KENNEDY, POLS ‘HOMELESS PHOTO-OP’ @ SPRINGSIDE PARK HEAPS MORE INSULT ON THE HOMELESS

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY AUG. 5, 2020) — There they were, the Photo-Op Phonies, rushing in Monday to “help” the homeless at Springside Park. The Profiles-in-Courage included

  • state sen. Adam Hinds, carrying a quart of spoiled milk;
  • congressman Joe Kennedy III with two quarts of motor oil;
  • city councilor Yuki Cohen, lipstick;
  • and district attorney Andrea Harrington, eye liner.

Five’ll get you ten’ll get you 25 that they wined and dined in lavish style later at Methuselah’s. Wonder how many of the Springside “residents” they invited?

Just coincidentally, news cameras were present.

Do you think these bums would undertake such a mission of mercy if the cameras weren’t there and a Kennedy wasn’t running for national office?

Not a chance.

Oh, and did we say the cameras were there recording the ministers of mercy?

I never thought THE PLANET would be endorsing Sen. Ed Markey, but after seeing Kennedy’s schtick, we’re doing that now in the Democratic primary. Same, by the way, with congressman Richie Neal v. Alex Morse, who’s only claim to fame getting elected mayor of Holyoke at 22 by being “openly gay” (quote from Morse campaign flier) and having a brother die of a drug overdose.

———- ooo ———-

KENNEDY v. MARKEY

Sorry Joe. Markey is dean of the Massachusetts congressional delegation, serving on four Senate committees, including Foreign Relations, and 12 subcommittees, including three as ranking member. But you’re a Kennedy. You flash the name and expect Red Sea to miraculously part.

MORSE v. NEAL

Here’s the only line you need to know (from Neal’s home page):

Since January 2019, he serves as Chairman of the powerful Committee on Ways and Means.

Chairman.

Of.

The.

House.

Ways.

And.

Means.

Committee.

’nuff ced.

———- ooo ———-

Morse promises to do wonders and spit cucumbers. A recent mailing features the snappy-looking millennial on the cover with this legend: “Richie Neal says he knows how Washington works. / Alex Morse is going to change how Washington works.”

Right. A back-bencher from the backwater, given mop-up duty, is “going to change how Washington works.” Hey, he’s gay, though.

THE PLANET counts Neal’s power and rank for something, assuring the Commonwealth doesn’t become more of an asterisk on Capitol Hill than it already is.

Same with Kennedy III v. Markey. Kennedy would come to the senate with The Pedigree (no jokes, please). However, as U.S. rep from the 4th District, “Fighting’ Joe” has given no indication that a swap with Markey would be anything but a net loss.

Here is the telling photo taken by THE PLANET‘s good friend, the ever-present Ben Garver of the Berkshire Eagle:

PHOTO & CAPTION: BEN GARVER — THE BERKSHIRE EAGLE
State Senator Adam Hinds and U.S. Representative Joe Kennedy III walk toward the Pavilion at Springside Park in Pittsfield to visit with homeless people camped there. Kennedy is challenging Senator Ed Markey for a seat in the Senate. Monday August 3, 2020

It’s enough to put you off your toast, we realize, but it underscores that the homeless in Springside Park, who have endured CODE RED days of heat and the remnants of a hurricane, serve merely as props for the re-election of politicians pretending to be leaders.

We close with this apt comment on Garver’s picture, from MERRY & BRIGHT:

Just wanted to puke up my dinner. Saw another great photo op of Andrea Harrington, Puki Yuki, Adam Hinds and Joe Kennedy at Springside Park visiting the homeless. Andrea thanked the “residents” of Springfield Park for welcoming them. Really “residents!!!” Just another pathetic photo op, surprised the Mayor wasn’t there for another shot at a picture of her. What is wrong with these people! Sad thing is we are paying their salaries. I would rather have my tax money go to help the homeless than these high on their horse politicians that only care about getting elected. They do not care about struggling human beings and hardworking taxpayers. I am sure they are all home in their air conditioned homes tonight drinking and eating. What is going to happen to these homeless folks for the next two days when the hurricane rain arrives.

Merry’s rhetorical question at the end doesn’t need an answer.

This is Pittsfield.

So somebody’s campaign manager thought it would be a good idea to show his candidate carrying in one quart of an off brand milk to be divided up amongst 60 people? Is the point that he is going to be a budget conscience representative of the people?

Everybody that can is either packing their bags or already gone. There are only about 75 people left in Pittsfield that were here 15 years ago. Pittsfield has basically become a transient station. Once people are here long enough to see the error of their ways they are back out the door and following the moving van.

If those “camera posers” wanted to express they cared about the plight of Pittsfield’s homeless, they should have brought sleeping bags and a tarp to comfort them, IN PERSON, ALL last night.

These are all allegations but directly heard from people working in the office

A section of Harrington’s office is dedicated to her re-election campaign and promoting her name, and finding photo ops. She uses a few of her staff like her personal PR team.

The main dust up between squeaky and moonbeam was that squeaky supports Kennedy and Moon doesn’t. Squeaky has be desperately trying to act as a power broker of the Berkshires and started using her office to support Kennedy and find opportunities to put squeaky and Kennedy together.
Harrington is pushing for the Berkshire County Women’s Political Caucus and the MA women’s political caucus to endorse Kennedy.
Andy McKeever is now in charge of Squeaky’s campaign. This will probably change as this gets out but he and a consultant from Boston have been directing campaign moves from North street. Another behind the scenes player is a former law school colleague of Squeaky. She has a real soft spot for him and they’ve done a lot of one on one campaign strategizing.

Moon isn’t going to say a word because to do so would admit any number of ethics violations.

This is a terrific piece by Dan Valenti. Our city and state officials making between $10,000 and $100,000.00 annually have expressed their tear jerked performance
of concern for Springfield Park homeless who sleep in tents and use portable potties for you know what. Understand this is for both sexes. Our leaders (?) walked through the homeless park, their pictures are in today’s paper, and not a one suggested a solution or better place for them to sleep in a safe place or to toilet in a private place. Nothing but a photo op. Such a disappointment. At least one or two elected officials know better.

There is no real difference between the 2 Capitol Hill races. Richard Neal and Alex Morse will vote for the same Democratic Party leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives. Ed Markey and Joe Kennedy III will do the same in the U.S. Senate. Nothing will change on Capitol Hill. In the end, Pittsfield always gets the proverbial shaft.

Less shafted if both Markey and Neal are returned to office. Seniority does matter. Morse has done nada for Holyoke. That photo op is a complete disgrace. Particularly for the DA who really has no business playing Mother Teresa. Gone are the days when the good elected officials quietly went about doing their jobs. Harrington’s politicisation of that office spells ruination for justice in Berkshire County.

I think that the DA plays a hugely significant role in the welfare of the homeless who are “in the system.” I don’t know how the drug court system works in Massachusetts but, at least in New Jersey, probation officers have tremendous influence on the homeless probationers, e.g. resources that they are connected to, the level of restrictions placed on them, determinations whether “step down” or “step up” is needed, and directing placements to either keep or discharge in cases of civil commitment. I think DA Harrington’s visits to the encampments are definitely valuable.

Harrington is not a probation officer. She is supposed to be the chief law enforcement officer of the county. Her traipsing behind the lead dogs Hinds and Kennedy is a complete waste of time and tax payer moola. It is what it looks like – nothing more than a political hack creating a photo-op. Maybe you should know that progressive AH fired a young nonwhite man from her office once he passed the Mass Bar. This, after promising him a position as a prosecutor upon passing the bar. AH’s only concern is her advancement in politics. She is trying to ride the coattails of Kennedy.

Of course the DA is not a probation officer. However, (again at least this is how it works in the NJ drug court system), they sign off on the decisions probation officers make in terms of the probationers. I have absolutely no idea how the drug courts in MA work, but I do know the NJ system fairly well.

That really bothers me. Politicians only take care of themselves at the expense of the people the supposedly serve. Markey, Kennedy III, Neal, and Morse say lofty things right now, but when two out of four of them are elected or re-elected, they will enrich themselves while the people will once again the proverbial shaft. Look at Pittsfield! For decades, Pittsfield has gone down the tubes. Pittsfield politics is nothing more than an insider’s group political hacks who raise taxes and fees, and public debts, while the city’s tax base shrinks with population and job loss. Pittsfield City Hall is totally disconnected from the proverbial Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski family!

Let’s see where that big marijuana growing bust I. savoy goes. Why would they have thirty hundred plants? Where were they selling the product? Should be interesting answers by the growers that were collared by State Police. Who monitors how much weed is grown here legally? If at all? And how do they keep track of it?

Helen Moon is the antithesis of Pioneer Valley values seeping into the Berkshires. Her progressive nonsense belongs in Northampton with the other snowflakes who can’t handle real life. We don’t need Alexandria Occasional Cortex and Pittsfield certainly doesn’t need a low rent version either.

Are you sure that you mean to use the word “antithesis”? Sounds to me like you meant to use “epitomy” or another term that denotes similarity rather than unsimilarity as you have with “antithesis.”

You mean “epitome”, no y at the end, Stacey.

About District Attorneys excerpt from — An Address by ROBERT H. JACKSON, Attorney General of the’ United states Delivered at The Second Annual Conference of United States Attorneys at the Great Hall Department of Justice Building Washington, D. C. on April 1, 1940 (note the date) —

The prosecutor has more control over life, liberty, and reputation than any other person in America. His discretion is tremendous. He can have citizens investigated and, if he is that kind of person, he can have this done to the tune of public statements and veiled or unveiled intimations. Or the prosecutor may choose a more subtle course and simply have a citizen’s friends interviewed. The prosecutor can order arrests, present cases to the grand jury in secret session, and on the basis of his one-sided presentation of the facts, can cause the citizen to be indicted and held for trial. He may dismiss the case before trial, in which case the defense never has a chance to be heard. Or he may go on with a public trial. If he obtains a conviction, the prosecutor can still make recommendations as to sentence, as to whether the prisoner should get probation or a suspended sentence, and after he is put away, as to whether he is a fit subject for parole. While the prosecutor at his best is one of the most beneficent forces in our society, when he acts from malice or other base motives, he is one of the worst.

These powers have been granted to our law-enforcement agencies because it seems necessary that such a power to prosecute be lodged somewhere. This authority has been granted by people who really wanted the right thing done – wanted crime eliminated – but also wanted the best in our American traditions preserved.

Because of this immense power to strike at citizens, not with mere individual strength, but with all the force of government itself, the post of Federal District Attorney from the very beginning has been safeguarded by presidential appointment, requiring confirmation of the Senate of the United States. You are thus required to win an expression of confidence in your character by both the legislative and the executive branches of the government before assuming the responsibilities of a federal prosecutor.

(I was introduced to the above in the Preface to https://www.amazon.com/Conviction-Machine-Standing-Federal-Prosecutorial-ebook/dp/B07PB4FBYR which I am currently reading. Phenomenal book that includes details of the FBI’s framing of Flynn and related railroading of Trump.)
