Our AEWS alerts us of incoming bogies. With the help of our sources, network of spies, and Z-Agents, we shoot them down. Consequently, the guilty get a break this week.
We haven’t forgotten our most treasured asset, referring to you, THE PLANET‘s loyal readers. On behalf of this ever-growing assemblage, whose unprecedented growth is evidenced by the unanticipated ease we have attracting national advertisers to this board eager to buy space, we shall keep The Comment Line open all week for you to have your say.
Free speech must stand as our most important safeguard of free institutions, and you know, THE PLANET might be the only true, really free member of the press, certainly in Berkshire County. We remain unbought, unbossed, independent, solvent, and beyond the reach of the usual safeguards and pressures that The Suits and Special Interests apply with great relish on other media and press so as to keep their game of Three-Card Monty going.

The Akron Ohio police chief that is not standing by his cops should be fired, not the cops who put it all on the line.

I think so. Doesn’t change the basic facts that called for use of deadly force. When you have a bunch of cops open fire on a fleeing felon who has used or threaten use of deadly force, 67 shots can be totally reasonable. You shoot to stop the threat, and if say 6 cops react at the same time, this can happen.

I am very disappointed with Pittfield Television coverage of our parade. What’s with this constant interruption with the same commercials? We are missing much of the parade.
Think of it this way? You were safer at home. Quite frankly the announcers were amateurish and this political farce for a parade should have marched to the summer street gym for a membership.

No need for that yet. We do have Plan B and C if it continues. It will cost the intruder plenty, trust me. In building up our security, we have fully check out our legal recourses with respect to commentators and posters who break the rules, spelled out at the end of every column, in all that legal jargon, which is the very last thing we post. It’s a default notice, but it comes with teeth. THE PLANET has had to use it one time. We settled out of court, and the offender got hit in the wallet pretty bad (or good from our standpoint). Comments that are sent (even those not published) come with an ID tag that enables us to track down the source. I won’t get into the details, but that’s how it works these days for the internet, especially when you run a board such as this one with a lot of traffic. I NEVER use the trace back, unless it becomes necessary for the security of this site and our readers. We have used it once, in the case I mentioned above. Our efforts in running a clean site contrast with all other local media, who, rather than keep the “free speech/free marketplace of idea” open vie THEIR comment lines, simply pulled the plug. Can’t blame them. They, being commercial, mainstream sites, are running on thin margins and have decided on a cost/benefit basis that free speech isn’t worth the price. Sad but true. That’s how, why, and where THE PLANET stands alone, and it helps explain why we have grown so much (and also why the other local online reports are barely keeping their numbers even).

The latest college football news about conference realignments is damn near repugnant. Two west coast schools, Southern Cal and UCLA will join the Big Ten football schedule .as football schools. For a number of years, the Big Ten has been nothing but a misnomer because of its increase of additional schools to its football schedule. This is nothing more than using young jock’s football skills to increase school dollars and administrator salaries. The administrators of these schools should be ashamed of themselves. PITTSFIELD — A man who was at the center of a large wiretap investigation into drug trafficking in the Berkshires is facing more than three years in prison as part of a plea deal.
Raekwan Jackson, of Springfield, has admitted to trafficking cocaine and heroin and conspiracy to violate drug laws. As part of an agreement with the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, he pleaded guilty in Berkshire Superior Court on Thursday to a reduced charge of trafficking between 18 and 36 grams of heroin.
Jackson was initially charged with trafficking over 200 grams of heroin, a charge that carries a sentence of at least 12 years in prison. The lesser charge carries a maximum sentence of at least 3 1/2 years in prison.
He was ordered to reside with his sister in Springfield until his sentencing hearing scheduled for Sept. 29.

Pittsfield – A Springfield man pleaded guilty this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court to drug charges. 22-year-old RAEKWAN JACKSON appeared before Judge Daniel Ford.
JACKSON pleaded guilty to one (1) count of POSSESSION OF HEROIN, one (1) count of POSSESSION OF COCAINE WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE and one (1) count UNLICENSED OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE. Judge Ford ordered that he serve probation for 6 months on the drug charges. The charge of UNLICENSED OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE was placed on file.
When RAEKWAN JACKSON was ARRESTED on DRUG CHARGES back in March 2018 he was released on personal recognizance.

I think that speaks volumes.
Tim Shugrue has raised almost as much money as the Pittsfield Parade. That said, dollars don’t vote. That said, I don’t know a single person willing to admit they support Harrington.
She was booed at the parade multiple times. No wonder why she’s not campaigning. Other than the south county and Williamstown snobs, everyone HATES HARRINGTON. It’s not solely because of her progressive political bullshit, but rather because she is totally incompetent. She’s now lost TWO murder cases, plead out dangerous gun felons to probation, and made stupid decisions which have lead to sexual and physical assault cases being dumped and victims unprotected.

Regarding the recent article from Wrong Way Andrea’s office that they are almost ready to make their decision on the shooting of Miggy. A few thoughts came to mind. First, why is this investigation taking so long? Secondly, who is being threatened or bought out on this decision? And last, since so far Wrong Way Andrea seems to not be campaigning for another term, I am willing to bet that she is going to announce that the PPD and Officer Sondrini is at fault. How convenient for her! In her WOKE demented mind, this is the decision that will get her the votes she needs to get re-elected. Through her term she has done absolutely nothing to protect the residents of Berkshire County. If a criminal is a person of color she plea bargains them. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Chicopee facility. It appears that this is not truly an issue, except for campaign purposes. It doesn’t appear to be a winning issue for Alf. Better for him would be budget ($21 million), tenure (12 years is long enough), and prisoner services (could they be better? On the trail, he doesn’t ask this in the form of a question but as an assertion). Today, sorry to say, you win campaigns in competitive races by trying to put your opponent on the defensive with relentless attack. Your own ideas matter, but not as much. Letter: DA Harrington is grandstanding again
To the editor: Since being elected Berkshire district attorney in 2018, Andrea Harrington repeatedly has shown herself unworthy of the office.
For example, when Judge John Agostini recently dismissed the DA’s Office’s appalling indictments of two foster parents for the tragic death of an infant in their care, he rebuked the district attorney: “This is not the standard of conduct the court expects from the Commonwealth in grand jury proceedings.”
Last week, Ms. Harrington once again acted in a way that warrants rebuke. Following the Supreme Court’s decision overruling Roe v. Wade, she announced, “As an elected DA, I will never use the power of the state to criminalize private healthcare decisions.” Her announcement is misleading. District attorneys don’t “criminalize” abortion or anything else — legislatures do.
In Massachusetts, the right to an abortion is contained in Massachusetts General Law chapter 12, which includes the “Roe Act” enacted on Dec. 29, 2020. Within an hour of the Supreme Court decision overruling Roe, Gov. Charlie Baker issued an executive order to “protect reproductive health care providers who serve out-of-state residents.” Ms. Harrington knows, or should know, this. Ms. Harrington’s assurance that “my office will never criminalize abortion” is an election-year grandstand play to appeal to progressives and others who disagree with overruling Roe.
I’m a progressive, I disagree with overruling Roe — and I’m offended by Ms. Harrington’s cynical ploy. Ms. Harrington’s false bravado is worse than misleading — it is potentially harmful. It may lead some to believe — wrongly — that such a threat presently exists in Massachusetts and that they need Andrea Harrington as district attorney to protect them. It doesn’t, and they don’t.
I decided long ago that I would not vote for Ms. Harrington in the Democratic primary on Sept. 6. I’m delighted to have gotten to know Tim Shugrue, her opponent, and am heartily supporting him. Tim is an experienced trial lawyer who has tried and won hundreds of cases as a prosecutor and as a defense lawyer. (Ms. Harrington has not.) He knows how to implement progressive policies that will make the criminal justice system work for all while also protecting the community by vigorously prosecuting crime as appropriate. (Ms. Harrington does not.) I urge you to vote for Tim on Sept. 6.
