PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY NOV. 11, 2020) — On Nov. 6, the City of Pittsfield, mayor’s office, sent out the following press release. We present it in full. Then we present the actual story. The press release only tells a part of what happened. Conspicuously missing was the name of the tavern that seems to be at the heart of a super spreader event, one that has essentially thrown the city back to square one in the battle against COVID-19.

Large, private gatherings fuel major spike in new COVID-19 cases in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (Nov. 6, 2020) – Over the last 14 days, City of Pittsfield health officials report 46 new positive COVID-19 cases in the city, a concerning rise mainly attributed to large private gatherings, including house parties and group dining at restaurants. The updated public health data was shared during the city’s COVID-19 Task Force meeting on Friday.

“The cases are exploding and they are related to a couple of specific gatherings,” said Health Director Gina Armstrong. “The ripple effect is significant. That’s why we are urging residents to follow the safety guidelines. Avoid indoor and close quarter gatherings as these spaces are prime environments for spreading COVID.”

Mayor Linda Tyer said the city is strengthening all of the protocols established in the winter and spring that helped the community navigate the initial surge of the pandemic. This will include increasing the number of public health nurses to support contact tracing efforts for new cases.

“The alarming rise in new cases ought to grab everyone’s attention. We must all double down on the COVID-19 safety practices that got us through the surge,” Tyer said. “When we adhere to these safety protocols, we’re protecting ourselves, our family, friends, and our colleagues.”

While these gatherings have resulted in additional cases, they have also sparked tremendous concern among those who believe they may been exposed to COVID-19, prompting a desire to be tested immediately, said Public Health Nurse Kayla Donnelly-Winters. This is understandable, but there’s a very specific set of actions that need to be followed to ensure the most accurate test results, she said.

“First, self-quarantine as soon as you know you’ve been around someone with COVID-19. Second, individuals who are experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms should promptly seek testing through the Berkshire Medical Center testing site,” said Donnelly-Winters. Throughout the pandemic, the BMC testing site has served as the city’s trusted health care partner. To arrange a test, please call the BMC Link Line is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. seven days a week.

page1image12051648

However, for those who are not symptomatic, but believe they may have had exposure to COVID-19, it’s extremely important that they are not tested prematurely, she said.

“I understand why people would want to be tested immediately, but there really needs to be a four-day incubation period after first learning of exposure to prevent a false negative,” said Donnelly-Winters.

Individuals who are identified as close contacts will also receive a call from a Public Health Nurse to provide further guidance on testing.

For more information, please visit the COVID-19 page on the city’s website at cityofpittsfield.org.

Before we get into details, let’s try to simplify what we know, what we think we know, and what seems to be most likely. These three areas of inquiry’s results do not occupy watertight compartments but each spill into one another.

  • Events began to unfold on Oct. 24 with a birthday party of 10 people at Mazzeo’s Restaurant.
  • There were people with the virus at that celebration.
  • The party then moved to Methuselah’s for after-dinner revelry.
  • There, the party infected staff and patrons who were already there.
  • From Methuselah’s, the infected went about like Johnny Appleseed throughout the city, sowing their seeds.
  • Another “super-spreader” event came after a Halloween party at PortSmitt’s at Pecks Road and Highland Avenue. That restaurant is now shut down.
  • Subsequently, Roasted Garlic and Zucchini’s restaurants closed for business.
  • City health officials also tracked down outbreaks at Appleby’s at Berkshire Crossing. That restaurant remains open, as does Methuselah and Mazzeo’s.
  • A Lenox establishment, the Old Heritage Tavern, also served as a super-spreader.
  • An elementary school teacher with the virus exposed her students and their families to COVID. That classroom has been shut down for at least two weeks.
  • There are confirmed cases at Pittsfield High School and Reid Middle School.
———- ooo ———-
THE PLANET  heard from reliable City Hall sources that “the mayor is infuriated because most of these cases were completely avoidable.” Sources said, “Adults acting irresponsibly and completely ignoring all the advice of public health, medical, and scientific professionals have resulted in positive cases in the police department, one of our elementary schools, and throughout the community.  Two clusters are associated with a large indoor private house party held over Halloween weekend, an indoor birthday party that started at Mazzeo’s and then moved to Methusulah on Oct. 24.  The third cluster is linked to a large indoor group gathering at PortSmitt’s.  As part contact tracing, Pittsfield public health nurses have connected with hundreds of people.”
A source from the city Health Department tells THE PLANET, “Everything that we have worked so hard to do slow the spread of the virus has been undone in 14 days.  And I’m sure we’re going to see more cases because of this careless behavior.  If we’re serious about keeping schools open and workplaces in business then these large indoor gatherings have got to stop.  It is totally disrespectful to first responders, doctors, nurses, grocery store workers, and everyone else who held the line during the first surge.” We are in entire agreement.
A school committee member told THE PLANET, “I think we should ask that elementary school teacher exposed her pupils and their families to COVID how it feels today.  As far as I’m concerned, this teacher has violated a public trust.”
THE PLANET urges the school committee to take severe disciplinary action against this teacher and to name her.
Trying to sort out the precise truth of what happened with Mazzeo’s and Methuselah’s has been like searching the Minotaur’s labyrinth for evidence of dandruff. Our investigation has spoken with staff at both places, several city sources, including Methuselah owner Yuki Cohen, and attendees.
Here is a digest of comments from Mazzeo’s staffers:”I know for a fact that 10  people tested positive for COVID from being at Methusalas. They ate at, left stuffed,  and went to Methuselahs obviously for drinks and not food, which is not allowed. Methuselah’s was packed. Patrons Included staff from Proprietors, Zucchini’s, and Roasted Garlic.” Another comment from a Mazzeo’s staffer: “We got a call from the Pittsfield Health Department  for a complaint that [Mazzeo’s] violated the regulations.” Our source said a city inspector told owner Tony Mazzeo that the restaurant had allowed 30 people to attend a private party in our conference room. This is the group that got sick at Methuselah.”

THE PLANET finds this interesting, since Mazzeo’s website says that conference room only holds 24 people, max. THE PLANET also learned that Mazzeo’s has footage from a security camera that shows the group coming in and leaving. A source who has seen the video says there were only 10 in the group. If that’s true, the Mazzeo’s was clearly within the legal limit.

Another city source said “the only reason they’re coming at Mazzeo’s is to deflect attention from Yuki and Methuselah, but Methuselah’s is clearly a bar and has been overcrowded nightly with staff from many local spots. The birthday party include people from Lenox, Pittsfield, Richmond, and Lee some who work in schools (a school nurse) and a number of people who work in retail.
So much for it being safer for people to spend time with Yuki. It was a party and an after-hours get together that exceeded the limits of people allowed in the establishment, and people were not wearing masks. You will soon see a lot of these places closing down for a bit. Yuki should be fined, but that won’t happen.”

Soon after the source told us this, sure enough, Roasted Garlic, Zucchini’s, and PortSmitt’s closed.

———- ooo ———-

THE PLANET also spoke with Methuselah’s owner (and at-large city councilor) Yuki Cohen. Here’s the exclusive:

People do love to exaggerate, and I understand there’s a heightened sense of fear related to Covid which makes everything worse,” Cohen told us.  “I hope we can all stay calm and be able listen to the facts before judgment and fear burns people at the stake.  Here’s what transpired.   A close friend’s daughter turned 21.   He informed me that following dinner, they were stopping by Methuselah for dessert and a drink as his daughter was finally legal to have a drink.   They arrived later in the evening, around 10 p.m.  It was a party of 10.   I sat them all in the back area, to keep the large party separate.  We sang happy birthday to the lassie.  We were not overcrowded. I ensured I had a doorman that evening to make sure we stayed within the safety guidelines.  I heard the same accusations of overcrowding from other people. I can see how from the outside a line out the door seems to indicate that, but we were actually keeping people out.
“The evening went well, and I don’t believe anyone outside of the birthday party who were at Methuselah that evening contracted COVID.  My exposure came after we closed the bar.  The person who led the party is a close personal friend and he stayed on to help us clean up and close, and we had a shift drink before we called it a night.  About a week later, when he received his test results, he called to inform me he tested positive for COVID.  I called the mayor and Gina [Armstrong] at the Health Department to alert them, and my exposed staff all went to get tested.
“When my last unexposed staff became exposed at a separate party (not at Methuselah), I decided to close the bar.
“My close friend could possibly have been a super spreader (as we all can, just myself, I have two daughters who go to school, they have riding lessons, and I live in a building with mostly elderly neighbors), but I believe his immediate actions of quarantining as soon as he heard that members of the party had symptoms, and contacting everyone as soon as he found out, curtailed that outbreak to mostly within his group.”
Cohen continued: “I can only imagine the amount of chatter as so many are concerned and worried about this novel virus and it’s vital that we keep ourselves safe/healthy/ contained so that others are too. From what I hear, it seems that the people affected from the birthday party were young, and luckily they have all recovered well. There was a worry of exposure to some who were immune compromised with elderly parents recovering from cancer, and it is a relief to hear that they weren’t affected.  There definitely was a whole lot of emotions involved with being exposed to the virus — anger, fear, blame, shame, you name it.  But it’s a virus, there’s a pandemic ,and the most important thing is doing everything we can in keeping ourselves and others safe.  Keeping fingers crossed this vaccine from Pfizer is as promising as it sounds.”
———- ooo ———-
That’s where the story stands. It’s a developing situation, and while the local mainstream media continues to print the press releases and puff pieces without question, THE PLANET will remain on the alert, like a hungry lion searching prowling for a meal. But nothing like the Dancing D.A. and the Dem Gals.  If that dance were a Jeopardy question, it would be “What is a Meeting of Anorexia and Overeater’s Anonymous? We shan’t try to dream up the category.
Lord help us all on this sacred Veteran’s Day.

“God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done”. (Romans 1:28) This man and this legislation is a stark reminder of the evil days in which we live. The more frightening concern is how we as a nation will be judged in the future for allowing this abortion abomination

God is all powerful. He could stop all abortions if he wanted to because he is all powerful. Am I right?
So why did he even allow man to figure out how to do abortions if he did not like the idea in the first place? Not sure why he designed such an incredibly complicated human body subject to an endless assortment of illnesses and debilitation in the first place but surely he could have designed it so that abortion was not possible. Or am I wrong?

Key words in my statement, “God gave them over” God is longsuffering, but there comes a time when God will no longer put up with man’s evil debauchery and judgement will follow. Also remember He is God and we are not

The problem of evil in the world has been around for a while. The best minds in history have addressed the question, from at least the first century AD, and even back to about the fifth century BC.

Perhaps catch up on that discussion.

Obviously some Americans like corrupt politicians like Joe Biden as long as they speak softly and act like they have a good personality. Career politicians like Joe Biden have fooled people for 47 years. The youth vote put Biden over the top because the youth indoctrination worked. Young people want government to tell them how to live their lives and big government is only too happy to do that.

There is an old saying. “Don’t shit in your own bed.” The paper very much appears to be in bed with the corner office and it certainly is not going to disparage an advertiser no matter what they might do.
So it seems that while they would like to be part of the real fourth estate they are handicapped because they have tied at least one of their own hands behind their back.

How do you know when Yuki is lying? She’s talking.
I know people that went to the party as well as people that were at methuselah for drinks that, and other nights. If there was a doorman, the most he was doing was maybe checking IDs or trying to get laid. One group of friends that went in said it was CLEAR the place was overcrowded, and nobody was ordering food. They left after 5 minutes because it seemed “dangerous”. People were elbow to elbow at the bar (not allowed) there was easily 60-70 people and even people drinking outside (not allowed).
If the board of health cared they could easily pull the meals tax receipts for that night and look at Yuki’s security cameras.
Mazzeo’s isn’t the problem, they run a pretty tight ship there. As we learned with the Heritage, nothing can stop an infected person from showing up at your restaurant but protocols are in place to try and limit the spread. Mazzeo’s held those in place, Yuki tossed those out in favor of making money. Something she is desperately in need of. So when the party moved over to her place and people added to the group instead of losing business, Yuki put everyone at risk adding more people to an already overcrowded bar, and nobody was there for the food.
The issues missed here, the party included a staff member from Canyon Ranch, a family member of the birthday girl. Canyon Ranch is now dealing with Covid. Another member of the party works in the Pittsfield school system, they are now having problems. Other party goers included a Richmond school staff member, nothing has been said in Richmond yet.
The other issue not discussed is the fact that Methuselah often does after hours parties. It’s the bar staff from other restaurants go to, it’s a well known “secret”. The go to place used to be zucchini’s but now it’s methuselah. They call it a “shift drink” which isn’t allowed and violates her liquor license but it’s way more than a shift drink. It’s other bartenders and service staff coming to the bar after their shift ends. They all kick in $20 per from the nights tips and drink. There are pictures all over Facebook and Instagram, many are being quickly deleted.
Yuki knows what she did, but they mayor won’t make a move, girl power and all. Plus how are you going to go after a bar when the DA is in there partying? It’s all politics.
But they will try and blame Mazzeo’s, because Mellisa is not part of the girl power team.
So how does Yuki know the exact minute she got Covid? She closed the bar and was exposed to Covid, I’m betting she was exposed to a lot more.

Yuki lies like a rug. She is stupid and condescending and I have trouble believing that she even wrote the answer Dan has. Did she speak or say those words? It sounds like the DA wrote it and dollars for donuts they are trying to deflect to Mazzeos. Thanks god he had the camera. Also, as far as I know no one has been been shot outside of Mazzeos. There are Richmond establishments running illegal bar activity too.

I’m not even sure where this man got his information, but I’m hoping he seeks help as he is a pathological liar. Focus on getting the town safe and making sure the people who have the virus are safe rather than focusing on pointing the blame. Someone you are bullying could be extremely ill from the virus for all this man knows, but then again he knows nothing. We are in the middle of a pandemic please focus on things that matter!

“My exposure came after we closed the bar. The person who led the party is a close personal friend and he stayed on to help us clean up and close, and we had a shift drink before we called it a night. About a week later, when he received his test results, he called to inform me he tested positive for COVID.”
So when they were getting busy in her bar after hours, who gave Covid to whom?

Stupid stupid stupid people.
Will you never learn?
Covid doesn’t care who you are, who you know, what you own.
People are getting reckless and it’s going to cost local companies lots of money and probably some lives in the the process.
Who’s to blame, the POS mayor. It begins and ends with her. She’s not using the board of health properly, she’s been EXTREMELY lax on any type of enforcement and she shows people the rules don’t matter. She’s out dancing for Biden with 75 of her dumbest friends.
BHS has been hiding the numbers for too long and it’s going to explode in our faces like Yuki’s close personal friend did on her face in the bathroom of her bar.

• Seven-day average of new confirmed cases: 1,407, up 796 percent;

• Seven-day weighted average of positive test rate: 2.6, up 240 percent;

• Seven-day average of number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals: 546, up 252 percent;

• Seven-day average of COVID-19 deaths: 18, up 70 percent.

Dan,
It’s been this way all along. The only difference is the people getting infected are now people who are working in the service industry and owners of places.
I’ve watched people knowingly miscode where people lived to lower numbers in Pittsfield.
A nurse who wanted her kids in school “at any cost”, coded people who live in the Berkshires to “address unknown”.
There was a group of postal employees that tested positive, not a word about it.
At least it’s getting out there now. I’d also say for every case you hear about, there’s three you don’t hear about.
Schools have done a great job hiding the numbers.
The local board of health is not doing contact tracing, it’s very lax. If someone goes in for a test because of suspected contact, they are supposed to get names and numbers. They don’t.

Go to VT, every restaurant or bar has you sign in and give your phone number. Why isn’t Pittsfield doing this?
They keep daily records of who visits and by the hour.
I’ve been warning people all along. The numbers are very very wrong.

Dan here is some info sourced from State of Vermont. It does seem Covid is hitting the fan again after a stable summer/early fall.

Sources: State of Vermont travel map(s), data source from Johns Hopkins University

“Johns Hopkins occasionally differs from individual county level data—this can happen for several reasons. Many municipal governments keep records that differ from official state totals, due either to a lack of communication or breakdown in data entry. In these cases, state totals are most often preferred. There have also been several instances of states recategorizing the location of a group of infections (e.g., when a group from one county tests positive in another county). These retroactive modifications to the data can cause county totals to rise or fall suddenly when compared to previous values. Such adjustments have been observed throughout the travel region for as long as the travel map has been operational and are considered an unavoidable source of error when attempting to create a real time reflection of the pandemic’s impact. In such instances when data reporting errors are detected, the modeling team will refresh the travel map as soon as possible to remedy the incongruity.”

I can’t believe I am doing this, but I actually agree with Yuki and commend her on responding to you. We need to be VERY careful to not vilify others because they contracted or unknowingly spread Covid. It could be your spouse, friend, family, or kids that contract it and unknowingly spread it to others, how are you going to feel when the witch hunt comes after your family? If she says it was in the allowed limit I will take her word for it until otherwise and if she was in violation then appropriate action should be taken.

A school committee member told THE PLANET, “I think we should ask that elementary school teacher exposed her pupils and their families to COVID how it feels today. As far as I’m concerned, this teacher has violated a public trust.”

That school committee member is an idiot. I am sure that committee member has NEVER exposed anyone to any type of illness before. Sure, lets burn this teacher at the stake and ask her how she feels while doing it.

I don’t want to hear anything out of the Mayors office. As far as I am concerned every communication coming out of that office or that is posted to local media should include pictures and the videos of them dancing in a public park with nearly 100 people in attendance. What would have happened if someone wanted to have a party to celebrate a Trump win in a public space?

The whole country is awash in the virus because those at the top of the Federal govt. basically ignored the problem. If Pittsfield becomes awash in the virus the mayor had better be able to prove she did her job. Elsewise she will be complicit in the spread and damage caused. She has been able to hide many things because of her position and with the help of others in high positions but she cannot hide from this virus. She needs to show up and stand up and take center stage. NOW, not later. There will be no acceptable excuses no matter how good the campaign manager can spin it.

Blaming President Trump for a second wave of the virus is so lame. Everybody know by know what works and what doesn’t. The Biden supporters gathering tightly this past weekend like they were at a rock concert will be the super spreaders. Is this part of the far left plan to spread it across the country? Everything else they have done has seemed to be coordinated. Biden supporters are supposed to be so knowledgeable about avoiding the virus. Not seeing it from the Biden youth.

Maybe you are just stupid.
There is a difference between getting Covid and knowingly violating health orders and DPH and governors mandates.
Yuki has continuously and notoriously flaunted capacity orders, she’s served minors, that minor got shot, she didn’t exactly help the investigation along.
Yuki only replied because there’s so much evidence of her having events and creating super spreader situations.
She replied only to deflect the blame to someone else. She even admits to after hour drinking with non/employees.
No Yuki is entirely at fault here.

As to the teacher, yeah they should find out who it was because that teacher was supposed to be UNDER QUARANTINE because she had a test pending. She got the test because she was at an event where over 10 people tested positive for Covid. You don’t go to work with a Covid test pending, especially one due to potential exposure you idiot.

RN,

Maybe you have more insight or information then what I am able to see from reading the blog, other outlets, and social media, or you could just be talking out of your ass. Every post you seem to make on this forum is about the sky falling over a virus that has a 99% recovery yet and has killed about 50 people under the age of 40 in the state with the overwhelming majority being in individuals 80+. Anybody who doesn’t think the world is ending of course is labeled an idiot.

If that teacher had a pending test and went to work then she should absolutely be reprimanded. Again, based on the information publicly available, I haven’t seen anything claiming that.

I am not going to sit here and defend Yuki because I don’t really know her, but if you think no one else in the county has ever served someone under 21 then I have a sandbox in Florida for you that you can actually use, because they let you actually leave your house there.

But go ahead advocate for the closure of Methuselah. Hell, close down every other bar, restaurant, hotel, and shop in the Berkshires.

I am curious if anyone knows how the hospitals financials are looking this year?

I’m saying, and always have, if there are health mandates, from the state, from the CDC, from a local mayor or board of health, from the Governor, everyone has to follow them. It’s not selective if you are a politician or one of the in crowd, because you’re friends with the mayor or DA or even if you are the mayor or DA.
Yuki has had a history of problems in the short time she’s owned that bar, from knowingly serving an underaged patron to many overcrowding issues and a lot of them went under the radar because she gets a pass constantly.
If we are worried about the numbers, then we put up the real numbers everyday, and we live by those numbers and the consequences.
It’s not hard to understand. There are health rules, we follow those health rules all of us.
At 1% lethality, Covid is 10 times more lethal than the flu at .1%.
Maybe if people followed the actual rules, we’d be much lower, but we won’t know because people like yourself, Yuki, and that mayor keep downplaying the rules and ignoring the significance of the pandemic.

Yuki should be shut down because she has zero care for the community, she only cares about herself.

“Ten times more lethal than the flu?”
Where is that data from?

RN
RN
Reply to  Mr. Fritz

The WHO.

The flu, on average is “responsible” as a factor in the death of those that get it at less than .1% as estimated by the WHO.

Covid, weighted, based on deaths/cases is 3-4%, but as it settles it’s estimated to be about 1%.

0.1 x 10 =1.0 so it’s 10times more lethal. Not hard to figure out. Dumb a$$

Now I can use the 3-4% and bump my numbers up to 30-40x more lethal but I’m a realist.

Mortality for COVID-19 appears higher than for influenza, especially seasonal influenza. While the true mortality of COVID-19 will take some time to fully understand, the data we have so far indicate that the crude mortality ratio (the number of reported deaths divided by the reported cases) is between 3-4%, the infection mortality rate (the number of reported deaths divided by the number of infections) will be lower. For seasonal influenza, mortality is usually well below 0.1%.

https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/question-and-answers-hub/q-a-detail/q-a-similarities-and-differences-covid-19-and-influenza#:~:text=Mortality%20for%20COVID%2D19,quality%20of%20health%20care.

Ah yes, our friends at the WHO! The same organization that deemed the risk assessment of COVID as moderate, claimed precautions were an overreaction and their was no evidence of transmission, blatantly suppressed information to governmental leaders to protect their friends in China, and botched both the Swine Flu and Ebola.

An organization and source I have full confidence in.

Thanks.

I disagree. If you are awaiting the results of the Covid test but you still go out in public and mingle with others, I call that negligent. How can you use the word “unknowingly”. The person would not have had the test unless he/she had a good reason to be concerned.

RN

The only way you get a test in the BHS system.
1. You are having a scheduled procedure (in or out patient) at the hospital.
2. If you come in for an emergency and have to stay or have surgery.
3. You have been exposed to Covid via current close contact rules, have waited at least four days in isolation, and are showing symptoms.
4. You are required by work or for travel and have a referral.
5. You work in the hospital and are in need of getting one due to potential exposure.

The teacher in question got tested because she had an exposure event.

Spider

That may be true, but that still doesn’t excuse people from deliberately exposing others (while awaiting a test result) by traveling about as if there wasn’t a pandemic. Shame on them!

RN
RN
Reply to  Spider

Did I say it excuses them? No in fact it means the people waiting on tests had to have been symptomatic. When you get the test because you are symptomatic they specifically tell you to isolate until you get the results.
The person in question thought they had Covid, got a test, was waiting for results, went out to dinner anyway.
It’s on them.
If Yuki was told by her “close personal friend” the love Dr. that he was getting a test because he thought he had Covid and they shared intimate contact, would responsible thing be to stay open for a week and wait until the test results came back or close immediately, isolate, and wait to get the test?
You’d close if you cared about the community, Yuki waited that extra week and stayed open.
It speaks volumes.
Look at the difference at The Heritage, they closed IMMEDIATELY, did the cleaning protocols, waited for tests before reopening.

Under normal circumstances the testing would have been longer to see if there would be latent side effects. We will be finding out the hard way if 100 million people take it only to find out six months later that it causes peoples knee caps to fall off. But apparently, because the pandemic was allowed to become a super duper pandemic, we may have no choice.

Finally something on the money spent:

“The Biden campaign raised a record $938 million through mid-October, cruising past the Trump campaign’s $596 million haul.”

I don’t believe the Biden amount. Gotta be at least $1.5 billion in the end.

But at least someone is talking about the money. If the amounts were reversed, you’d hear about them all day, every day.

2016 totals: Clinton $1.2 billion, Trump $450 million, or thereabouts.

Watched the latest and greatest ZOOM Hollywood Square CC meeting and it was downright nauseating. Kavey decides to give a lesson on Economics, and White allows him to go on and on. Our City lawyer evidently was suffering from major ZOOM fog or was half in the bag, didn’t even know what he was talking about. Seems like every time there is any questions pertaining to the City Charter it turns into a cluster fruck. The only clear item on that charter is that the taxpayers are stuck with the defiant Mayor for another 3 plus years. Meanwhile, there should be a well-being check on Morandi. When he questioned the Mayor about researching other areas to get money for her project as she promised, she bitterly stated she had not done ANY research and proceeded to give “if looks could kill he would be dead”. Kudos to Morandi for bringing to the forefront another one her lies to the taxpayers, and thanks to Connell also for trying to fight for us. Although, the rest of the councilors will be good little Linda puppets and pass it through. Wonder if any of them will ever wake up and realized they were elected to work for the taxpayer and not her. The most useless disgusting council ever to be elected in Pittsfield. Shame on them. What have they done for the taxpayer this year? Maybe that is why they are still hiding from us, yet then again I don’t believe they even care as long as they get paid and their basically free health insurance.

A LOT of issues wrapped into this episode!

On the one hand, I agree with Yuki’s sentiments about virus fears overwhelming reasonable thought.

Since March we have been pounded in the head with “stay home, there’s a deadly virus out there.” Yet, it turned out, 8 months passed and there wasn’t. Masses of people weren’t lying in hospital beds, dying… people around us weren’t getting excessively sick and verging on their last days…

The deadly virus never manifested, locally. Yes we all know someone who’s had it. We know of someone, either directly or through six degrees of separation who’s had it and had a hard time. We know of others who breezed through. Some of us do know one of the 40 or so people who died in our county of 128,000. But the deadly virus that STILL has people terrified of breathing the same air as a stranger never quite grew its legs.

So people realized, there’s a risk, but it’s not as big a risk as they said it was. And people starting living their lives again, in small doses.

What really would be helpful to know is, of all these people with positive tests, who is actually sick. How have they fared in all of this. I know at least one person who was infected through this series of events. She was sick (relatively mildly
so) and got better. How many of the others are in the same predicament?

I have driven by Methuselah on numerous occasions at night – prior to the Governor’s allowance for bar seating in food establishments – and you can see right through those big glass windows. There were always people sitting at the bar. Never a lot of people, but always a few.
I don’t think Cohen has been required to follow all the rules, neither those of the licensing board nor those of the Covid crisis state mandates.
But she’s not wrong, the actual health impact of these new cases is probably not going to hugely detrimental. We’ve moved beyond killing off all the elderly and infirm like we did in March and April.

You are a complete tool
It’s detrimental to patients who fear Covid and delay treatment.
It’s detrimental to those with mitigating risk factors.
It’s detrimental to the schools that are now closing and going remote only.
The students will get less of an education, many will not get breakfast and lunch, many will not get needed services, many will be less safe.
Many parents will now have to leave work for weeks to take care of children.
As for businesses, those that have closed, the employees won’t get paid, winter is coming buying fuel oil and food will be problematic.
You have got to be one of the dumbest people on here if you think the “impact” is just due to the physical manifestations of the disease to the individual. Plus since tracing is far from perfect, what happens to the poor child who’s teacher gave her Covid. That child might not show any symptoms but may bring Covid to grandma’s house and end up killing grandma.
It’s about selfishness putting everyone at risk you fcuking a$$hole

The virus did take some time to explode in Pittsfield. But it has now. Business s shutting down right and left and you can only hope that they are all being up front about infected employees. Not sure if they did away with senior hours but if so they need to bring them back right away. AND ENFORCE IT
Based on this mayors history I do not have a lot of confidence in the accuracy of any information coming out of the corner office or what she may send to her favorite friendly media. BE very careful and do not make unnecessary ventures into public places.

When the government guarantees earnings I am sure restaurants would more then happily shut down. The problem is restaurants are run by people who rely on those earnings to keep a roof over their head and food on the table.

Please also remember restaurants are essential especially in urban areas. They feed many healthcare workers, truckers, and other essential employees that otherwise don’t have the time to cook a meal.

Predictable Pittsfield politics is raising municipal taxes by around 5% once again. The Berkshire Eagle’s city reporter Amanda Burke wrote that: “Paula King, chair of the Board of Assessors, said the value of an average single-family home in Pittsfield has increased nearly 5 percent…” I have followed my native hometown’s Pittsfield politics for decades, and Pittsfield City Hall always increases local property taxes by around 5% each and every fiscal year. One would think that with Proposition 2.5, Pittsfield politics would not hike local taxes by 5% per fiscal year, but somehow they always find ways around it.

Matt Kerwood’s creative accounting papers over Pittsfield politics’ real financial situation, which has hundreds of millions in public debts and other liabilities. Matt Kerwood has an over $10 million slush fund, while Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski have personal debts. On top of the 5% municipal tax hike, the proverbial Kapanski family is paying rising sewer and water rates. If I lived in my native hometown of Pittsfield (Mass.), I would file a petition to the Pittsfield City Council to please use Matt Kerwood’s slush fund to offset the tax and fee increases.

I get very frustrated when I read about Pittsfield politics. We are in a 2020 economic recession, Covid-19 pandemic, and financially insolvent state and local governments, but Pittsfield politics predictably always raises municipal property taxes by 5% each and every fiscal year for decades on end.

Fedup Mother

My 22 year old son was at Methuselah that night. He had told me he was going to a friends house. He didn’t get home until 1:30am and when I asked him what he’d done he told me all of his friends (7 or 8 of them) went to Methuselahs at like 10:30/11 Drank tequila shots, no one had masks in the bar, no one ordered food and it was mobbed. Since then 3 of his friends and himself have COVID, and 5 of my family members. Methuselahs should have their license suspended because of this. I was angry and in shock when I found out.

We need more people in this city who are not terrified to speak out. So thank you for doing so. While the mayor may not allow a penalty against this outfit perhaps she could warn others that she has that option to use against non special interest folk should they do the same thing.

But hey blame someone else.

The super spreader event at methuselah really did some damage.
From what I understand part of the party went to Mazzeo’s. It was a group family and friends of patient V (October 25 was her actual birthdate ). The party and reservation was for exactly 10 people no more and they are in a private room at Mazzeo’s.
The real problem began when the party moved to Methuselah. Yuki, not being known for caution, and who was already above legal Covid capacity, let more people in, this party and a number of their added on friends.
The bar has not followed the seating rules (and make no mistake it’s a bar that serves some food, not a restaurant that serves some booze).
So with all the added people and all the extremely close contact, people standing around, people mixing between groups, it became a real problem.
Confounding the issue is that BHS will only test people under very very limited conditions.
They will not test you if you are asymptomatic, so many from this group went to med express which delayed some of the testing. Compounding this many stayed asymptomatic, it was only when the parents of this new 21 year old started showing signs, that people started getting tested.
That gave the people from the party a week spread the disease further. Also making this worse was the close and intimate relationship between some of these people. They live an alternative lifestyle to include, nudism and “open marriages”. So there was a second impact of intimate transmission amongst members inside the original group and outside the group.
At this same time more problems occurred at a super spreader event yet unreported, a party at Proprietors Lodge. Children and families went table to table to get candy. This created a second event that trickled into some of the food service industry, specifically the zucchini’s and roasted garlic restaurants.
The methuselah event put ill adults who worked both in the service and education sectors out into the public. This is responsible for problems at canyon ranch, Taconic high school, and at least one other learning institution.
Anyone can get Covid, it’s not your fault. It is your responsibility if you think you have it to isolate and get tested. While waiting for the test to come back, you are supposed to isolate, not go to a birthday party, wife swap, or go drinking all across Berkshire county. Many of the adults in this group, and their offspring failed to do that the medical, physical, and financial issues will be far reaching. A friend who owns a restaurant said the closing has put them back $3k -$5k a day.
That doesn’t include all the people that work there and rely on their pay to make ends meet.
That doesn’t include all the companies that supply food and linen and do payroll or provide service to these restaurants.
If you thought times were bad in April, well it’s been 7 months, and it just got a lot worse.

If the Mayor is using her position to help her developers/entrepreneurs evade health & safety violations (which she is), a real question is – what action can be taken ? I need an answer here.

What role does Mayor have regarding the Regional Alliance / Boards of health ? Anyone enlighten me ?

With enough information we (I) can take literal ACTION – we’re just sitting here waiting for our lives to be upended, let’s act ?

A baby died because of un-enforced SDWA – I’m serious. This happened. **Same property manager as Methuselah – not joking.

Hey Covid kittens whazzzzzzzzzz up?!?
Covid cases in Pittsfield, that’s what’s up! Like a silver bullet to the moon.
I guess having parties at bars isn’t a good idea.
All those people drinking and dancing and romancing. Who would have guessed?
Maybe giving the Yukster her own park let was a bad idea.
I had a perfect outfit picked out for the city hall holiday party but I guess it will have to wait.

I hope you guys like the new traffic patterns on North street and the new type of parking setup. Face in parking is all the rage!
The best part about all of this, we don’t have any idea about the impact of on biking or anything else. Why?!? We don’t know how to do traffic analysis. Who would have thought that would be important? The only thing we can see is parking fines going up and three accidents so far due to the traffic pattern changes. I think we have a lawsuit coming so that could be exciting. You know me I love lawsuits.

Remember kiddos no large groups, unless your the mayor or Yukster. Wear masks when with your family in your own home, unless your the mayor or Yukster.

I’m having a holiday special at cumbies. This is for my special friends, I’ll be wearing red.

Hey Dan,
So before you go rudely sharing information about people you don’t know why don’t you get your facts straight. It’s pretty pathetic that the world is in the middle of a pandemic and you’re talking shit about people. They were in the legal limits of 10 people at the restaurant, and went to meth right after and stuck to their own table minding their business. It’s people like you that are wrong with this world.

What a mayor.
Councilors: we ask you find other sources of funding
Mooyer: ok
Councilors: did you find other sources of funding
Mooyer: No I ignored the petition and figured I’d just keep asking.

If this isn’t Tyer arrogance I don’t know what is.

Connell and Morandi, who represents part of the Morningside area, criticized Tyer for failing to act on a petition filed by them and the two other councilors who voted against the program last year.

The petition called on Tyer to bring together a working group to study alternative sources of funding for her program, he said, and she agreed to put White and Morandi on such a working group.

Under questioning from Morandi, Tyer acknowledged that the group never met.

“You went against your word,” Morandi said.

Tyer denied Morandi’s claim that she and her team failed to try to find an alternative funding source, and indicated they decided to wait and reintroduce the proposal at a more favorable time.

“We worked really hard putting this proposal together,” she said. “We simply decided to set this aside until we felt more confident bringing it back, and that’s what we did.”

Ok so now you are lying and are directly contradicting what others have directly said, including Yuki herself.
So now you’re the liar.
Yuki, “ “The evening went well, and I don’t believe anyone outside of the birthday party who were at Methuselah that evening contracted COVID. (Lie- tracing indicates otherwise, including her staff and Yuki) My exposure came after we closed the bar (she was not part of the party). The person who led the party is a close personal friend and he stayed on to help us clean up and close, and we had a shift drink before we called it a night. About a week later, when he received his test results, he called to inform me he tested positive for COVID.”

So the person “who led the party” is the one Yuki says had Covid. He infected her “after they closed the bar”. Covid is only infectious 4-30 days after getting it, so he went to the party infected.
Also one of the other party goers had already had a test pending and she made a joke about it on Instagram. It’s since been deleted but the screen capture exists on Facebook.

So if, as Yuki claims, she was infected by the party organizer, then he came to the party fully infected and shedding the virus.
So like everyone, except you, has been saying, the group infected the public and there was at least one test pending and a guy who was infectious enough to give Yuki Covid.

Now others that were there that night, were also infected. They were not part of the party but occupied the same dangerous space with lax rules and no social distancing and barely any mask use.

Now onto the trace, I think the count is 46 or maybe 55 people from this one event are now infected and have tested positive. That’s what tracing does, it traces back to the original patient as best they can. The trace ends on north street at methuselah. Now Yuki’s close personal friend might be able to let people know where he thinks he got it from, but he walked into that bar infected and I presume he infected the party goers as well as Yuki along the way.

Yes there are problems elsewhere but the largest trace back right now with confirmed cases is from methuselah. Most concerning is that after Yuki had an idea there might be an issue with Covid, I’m sure her “close personal friend” didn’t wait a week to tell her he got tested, Yuki kept the bar open. Then Yuki somehow makes the claim that her last staff person got infected elsewhere at a “different party”. Odd that the trace and testing time frame would suggest otherwise.

Feel free to name the people involved or if you’d like I’m sure I can dig up the names and the relationships.

So when you are a teacher and can’t contain yourself, go out to a party while you are waiting for a Covid test. It’s not your fault when the entire school system has to go back to remote learning for the rest of the semester.

Good job to Yuki for overcrowding. Her friends, and patrons who had to go out while waiting for tests. You did a great service to the community now a bunch of kids in need will miss out on education, meals, and services.

What a poorly worded memo. Specifically when they say the will no longer be permitted to do the following, then say, you are permitted to do the following.
Just tell them what they are now limited to don’t say what they used to be able to do.
People like Proprietors will act confused when they violate the order.

OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
70 Allen Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201
Steady uptick in COVID-19 cases in Pittsfield result in new restrictions, temporary
closures

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (Nov. 12, 2020) – With the number of new positive COVID-19 cases continuing to rise in Pittsfield, and with growing levels of concern for the potential of further community spread, on Thursday, the city’s COVID-19 Task Force identified several immediate actions to slow the spread of the virus in the city.

Since Oct. 22, there have been 169 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pittsfield. These cases have been directly attributed to large get-togethers in restaurants and large private gatherings held in residences and attended by individuals from multiple households.

“We have reached a point of crisis in our city that impacts our entire community. The number of COVID-19 cases have grown exponentially over a very short period of time,” said Mayor Linda Tyer. “Based on our current case rates and using the state’s new calculations to determine risk, Pittsfield has moved into the red category, making us a high-risk community. We need to take aggressive action now to get us back on the right course and reverse this alarming trend.”

Beginning Friday, Nov. 13, all of the following actions will take effect:

-Today, the Pittsfield Board of Health will be issuing an emergency order suspending
table service at city restaurants until further notice. Local eateries will still be allowed to provide take-out and delivery service. Patrons should feel free to utilize the city’s temporary “grab-and-go” zones for food pickup, which were installed this past spring throughout the downtown. These designated areas offer free and time limited space to allow for quick customer turnover and social distancing.

-Pittsfield Public Schools will transition to all-remote learning through Friday, Dec. 4. Current elementary, middle, and high school schedules will be followed.
Meals will be available tomorrow for children 18 and under. They can be picked up
between 11:45 a.m. -12:15 p.m. at the following sites:
* Conte Community School, 200 W. Union St.
* Morningside Community School, 100 Burbank St.
* Allendale Elementary School, 180 Connecticut Ave.
* Egremont Elementary School, 84 Egremont Ave.

For more information, please visit the district’s website at pittsfield.net.

-The Board of Health will issue an emergency order stepping back the City of
Pittsfield to Step 1 of Phase 3. Until further notice, the following sectors are no longer
permitted to do the following:
* Indoor performance venues will be permitted to open with 50 percent capacity
with a maximum of 250 people.
* Outdoor performance venue capacity will increase to 50 percent with a max of
250 people.
* For arcades and indoor and outdoor recreation businesses, additional Step II
activities like trampolines, obstacle courses, roller rinks and laser tag will also
be permitted to open and capacity will increase to 50 percent.
* Fitting rooms will be permitted to open in all types of retail stores.
* Gyms, museums, libraries and driving and flight schools will also be
permitted to increase their capacity to 50 percent.

Being a high-risk community also means that the state’s current gathering order changes in one way.
Currently, the gathering limits are:
* Indoor gatherings at private residences is 10.
* Outdoor gathering limit for private residences is 25 people.
* Indoor gatherings at event venues and other public spaces is 25.
* Now that Pittsfield is high-risk, outdoor gatherings are now reduced to 50.

For more information on sector specific guidance, please visit http://www.mass.gov/reopening.

– Municipal buildings will be closed to the general public. Community members can
visit the city’s website, http://www.cityofpittsfield.org, to manage their business needs.

Residents should continue to utilize the drop box located in the rear of City Hall to
submit correspondence that would normally have to be dropped off at City Hall.
Individuals seeking to make an appointment or those with specific questions for city
departments, should utilize the City Hall directory, 413-449-5600, during the hours of
8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for assistance. To arrange fingerprinting for firearms, please the Pittsfield Police Department at 448-9716; for licensing prints, please call 448-9723.

To stay connected to city updates on the coronavirus, a COVID-19 link is available on
the home page of the city’s website and will feature continuous updates from the city.
The public is also encouraged to use the subscription service to receive a notification
when a new update from the city is available and sign up for CodeRED.

Lockdowns don’t work against covid, face masks don’t work.
As Gov. Noem of S.D. stated, personal responsibility is key.

Through contact tracing it is known by the city where this began, they are not revealing which is complete BS since so many people and businesses are being slandered!
there were 2 large Halloween parties, 1st was an underage kids party, at Jiminy Peak hosted by Taya Mazzeo! (does she work at Mazzeos?) the 2nd was a large house party hosted by Mark Amuso (mom Kathy on the license board,)
Both large gatherings took place before the night in question and had many positive cases as a result of them. (both exceeded # guidelines)
