PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY AUG. 26, 2020) — THE PLANET has ventured to Lands Unknown (LU) for R&R, but we stay wired to events and happenings, from the insignificant nothings that make like miserable for Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski to the hurricanes and wildfires that, as “acts of God,” impinge on this non-Paradisal planet (lower case). We shall continue from LU on our regular schedule, at brevity or length as the mood and topic fit.

  • “I Have a Dread” — On Friday, a rally takes place in Washington, D.C. to mark the 57th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Another reverend, this time Al Sharpton, leads the March on Washington, dubbed “Get Off Our Necks.” Talk about preaching to the choir. Sharpton said the rally would feature family members who know the pain of losing loved ones at the hands of the police. Good, that, but what about families who lost loved ones at the hands of criminals and thugs? In a bite of irony, the same day will see fireworks over the Washington Monument to mark the end of the Republican National Convention.
  • Glamor and Hot Air — Speaking of the convention, last night Melania Trump spoke from the White House Rose Garden, a plant-fest beautifully redesigned by the First Lady. Melania, who along with Gisele Bundchen (Mrs. Tom Brady) and MRS. PLANET are the three most glamorous women in the world, spoke on women’s issues. The RNC’s first night featured the usual coronation stem-winding, a wiz-boom-bah of ideology, promises, and hot air.
  • ‘Come to Jesus’ — THE PLANET found Kim Guilfoyle’s speech embarrassing. The former FOX pundit and Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend delivered it with the awful theatrics of a fundamentalist preacher at a tent crusade. Problem: The tent was empty. She came off like a bimbo.
  • Race to the Finish — Much more effective was the convention’s focus on race, particularly allegations of the GOP being “racist.” From the Associated PressThe bluntest comments on the former front came from former National Football League running back Herschel Walker, who spoke of his decades-long close relationship with Trump.

“It hurt my soul to hear the terrible names that people called Donald: The worst one is ‘racist,’ ” said Walker, who is Black. “I take it as a personal insult that people would think I’ve had a 37-year friendship with a racist. People who think that don’t know what they’re talking about. Growing up in the Deep South, I’ve seen racism up close. I know what it is. And it isn’t Donald Trump.”

Walker was joined by other Black Trump supporters, including White House staffer Ja’Ron Smith, Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones (D), [and] Maryland congressional candidate Kim Klacik (R).

Jones … made the case that Democrats were harming African Americans: “The Democratic Party does not want Black people to leave their mental plantation. We’ve been forced to be there for decades and generations.”

Haley, the first Indian American female governor in the country, took a broader pass at the issue, denouncing the idea of systemic racism.

“Here is one more important area where our president is right: He knows that political correctness and cancel culture are dangerous and just plain wrong,” Haley said. “In much of the Democratic Party, it’s now fashionable to say that America is racist. That is a lie. America is not a racist country.”

  • City Hall Reopening — The Kapanski’s can finally re-enter city hall beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1. We The People’s place of business will be open 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday or by appointment. THE PLANET endorses the city’s caution with respect to COVID-19. Also, the bookworms and the bums will be pleased to see the Pittsfield library open for business, usual hours.
  • Impropriety — The Proprietor’s Lodge, a.k.a. the ex-ITAM on Pontoosuc Lake, has been the source of much discussion here. THE PLANET can’t speak first-hand of the joint. We’ve never been and don’t intend to start now, with or without a pandemic. Friends and acquaintances who have had repast there have been unimpressed. Speaking of Pontoosuc, if it’s not Matt Reilly’s, we’re not going.

That’s it for now. THE PLANET must tend to our bees.

Donald Trump called neo Nazi’s “very fine people”. That was the very definition of systemic racism! I still cannot believe that he is the U.S. President. What ever happened to “Liberty and Justice for All” that defeated Hitler’s Germany in 1945?
Mike Pence is a religious nut-job! The White House is ran by a moral hypocrite and a religious extremist.

Italy was so frightened of being called “racist” they they refused to stop travel from China to their country until it was too late. They paid a heavy price in a very high death toll trying to be politically correct. Joe Biden put a label on President Trump for stopping travel from China to our country. Joe accused him of hating all foreigners. President Trump saved millions of lives from the deadly virus by his travel ban.

Actually since the virus was already here by the time he did the ban the damage was already starting. And then he slow walked the testing, social distancing and face mask controls that were our only avenues of stopping or slowing the virus. He is personally responsible for at least 150,00 of the dead in America. he STILL is doing nothing that will help. He is promoting wannabee cures that he and his family are profiting from even though they have not been properly vetted by the real medical community.
His tunnel vision base will be the only ones foolish enough to try his “miracle cures”. More objective people will wait till a vaccine that has been through approved trials comes along. I know the truth hurts sometimes Pat but I am putting it out there just in case there are people on this site that still have some control over part of their brains.
And that leaves you out. Sadly.

Wait what? Personally responsible for those deaths? Are we holding Baker responsible for the 8,000+ dead in this state, or Cuomo for the 32,000+ in NY? Has he been perfect? Absolutely not, but who the hell has in respect to the virus? He mobilized an incredibly fast response and we never ran into a triage situation or shortage of ventilators. We absolutely fell short on PPE.

I suspect you also blame Fauci for 150,000+ deaths because he promoted taking cruises, not wearing masks, and said the virus wasn’t a substantial threat on multiple occasions.

There’s going to be much more to this story. Sooner than later, given recent developments. The chart below is one of the best visualizations I have seen in terms of capturing the absurdity of our COVID response – and what is at stake as we move forward. Our response to COVID thus far has arguably led to the loss of more “life-years” than COVID itself and the divergence is growing every day.

https://twitter.com/EthicalSkeptic/status/1298643179017732108/photo/1

If you want to get into the weeds, these are probably the two best sources for data driven, non-hysterical analysis of COVID.

https://twitter.com/EthicalSkeptic
https://twitter.com/youyanggu

One of the takeaways, which fits the data perfectly both in the U.S. and abroad, is that herd immunity kicks in once about 20% of a population is infected. Which threshold has already been reached in the northeast, and has likely arrived in many southern states and explains their abrupt and steep decline in cases in the last week or so. Models predicted this. But the “experts” given a voice by the media have always suggested 60% was the likely threshold, and so almost nobody looked to herd immunity as a possible explanation for, say, the course of COVID in NYC. Infections and deaths continued to skyrocket for a full month after the lockdown was put in place, yet, when the numbers finally did come down, everyone immediately concluded – to the point of militancy – “see, the lockdowns worked!”

The stupidity makes my head hurt. But, as we well know, about half our population is willing to be led by their noses to any destination that’s unfriendly to Trump, so it’s not that hard to understand how this all happened. But moving forward, we have absolutely no excuse to continue this madness.

One other bit of info. With respect to specific immunity for recovered patients, you can find a gazillion articles in the press focusing on negative speculation about whether patients will be immune afterwards. So-called experts point to declining numbers of anti-bodies over time as evidence to make their case. Thing is, those antibodies are made by a type of T-immune cells that learn to recognize the virus as an invader. The T-cells are the gun, the antibodies are the bullets it fires. All that matters is the durability of those T-cells. And new research shows that they appear to be extremely stable over time. Potentially providing immunity for years. But that’s not the kind of news that sells in Pandemia, a world fueled by panic porn, false claims of expertise and ignorant self-righteousness.

Maybe knowledge and objectivity will win out in the end. Here’s an encouraging sign – that this article even made it into publication. Interesting read for anyone open to reason.

(see https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-08-13/covid-spread-is-forcing-scientists-to-rethink-herd-immunity)

If you take away nothing else from this post, it should be this: Do Not listen to ignorant, fear-mongering simpletons. Lives are literally at stake.

Every time we get a couple of day drop in deaths some people want to suggest everything is under control. It is NOT. Every weekend lower deaths are recorded for whatever reason. But just in the last two days there have been 2500 deaths in America which suggests to me that things are not well at all. Two or three days in not a trend.
And because the Trump administration is further cutting back on containment methods it is likely to get worse not better.

Sigh. Clearly you either didn’t read or didn’t understand the material above.

When I mentioned ignorant fear-mongers who need to be put on ignore, that means people like you. You have absolutely no understanding of what is going on, how our understanding of COVID has evolved, and why – as it turns out – lockdowns and shutdowns moving forward would be the height of insanity.

Take some time. Do some reading. Then maybe comment. Not before.

There is zero inaccurate information in what I said. The pandemic is not over and will not be for a long time. All the data, that is not (Trump skewed data), makes it quite clear that the USA has done just about everything wrong in handling the virus. And as a result the country will be a very long time getting back to normal and may go into a depression before it does.

Blare

The illness will remain, but the “pandemic” will be over. Cases are dropping precipitously in all “hot zones” because they have reached the herd immunity threshold. That’s what the data tell us – clear as day. It also tells us that “lockdowns” did NOTHING to slow the spread.

It’s not a matter of you saying things that are “inaccurate.” It’s that you take basic data that you don’t understand and draw facile, incorrect conclusions.

Put it this way. I think you were the one who predicted 300k deaths by Christmas, correct? I will bet you any amount of money you wish that that number will not exceed 250k. I’ll give you a 50k cushion. Have Dan contact me if you’re interested in making that bet happen.

I know about a dozen kids-of-friends who tested positive for COVID in preparation for returning to their college campuses. One young lady said she felt like she had a mild hangover for a day, the rest never had ANY symptoms. Know too many positive antibody tests to count (i.e. “recovered” patients who never knew they had it). Nationally, the number of ACTUAL infections is almost certainly 10-15x the reported number, which represent 20-25% of the country. Definitely a higher concentration in the NE, hence the earlier arrival of herd immunity here. The south is reaching that point now.

Watch the death numbers over the next few weeks. They will drop steeply, just like the new infection #’s.

The worst is over for most every part of the country now.

The continued fear-mongering is irrational. Here is why that matters:

Yes, which is why states like FL and TX have nearly 1.5x the number of COVID cases but 1/3 the deaths of NY. The NYC lockdown was also a disaster, which most people can’t seem to grasp. But the numbers don’t lie.

That probably has more to do with the fact that the average age of Covid positive people is much lower in Florida and Texas. I’ m guessing that after seeing what happened in New York, the older people in those states were smart enough to wear a mask and or stay home. Can’t say the same for the younger people.

Herschel Walker a good man, whom I’ve had the pleasure to meet. Claims he never lifted a weight–just 1,000 sit-ups a day, 100? 500? more? push-ups a day, and RUN.

Tucker the man to watch again. Nice footage of the BLM POS destroying things and mom&pop businesses, assaulting seasoned citizens, and accosting diners as they try to eat.

Oh, so this is why people have assault rifles . . . and lots of ammo.

Tucker also had a montage of 10+ lamestream media “journalists” stuck on the meme of RNC night #1: DARK, DARK, DARK . . . like the parrots they are.

Carville says to say what? Oh, OK.

Agree on Guilfoyle–why are you shouting, Kimberly?

More to Melania than most people realize. Nice interview with the author of a book on her on C-SPAN lately.

And those stuck on the lie that Trump praised the neo-Nazis obviously can’t think too well. Limbaugh, AGAIN, dispelled that myth the other day.

Trump said that there are good people on both sides of the Robert E. Lee statue issue–leave it up or take it down.

The Planet had a nice video a while ago of the reasonable Shelby Foote, who’s on the Lee side.

The initial media narrative was that Blake was a good samaritan who stopped to break up a fight between two women, and was then murdered by cops when he returned to his car to check on his kids. Which fueled the outrage of the mobs that have been assaulting, burning and looting their way through our cities while chanting “say his name, Ja-cob Blake” and “rest in pow-er, Ja-cob Blake.”

In reality, he had shown up uninvited at the home of the mother of three of his children, who had an active order of protection against him since a few months earlier he had raped her, stolen her car and debit card and withdrawn $1k from her bank. Blake took her car keys from her so she couldn’t leave. She called the cops. She told the cops Blake had a knife. Blake fought the cops then tried to get into his car. A knife was found on the floorboard after the incident.

Here’s the earlier criminal complaint.

Hello Dan Bosley,

I read your op-ed about your defense of PAC-Man Richie Neal’s killing of surprise medical billing after the corrupt Springfield Congressman received thousands of lobbyists’ special interest dollars. Shouldn’t you have disclosed that your are a Beacon Hill lobbyist? Do you have a conflict of interest here?

I know all about “Bureaucrat Bosley on the Public Record”! You, Dan Bosley, sponsored a secretive rider to State House legislation to give wealthy corporations in Massachusetts billions of dollars in tax breaks without any public hearings or input of any kind. The Boston Globe derided your secretive rider as “The Bosley Amendment”.

You were very close to two convicted Felons named former Speakers of the State House Tom Finneran and Sal DiMasi when you were a North Adams State Representative. They were both de facto dictators who mocked the very ideals of democracy. To this day, the State House operates behind closed doors with top-down leadership.

The Massachusetts State Legislature won’t pass a fiscal year 2021 state budget until after the November 3rd, 2020, election, when they will predictably raise state taxes, fees, and public debts, while cutting state services, local aid, and public education funds. It is the same old crap all of these years later since you stepped down from the State House in 2010. The politicians and lobbyists come first, while the people always get shafted by them.

You opposed casino gambling in Massachusetts because you did not want it to cut into the state lottery’s billions of dollars in revenue. You represented the poorest community in the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and you knew full well that the state lottery is a form of regressive taxation that hurt your unknowing constituents.

In closing, Dan Bosley, your economic policies always favored wealthy special interests over the people you supposedly represented on Beacon Hill. Now, you are a greedy State House lobbyist who represents the wealthy’s special interests over the good of the people in the corrupt State House in Boston.

In Truth!

Hello Dan Bosley, and Patrick Fennell, respectively,

Thank you for your respective responses to my letter today. Dan Bosley, the fact remains that after “PAC-Man” (or the corrupt Congressman from Springfield named) Richard Edmund Neal purposefully killed a negotiated bill to end surprise medical billing, while he received thousands of dollars from lobbyists connected to the financial and insurance industries, millions of Americans are still dealing with surprise medical billing.

Dan Bosley, when I go to the hospital, I receive statements from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that states to me: “Thank you for your service. We are a grateful country to be able to serve you.” You always pick on me for my character, but, in fact, I live in our great country that honors me.

Patrick Fennell, I know how Dan Bosley operates in corrupt Beacon Hill politics. My dad, Bob, was a Berkshire County Commissioner from 1997 – mid-2000. My dad told then North Adams State Representative (and now State House lobbyist) Dan Bosley that Boston’s “Big Dig” had many billions of dollar in cost overruns, and he asked “Bureaucrat” Bosley why he was abolishing Berkshire County government. Dan Bosley’s response to my dad was that “the sooner county government is abolished, the better”.

Dan Bosley’s legislation in the State House to abolish Berkshire County government left Pontoosuc Lake in an accounting agency for two whole years. Dan Bosley did nothing to address the single most expensive public works project in U.S. history (Boston’s “Big Dig”), while his legislation to abolish Berkshire County government was sloppy.

Dan Bosley makes his money off of Massachusetts’ taxpayers. He collects a state pension, and now works for special interests as a corrupt Beacon Hill lobbyist. His op-ed today in the “Dirty Bird” (Berkshire Eagle) omitted so many facts, such as his interests as a lobbyist and Neal’s millions of campaign dollars from lobbyists, that the people are once again mislead and misinformed by Dan Bosley.

Lastly, if Dan Bosley wants to talk about character, then let him explain his secretive rider to State House legislation years ago that would have given wealthy corporations billions of dollars in tax breaks without a public hearing or any input whatsoever.

In Truth!

LEO has to be responsible for their conduct. It’s not an easy job. There are bad apples , but the whole barrel isn’t rotten. I’ve had rights violated by bad LEO, but much more often they have been of service. And I can’t play the race card.

What D- Mayors and Governors has let happen is criminal. There is not “peaceful protests” going on in those cites, it’s riots and looting.

I’ll support those in Berkshire county for being civil and peaceful. Continue MLK’s legacy, don’t tarnish it.

That’s where the defending of police comes in. Trump can’t tell them what to do but can hold back funding iff the states don’t want to wake up on this.

Former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg goes on Fox News and says that President Trump is responsible for the violence in the cities across the country because the violence is happening on his watch. Doesn’t matter that the Democrats are encouraging the violence and doing nothing to stop it in their Democrat run cities because it is all the fault of President Trump. These liberals continue to believe that Americans are fools.

Pittsfield has cancelled fall sports. It was obvious to a blind man as early as May that this was the logical path. But Pittsfield had to dick around and prolong the anxiety for a lot of people as well as waste a bundle of money before doing it.
When you consistently hire from the nepotismal candidates while bypassing qualified people this is what you get. Most of the city departments are like this which explains the upside down effect you see every day.

And just who was it from DIG SAFE that marked out the water lines near Hubbard ave that got punctured TWICE within a week?

So yesterday was another enlightening day in Pittsfield. Another great decision made by one of this Administration’s department heads. Morales decides not to repair a broken water main last week and then decides to back fill with small rocks so the City “could organize a repair plan”. Wow, great idea and great plan they organized. This Administration should thank their lucky stars that no one was killed yesterday. Amazing stupidity again. Many, many vehicles damaged, one poor guy has damage in the amount of $6,000. The rock shower went on for over a half an hour. Not funny. Who was the rocket scientist that made this decision last week to back fill with rocks? Morales or Barbarotta? From what I have heard from many folks this was absolutely the worse thing that could have been done. Why did they not repair it last week properly? If Morales was not sure how to repair, then they should have used some of Kerwoods’s secret stash money to hire a contractor that knew what they were doing, At least this week the Administration woke up and used Code Red to notify taxpayers, much better than last week when taxpayers were not notified and proceeded to do laundry in dirty water. Feel bad for the car owners that have to now deal with the City’s red tape to get their cars repaired. Willing to bet they are in for a long haul.

You are right! What idiots at City Hall decided to wait and think about it first?

The taxpayers will now have to pay (and rightfully so) for all the auto damage. But if someone had been severely injured or killed by the rocks, the families would sue and end up owning the city.

Again, we really do have a bunch of idiots running this city. God help us all!.

Evidently City Hall has already pushed this major blooper under the rug, No updates today as far as I have seen as to whether the water main is fixed and an update on when our water is going to clear up. No need to communicate to taxpayers, just make sure you pay your sewer and water bill next week. Also, just saw that Price Rite is closing, another store closing in this vibrant and dynamic city. Get’s better every day:/

and that is true. It would be like debating an effing chimp. Trump does not know anything and he does not care about anything. So he just blithers and blathers and substitutes pathological lying for debating. Look up the long list of childish names he has called his opponents or detractors. I was going to say he has the intellect of a fourth grader but that would be insulting fourth graders.
Biden is going to try anyway I guess, perhaps out of pure pity for the man. But let’s just hope Trump does not start throwing his own feces around.

We should have debates. It’s ridiculous that Joe doesn’t want to discuss the particulars of what he wants to do. That should be a red flag for voters. They are hiding so much in the Biden campaign including Joe’s inability to think clearly unless he is reading from a script.

Turns out Trumps religious right leader is a kinky little bugger. Jerry Falwell Jr. likes to watch his pool boy bang his wife and in fact it was HIS idea. 7 years this went on and he has admitted it Pat so don’t give me the Hannity dodge. All the while this assclown is preaching to his cult followers to only screw your own legal husband or wife while his own deviant deeds go unchecked. A lot of religious organizations are nothing more than money laundering cults and credit Trump for recognizing their ignorance and tapping into that voting block.

p.s. If he looks like a giraffe, what do you look like?
