day? They most certainly are not filling potholes. Why is the Health/Police/Fire departments not enforcing the amount of people going to Walmart and Market 32? It is time for our City Council to demand a update from Mayor Crayola and Eddie Munster-Cufflinks to divulge who is getting paid in this City for doing absolutely nothing. Or do they even know, or care, of course they are also getting paid and have basically free health insurance. Meanwhile make sure you pay your taxes on time so Mayor Crayola has enough money to keep her inside circle of friends happy.

M&B has asked vital questions that DEMAND answers, pronto. Therefore, THE PLANET has forwarded the comment in full to the mayor, requesting responses. We also included a private message that shall, for the moment at least, remain that way.

What’s that we say about the phone not ringing?

Nonetheless, we don’t discourage easily!

Trump was clearly talking of the potential possibility, down the road, of an injection that would cure Corona, not ingestion. Just more fake news by the lame stream media, and all the idiots that junped to conclusions and flew off the handle without watching the press conference, which by the way I did, live.

Speaking of remedies for corona, the FBI actually raided & shut down a medical facility for giving hi-dose vitamin C i.v.s to frontline workers. This is a proven method of reducing the impact of & prevention of covid symptoms.
Story can be found on http://www.informationliberation.com

Shocked to hear that our police station is shut down for walk-ins. They are hard enough to get ahold of via phone for non- emergencies.

Thanks Dan for putting the drinking bleach nonsense to bed once and for all. I might also add that our president and others on his team are exhausted from trying to save the country on very little sleep so we should all keep that in mind. Everyone is exhausted from this virus nightmare, but we don’t have to go out and face a roomful of reporters everyday, many of whom do not like President Trump.

“The Shameful Legacy of Three TV Anchors

Sara Pentz

A Journal for Western Man– Issue XLI– September 5, 2005

In a nine month period between the end of 2004 and the middle of 2005, all three of the major networks ‘lost’ their star news anchors––Tom Brokaw (November 2004), Dan Rather (March 2005), and Peter Jennings (August 7, 2005). Tom Brokaw of NBC chose to retire. Dan Rather ‘resigned’ in disgrace from CBS after he orchestrated one of the most biased reports every produced for a television network. Peter Jennings died at 67 years.

Each of these men leaves a shameful legacy on the face of American journalism. They led their networks into a shocking wave of politically biased reporting and did absolutely nothing to rebuke those who indulged in it––because, it was their agenda, too. They knew exactly what they were doing. Each is responsible for the blackening tarnish that covers all journalists today because of their partisan politics……”

This nightmare is a terrible tragedy. I wish politicians would put their differences aside until we get through the coronavirus pandemic. 25% of the World’s COVID-19 deaths are in the U.S.A. Tens of millions of American workers have lost their jobs and health insurance. We are in a recession and on the brink of economic collapse. The World as we know it has changed for the worse. After the coronavirus pandemic, we will have to deal with the debt pandemic. I feel sorry for all the people who are dipping in the 401k’s and IRA’s. I hope the workers’ savings accounts don’t get wiped out. Lastly, I think it is myopic and unfair that most people “Blame Linda Tyer” for all that is wrong in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The mess that is Pittsfield politics has been going on for decades! We are in a public health crisis. I hope Mayor Linda Tyer proves all of her critics wrong.

Johnathan, do you feel sorry enough to take a 10 percent cut in your federal pension, to help with the absolutely outrageous pork barrel spending that is taking place in the name of Covid? We as a nation are on the brink of collapse for sure now, in more ways than one, and paying people 600 per week for 14 weeks on top of their unemployment is a sure fire way to keep the economy in the tank. This Covid thing has been turned into a democratic conspiracy against Trump by the demorats, who are desperate and know sleepy joe can’t string two sentences together. And how do you feel about 25 million for The Kennedy Center and the billions in handouts for private colleges with overpaid do little professors?

P.S. Tyer is a disgrace to the oath of office and could care less for people like you.

I think people are hurting out there and they need extra cash to pay their bills. Like everyone else, I disagree with pork barrel spending. I support Mayor Linda Tyer in Pittsfield politics, but I do not agree with all of her policies and decisions. Pittsfield has very high levels of municipal taxes, fees, and debts. All of this was true prior to 2016. I hope that state and local governments will receive a federal bailout soon. I hope the economy doesn’t collapse. We have a debt crisis. Please stay safe out there.

There is an article in a Eagle paper Sunday speaking of sheriff Bowlers Covid virus infection. Happily he seems to be getting over it. But in the article it says this

Bowler is one of more than 400 county residents who have tested positive for the virus since the outbreak began. Dozens of Berkshire residents have succumbed to it.

Can anyone find any local dashboards that talk of dozens of Berkshire residents succumbing to the virus? Was this a Freudian slip?

You won’t find it because whenever BHS can, it posts addresses as “unknown”. They desperately want to keep the deaths under 100 (originally 25) and cases under 500 so they do what they can to under report it or report it incorrectly.

Sounds to me like officer Murphy handled this Blumin fellow in an entirely professional manner. And while there are exceptions to everything, the police are not generally in the business of acting on hearsay reports, and by he way, anybody can file a report through the police website, so I am told. If the victim wants to report what sounds like a robbery the onus is on the victim, and if Blumin could garner the basic facts so can the police, who also can arrange an interpreter, if needed. The police are in lockdown mode due to the Corona scare which has been overblown biggly.

This whole thing about Blumin getting blown off, as well as Merry and Brights’ concerns about policing and staffing, as well as many other comments here about the state of policing in city, can be addressed in a press release drafted in 15 minutes, or a 5 minute phone call or email to you, either by the mayor or the chief. Perhaps despite Tyers best efforts police have a staffing issue still for some reason, and I expect the cops are hunkering down because they don’t want a case of Corona. Personally anybody who drinks that Mexican urine deserves to get sick. There’s a reason they put a lime in it ya know.

Come on let’s be realistic. We can’t have any cops go down to Covid, and it sounds like Murphy was only doing his job. What bothers me is we have had all these repetitive calls over the years and Mayor or Police never addressed the problem. Like over the weekend some dude calling nine 11 several times and ppd had to respond to a no problem type answer, this has to stop. The other is the spike in bad drivers in the area. Passing on double lines, speeding, cutting you off, driving in your lane, red lights? This summer will be hell here if we don’t bare down now in the streets. And if you see people jogging in the road don’t try to run them down. Be careful of bicyclists also.

I don’t recall the details of the modified scheduling, but the result was reduced hours/manpower. It is not surprising that Mr. Blumin was blown off. I’ve heard stories of other people trying to report crimes that were also blown off and basically told, “you deal with it, we’re not coming” manner.

Since we are all grasping and we each have become authorities on what he said what it means and how to interpret it. instead of reading the official record. Let me take a stab at it,
Is it possible in a moment of weakness he felt bad about not adding enough monies for Planned Parenthood and the Pelosi crowd that he attempted to make up for it? Hell anyone’s guess is as good as the next.

Sorry Dan. You’re not Trump’s press secretary endlessly trying to spin his BS into gold. Printing what he said does not reflect the context in which he said it or the tone of his voice or the way he said it. He was serious and having one of those senior moments wherein his mouth was voicing out loud what his brain was thinking but shouldn’t have relesed into the air. We all saw what he said. There is no spinning it, there is no “what he really meant is….” He said it. Period. If he didn’t say it, then why did the maker of Lysol come out and warn people? And since his comment, calls to state poison control centers are up significantly including an Illinois woman who mixed bleach with Listerine because Trump said it would fight the virus. Clearly, many of his faithful listened, believed, and acted.

While it may bother you and others on your site, he screwed up. So what? Move on. All problems and politics are local, and we’ve got enough of those. We can whine and complain all we want, but the only scenarios we can truly impact are the crap going on right around us.

There are way too many SENIOR moments coming out of the mouth of Joe Biden who is benefiting from COVID-19 since he doesn’t have to make so many public appearances and embarrass himself with his inability to talk coherently. The far left doesn’t care as long as he can win the election. He will be controlled from behind the scenes to promote the far left socialist/communist agenda.

This was what caught my interest.

The first thing that came to mind when I started thinking about it, was chemotherapy, where we poison the patient in hopes that the poison will kill cancer before it kills the patient. But there is actually a procedure that uses hydrogen peroxide….you know, the substitute for mercurochrome for treating (disinfecting) skinned knees? Well, it turns out there is an intravenous technique used to kill internal bacteria and viruses using that common solution. Over at American Thinker, Andrea Widburg explains.

So true. People on the far left will grasp at anything to put down this president while he is working his butt off to save this country. All the while ignoring every stupid thing that comes out of Biden’s mouth like not wanting to close the borders when this COVID-19 began. Also their silence on sexual assault by his accuser. So hypocritical.

China never told anyone how serious this virus had become, how contagious and very bad for some people. President Trump NEVER said this was a hoax. Biden didn’t want to close the borders and had to walk it back when he realized how serious the virus is as did New York Democrat Bill DeBlasio and many far left reporters on MSNBC and CNN who made fun of President Trump for closing off travel from China.

This is what the far left was trying to do. They didn’t want President Trump getting any attention from these Covid-19 meetings. They got rid of the rallies thanks to the COVID-19 and they were so glad about that. Now, with the help of their nasty far left reporters, they are so happy to get rid of the corona virus briefings. Lots of people got a lot of information from these briefings and it’s just further proof that they have no concern about the people in this country!!! Their socialist/communist agenda that ends with one world government is all they care about.

Great news! I watched it. It went well. Only 2 nasty reporter questions. The nastiest one was a long blonde haired reporter asking the President if he thought he should be re-elected since 55,000 people have died from corona virus so far on his watch. The president kept his cool and answered honestly that one death is too many. It was a stupid question, probably from somebody from NPR or MSNBC, that people dying from corona virus is grounds for losing an election would mean that leaders from 184 countries around the world will all soon be replaced. Ironically the people of China have been trying to get rid of their leader for some time, but just like Putin in Russia, it seems that Xi Jinping of China now has achieved one party leadership in China and intends to make himself the permanent president. This is what happens in one party countries….they end up with dictators.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—At his press conference last night, President Trump told everyone to stay hydrated and drink lots of water.

“Water’s tremendous, very powerful stuff,” he said. “You won’t believe the things they can do with water. Water balloons. Water slides. Water beds. It’s amazing. You can freeze it and make ice, I’m told. Ice is great for lots of things. Ice cream. Ice cubes. Igloos.”

“Anyway, drink water.”

Horrified journalists scrambled to warn Americans not to drown themselves in their pools and bathtubs.

“Trump says water is good — but this is very misleading,” said Rachel Maddow. “Did you know that water kills many people every year? These dangerous, unhinged remarks from the president could cause many to drown themselves. Plus, do you know what’s hidden in water? Sharks. This president wants you to die from a shark attack!”

Representatives for various bottled water companies quickly released a statement distancing themselves from the president’s remarks and warning everyone not to submerge themselves in the ocean for minutes at a time.

Water also contains hydrogen which can be made into bombs. And if you drink it and lie down on your side you run the risk of it blowing a big hole in your belly. Stay away from water. You could ruin your garden if it is not applied properly.

So Dan, it has been almost 24 hours since you asked questions of Mayor Crayola. Hope you didn’t ruin your day waiting for her to answer. She evidently did not read my question about the speed limit on Dalton Avenue. I was passed by a gray SUV weaving in and out of traffic going approximately 75 mph this afternoon right through red lights so I guess she did not get the word out to the PPD either. Speaking of the PPD, someone should do a well-being check on Chief Mikey. He looks pretty disheveled lately during his reading sessions. Feel bad about Alex Blumin’s attempt to help his neighbor and his dealings with the PPD. Even before the the outbreak of the Corin19, when entering the PPD the welcome did not exist, it was more like don’t bother me, it is the same attitude if you call the non-emergency telephone number. Seems like the morale of the PPD is in the gutter while the Chief reads kids books. Another one of Mayor Crayola departments that is mismanaged. Thanks for your attempt in getting answers from Crayola.

This blog serves as great comical relief I must say. About the same 1/2 dozen commentators all hiding behind aliases, often complaining about transparency. The irony!
I also find it amusing that the author often claims that he does not “take sides” however there is never any criticism about Trump but constant justification for what he said. So interesting how Trump supporters were always “I like Trump because he means what he says.” Now, it’s all about “that’s not what he meant.” Such BS. Those are the same individuals that will probably make themselves a “Trumptini” of Clorox or other disinfectants, based on the recent suggestions he made at a press conference. Oops, sorry, that was sarcasm!
The constant criticism of the current mayoral administration seems unjust and again quite one-sided. Always critical but rarely a suggestion of how things should be done differently. So what if the Mayor asked our kids to color and send them to City Hall? I appreciated that, actually, as did my kid. You act as if that’s all she’s done during this crisis. I’ve seen plenty of other outreach and communication from her and the administration, if you were a credible journalist, you would give credit where credit is due. But I guess that’s asking a lot since you’re a blogger.
Connell as a watchdog? Please. More like PITA. He and Morandi aren’t doing themselves any favors by not supporting the City’s efforts in this COVID response, and residents will remember that when election season comes around. That goes for any councilor, actually. Morandi would have been voted out if he only had an opponent in the last election – calling ward 2 residents! Please step up!
Why are people so triggered by teachers and employees working from home? What makes them any different from other employees from other workplaces that are now working from home? Yeahhhh same on the City for being concerned about the safety and well-being of their employees! Shame!
Pittsfield is doing an excellent job responding to this crisis. The county is trending down and Pittsfied is leading that. Probably because we have great leadership in place.
Try some positivity every now and then – might be good for ya!

Mr. Blair,

Here are the answers to your questions.

“So what if the Mayor asked our kids to color and send them to City Hall?” My taxes went up hundreds last fiscal year, and hundreds more under Tyer in years prior. Crime went up alot too, as did water and sewer rates. To rub salt in the wound, she gave away millions of our tax dollars to connected GOBSIGs, like The Beacon Bomb. The least she could do is keep us Kapanskis updated on Corona, in a timely and accurate manner, and forget about the happy crap with the crayons. It’s analogous to the chief reading books to the kiddies while the city goes to hell in a handbasket. No matter how hard he is working, or what else he does, it doesn’t have a good look to Joe Taxpayer.

“Connell as a watchdog?” He’s as close as were ever going to get to the Aging Greek God, and thank God for him and Morandi, because at least they care about the taxpayers. The others are just rubber stamps.

“Why are people so triggered by teachers and employees working from home?” We are not triggered at all by teachers, or other employees working from home, short term, as long as they can actually work from home, and are actually working from home. Some jobs can be done at home, and some cannot. If they cannot, then people should be laid off, and not paid to stay home. Common Sense.

“What makes them any different from other employees from other workplaces that are now working from home?” Here’s what makes city employees different from other workplaces Tony. As Trump would say at a press conference as he prepares to unload on a reporter who asked a stupid question – are your ready, are you ready Tony? What makes them different is that all of us Kapanskis’ are paying their salary. It is not too much to ask how many employees and what positions.

And you say Tyer is doing a great job. She is. She is doing a great job spending taxpayers money foolishly, and now she wants to use $100,000 Community Preservation Fund money, which came from Kapanski homeowners like me, to help people that don’t have to pay property taxes, pay their rent. Is it any wonder we vent on the Almighty Planet Valenti?????????????????

Personally, I can’t wait until Dan gets a Planet App going so I can post standing in the check-out lines.

Joe

Wow – what a potty mouth you have, RN. Are you a union leader?

The fact is that 900 people did not die here. Original models of 2.2 million deaths has been continually reduced, now to under 60,000 – the same number of fatalities from last year’s flu season.
Do you still have a job? Be grateful, as many do not.
Is your employer able to continue on? Be grateful as many small businesses will not reopen.
All this economic chaos due to virus models that were over-exaggerated.
BMC is advertising for customers, as the hospital is nearly empty!

Time for the lockdowns to end. Leave the decisions to reopen businesses to the company owners! Leave the decisions whether or not to dine-in at restaurants to the customers. Those people in the high risk categories for covid should isolate themselves until they feel safe. Our civil liberties have been violated and it’s time for the stay-at-home orders to end!

RN, I thought the low number was because BHS was adulterating the count somehow and was changing records, causes of death and all manner of things to foster some as of yet undescribed conspiracy. I know the mentioned one at one time was to save the tourist business but so many of the venues closed down early before we here in the Commonwealth had even peaked so that made no sense.
I do have a question though that I could use your help with. If I recall correctly when I asked what the motive was for BHS to change numbers and lower the count thus affecting even further their revenue in the form of reimbursements I believe I was an %^&*#$% simpleton. Now Mr. Fritz has made a statement and he is referred to by you as an %^&#$% moron can you please tell me which you hold in higher esteem a simpleton or a moron and why? if you could also explain what adding an expletive does to either name that would be a bonus but I don’t want to seem like I am pushing the envelope.

The Haircut

Blessed are those that can give without remembering and take without forgetting.

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week. ’

The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week. ’

The cop was happy and left the shop.

The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week. ’

The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

As Ronald Reagan said: “Both politicians and diapers need to be changed often and for the same reason. ”

Oh yeah it looks like pets can be infected.

Many corona viruses are zoonotic. They can jump from species to species, the whole problem in the first place.
As it mutates COVID-19 will infect dogs and cats, cats seem to be genetically more susceptible as the is similar to attachment structure as FIP.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/animals.html

What to do if you own pets
Until we learn more about how this virus affects animals, treat pets as you would other human family members to protect them from a possible infection.

Do not let pets interact with people or other animals outside the household.
Keep cats indoors when possible to prevent them from interacting with other animals or people.
Walk dogs on a leash, maintaining at least 6 feet (2 meters) from other people and animals.
Avoid dog parks or public places where a large number of people and dogs gather.
There is a small number of animals around the world reported to be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, mostly after having contact with a person with COVID-19. Talk to your veterinarian if your pet gets sick or if you have any concerns about your pet’s health.

Open letter to Patrick Fennell

April 28, 2020

Re: The News today

Hello Pat,

U.S. Congress House of Representatives Chamber is extending its recess for a second time in April of 2020. It was 3 weeks until April 20, 2020. Then it was 5 weeks until May 4, 2020. Now, it will be beyond 5 weeks. The U.S. Senate will convene on May 4, 2020. 25 percent of coronavirus cases are in the U.S.A. Some believe President Donald Trump is unfit to deal with the public health crisis.

In less than 3 weeks, the number of U.S. COVID-19 cases doubled to over one million American people infected with coronavirus. Over 58,300 Americans have died. Despite the huge increases in coronavirus cases, protesters want the shut down to end without evidenced base scientific data.

We are in a “Great Recession” with tens of millions of American workers who have lost their jobs and health insurance. The difference between now (2020) and then (2008) is that there is a lot more public and private debt in our economic and financial system today. It will take decades for our economy to stabilize from the trauma of the debt crisis.

According to the Boston Globe, the Holyoke Soldiers Home saw almost one Veteran die per day of coronavirus. Nearly 70 Veterans have died at the long-term care facility.
Source: “Almost every day has brought a new death from coronavirus at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke; 67 have died so far”, By Hanna Krueger, Globe Staff, April 27, 2020
