ADD 1 WEDNESDAY 1:04 p.m. — THE PLANET received this announcement from the Pittsfield Police Department:
On Monday May 10, 2021 at 2:23 PM, the Pittsfield Police Department received the report of a suspicious motor vehicle in Blue Anchor Park on upper North Street in Pittsfield, adjacent to Pontoosuc Lake. Initial responding officers determined that the vehicle may have been abandoned, as it was revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle was reported missing out of New York State on May 5, 2021.
Further investigation has led to the belief that it is unlikely that the missing individual left the area by any other means, and that a search of Pontoosuc Lake waters would be required. Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, and Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office resources were requested for the following morning, Tuesday May 11, 2021. After searching the water for 7 hours, it was determined that additional resources and equipment would be required to continue.
This morning, the search of Pontoosuc Lake search resumed and will be active until such time that a recovery is made, those involved have reached their daily limitation, or the suspected missing party is located by other means.
We ask that the public avoid the area of Blue Anchor Park and the Pontoosuc Lake boat ramp in order to allow our public safety partners to maneuver freely.

The exhibit opens Saturday at the Williamstown Historical Museum with a summer exposition exploring the town’s impact on America’s pastime and how baseball has affected the area.
Forensic Schmensic — When THE PLANET posted results of our city council poll, seven of the eight responders favored a forensic audit. Only one did not. Here’s what at-large councilor Pete White said:
I do not support a forensic audit because from the research I have done they are most often used when fraud is suspected. I do not suspect that there is fraud happening in our city departments to warrant this type of audit. I do believe that there are differences of opinions on how city government should operate and use funds.
We have a financial audit done each year that is reviewed by the Council in a joint meeting with the School Committee. The City Council also gets expense reports that are reviewed by the Finance Subcommittee quarterly. Through these two processes the Council has the opportunity to ask questions if something does not look right and needs addressing.
If the cost is not prohibitive I would be interested in information found by an Organizational Study. An organizational study would look at the city’s organizational structure, processes and practices that affect how the city operates. Depending on the cost I would support this type of review for all city departments. I would first want to see the results of past studies done and what suggestions were followed or ignored and why before spending more funds on another study.
Our communications with our constituents in multiple ways and the feedback they provide give us valuable information on city services. Following how well the needs and concerns of our constituents are addressed is my preferred way of knowing what needs to be adjusted and addressed within city government. This method also does not tie up more funds in studies that could go directly to the services that effect quality of life for our constituents.
Let’s briefly parse these four paragraphs:
Paragraph 1 — White employs an overgeneralization about the implications of authorizing such an audit. He implies that if he okays this audit, he suspects fraud. That’s fallacious, however. A forensic audit does not necessarily suggest a suspicion of criminal wrongdoing.
Paragraph 2 — The annual in-house financial audit done each year by the council and school committee cannot provide the assurance of an outside, independent deeper look into the books.
Paragraph 3 — White does not define “prohibitive cost.”
Paragraph 4 — What kinds of “communication” with constituents? Twice a month Zoom meetings that discourage citizen participation? Does he consider the wagon circling and back slapping proper “communication.”

I, Jonathan Melle, have followed my native hometown’s Pittsfield politics for decades now, and it is always totally predictable. Every fiscal year, Pittsfield politics increases its spending by around 5%, increases its fees way above the rate of inflation, and increases its public debts and other liabilities by tens of millions of dollars. In all the decades I have followed Pittsfield politics, the municipal budget NEVER changes its financially unsustainable trends. Pittsfield Massachusetts has had many decades in a row of population and job loss, but its municipal spending and public debts/liabilities have substantially increased. Pittsfield politics’ financial management ratio is the WORST public management ratio possible. Pittsfield politics is putting the burden of its high spending ways on the backs of the people who can least afford it, including Veterans, Senior Citizens, low to moderate income renters and homeowners, small businesses, and the like. What frustrates me to no end is that Matt Kerwood is always building his huge slush fund city accounts that are estimated to be between $10 million to $15 million, while raising municipal taxes, fees, debts/liabilities to record high levels. To be clear, Pittsfield politics is growing the size of its municipal government and public school district, while the people and taxpayers are shrinking in numbers, and Matt Kerwood is putting their hard earned tax dollars into his excessive reserve accounts to boot. In closing, Matt Kerwood and the Lovely Linda have earned the sarcastic slogan, “Business as usual in Pittsfield politics”!

I am looking over Matt Kerwood and the Lovely Linda’s budget proposal. The following items stands out to me.
* Enterprise funds: Sewer increases by 46.9% & DPU Wastewater increases by 59.5%
* Free Cash decreases by 100%
* OPEB is never funded
* Community Preservation increases by 12.5%
* Predictably for decades on end in Pittsfield politics, All Expenditures increases by 5%
* What is the line item Unclassified and why is it such a large financial number?: $53,306,376
* How does Matt Kerwood know what state aid figures will be when Beacon Hill lawmakers in Boston have yet to negotiate and pass the fiscal year 2022 state budget?
* Pittsfield’s total outstanding direct debt is : $164,606,771, which does NOT include Pittsfield unfunded OPEB liabilities
* Matt Kerwood has not proposed his fiscal year 2022 capital budget yet, which is always well over $10,000,000 per fiscal year
Where is all the tax $$ going that is collected from the cannabis sales? They took in more than expected.

Was visiting family in Pittsfield last weekend and was stunned by the mess they’ve made of North St., with 2 blocks of bike lanes and confusing parking out from the curb. I was also shocked at all the cameras attached to every traffic light pole downtown. Talk about overkill on surveillance!

While waiting for my first post to make through the filtering system used by the planet I read the local hate rag and lo and behold the hate that is spewed on their pages makes me wonder how they get away with it! I can understand why the elderly population in Berkshire county that only get their information through these types of sources are bigoted and mean spirited. Pertaining to the Clapp Park issue it is a shame. Have noticed since Spring has sprung, that parents are working in ALL the City parks trying their best to ready fields for soccer, lacrosse and baseball. Why are the parents and coaches having to do this? Where are our taxes going? Why is the City adding more parks if they can’t figure out how to take care of the ones we already have? Bottom line, the City Administration does not care about the children in Pittsfield. I live in the neighborhood of Allendale School and shake my head every time I drive by. City paid to put a bunch of new picnic tables out on the PCB ridden yard so kids can safely eat outside due to poor ventilation in the school and concern for COVID. So parents take your pick for your child, Cancer or Covid. The City tore up the street in front of the school months ago due to a water main break, yet they have not repaired the road. Each rainstorm it washes out more. Latest excuse, asphalt plants aren’t open, this is just another Administration lie!
Tried to watch the latest and greatest City Clownsil meeting last night but could not stomach it. There is not one ounce of professionalism. Never seen such a miserable bunch of people, sitting with complete look of disgust on their faces, rolling their eyes at each other, many looking like they have not bathe in days, dogs lying on the bed, spouses putting away laundry in the background, slugging their beverages, talking to other residents in their home not paying a bit of attention to the meeting, playing with their phones, leaving the room, slobbering their dinners, the Mayor keeps lifting her butt cheeks, can’t figure out if she she bored, nervous or maybe she is farting her dinner away or has hemorrhoids from sitting on her butt doing nothing for almost 5 years, or maybe she and Bare Bare can’t afford a comfortable chair. While I’m no more a fan of the left-wing Parrot than you are Annu, the truth is that the DPH did not release figures for local communities-except for a few notables that saw either a large increase or decrease. Only county figures were released. Just like COVID data, individual community numbers will likely be released at a later date. All of the released data is available on the DPH web site.

That’s a lie. The city keeps track of its numbers via DPH local reporting. Every opioid death is tracked back to at least the city it happened in. Since a fairly high percentage of these deaths happen to people with “no known address” they should at least report on the “where” of where it happened.

And then there’s that tragic unsolved Plunkett Street Pittsfield, MA death of an 11-year-old child from Florida and the death of the little girl’s drug addled alcoholic suicidal unemployed father, also from Florida.

The young girl’s name was Hannah, unless you’re referring to the coverup of another dead 11-year-old child in Pittsfield, MA. which would not surprise me. Are you saying that saying that Hannah was intentionally killed, murdered, and the corrupt PPD are covering this up, and protecting a nasty piece work, a crackhead/crackwhore?, because I would believe that. I’ve always found it hard to believe that no one checked on the well being of this young girl from late June when she was last seen alive, through the entire HOT month of July and into the first HOT week of August when her little rotting corpse was finally discovered rolled up in a carpet. But I did read that while his daughter was rotting away, her father was hospitalized at Jones 3 because he was suicidal. Certainly he had an opportunity to report the death of his daughter to someone instead of leaving her little corpse to rot away. I only see one victim in this tragedy, and it isn’t the father, even if he was manipulated by a nasty piece of work and her drug dealing boyfriend. But without a doubt, I would believe that the cops would protect a nasty piece of work and a drug dealer before they’d protect an innocent child. I’ve also read that the PPD was nasty to the grieving mother of the dead child. She allegedly couldn’t get a straight answer from the cops. The life and the death of this child did not appear to be a priority for the city of Pittsfield, the cops, or DCF. I’ve never seen a protest in Park Square over the death of this young girl. Where was the outrage? I believe the city of Pittsfield/cops/DCF wanted the death of this child to disappear quickly, like it had never happened.

I happened to be driving on Churchill , almost to the causeway and I noticed about 20 police vehicles parked in a driveway of a house up on the west side of Churchill. They were from different towns. Could this have something to do with the Pontoosuc lake thing?

This is what happens when all police are being called racists. The national murder rate in our country has skyrocketed. Police are being ambushed. Our VP Kamala Harris was bailing out violent rioters including ones that attacked federal buildings. Farmers and land owners in South Africa are being murdered after Marxists started the cancel culture in that area. In our country white farmers will not be given bailout money from Biden in his COVID relief package. That is 4 billion dollars unless you happen to be white. Israel is on the brink of war, but Progressives do not like Biden’s response. They want our ally Israel to suffer it seems. Omarr and her far left cronies do not want us to support Israel just as the radical Islamists are against Israel.
Evidently since Park Commission Chairman Tony Demartino’s son no longer plays baseball for Taconic High School he could care less about the condition of the City’s athletic fields. Currently his son is excelling at baseball in college. Wonder how Tony would have felt as a parent when his son was being scouted out by colleges for a baseball scholarship and had to play on a JV field. Bet he would not have liked it at all! Guess he no longer cares as he no longer needs the fields, maybe he should step down as a member of the Park Commission.

Thank you for sharing your email letter about PAC Man Richie Neal proudly saying that he gave Williams College a $4.2 million stimulus check, despite the fact that Williams College has a multi-billion-dollar slush fund (or endowment). I enjoy reading your political views about Great Barrington, Berkshire County, Beacon Hill, and Swamp politics. I agree with you that all of the ruling elites from Great Barrington on down to the Swamp do nothing but disservices to little guys like you and me.
Senator Ed Markey is critical of Israel, but now Israel is being bombarded with Hamas’ missiles from Palestine, but we are not hearing from the U.S. Senator from Chevy Chase, Maryland who, like Billionaire John Forbes Kerry, spews useless hot air about the Green New Deal and climate change, while the U.S.A. is the number 2 polluter of greenhouse gasses in the World behind China. I do not understand what Joe Biden is doing other than having the highest inflation rate in 13 years, which is far worse than any federal tax on the working class.
I have been reading letters to the Editor of the Dirty Bird (Berkshire Eagle) from citizens and political candidates in Lee Massachusetts about the corrupt EPA and heavily indebted GE’s plan to put a toxic waste dump there. The people who live in Lee and Lenoxdale mostly oppose the horrible settlement, but the ruling elites, including Chrome Down and Smitty Pignatelli, along with PAC Man Richie Neal, are still screwing the people over. If I lived in Lee or Lenoxdale, and my property value plummeted from a toxic waste dump in my neighborhood, I would ask the ruling elites to pay me for my financial losses, but when my telephone doesn’t ring, I would know I received yet another disservice from my corrupt politicians who only answer their telephones for greedy lobbyists.
Lastly, I agree with you about protesting Great Barrington renaming their middle school after registered Communist W.E.B. DuBois, who was friends with Stalin, who killed millions more innocent people than Hitler. We should never forget our history, especially now when the ruling elites and corporate elites are profiting off of the inequitable K-shaped recovery/recession we are in. If one studied history 100 years ago from 2021, he or she would find parallels to current events. When the World was in crisis with economic inequality, huge public debts, rising inflation, and political instability 100 years ago, Adolf Hitler rose to power, and we all know what followed: The Holocaust, World War 2, and then Stalin wanting to control all of Europe during the Cold War where the World was on the brink of being nuked for decades on end.

Representative Neil has failed miserably to help veterans, elderly, working poor, small businesses, students, and disabled. The good news he has gone out of his way to give a relief check to Williams College for 4.2 million dollars. Williams College has an endowment 0f $2,749,653,000.00, tuition is $55, 450.00 and the average professor makes $150,000.00 a year with benefits. Williams College is literally worth BILLIONS and Richie Neal is proud to buy them lunch on out tab. What a guy. Of Course the rest of the MA delegation helped as well.
The same delegation that stiffed millions of veterans, workers, small businesses, elderly and disabled had to move aside so a billionaire coult get a big check. Will BIll Gates be getting Food Stamps next, will the Beacon Hill Gang get new electric cars to sit around the State House to steal our money too?
