PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

First of Two Parts

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY Jan. 4, 2021) — THE PLANET recently heard from former city council president and mayoral candidate Melissa Mazzeo regarding the COVID-19 outbreak that involved several Pittsfield restaurants. Mazzeo and husband Tony own Mazzeo’s restaurant  Restaurant at the former Yellow Astor location on outer South Street.

As a serious threat to public health, this was one of 2020’s most important stories. THE PLANET shares this two-part series to shed more light on the thinking and actions behind the pressures restaurants faced and policies enacted by the city.

In this note, Melissa refers to “Mazzeo’s Christmas Miracle.” [ED. NOTE: We apologize for the spacing problems. A technical gremlin didn’t get fixed until after publication.]

THE PLANET presents Mazzeo’s message:

———- ooo ———-

MAZZEO: “Hope you had a nice Christmas with friends and family. I wanted to give you an insight into MAZZEO’S CHRISTMAS MIRACLE.  The Mayor and her Director of  Public Health Gina Armstrong finally came clean that Mazzeo’s [Restaurant] had nothing to do with the [COVID] outbreak that occurred at Methuselah’s and then continued to spread throughout Pittsfield. From the first whispers to the media firestorm, the mayor and Health Department continued to state that the party started at Mazzeo’s. They called it a private party, when it was just a legal reservation.

MELISSA MAZZEO

After the Mayor abruptly closed all Pittsfield restaurants and the restaurant owners pushed back, we continually asked Gina and the Board of Health to show us the data that linked any positive outbreak to Mazzeo’s. I also pointed out the fact that the Health Dept never contacted us about possible contamination from the group that had dinner. We only knew about it because a member of the party told us. I repeatedly called and e-mailed Gina asking to see data. I said if they had none, we wanted a public apology. Then Yuki Cohen was seen unmasked and in violation of COVID rules. After crying foul and starting her GO FUND ME effort, she demanded data too. So I guess they felt it was time to come clean. After two months of linking our name with the huge outbreak, yet keeping names of other offenders silent, they caved.

If you look close, you will see a few short lines in the newspaper article that says “the transmission did not occur at Mazzeo’s.” They spelled out how it started and how many were infected at each of the three sources:  1. Methusala’s. 2. Port Smit’s and 3 Kathy Amuso’s son’s Halloween house party.  So you can see why Mazzeo’s owners, staff, and customers were angry with the constant, unfounded spotlight on us, yet the Amuso house party was only mentioned as a private house gathering.  I guess we will have to be happy with this little mention in the story and sure hope people didn’t skim through.
Here is wishing you a Happy New Year
MEL
———- ooo ———-
After receiving this, we reached out to mayor Linda Tyer; Gina Armstrong, head of the city Health Department; and Kathy Amuso. We present Tyer’s and Amuso’s comments here. In part two of this series on Wednesday, we shall share Armstrong’s reply to THE PLANET, along with Mazzeo’s redirect.

TYER: Hi Dan.  I am not going to respond to Mrs. Mazzeo.  However, I would like to assure you and your readers that my COVID-19 Task Force and the Pittsfield Board of Health take every single COVID situation with great care and concern.  Our number one priority is protecting public health and slowing the spread of coronavirus. Based on the data that is collected daily through

LINDA TYER

various sources and analyzed to assess constantly evolving circumstances, we have had to make very difficult decisions like close our schools or temporarily suspend indoor dining. In addition, the Board of Health has provided countless hours of guidance, conducted inspections, issued warnings and fines.  We are constantly weighing risk. As I write this to you, Pittsfield has had 1,424 confirmed cases, 46 deaths, and 452 households are currently quarantined.  This current circumstance is just so serious. I really must encourage, again, everyone to practice all the safety precautions that we all know work.  If we ever want to get out of our living rooms and off of zoom meetings, we’ve just got to stay in this fight.

A very Happy New Year to you and all of your readers.  Bye 2020!
———- ooo ———-
Kathy Amuso, who was on vacation from her job at Berkshire Health Systems, responded with a brief statement:
AMUSO: Thanks for reaching out to me. I am not sure why The Eagle and Melissa Mazzeo targeted my family when my son was renting a house with two of his friends. There was no Halloween party.  I know people stopped over to their house that night. As far as I know, it was a private house gathering.

As I understand it, it was a private gathering of medical students dressed like doctors, nurses and candy stripers who were meeting privately to discuss what they could do to help with the corona virus.
It was all well intentioned until someone showed up with a keg and a burlap bag full of joints. My sources tell me the keg was never opened and the joints were flushed down the toilet as is the custom at that residence.

The city couldn’t be more a mess if they elected somebody to mess it up, oh wait they did: Linda Tyer.

The “Covid task force” is made up of people that don’t know really anything about public health. There are six entities responsible for the outbreak of Covid.
BHS, Linda Tyer, Gina Armstrong, Yuki Cohen, Portsmits, the Amusos. Honorable mention to the Volastro’s, and the nursing administrators at Fairview and Hillcrest commons.

The contact tracing in Berkshire county, and Pittsfield in particular, is borderline criminal.
Gina hasn’t been doing her job because she doesn’t understand what it is. Ask anyone who’s had Covid or had a test. No follow up whatsoever. I had Covid, 7 weeks later I was called by a member of the board of health (a public health nurse) to tell me I should quarantine. When I told them I had already been in quarantine, been to the hospital, and now have tested negative. The woman just hung up. I tried calling back, busy signal, left a message on the main line. Nothing. It’s been 11 weeks. They have not contacted anyone on the list I gave for close contacts.

The mayor and health department has managed this poorly. It’s criminal. People have died because of Linda Tyer’s negligence.

Here is a snippet of an article from March 9, 2020 when the virus was first making its presence felt in Pittsfield.(State confirms five cases of coronavirus in Berkshire County | Archives | berkshireeagle.com) Gina Armstrong said it was the hospitals’ job to do the Covid-19 tracking/tracing. Not the board of healths job.

City leaders and those at BHS at first provided conflicting information about which agencies were in charge of tracking those with whom infected people came into contact. Pittsfield Health Director Gina Armstrong said that responsibility falls to medical professionals, while Leary said the board of health in the town where an infected person resides is responsible for contact investigations.

The lovely Linda Tyer and Tricia Farley Bouvier need to look at themselves in the proverbial mirror when it comes to the Covid-19 pandemic debacle in Pittsfield. When women say that they want to be leaders, then they should take accountability for both their successes and failures. To be clear, the lovely ladies who run Pittsfield politics have failed the public during the coronavirus pandemic.

What does Mazzeo want them to call a private house party? Sounds to me that is exactly what it was. What is a “legal” reservation? Are there illegal reservations? A “legal” reservation in a private room downstairs where other “legal” reservations were not allowed sound a lot like a “private party” to me. I also don’t ever recall the city sating there was spread at Mazzeo’s. What they said was the people started at Mazzeo’s then went to Methusala’s. She wants a public apology for stating the facts?

Speaking of public apologies, doesn’t she owe Clairmont one of those.

Cause you stoopid

In MA a legal reservation is one that complies with the laws at the time of the pandemic orders.
At the time a legal reservation would have been for 10 people or less. Which it was at Mazzeo’s.
Now where it went off the rails was when the party went to methuselah’s added people (now too many people at one table) and where Yuki both only served them alcohol (no meal although she says there was a cake but no pictures showed that). That would be in violation of the emergency orders and “illegal”. As would be after hours service of say a licensing board member, having sex in a place where food is prepared.
An illegal party would be like the Amuso one.
Again more than ten people in a private residence (there were 50-60).
Illegal sale of alcohol, minors drinking alcohol. So I’d say yes, an “illegal” party on many fronts.
What you seem to like to portray here is that the mayor and the paper and the health department all put forth that it was the restaurants that were spreaders, when it was Amuso’s illegal party, Yuki’s bar (violating her license), and Portsmits.
They closed down the restaurant industry because of Amuso, Yuki, and Portsmits (which was closed anyway). That’s the mayor using her office to draw attention away from the real problem.

It’s like fat Barry filing a lawsuit because he wants to blame his loss of clients on income on everyone else except himself. My office quit using him because of that cumbies stunt. The guy has issues.

Hi Dan,
The Berkshire Eagle will not print negative articles abut this administration. Our community will be better served if this pseudo-newspaper were to close. Below is my letter to the editor, sent over 2 weeks ago, that the Eagle has refused to print.

12/19/20
Dear Editor;

The Berkshire Eagle missed the real story in their reporting on the fine issued to Methusela’s bar by the Board of Health, Methuselah fined, owner to contest, Berkshire Eagle December 18th. The important part of the story, which wasn’t reported, is that Councilor Cohen’s colleague with whom she violated the regulations is Licensing Board member and Ward 6 City Councilor Dina Lampiasi. In September, I filed a petition to the City Council requesting that the Mayor Tyer remove Councilor Lampiasi from the Licensing Board, due to conflict of interests. Mayor Tyer, in her memorandum of January 10th, stated that Ms. Lampiasi needs to remain on the Licensing Board because “her dedication and insight are irreplaceable”. A statement as strong as this would indicate that Ms. Lampiasi is well aware of the rules being broken. Or perhaps, Ms. Lampiasi was participating in an undercover sting operation to entrap Methusela’s bar. If indeed, Licensing Board member Lampiasi is party to the violation, then Mayor Tyer needs to follow her own advice that she stated in this article and hold Councilor Lampiasi to a higher standard as a member of the Licensing Board and remove her from the board.

It almost looks like Tyer is honing her obfuscation skills in order to run for higher office. It also seems clear that there are zero checks and balances in our governement local or state. Lampiasis should resign because little by little it will become more obvious that she was appointed for reasons other than oversight. And the mayors agenda is becoming clearer by the day although most people have already zoned in on it.

I don’t want it to get lost. It’s an object lesson in lamestream “journalism”:

Perfect example of lamestream leftist lies with this Trump’s call with Ratsassberger:
Find 11,780 votes? Shit, more like find 117,800 votes. Or, disqualify 500,000 Biden votes.

Listen to the four minutes released. That must be all they have or they’d release more.

Nothing wrong with a president calling a secretary of state and basically saying, “Do you job, and do it honestly.”

Be good to get a count on how many times Bernstein has fatuously said that “it is worse than Watergate” since about 1980 or so.

Watch also for the characterizations of what Trump said or how he sounded–“angry,” “frustrated,” “intimidating”–all just bull shit false, lying opinions.

Trump et al. kept asking the GA officials to show them the results of their investigation/report into the fraud.

Answers: no. Essentially, we found no evidence of fraud and we don’t have to show you how we came to that conclusion.

I read through the transcript quickly. Trump goes through the fraudulent votes, totally at least 100,000 altogether.

But all we need, Mr. Ratsassburger, is 11,780. So out of 100,000+ illegal votes, you can’t find that many? because you should be able to find 10 times that.

I think it’s better to go slowly with the shots just in case there is a problem with the vaccine for some people. That way the vaccine could be stopped before more problems occur. I hate coffee, but I do trust the vaccine overall, but some people do have sensitivity to it for lots of reasons. I think it’s better to go slow to make sure people respond well to it by finding out BEFORE they get the vaccine if they have any of these sensitivities and that can only be done by asking questions about each person’s health background. That can’t be rushed.

Quite frankly I think it should be illegal to promote a fund me for a licensed bar owner. Especially a multiple offender? No matter who it is. Aren’t that tax laws, private business and licensing protocol? Is this even legal?.

Why would anyone want to help fund any health or safety violator? Why would anyone fund a bias news paper that gets outsmarted by a one man grinding machine.

Private house parties and bar rooms not following guidelines got our schools closed and sent this flattened virus everywhere.I am disgusted by the mayor blaming Mazzeo. Now the mayor needs to get to the bottom of what happened so we understand. The Halloween parties need to be laid out as to what exactly went on.The health and safety officer at the School department needs to be investigated tobsee if he attended a party.Never heard of so much irresponsibility with a school safety officer and a councilor

I see the 200 senators and representatives in MA are in line for a nearly $5,000 raise, a 6.4% raise to their current base salary. According to the Herald it also looks like their expense accounts are going up 4.89%. This is the 3rd raise in 3 sessions. I don’t know about anyone else here on this board, but did anyone see a 6% raise this year? Better yet, most people would have been willing to lose 6% of their salary in order to save their job, keep their health insurance, or even keep a business afloat. It appears Baker & Polito have already done the right thing and rejected their raises.

This is your electorate, people like TFB and Hinds have advocated for business closures, lockdowns, with no plan in place to support those who lost everything. Now they are cleaning up with a fat 6% raise while everyone else suffers. Dan, is there a way to communicate with our local reps/senators to inquire on if they will accept the raise? I don’t think the general public is aware of this and would certainly be interested in knowing if they do.

You don’t have to call them nor ask them outright. If any one of them refuses the raise they will make sure that the news is above the fold on page one.

Does anyone know if the early voting anywhere is counted before the final tally? In other words can those early votes be known tabulations?

If es and punishment should be triple until the Covid virus is under control. Otherwise you will see idiots repeating crimes and acting like buffoons. No more Mr. Nice Cop. Especially traffic laws. Speeding, driving to endanger. There are those on the road that try to intimidate drivers because they’re in a hurry.

City site says there are over 1100 ACTIVE KNOWN cases in Pittsfield right now with over 400 homes supposedly in quarantine. Which means there are actually many more cases walking around we don’t know about.
Early advice for elders going shopping during early elder hours is good advice. Although does not look like any stores enforcing it anymore as I see younger people mixed in early all the time.

There’s 19 more today across three households two in Pittsfield and one in Richmond. My neighbor got their tests back, 6 in their house, 6 at his sisters, 7 at their cousins. The cousins in Richmond had family members over, they then went to each house, infected the whole lot, including kids that are 5-16 years old.

Happy new year Covid kittens! Hope you all stayed home to help flatten the curve!
Me and the Mrs didn’t we had several gatherings to attend to.
We had a fine time visiting with Andrea and her close friend and advisor Andy. They make such a cute couple…of people that ONLY work together.
Poor John got kicked to the curb, but he’s got his rebound gal.
We swung by Yuki’s for an after hours nightcap, we made sure to keep the lights low and the windows covered. Her speakeasy password this week is “go funk me” it will change at midnight to “herpes for free”.
We capped off the night by driving over to Mazzeo’s and egging the place. The eggs were frozen so all it did was dent some of the siding.

PS we had our first hit and run of the year, right on North Street in the BIKE LANE.
Some drunk drivers drove into the bike land and sideswiped two cars.

PPS if there’s anyone who knows a good Lexus bodywork specialist, let me know. Cash deal, no insurance, asking for a friend.

Keep it vibrant and dynamic in 2021.

PPPS that’s code to Matt to get get working on the new handouts for our friends. I mean constituents. If you see Matt congratulate him on his hair plugs.

What’s the back story to the mayor’s fb post last week saying that she and Bare bare couldn’t go past the end of their driveway? (See her French onion soup post)
Is is because their were Barbarians at the gate?

When the mayor can’t even follow the state rules and regs for travel, why even fine Yuki?

So the question is did she quarantine? If you go to NH to vaca, you’ve got to quarantine for 10-14 days when you come back. She wasn’t just driving through, she went to the resort with Barry.

Massachusetts residents are urged to limit any out-of-State travel only to States designated as COVID-19 lower-risk States.
The only low risk state is Hawaii.

In determining whether you are required to complete the Massachusetts Travel Form and whether you may be required to comply with the 10-day quarantine requirement, you will be treated as “arriving from” a place other than a COVID-19 lower-risk state if you were present in any State or jurisdiction not on the list of COVID-19 lower-risk states for more than a transitory period of time in the last 14 days.

We should all donate our personal and retirement savings and estates in our last wills to Matt Kerwood’s +$10 million slush fund. The lovely Linda Tyer should raise municipal taxes, fees, and public debts and other liabilities to the highest level allowed under the law. Pittsfield would be known as the city government with a huge slush fund and the highest municipal taxes, fees, and public debts and other liabilities in the World. In closing, Pittsfield politics is almost there!

Matt should take some of that money and use it for his forensic audit. Can some councilor please put this before the council and public for a vote? With all this free cash sitting around waiting to be spent on special interest folk it seems only fair that the people get something out of it. The last few years interest would pay for the audit.
Matt if you push for this and we get a real legit audit I would vote for you for mayor. You know you have always wanted it. Be the man.

COVID-19 came from a Chinese lab either accidentally or on purpose. Lots more evidence that is what happened and it did not originate in a wet market.

No serious effort was made to stop the virus only to cover it up. China made ZERO effort to save over 1 million people. The death count is worse than many wars. China is only a hero to the far left. To most people, China is responsible for mass murder.

Had enough of this, all year long. Senseless Marxist goons. They are not held to account for their violence and lawlessness.

Why?

Can’t someone just shoot these BLMPOSANTIFAPOS? We won’t get justice any other way, I don’t think.
