PUMP-TRACK DESTRUCTION OF SPRINGSIDE PARK A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF RAMPANT CORRUPTION IN TYERVILLE

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION SEPT. 17-9, 2021) — Two things seem clear — seem, we say — about the controversial mountain bike complex an outside for-profit developer, with the aid of complicit city officials, wants to place in the center of taxpayer-owned Springside Park: (a) the project emits an odor of corruption, and (b) it’s another of Pittsfield’s infamous “Done Deals.”
We therefore (a) would not be surprised if envelopes have been exchanged, little love notes of the kind you used to exchange in, uh, 4th grade, and (b) THE PLANET won’t be surprised on Sept. 21 when the Parks Commission grants final OK. As for (a), no proof has been uncovered and no charges are being made. Be clear on that point. Regarding (b), as long as Best Friends of Springside Park keep the fight in-house, so to speak, they have no chance. The game is rigged.

The Besties only hope to save Springside from the wrecker’s bike lies in two areas. The first is some last-second revelation, an Act of God, if you will. The second is the law itself, meaning intervention of an outside agency with no dog in the fight, one that knows how wage not a battle of wits but a battle of writs.
As for God, he too stays away from Tyerville. As for the law, outside help is needed, because citizens fighting city hall in Tyerville have no chance, as we’ve seen throughout this production of the city’s officially sanctioned Bike Mafia, that tiny minority who have city officials under the coin of the realm. That sad reality exists because official Tyerville sees Mary Jane and Joe Kapanskis — the city’s ordinary, taxpaying citizens — as suckers at best, obstacles to be crushed at worst.
Every city agency that has touched this wretched project has fought against citizens. This includes the parks commission, Community Development (Ruffer and McGrath), conservation commission, the city council (by refusing a citizen’s petition for a public hearing), and the office of mayor (by a refusal to get involved).
Meanwhile a lazy local press has looked the other way … save THE PLANET. We alone have stood with the underdogs.
At every step of the way, the city has tried to ram the mountain-bike development through without public knowledge or input. The only reason it’s not already built is because the Besties have put up a fight for Springside that recalls our readings about several “last stands” of history: the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C., the Alamo in 1836, and Custer in 1876. Like the losers of those other hopeless causes, the Besties will die for honor with their boots on.

Defenders of the Bike Mafia point to the “many public meetings.” Truly? You could have public meetings every day, but what good are they when the very officials who should be putting the tough questions to the Mafia and Powder Horn take the advocates’ side?
A mountain biking source (shred trail . com) says 2.9% of the U.S. population goes mountain biking each year. That leaves 97.1% who don’t. The figures are even more unbalanced in Pittsfield, with its high percentage of elderly and fatsos. In truth, we’re talking about a project that will commandeer the core of Springside Park for the indulgence of less than 1% of the city’s eligible population.
After the Conservation Commission (emphasis on con) gave papal blessing, the “Friends of Springside Park” (deliberately named to confuse them with the Best Friends of Springside Park, the park’s allies), issued a declaration of support. Like all good little lap dogs, these Enemies of The People fetched slippers for The Suits.
THE PLANET shares a small portion of the “Friends” statement in italics, with the response of the Besties in bold. THE PLANET does this not only because we believe the Besties are on the side of truth but to have a clear conscience when official Pittsfield okays the destruction of its best natural space.

REFUTATION BY THE BESTIES: Nonsense! All of the lies have come from the mountain bikers and those they’ve misled, their enablers. Mountain biking is very environmentally, socially, and medically destructive, so it can only be promoted by lying. Knobby tires are perfectly designed to rip up the soil, accelerating erosion. one glance at a knobby mountain bike tire will tell you that. The presence of large, fast-moving machines on the trail drives away all other trail users. Every park that has permitted mountain biking has turned into a mountain biking-only park. Every week we hear of more horrendous injuries and deaths caused by mountain biking all over the world. This is not the “benign” or “passive” activity claimed by its proponents! Benign or passive activities don’t maim or kill people! This project doesn’t deserve approval or even a trial. Once built, it will be too late to restore the land to its natural state.
The prosed Bike Skills course at Springside:
-Will not involve any addition of bathrooms, lighting, bleachers or other additional construction
These amenities have been part of the proposal from the start, and have never been precluded.
-Will not impact (nor have any more impact on the park than) the adjacent playground
That is a very popular fallacy: “The area has already been messed up, so that makes it okay to mess it up some more”. That’s like saying that if I throw a baseball through one of your windows, it’s now okay to throw one through all your other windows, as well!
We have, from the start, not made grand sweeping accusations or false claims about any other user group. We have used this project as an opportunity to enhance our research and understanding of mountain biking and its interconnectedness with the environment (including both people and nature).
That is a blatant lie. The world expert on mountain biking impacts is Dr. Mike Vandeman, whose emails you have repeatedly blocked, because you don’t want to hear the truth. Doctor Vandeman has collected reports of over 1000 serious accidents and deaths caused by mountain biking. What’s “passive” about that? How many hikers have experienced broken bones, paralysis, or death?

On Thursday September 16, 2021 at approximately 2:17PM, members of the Pittsfield Police Department (PPD) and Pittsfield Fire Department (PFD) responded to 8 White Terrace for a structure fire. Firefighters were quickly able to extinguish the fire, though the building did suffer damage. No injuries were reported. As a result of the ensuing investigation, 43 year old Pittsfield resident Joseph Stone was taken into custody and charged with one count of arson. Stone is expected to be arraigned tomorrow, Friday September 17 at Pittsfield District Court.
It should also be noted that on Wednesday September 8, 2021 members of PPD and PFD responded to a major structure fire at 6 White Terrace. 6 White Terrace and 8 White Terrace are neighboring multi-family apartment buildings located next to one another on the same side of the street.
The investigation into both fires is being conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department, Pittsfield Fire Department, and Fire Marshalls assigned to the Massachusetts State Police. Anyone who witnessed these incidents or wishes to provide additional information is asked to contact the lead investigator, Detective James Losaw, at 413-448-9700 x572.
I believe a Joseph Stone torched the apartment building at Fenn and North many moons ago, claimed he was falsely accused, etc. did his time and of course was released. that was torn down after . No doubt just another of those Pissfield coincidences.
It was at the corner of Fenn & First St (where the Howard building parking lot is now located. I believe he’s also the little person who stands out holding a “homeless” sign but lives with his grandmother on Seymour St.

That’s how I remember that incident as well.
There is a traffic roundabout currently under construction at the intersection of Tyler and Woodlawn streets. What a stroke of luck that, a few years ago an apartment building which was right in the way of it, burned down suspiciously. What fortunate happenstance.
And that dump was demolished in less time than an investigation could have taken place.

Both MRS. PLANET and THE PLANET yesterday had business in Pittsfield. Without planning but learning afterward when we discussed our separate ordeals, we each deliberately avoided driving down North Street. Nonetheless, we were both struck by how much of a hassle it is to get anywhere from Point A to Point B without running into a million red lights and stop signs, many not needed; construction with no one directing traffic; erratic drivers; and the “denizens of the deep,” that motley collections of thugs, drugs, pugs, crazies, and lazies. It’s almost like being in a horror film. Couldn’t wait to get outta town!

I went too and only saw one bike rider. He was on the sidewalk headed the wrong way. What do you suppose is the number of people on bikes who have lost their drivers’ licenses? Not exactly people who are likely to follow the bike land rules.
Lost my drivers license years back, still did bikes as that was faster than B-bus.

I was on North St Sun and seen 2 bikes riding on the sidewalk.
Drove on Dynamic and Vibrant North Street twice today. Did not see anyone riding a bike, but I did count 6 Tyerville Cadillac’s (scooters) flying up and down the bike lane. Too bad those driving the Tyerville Cadillacs don’t know how to follow traffic rules.

One more reason the woke folk are bailing out of this foul smelling berg.
That building is a toxic waste dump. It used to be a car dealership with a bunch of maintenance bays. They just dumped the oil into the dirt ‘round back.
They also did some midnight PCB dumping on the property. It’s as toxic as it gets. Rumor has it there were a couple bodies stored out there in 55 gallon drums dating back to the fall of Berkshire Downs.

10:30 p.m. Thursday night. There was a vehicle crash and “multiple stabbing victims” in the 700 block of Tyler Street, according to the PPD. Suspect is Josh Lofink, 36, of the city. Responding Officers encountered 2 stabbing victims, and rendered medical aid with the assistance of bystanders, Pittsfield Fire Department, and County Ambulance. The victims were transported to Berkshire Medical Center with serious injuries, and are currently both in stable condition.

I remember reading McGrath saying something like, just because Powder Horn is designing the park, it doesn’t mean they can’t bid on the project. Also including, that’s what they do and we need someone who has experience in building one and there isn’t many who building them. Those lines lead me too believe that Powder Horn is and was the chosen one to build it. I might be wrong, but I believe his statement was cover for when it is announced that they will build it. The bidding process will be conveniently done through twists and turns to do so.

I had that council story in THE PLANET’s previous edition. Council vote was 7-3 (Maffuccio, Morandi, and Connell voting for a public hearing; everyone else noted no, with Kavey absent). City said the project would be put out to bid, then came the old switcheroo. As for evidence, there’s no evidence for something that doesn’t happen, only empty promises of the kind official Pittsfield likes to make.

I would love some independent person to gather up about local 100 12th graders and ask them how many city councilors there are in Pittsfield and how many wards. A new report has determined the Pfizer vaccine may cause Alzheimer’s and other conditions
ABSTRACT
Development of new vaccine technology has been plagued with problems in the past. The current RNA based SARS-CoV-2 vaccines were approved in the US using an emergency order without extensive long term safety testing. In this paper the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine was evaluated for the potential to induce prion-based disease in vaccine recipients. The RNA sequence of the vaccine as well as the spike protein target interaction were analyzed for the potential to convert intracellular RNA binding proteins TAR DNA binding protein (TDP-43) and Fused in Sarcoma (FUS) into their pathologic prion conformations. The results indicate that the vaccine RNA has specific sequences that may induce TDP-43 and FUS to fold into their pathologic prion confirmations.

Indeed, less than 1% of Pittsfield residents use bicycles. We are not China or Denmark.
I have a Commercial driver license Class A.
City eliminated 2 lines traffic; replaced it by just 1 line for cars –left line and 1 line for bicycles–right line. So, currently cars running in left line on North Street make a right turn from LEFT line–which is PROHIBITED by Fed and Mass State traffic Laws.
Moreover, commercial cars delivering stuff still parked in right line–blocking bicycles since NOTHING else they can do, making bicycles overrunning into right line where cars run. Parking also crosses bike lines–all unsafe and illegal.
But City can’t ban commercial deliveries into Downtown or parking –complete mess done
under School Secretary Linda M. Tyer.
