PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE LU, THE WEEKEND EDITION SEPT. 11-13, 202) — Who got the Kovid Kash? THE PLANET and others interested in honest government have been asking that question since Peter Arols was knee-high to Zeus. Mayor Linda Tyer, for reasons unknown, kept the list hidden as if Barry Clairmont’s business depended on it. Speaking of Our Right Honorable Good Friend, he sent THE PLANET this comment yesterday:

CLAIRMONT: “Come on Dan, the list is included on the city council agenda pages 15-18. Its on the city’s website. She can’t make the Eagle publish it.

The mayor’s husband, who does her talking for her on this site since, he claims, she doesn’t read THE PLANET, tried to throw a spitball past us. We were standing deep in the box, however, and ready for it. So were our readers, some of whom pointed out the ridiculousness of Barry’s pretense, the attitude of “Come on Dan, the list” and so on, as if it’s been drying in public since Day 1 of COVID. In fact, the only reason why Tyer decided to publish is that THE PLANET and the Secret Squadron forced her hand. Once more, we made a difference for Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski. The triumph won’t square the circle or change the corrupt nature of local government, but it will add to a growing discontent that is coalescing into the movement. That, too, may fade away, or … or it might be a landmine that the mayor and company have just stepped on. We hear the mechanism has a delayed-action fuse, and if it goes off, it won’t be until October.

That’s next month, by the way. We don’t know a whole lot more than that, but … we hear stuff.

On Aug. 14, a citizen made a request for the list of Kovid Kash receivers. City Clerk Michelle Benjamin ignored the request. That’s what happens when a citizen makes a request the Administration deems uncomfortable. Our intrepid and determined citizen then notified the state of the stonewalling, and the state let the Administration and Benjamin know that the state would be essentially umpiring, making the call at the plate. Since Tyer & Co. knew they would get thrown out and it wouldn’t be close, they came up with the brilliant plan to save face by burying the list in a nearly 500-page city council agenda, pretending, “See, we have nothing to hide. We published it.”

No one knew except the policy wonks who went through the monumental (and monumentally stultifying) council agenda.

As THE PLANET said, our readers, the ever-on-the-ball, called Barry out. Merry & Bright, for one, jumped all over Clairmont’s ploy. Here’s a sampling:

———- ooo ———-

MERRY & BRIGHT: Come on Barry, so the list is located in the City Council agenda. An agenda that consists of 427 pages. How is the average taxpayer to know this is in the agenda? You and the Mayor really do live in the Land of Make Believe. When many taxpayers are working two, three even four jobs to make ends meet, plus trying to home school their children do you really think they have time to wander through a 427 page document to find this information? Many taxpayers are just trying to pay for food and rent, many can’t afford to pay for WiFi. It is time that the Mayor realizes after 5 years in office that Pittsfield is NOT a wealthy community. Pittsfield taxpayers don’t live in a mansion in a gated community. I also find it hard to believe that the Berkshire Eagle would not publish this list, especially since they are hurting for funds. It would be a selling point. Did the Mayor even ask? Also, why did not one City Councilor share this information to the taxpayers that elected them? Were they advised not to?

Barry, not knowing when he’s in a lost position in the end game, continued his self-slaughter:

———- ooo ———-

CLAIRMONT: Above is the link for those of you who don’t know how to find it. Pages 15 through 18 list of the businesses. For my friend Mary and bright, I would think you would have the time to find this information since you spent an enormous amount of time bitching on this website. Maybe if you actually worked on things instead of bitching on things you might have more information. I don’t know why they would have to “Lander“ through the 427 pages since I specifically said it was pages 15 through 18, are you not able to comprehend what that means? None of the counselors were advised to either share or not share the information, as far as I am aware. It’s published it’s out there it’s easy to find.

Not to be topped, M&B delivered the punchline:

MARRY AND BRIGHT: In reply to B. clairmont.Such a gentleman. I apologize to you Barry because I like to keep track of local politics. Sorry to upset you. I am not “bitching” I am just wondering where my tax monies are going. Remember us taxpayers pay your wife’s salary. Need I remind you that I would not know this list was on the agenda if you had not told folks on this blog! Thank you for sharing. Not everyone in the City is on this blog and believe it or not (sorry Dan) there are other ways to communicate to the taxpayers!

———- ooo ———-

M&B, no appy-polly-loggies necessary. We know everyone in the city “is not in on this blog” — just a number well in excess of anything The Berkshire Eagle, aka The Boring Broadsheet, draws.

The irony is that for the most part, the list of Kovid Kash receptors seems not startling or, in itself, newsworthy. The news value here is the length to which Tyer went to keep the list out of the public view. THE PLANET‘s conclusion is that she kept the list in Al Gore’s lock box to protect The Fifth Dentist, tooth-driller Tom Shaukshag, he of the innermost circle’s innermost circle and Tyer’s campaign manager. Braintrust? We will not employ the word. Also, we do not know if he recommends sugared gum to his patients who chew gum.

Seems that I. Yankum Tom, painless dentist, received $6,000, or the cost of, what?, one cap. Question is “WHY?”

There are how many other dentists in town, who received squat?

Yet Sakshaug received Six Large. Not chump change, after all. Do you think the 33-year-old homeless man who killed himself in Springside Park a few days ago could have been helped by those Six Bills, Dr. Tom and Linda? And why was he homeless in the first place? Is it because the mayor and ServiceNet, for whatever reasons financial or otherwise, decided to suddenly shut down the SJHS facility and throw these human beings into the damp and dark without giving the proverbial rat’s ass?

Dr. Tom, why did you need Six Grand? THE PLANET would be glad to make this space available to you for your explanation. When the phone doesn’t ring, we’ll know it’s you not getting back to us.

For those keeping score at home, here’s the list. And yes, Dotties received $10,000. Was Tyer trying to keep the lid on that one, too?

COVID-19 Recovery Program Small Business Awards 8-5-10

In any case, THE PLANET has seen lots of lists in our time, and we have to admit, this one is vibrant and dynamic, to say nothing of inclusive and diverse.

Bring out the dancing girls!! Happy days are here again!! And John Kiley, start with a few bars of “The Night They Invented Champagne.”

Have a great weekend, everybody.

I only want 1% of Matt Kerwood’s +$10 million slush fund. Please let Barry Clairmont and the lovely Linda Tyer that I would be happy if they cut me a check for +$100,000.00. I could be listed as a consultant on how to profit off of Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski.

Your not. They provide thousands of decent paying jobs and contribute millions into the economy. I disagree with bailout money being used for huge CEO salaries and bonus’s . Most of all using the money on the golden parachutes. I’m not a bailout fan , but I am for thousands of people not having to collect off the government if we do nothing.

So us Kapanskis gave all these business thousands of dollars, as part of The Great COVID Scam? At least they are local businesses versus airlines, etc. The questions I want answers to are where’s the rest of the money? Who decided who got what? What was the criteria? Who was rejected? Why did some get 10k and some only 6? If the city gives you 10,000 and you give the mayor a 500 campaign donation, you just made 9,500. Bingo!

How many are in Tyers personal rolodex as business she frequents? Like hair and nail spas?

And by what legal authorization could she have done this in the first place? If she can just declare that she wants to give taxpayer money out to organizations for every perceived calamity where are the boundaries?

Well we know Dottie’s was an active campaigner for her with signs all over the business and through food contributions. Funny when you read through that list and see many of the businesses, they have already received so much taxpayer funding already. I would recommend everyone support the businesses not on this list, they gutted it through a really hard time with perseverance and hard work, not sitting at home with their hand out looking for taxpayer funding.

So this is how it’s going to be??? NFl opening day – NFL = BLM. A bunch of over overpaid pussies get their panties in a bunch over a another black and armed felon fleeing the police, who justifiably got shot, and so they won’t stand for the flag of this nation, that their very own forefathers fought, bled, and died for. A black national anthemn? Gee, how about a white national anthem? We are one country you stupid overpaid babies. If you really care about justice, and equality, you should be paid a low salary like police officers, and since blacks are way overrepresented in football and basketball as a percentage of the population, we should have way less black players, and way more white players, using your stupid logic. Any what about justice for all the victims of all the black on black crime? Where is the outrage? Oh, I fogot, you don’t care about black lives taken by other blacks. The NFL can kiss my ass. I’ll never watch another game.

Since local politicians and even our local district attorney are telling us that the increase in homeless is due to the virus, shouldn’t some of the COVID cash have gone toward housing for the homeless? $50,000 would have been a great start towards a homeless shelter. Now that there has been a suicide of one of the homeless in Springside Park, this is even more urgency to help these people who are facing even worse conditions in the park once the weather turns colder.

I agree Pat, and for the people who are at risk of becoming homeless. I would love to see the Mayor and the banks make a public statement about forbearance for residential rent/mortgage arrears. When I look at these grants it looks essentially like payday to the landlords on North St, which I am sure is essentially what it was. I doubt the acupuncturist makes 10k in 6 months on a good year.
The real estate market is booming – try and look out for the lawn guys and the unaffiliated maintenance guys who may be dropped in owner transitions. Winter is expensive in the Berkshires.

Can anyone add to the discussion with answers to the following questions:

Where did this money come from? Was it part of a federal relief grant?

What are the two different awards? CDBG and SBF?

Was any local taxpayer money distributed as part of the awards?

What was the criteria or requirements for receiving a grant?

———————————

It looks like the maximum grant was $10,000. Was it merely a case of free federal money to distribute (and had to be spent?), requiring just an application and no need to demonstrate need?

It would appear so, looking at this list.

You have the likes of Ben and Jerry’s (locally owned?) receiving $10,000. They provide ice cream delight year round to locals and tourists alike. You can imagine the pandemic being quite troubling financially for their business.

And then you have DJ BFG, a local DJ who averages one party a month (often attended by Pittsfield’s “in-crowd”) who also received $10,000. That’s probably more revenue than the guy/business takes in all year.

So I have this dentist where now they make you pay all up front and then submit the claim to the insurer. When there is a coverage-credit you only get the money that was credited by filing a form at the dentist office. Turns out my bill would have been cheaper to begin with Without’ the insurance.

If it was based on economic impact, DJ BFG would have received $50.
It’s solely based on who you know. I know of businesses that were told by the mayors office the application process had not started. Then a week later were told it was “too late”.
One would have hoped the criteria would have included a requirement to help the most people possible.

As a senior citizen on a fixed income I resent having my money being used to subsidize a nail salon. (to name one) When, as a citizen and long long time taxpayer in Pittsfield, did I sign up for this? Is this in the charter? Where can I go to find out what other giveaways I am obligated to fund for this mayor and her cronies?
There has always been grabby hands grasping greedily for taxpayer dollars and a certain amount people probably accept. But city officials and their shadow handlers have gone way overboard and this needs to stop NOW. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg and only got exposed because of the sheer brazeness of it.

Good question TM. I’m not sure if the monies are to be paid back, but in the end, I feel taxpayers might be on the hook for that also. Bailout at taxpayers expense and reimbursement at the taxpayers expense? Double taxation? Taxpayers always get the short end of the stick one way or another.

Agree with above comments, this list is very strange indeed. First, I have to say, if I presented a spreadsheet like this to my employer I would not be in my job long especially if it was to be presented to the public. Looks like it was created in about 10 minutes. Does anyone know what “CDBG” and “SBF” means and what is the difference in the funding? Between the typo error on Dina’s waiver letter and now this spreadsheet I suggest there be some administrative/clerical training for workers in City Hall. I can guess what it means but not sure where the money is coming from. Many of the businesses that were given monies had no reason to not still be in operating during the pandemic. Builders, Consulting Firms, Muffler and Car Service, Radio Stations, cleaning service and motels were all still operating. Yet you hear of very reputable businesses closing in Pittsfield such as Over the Rainbow, Friends,Hot Tomatoes, just to list a few. Did the City ever reach out to these businesses? Communication has never been a high point of this Administration. Since they gave WBRK monies (why we will never know) how about putting a small informational piece on the radio or in the Berkshire Eagle offering this assistance to local business. Just another eye opening strange day in Pittsfield, what will tomorrow bring?

I put in the requests and there is another appeal.

A couple reasons for all this

I have two friends, one who asked about the grants and was told it was too early to apply, then about a week later was told it was too late.

I have another friend who applied much later than my first friend and she received money. More than what she thought she would get.

Also this is an “integrity check”. Having a number of emails that were sent to the mayor’s office, I will be able to check if they’ve included them in dump.
If they are not and since this is an appeal of an appeal due to inaction, I will request that the city, clerk, and mayor’s office be sanctioned for their deception.

As it stands now I know they’ve applied to very different standards to like businesses on the application side.

There is another list that the Eagle WAS OK with printing. It involved the PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM, a federally funded payout. It was printed on page A3 of the Sunday July 12 issue. Probably too big to ever print out here but involves monies from hundreds of thousands of dollars up to millions.
For instance Guidos got between 1-2 million dollars. Carr Hardware got 350,000-1 million dollars. Petricca got 2-5 million. There are literally hundreds of these including some that seem to be Pittsfield govt. agencies or tools. i.e. Downtown North Inc. $150,000-350,000. Pittsfield, Inc. $150,000-350,000.
All perfectly legal but still eye popping to reade over. Not sure why The Eagle chose to print the federal one but NOT the local one involving our mayors handouts of our own tax money.

Audit would sure help to expose what has been going on for sometime and should be done. Those who don’t want it done are just fine with taxpayers dollars being used and abused.

Maybe, just maybe, the Feds need to step in. She won all 7 Wards and all 14 precincts when elected as mayor. At the time she was City Clerk, not elected the first time she held the position, but appointed by Ruberto. She needed to step down as the city clerk WHEN running for mayor so that the integrity of her position in one of the city’s most significant offices held could not be questioned.

Defamation claims are extremely difficult to prove as financial damages need to be supported by substantial evidence. Plaintiffs usually need to hire expert witnesses to calculate damages and defendants may have to hire experts themselves in defense. Thus, the litigation costs can be exorbitant. Clairmont inserted himself into the election and public eye during the campaign such that a possible defense could include his status as a quasi public figure. He has hired David Rich of Todd & Weld to represent him. The case was filed on Sept 8th and the most recent item on the docket sheet is a Sept 10th allowance of a motion by Clairmont to appoint a special process server.

Definitely agree. He has attacked many posters on this site. Also, if he is so concerned about his professional ethics, why did he decide to hang out at Cumby’s at three o’clock in the morning and feed it to to the press? I don’t believe Melissa made him do it. Most folks seeking out an accountant, would most certainly look beyond him after reading about his stunt. He is the only one at fault for that one.

Regarding mayor’s husband suing Mazzeo. Rumors abound that the mayor need not complete this term in office to be eligible for her pension. And when this occurs, she and hubby will move to their other home in Denver along, of course, with any compensation he may collect from his case.

What a legacy they will both leave behind.

Her pension is based on age and years of service. Then she will collect a percentage of her three highest paid years. Her time as mayor, city council and all the years as a school clerk in Lenox will add up to a large number. Pension dollars will probably be around 100 K.

I do not make nearly as much as the lovely Linda Tyer, as I am a disabled Veteran. I am single, while the lovely Linda is married to a millionaire named Barry Clairmont. If the lovely Linda and Barry retire wealthy, I wish them both well. I long supported the lovely Linda Tyer in Pittsfield politics, including when I lived in Pittsfield (Mass.) when she first ran for Ward 3 City Council. Mayor Linda Tyer is a good person who cares about people like me. I always thought she was cool. Also, it wasn’t because I liked her romantically. I am happy for Linda and Barry, and I wish them both well.

Kamala Harris is trying to scare everybody about taking any COVID-19 vaccine because she hates President Trump. “I wouldn’t trust any vaccine from President Trump”, she says in a nasty manner. Yeah, these people are really concerned about the health of Americans. She knows, or she should know, that many Americans are afraid of taking vaccines as it is and then she says something stupid like this. Sounds like the Democrats need this virus to keep scaring Americans for a long time so they can completely tank the economy and they can establish total government control over us.

Does Kamala really think that President Trump is in the medical labs creating the vaccine? The same vaccine will be given to all Americans no matter who is elected in November so Kamala is deviously spreading more fear.

No way in hell I would take, or let anyone I cared about take, any medication or medical advice from Trump, his family or anyone associated with him. Instead of letting the medical professionals handle this thing he has interfered and tampered with professional information to protect his special interests.
He and his family have finanacial investments in everything he is promoting and he could care less what happens to you if you take it as long as the money gets into his pockets.
In fact there will so few people risking his vaccine, including many of his base, that it will not help with the pandemic at all. I am personally going to fly to Austraila where the governement allows the medical people to handle medical issues and actually give a shit about their people.

Pat

That is ridiculous. President Trump doesn’t need money. If he did, he would be taking a presidential salary every year. The medical groups will decide when the vaccine is safe, NOT President Trump. This so-called Trump vaccine is the same one that would be given during a Joe Biden presidency and you know it. Flying to Australia because you don’t trust this country? That’s just more of America is evil as being promoted by the far left.

Your buddy is planning to rush a vaccine out before the election. A vaccine that will not have gone through the normal testing protocols. A vaccine that may have hidden dangers lurking within it. Why do you believe that Trump knows more about medicine than people who have studied it for years and years?
I will tell you why you believe it. Because in a cult like manner he has taken over your ability to rationalize and think independantly. He has convinced you he has super powers and knows more than anyone else in the world about everything in the world.
You take his vaccine. And if you still have not developed tumors or grown another head after two years then I will accept it as possibly safe.

Mark was the greatest. The Omaha team was one one the best – ever. There was Joey Costanzo, Tommy McCartney, Ray Woitkowski, and the rest of the guys I forgot their names. To be Pittsfield’s best ever is extraordinary because Pittsfield has had many great teams and great ball players. There was Larry Bossidy, Tony Ferdyn, Itch McMahon, Billy McMahon, Chad Shade, Tony Gibson, Ray Woitkowski,of course, Fred Broderick, Donnie Anderson, Pat Grady, Bobo Denno, Where do I stop? There was no end to Pittsfield great athletes. How about my friend, Frank Reid? Yes, Mark was outstanding. We know that. Other players were great, too.

Lots of arsonists being arrested for setting fires in California and Oregon. One woman intentionally setting the California fires has ties to Antifa, but the far left District Attorney in that state is hiding that information. Nancy Pelosi has been trying to blame the fires on Mother Nature being really ticked off due to climate change. No, Nancy, there seems to be human involvement in some of these fires.

One of the major wildfires in California was started from fireworks set off during a gender reveal party. Not intentional, but setting of fireworks with very dry conditions is very stupid. Fireworks are being used as weapons by groups like Antifa. Doing too much of that in California would have the whole state on fire.
