THREE PHOTOS: THE “NOW” THAT ONCE WAS AND IS TO NEVER BE AGAIN, BUT EVEN THEN …

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE WEDNESDAY Sept. 28, 2022) — Today, THE PLANET presents three photographs.

Here’s the first. Photos two and three appear at and as the finis to this column

The translucent squares, somewhere on North Street, but where?

Let us begin with the reason for posting them.

What the cause here? Only THE PLANET can answer.

The cause is the past. Memory, that wistful region where experience has fossilized into bedrock upon which we build our personal lives.

Novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote one of the most memorable endings in literature when he concluded The Great Gatsby thus:

“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”

We always live in the present moment, that entity that occupies the ungraspable “blip” between past and future. A photo pictures a once-was “now,” allowing a chance to reflect on it.

FIRST PHOTO

A slice of Pittsfield pavement that as a kid I traversed hundreds of times. But where? My instincts place it at the Pop Corner at the intersection of East and North streets, where my mom did the family’s banking and also where we would board the bus to take us home. She’d always let me pull the “stop” buzzer.

What was the function of such pavement? Why the windowed squares? Did they serve to admit light to the bank’s basement? Does anybody know?

These glass pavements were around in the 50s , early 60s and well before. I don’t recall the glass being that fractured, so my guess is that this picture was taken in the late 60s — 1967 in my mind, Summer of Peace and Love, a Red Sox championship, urban riots, and sophomore year at at PHS after 9th grade at St. Joe’s. K through 9 of Catholic education, the first eight at Mt. Carmel School on Fenn Street. Public school came as a shock.

SECOND PHOTO

Once upon a time, long ago in a distant universe, Pittsfield had a thriving drum-corps subculture. This LP album features a recording of a corps called The Monarchs. Other names THE PLANET remembers: The Cavaliers, The Imperials, The Kingsmen. Any others?

Drum corps wasn’t part of my past, although I used to enjoy being in the drill team at the CYC during winter. We remember a 1962 sleepover at buddy Mario Panetti’s house. In the early evening, he had rehearsal with the Cavaliers at the Boy’s Club. We can still get chills recalling the power of “Has Anybody Seen my Gal?” echoing in the gym.

A highlight of our family summer was the drum-corps competition at Wahconah Park. We would picnic at the park with my aunts, uncles, and cousins and make the day of it. One of the favorite black-and-whites in the family album is little Dan Valenti proudly marching with cousin David. We are marching to our own music. The day is sunny and warm, recollected decades later in the mind of a man who hasn’t forgotten what “4” feels like.

THIRD PHOTO

Fenway Park. Ted Williams in left in front of the Gray Monster, at the ready. Yes. The Monstah was once slate green-gray, shades darker than the battleships that won the war but lighter than charcoal prior to its future as spent ash.

The scoreboard tells the story of the game, Sox leading the A’s 4-3. 1954. With the information on the scoreboard, THE PLANET could determine not just the day this game was played but at what time the photo was taken.

Why bother, though? That specific “now” long since passed, merged into the ocean of timelessness, the “having once been and never to be again.”

Three-score and two years ago today, The Kid played his last game, hitting a home run in his final at bat.

Implausible.

———- ooo ———-

The boat moves backward against the current, but …

It’s not the past that matters but the fact that we’re in the vessel.

Currents change. We remain.

Here.

Now.

—————————————————————————————-

Now that I think about it, why DID kamikaze pilots wear helmets?” — Hideki Hockaloogie.

“OPEN THE WINDOW, AUNT MILLIE.”

LOVE TO ALL.

Picture one does look very familiar but not sure if I recall it from Pittsfield. I’ll be up all night trying to remember where I’ve seen it.

I remember some great drum corps competitions, especially the Kingsmen group. The parade committee has run some great corps shows over the last 10 years. Not as large as in days gone by, but very enjoyable and the crowds were on their feet cheering and clapping. Wish that music would make a comeback.

I think I will change my legal name from Fred Fritzstone to Hideki Hockaloogie. Is he a philosophical friend of yours lol?

What is wrong with this picture? Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski will soon be paying hundreds of dollars more per month than last year to heat their home this upcoming winter, while the Swamp is always sending tens of billions of dollars in so-called aid to Ukraine that really goes into the pockets of the military industrial complex and other special interests.

You voted for Biden, John. Having buyers remorse, yet?

He shut down US Energy companies first week in office, and heating oil has doubled in price (food and gasoline too).

Pudding brain and his handlers, are also the ones giving away the US Citizens tax money to his crooked friends in Ukraine, without any oversight.

Traitor Joseph Stolen is a certified racist and was a good friend of Exalted Cyclops Robert Byrd of the KKK. He gave a eulogy at Byrd’s funeral: saying he was “one of my mentors” and that “the Senate is a lesser place for his going.”

Some more gems from Joe:

on Obama, “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean.

“You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.”

forced busing to desegregate schools would cause his children to “grow up in a racial jungle.”

Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.

We could add more racist rants, and the incoherent non-sensical mumblings…….but I won’t fill up Dan’s whole blog with more “Bidenisms”.

Really TSC? Did you forget who was Prez during the “Beer Summit?” Or what Prez made a statement like, “If I had a son, he’d look like…..?”

Those two events began the race war and the war on police.

It culminated with the BLM’s (Buy Large Mansions) 2020 Summer of Love. Remember all those “peaceful protests” TSC? Guess what parties cities led the country in buildings being burned to the ground?

What party is in control of the nation’s most violent cities? Cities like: NYC, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, Baltimore, San Francisco, and DC.

What party is in control of the nations largest cities who have the largest “housless” population? Cities like, NYC, San Francisco, Phoenix, LA, Chicago, Baltimore, San Diego, and Pittsfield.

But white supremacy and global warming are our biggest threats, huh?

This is outrageous. Boot these far left radicals out in November. Even if you’re a hardcore Democrat, you can always go back to Democrat voting once the radicals are removed from office.

Those lights are located at 346 north street. They have been there for at least 40 years. When I was a kid, my parents would go to the “China Clipper” restaurant located there, and when you left the restaurant out the front door, walked to the right, and then another right walking back to the parking lot – those lights were right there on the ground. They looked great all lit up.

Thanks for answering Fat Albert I passed by them a couple weeks ago going to Jean’s ( Nifty ) Cleaner’s. At the parking lot of the Berkshire Bowl I was watching the Imperials practicing and an instructor yelled at me to come over and he reached into the truck of his car and pulled out a bugle and told me to blow into till a sound came out and to come back the next week. The bugle was brass and they switched over to chrome. I asked my Mom years later why I never got one and she said because I sucked. Good times for sure.

Charles Kronick did his homework before the council meeting. The mayor skirted over your question Charles. Thank you for voting “no.”
Ward 4 councilor is useless and should be voted off or recalled.
Instead of using ARPA money to build a new homeless shelter, how about using part of the funds to rehab & staff St. Joe’s for the winter months. Pittsfield should not be attracting the layabout crowd.

Mr Kronick could prospose a petition asking for blood donations to save children and this mayor and council would attack him for it before voting it down.

These councilors, like little toddlers, look to the mayor for approval when they do her nasty work. Good Boy Sherman! Good Boy Persip! You each get an extra oreo cookie….I am always fascinated when I see grown men and woman politicians grovel before their superiors. Gives me a yucky feeling.

But I very much admire truth to power. It used to be much more common before the wussies slithered in…..

Persip and the usuals are condescending Jack Wagon’s who tried to make it sound as though CK was degrading the homeless for being homeless and having no compassion. In fact CK is trying to speed up the process of doing something to help. Notice how fast they jumped on Kavey’s petition to get an update on what’s being done and has been done so far about the issue.

You would think they would already know what was being done, if anything. Does the mayor communicate with any of them outside of the umbilical Petes?

Several councilors actually took up seats on the council that could have been given to people would actually do the job they were elected for. That is sad for the people of Pittsfield and sad for the city of Pittsfield. Does anyone remember the Berkshire Eagle or iberkshries calling out this mayor or any of the other councilors for ANYTHING in the last six years? Has our mayor been so perfect that nothing she has done needs being questioned? In some faraway places the media is a front and center check and balance on local politics.

Pretty weak that they requested an update which they already know what it will be because they are all talking behind the scenes about it and want to be on the same page about it. And no I can’t remember when any of the media you mentioned called out the mayor or council for their lack of leadership on any given issue that may reflect badly on them.

C’mon man!! Pittsfield has such better highlights today. Walk down North and see the Barnum and Bailey Freak Show apprentices. We get to watch it for free, Then head to Springside where you can watch environmental destruction in all phases including human feces on the ground. Circle around Rumpass Ricky’s turnabout and you can see the poison seeping towards the elementary school while the deer watch. You can then end at the so called industrial park of Pittsfield with all the business running their cylinders on high,,,,oops those are the junkies that are high and just crashed there,

But please, for your safety, only take this “vibrant and dynamic” tour during daylight hours.

Keep in mind, after dark only the drug zombies, houseless, armed felons, and Dirty Barry Tyer, come out. Pittsfield is way to dangerous for the average Kapanski.

Dirty Barry suspended all Cumby’s “walk-along” shifts with him, because of the pandemic. We are all hoping Dirty Barry brings this community policing program back with all the violence occurring under his wife, Flat Tyer’s watch.

Someone intentionally blew up the Russian gas pipeline to Europe. This means energy costs will skyrocket even more for everyone. Why would Russia blow up their own pipeline? This hurts them. Our globalist media is trying to put the blame on Russia, but it sounds more like the globalists did this to further weaken the world just as they did with the pandemic.

Tyer is one of the worst mayors of all time. Never have we experienced such incompetence and insolence in the corner office as we do today with Linda Tyer. She forgets that her job is to keep the public informed about every penny she spends and what is spent, for we see our arpa money going to individuals and sums which are totally outrageous. One recipient received $1.2 million and we the general public do not know where that money went.

Tyer should resign immediately for lack of performing her fiduciary responsibility for the taxpayers of the City of Pittsfield. This outright arrogance must be halted by voting Tyer out of office the next time she tries to run again. All taxpayers must reunite and send Tyer packing.

The City Council has eight boot licking individuals who will not send Tyer her walking papers for this reason. We must all make it to the ballot box to rid ourselves of these eight councilors and the incompetent Mayor Linda Tyer. Hess Still Stands !!!!

When the time is right the city of Pittsfield will all of a sudden, take over the Hess property. It will then sell it, for one dollar, to one of the local builder friends who will put up a small condo building, (like the one at the old civil defense building nearby). They will get tax breaks and their building permits will sail through like the wind.
And so it is written and so it shall be.

That day is coming. There are only so many millionaires the 87,000 new IRS agents can audit.

A trip to Africa and “consulting fees” to “consult” and help bring a black dance troupe to a black business function would definitely qualify as fraud in my book.

What in gods name could Shirley and Warren add (consult) to a dance troupe?

“When the music starts to play, start dancing,” states veteran BBEC consultant Warren Dews. Dews and Shirley will next “consult” for the Pittsfield Suns. Dews stated, “We are going to make $25,000 consulting for the Pittsfield Suns. I’ll tell the pitcher, when the umpire yells ‘play ball,’ you pitch to the batter.”

To follow up on these posts, in fairness to the Berkshire Black Economic Council, I went ahead and checked their calendar to see what business events or business trainings Shirley, Warren and the Enchills, plan on putting on:

No BBEC business events planned until at least March of 2023.

$750,000 ARPA money for a black cultural event in July in South County. Followed up by a black dance troupe in August, also in South County, that Warren and Shirley “consulted” on. Not to mention the BBEC was notably absent from the recent small business event in Dalton.

See for yourself. Other than Shakespeare and Co events and NAACP meetings, zero, zilch, squat, from the BBEC.

Exactly 100 years ago this fall, dictator Benito Mussolini, as the leader of Italy’s National Fascist Party, staged his historic March on Rome. He eventually marched the country straight into two decades of dictatorship and, alongside Adolf Hitler, into World War II.

Yes, fascinating history. It is interesting that Mussolini had a shot at being a historical hero but he blew it. Late 30’s he brokered a satisfying peace of all European nations at the time Germany was beginning to expand. If he had retired then, as his wife wanted, he’d be a hero today. Instead, he threw in with the expansionist Fuhrer and you know the rest of the story.

Flush Morales, twice, to the bottom of 901 Holmes Rd. His retirement benefits will be in Woods Pond.

Ron Disantis, governor of Florida, is channeling Trump and is begging for money from the common folk for the hurricane. His state should pay for it along with FEMA funds. Is he gonna sock a little away for his own self? UH HUH…you know he is. Learned from the best, his buddy down the road at Mara Largo.

(so far he is not chucking cheap paper towels into the audience) but it is early yet

How much US taxpayer loot, has pudding head Biden funneled to his crook friends in the Ukraine , so far? There is no oversight, and for US citizens it’s like flushing their money down a dishonest dirty toilet.

Is he/Biden (aka “the BIG GUY”) still getting the 10% kickback? Or is it 15-20% now due to the failing US dollar?

Somebody he just gave a big sendoff to only a few days previously. Biden seems drugged at times too. His puppet masters are doing a bad job of keeping him coherent. He was also going on about France being fascist because of the new pro-family and pro-freedom new leader in that country. Fascism for the far left means people who love freedom, family, and keeping government out of your business.

Biden seems drugged so often. What is going on with this president? He is literally calling for the dead.

A good question would be…..what is the State’s responsibility for this problem?

Seeing the State of mASSachusetts, dumped hundreds of vagrant derelicts here as part of “the scamdemic” response, and have abandoned them to roam, forage, beg, pillage, plunder, poop, panhandle, pizz, squat,………

Maybe ship them back to their home ranges in the Eastern part of the state where winters are “kinder and gentler”……and the Liberals are all “inclusive and woke”, except for Martha’s Vineyard…..
