CAMPAIGN NOTES & REFLECTIONS OF THE MAYORAL KIND: MARCHETTI v. KROL … plus … JUST WHO IS SIR CHARLES?

BY DAN VALENTI

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY JAN. 30, 2013) — Over the past two weeks, THE PLANET spent time with presumed mayoral candidates Peter Marchetti and John Krol. We met each over coffee, and each meeting went a couple hours. The specifics of the conversations — each of which went into detail and depth and sometimes touching on the personal — shall be between and among the three of us, as THE PLANET met with them off the record.

THE PLANET‘s purpose? To get initial thoughts on how each is approaching what promises to be one of the most interesting and important municipal elections in recent memory. Both Krol and Marchetti are already tackling the foundational work which, for a serious candidate intent on making an actual as opposed to a symbolic run for office, involves countless details — constructing an organization, taking care of paperwork, working the phones for money, state filings, and much more.

———- ooo ———-

This election presents something different in that both men come from roughly the same coaching tree. Since 1989, when Angelo Stracuzzi took on Anne Wojtkowski, mayoral elections have taken the form of Machine v. Machine, Hatfield-McCoy: Del Gallo-Wojtkowski, Ruberto-Bianchi. This time, if November comes down to Krol vs. Marchetti, we will have Hatfield v. Hatfield — civil war, one that has the potential not to be so civil.

Both Krol and Marchetti share several similarities:

  • Both come from the Del Gallo-Ruberto line.
  • Both have name recognition. Both have been “players.”
  • Both have  core followers.
  • Both have experience in fundraising and organizing.
  • In the past, they have been on the same side in many a fight and on most issues.
  • Each comes with a series of recommendations and some pounds of baggage.

The campaign, therefore, will be one in which both will have to demonstrate that there will be not just a difference but also a distinction between them. One might argue that the bulk of this burden will fall on Krol, simply because he has severed his loyalties to the Clairmont-Tyer bloc. Marchetti has not.

This is why THE PLANET expects to see a much different man than we saw in his initial turn in government, first in Mayor Jim Ruberto’s office and second as Ward 6 representative.

This leads to the issue of pressure. Who will be under the most? How will they handle it.

The pressure on Marchetti is that he lost the first time around when he ran for mayor, a race many thought he should have won. Dan Bianchi eked out a narrow win. Consensus was that Marchetti didn’t have the “it” factor to go all the way (spine, intestinal fortitude) and ran more not to lose as opposed to running to win. His pressure will be that he doesn’t go down a second time. Richard Nixon aside, the tag of “loser” is a hard one to shake.

Krol needs to redefine himself, almost completely. He is perceived as being one of The Suits, a pretty boy and showpiece, part of the good-old-boys’ network. And who want to lay odds that the photo of sitting in those big, plush, Beacon recliners alongside Tyer doesn’t surface during the campaign. It was Krol’s Mike Dukakis-In-A- Tank moment.

Equity in pressure stems from the perception of both fine fellows. This is expressed by a comment from Fizzlehead: “But using the case of a mayoral race involving Marchetti and Krol, your choice is two special interest candidates so you lose either way.” Which one, Krol or Marchetti, will be best able to shake this rep?

========== ooo ==========

Speaking of Tyer, THE PLANET was first to report she’s not running again. The mayor has not made any official statement. We stick by our assessment and of late have only received more reason to believe so. She comes with several questions: When will she announce she’s out — or will she? Will she leave would-be candidates twisting in the wind? What effect will she have on Marchetti? Will their close association help or hurt Pete? Will she get involved in the campaign or continue her disappearing act?

Tyer is where we are seeing the first major difference. Marchetti judges Tyer to have done a “great job” in her time as mayor. Krol has an opposite view, saying Tyer has wasted an opportunity and turned in a disgraceful performance.

THE PLANET sees Tyer as kryptonite. Anyone who wants to win the corner office would be better off as Lex Luthor than Superman.

Frozen food for thought.

———– ooo ———-

And while we’re not at it, when WAS the last time you saw the Howling Man (from the classic Twilight Zone episode), Peter O’Toole, and Ward 2 city councilor Charles Kronick together in the same room at the same time? THE PLANET thinks something may be afoot, and we would recommend that the council form a special subcommittee to investigate, cochaired by Dina Lampiasi and Patrick Kavey.

Peter O’Toole

Top to Botton: The Howling Man, Peter O’Toole, and Charles Kronick. Are they one and the same. If so, how much trouble are we in?

Predictable Pittsfield politics will see Peter Marchetti and John Krol run for Mayor in 2023. Mayor Linda Tyer will retire with a 6-figure public pension plus perks and live a nice life with her multimillionaire CPA third husband Barry Clairmont. I predict that John Krol will win the election over Peter Marchetti because voters want to move beyond the “Business as usual” tagline that illustrates the past 40 years of failed municipal government in Pittsfield. The forecasted recession will also pay a big part in the campaign for Mayor. Lastly, I like that Ward 2 City Councilor Charles Ivar Kronick “Gives ’em Hell”!

You say Marchettia has not served his loyalty’s to the Tyer/Clairmont bloc. But then you ask if Marchettis close association with tyer will hurt him. Er?

It sure seems to me that he has been her baby boy and has gone out of his way to please her highness, sadly at the expense of the electorate he fooled. As council president he is supposed to be the number one advocate for the people who elected him. Not joining the mayor in working for the special interests. I am still looking for the first iota of evidence he has done so. He is toast before the game begins. He has a highly visible L on his forehead.

Krol on the other hand does not offer a shred of evidence he will be any different. Of course he will campaign on change like every other failed mayor before him. Can we please go over some of the promises tyer made? How many IF ANY of her fantasy promises came true? She is like the spider who beckoned the fly into her nest and then ate it. Then puked it up and ate it again her second term. I expect Krol to make similar promises with similar results if he is elected.

If Marchetti wants the Kapanski and Planeteers vote he will have to start distancing himself from the tax and spend policies of the current missing in action mayor. He should start submitting petitions and leading from his chair so the people could see if he would be different or just a “lite” version of the missing in action. Will he eliminate the DIE dept and make Human Resources do their job. Will they stop the rent for the permit dept and bring them back to city hall to save money? Will he lop off the waste in the school department? Will he work to lower the debt of the city? Will he pursue accountability starting with Rumpass???? These are some questions that Marchetti needs to address before he could be considered a mayoral candidate for the people, right now he is considered a boy doing another’s bidding

It is too late for Marchetti.. He has been many years doing a horrible job and no one, NO ONE, is going to believe he is going to be anything less than he has been. And if they did they would get Tyer all over again except with a dick..He had more than enough chance to prove himself but chose not to. I would not believe a word of of his campaigning mouth.

Maybe he is running as a dummy candidate and will be voting for Krol himself. That sounds like something the gosibs would pull in an effort to pull the wool over the voters eyes. They might figure it would help discourage a real person from joining the race.

I could not have said that better myself Sir Chaz.

One of the many parts of the city getting federal funding is being in compliance with hiring practices and laws. Pittsfield’s Personnel Department has been doing a fine job of this.

Other than former Pittsfield cop Walter Powell, I can’t come up with one other case of racial discrimination by the city. Walt’s case was strictly tied to the police department and not the city’s hiring practices. That took place in the early 1990’s.

Instead of trying to brain wash heterosexual, white, city employees, about how racist they are, how about OB and the DIE Office try to get a handle on all the gun violence by the young POC’s, by reaching out to them? The young gang bangers and drug dealers.

Shirley and Dennis sure can’t reach them as evident by the lackluster turnout this past weekend. Even with an all-expense paid trip to Africa didn’t seem to work.

Words to the effect, ‘Wouldn’t be prudent’ she and Kerwood said. Sounded a lot like George Bush. who couldn’t navigate a grocery checkout lane.

What would be prudent would be a forensic audit although the term must generate heart palpitations when spoken in her or Kerwoods presence.
I would suggest asking each candiate how they feel about such an audit but I would probably puke listening to the dodge and spin why they are against it.

Dan you never denied being Krol’s official or nonofficial consultant. Both Krol & Marchetti would continue running the city into the ground as Tyer has done. Both supported Tyer as well as Harrington. Both are liberal progressive Democrats. Marchetti at least has held a steady job in the financial world and possesses strong leadership skills while Krol fits the “can’t hold a job in the private sector so I’ll run for a political seat” mantra. The city is doomed if these are the only choices for mayor.

Questions for any candidates: who in city hall will be let go? Why do you support or not support a bike lane vote? Plans for the water plants? Future of ARPA slush fund? Valenti will ask these questions and more. Will the buffoon boys participate in a series of valenti forums?

The best thing he could do is take Dan’s advice to run for ward councilor. But then again he doesn’t take advice.

No, and he’s been on here under numerous names trying to gain traction for ARPA money on the water plant.

That would be a noble idea, he fails to realize that ship sailed. We are trying to reign in the ARPA money from race hustlers, kickbacks to the mayor and her accountant wife, star chamber-like groups who control the city coffers/ARPA money, just to name a few who have their grubby hands in the money jar.

Trust me G. If you somehow get elected, the remaining ARPA money will be a thing of the past. The mayor and the above-mentioned leeches will bleed it dry prior to her departure.

I would have some questions first.

1) Name your ‘third rails.’
2) Is it possible to make a career of opportunism (such as securing your political office by green lighting corrupt activity) and then learn to be an executive and aspire to undo the damage that you have permitted?

Global question: can a corrupt government ever be a well-run?

Test Topic:

Both voted for the Electro-Mag buyout in 2019. EMA came to Pittsfield with empty tanks and running on fumes. We agreed to pay their SBA debts and secure capital purchases of no established value.

EMA made the emotional argument, “Give us money or we won’t set up here.” The approval was determined by whether the councilor believed the threat was

1) not a bluff (or)
2) EMA really was a legitimate business, and the bluff was irrelevant (or)
3) special interests demanded approval and the request was non-debatable.

Question: How will/would the candidates vote on the Electro-Mag request for another quarter million dollars? That would bring their GE haul up to $400,000.

Yes or no?

That outfit that took up residence in the Clock Tower got something like 30 million dollars in tax credit from Pittsfield and the state. And now they are bailing without a scratch on themselves. Only in Pittsfield can you come in, set up a business then fail and leave, and walk away smiling. It is called the Stanley effect.

Yes so true – why does Mayor Tyer want to continue to shovel money into EMA when they are turning a profit? Why can’t they buy their own equipment like every other private business in Pittsfield? The city has a very dismal record of providing cash incentives to entice economic development – if you can call it that! Think Nuclea and Pat Muraca!

And thank you Councilor Kronick for pointing out that BOTH mayoral candidates voted to give EMA money!

Yes they did. They had my argument to consider at the time. I pointed out that they intended to purchase a radio-isotype for which they had no certification to obtain nor store. Their assets belonged to a Bushey Bank in a foreign bank (not mass.), their bus plan was 90% marketing puffery. Only three councilors got back to me with questions; none are sitting today.

CC: Your point about the alleged profit raises two questions.

1) If real (7 million cash revenues), why not get a loan if cash flow doesn’t support the immediate payoff?
2) If EMA can’t get loan and purchasing is prohibitive – then why do they dump more money into the business? That’s time to fold or change horses.

For reference, my company purchased a similarly priced equipment, paid by loan. We do not have 7 million ann. revenues. We did not ask for taxpayers help either.

Now CVS and Walmart are cutting pharmacy hours due to not having enough help. This means more inconvenience for customers with longer wait times and not being able to get your medicine when you need it. Get used to it. This is only the beginning of pushing our country into a Third World country. When people don’t want to work, everybody is going to suffer. This has nothing to do with automation, this is not having people to do the job….this is the America of the far left globalists.

Unfortunately this board is where Sir Charles gets the most support and admiration. Outside of this page, it’s a different story. He means well and cares about the taxpayers or so he rants about in each of his speeches, but he de rails himself and half the time doesn’t know what motion is being made or needs to be made . He is not effective. point blank. We need to stop blowing him hot air. he needs to learn communication skills. It’s sad to see him get hammered by the rest of the council. Just my two cents. He needs communication coaching and a bottle of head and shoulders wouldn’t hurt. The piles of dandruff is distracting.

Some of us have a fondness for integrity and a commitment to an oath of office. You have at least seven councilors whose main goal seems to be to take oxygen out of the air and not much else. But they never ran for the office of council person to do anything related to the oath of office anyway. They did it to grease the wheels on the grift wagon.
They know who they are. And so do we. You can watch their aging faces contort and their asses squirm on their seat cushions whenever they are confronted with a challenging petition from Charles or anyone else. They did not sign up for this debate stuff. They were told it would be easy if they just voted as instructed. And so they do.

It is clear to me that Mr. Valenti’s getting some side graft, and would say it’s probably coming from Krol Camp or a former or current mayor. Or maybe Krol and Marchetti and Tyer are all in on it and Dan’s gonna be the go between.

So once again the mayor (and Pete) think it is a good idea to send out the city census without postage on their provided return envelope. With all the millions these guys toss about this seems rather ignorant way to save money. I guarantee at least ten percent of people will not bother sending it back if they have to hunt down a stamp. It suggests that having a full and accurate census is not a priority. And truth be told, having accurate numbers probably does not change the way these people do business as they will use whatever numbers are convenient for them anyway.

Just seems wrong headed to me.

Not passing in your census can remove a person from the active voter list which means you will need to show ID when you go to vote, and if you fail to vote in 2 elections in a row, you will be prevented from voting at all, until you fill out the census and reapply to vote. I agree, they could give us a stamped return envelope, but you can also drop them off in a bin in the library. Since Pittsfield and other liberal areas are so desperate for voters, I wonder if they apply these restrictions on voting if someone doesn’t turn in their census. After all, we have open borders in order to get more voters.

So why did the Pittsfield Police allow the NAACP Sunday protest to close down a lane of traffic around Park Square? Why weren’t they confined to the safety of the Park Square sidewalks? Why are the protest leaders demanding special housing & jobs? One of the protestors was holding a “Dismantle White Supremacy” sign – when the most recent killing of a black man was committed by black police officers? And why is the mayor’s assistant Roberta Dews whining about defunding the police? Maybe she should be fired for working against the safety of her own community, the community that pays her salary.

The housing and jobs aren’t going to stop the black on black crimes such as shootings, drug dealing etc..being committed that they hardly protest or want to talk about. I find it interesting people are saying it can be racism with what those five or so black cops did to that black man, yet there is no mention of racism when another black person hurts another black person who happens not to wear a uniform.

Das righ man. Use can give them 100 grand per year job, just to show up and play on Obama phone, 8-4, Monday through Friday, and most of these punks wouldn’t make it a month. They don’t want a job. They want handouts, it’s a systemic failure of inner city blacks, caused by their own culture that disrespects life, hard work, and family. It’s all about drugs, guns, hoes and bitches. You feel what I’m sayin’ man?

Dennis Powell is featured on an online news story:

Berkshire NAACP President: “Anger, emotion” after death of Tyre Nichols | WAMC

It has long been said that mostly white police officers over-police mostly minority neighborhoods in the U.S.A. It has also been long said the color of money is not black and/or white, but it is green, meaning MONEY!

I heard from a friend who did time that Pittsfield, Massachusetts, has a reputation for being friendly to gangs. There are now over 1,000 gang members who live in inner-city Pittsfield. It wasn’t like that when I grew up in Pittsfield in the 1980s and 1990s.

Pittsfield: Where people want to “try out” being a mayor and see how it goes. Qualifications unimportant.

Why does EMA want $250,000? Are they paying some kind of special BIC taxes to the city? Is there something in their business model that makes them more beneficial to Pittsfield than any other business?

I remember their first pitch was “once we build this space capsule, people from all over the universe will travel to Pittsfield because of it.”

Wonder how that panned out.

They have two job openings posted, one specifically for Pittsfield: a highly specialized scientist position.

What are the doing for the community?

Illegal immigrants are refusing to leave a ritzy New York Hotel and are now sleeping outside the hotel in tents. They are complaining that the food they are being given in the shelters is terrible and compared to a 5 star hotel, I would imagine that would be true, but they are already being given free transportation, free clothing, and free phones. Isn’t the whole idea for them to now get jobs or do they also plan on living off big government like many of the young people in this country? What is the far left thinking they are going to do with these millions of people?

Lotsa folks like this who can’t afford to eat or have a place to live wind up becoming thieves, drug dealers or prostitutes. They do what they have to do to stay alive. The pimps and drug dealers be loving all the new young talent for their harems and crews. Hungry people and needy people are quite in demand by the underworld. But apparently government officials not seeing that side of it.

wtf??? Guess I won’t tell you about the time Bobby Hull shot a puck into the high right corner of my net and I snagged it and held it till the last few seconds of the game ticked off. That was the seventh game of my first Stanley Cup experience and I was carried out on my team mates shoulders to the roaring applause of the whole rink.

What have you done lately? Cookie bake off maybe?

Still got the puck Dan. And Bobby was a good sport about it signed the puck for me. It is a great conversation piece so I leave it on the coffee table and regale the relatives when they come over for Easter or Christmas or a cookout. They never seem to get sick of hearing the story and often ask me to shoot my hand up in the air as to recreate the moment. I would say that that was my fifteen minutes of fame but then I went on to break all NHL records for saves and got into the hall of fame so that was cool as well.

Everybody now wants to be treated like royalty by the government all of the time including the illegal immigrants. Trouble is that that can’t last and big government knows it.

If I lived in Ward Six I would be seriously trying to recruit someone to take Dina Lampiasi’s seat! What has she accomplished on the council? At the last meeting she tried to say that climate change was a factor in the DPW’s failed effort to clear the streets of snow!
How many petitions has she generated on behalf of her constituents?

Her life was a rubber stamp until DA Wrong Way lost against Shugrue. Soon, Flat Tyer will be out of office and the ink on Dina Horton-Thompson-Smith-Barts-Horton-Alexander-Lampiasi’s rubber stamp will be dried up.

She’ll be back in the Boston area soon enough working some do-nothing job humping issues like LGBFUKYOU or white men are evil.

It’ll be some job that a high school dropout could handle, much like her job at the DA’s Office w/Wrong Way. But they’ll spice up the title and make it sound important.

John Krol is a narcistic personality type. Look it up in the dictionary. There is a picture of him. What are narcissists? They are notorious for engaging in both emotional and physical infidelity. They crave  power and control. Because they lack empathy they will exploit others while having an insatiable need for validation and attention. Narcissists also may have a sense of entitlement and great capacity to manipulate. Their duplicity allows them to dupe not only their partners but also society as a whole into believing that they are the charming, upright, moral and honest people they pretend to be.

Expanding broadband and passenger rail service are top on Berkshire lawmakers to-do list this legislative session | Local News | berkshireeagle.com

Is this a Joke? these clowns are absolutely useless! not one word about new business to the Berkshires good jobs or any outside the box solutions to spur economic growth.

Smitty thinks it’s a good place to be gay? really that’s the pitch? no young doctor is going to move here to raise a family with half the community on Medicare or Medicade or some other free social service. Pittsfield sold out and this is the result.

Question is who will step up to run for Mayor to lead Pittsfield out of this steaming pile of manure. Psst it ain’t Krol or Marchetti that is for certain.

Biden and his globalist far leftists are not telling the truth about social security. They are spreading the lie that McCarthy wants to cut social security while they are destroying social security by having so few people working and paying taxes into the system. This is the real threat to the elderly in their golden years.
