PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY, FEB. 27, 2023) — THE PLANET presents this guest column to shine indirect light on the current state of war across the globe, primarily the one raging between Russia and Ukraine but including countless forgotten, anonymous, or unknown battlegrounds such as Papua, Angola, South Sudan, Peru, Congo, Somalia, Kashmir, Darfur, Myanmar … we stop there. Trust us, though, the list is long and growing.

This does not take into the account the countless conflicts, disagreements, squabbles, and mini-hatreds that plague human affairs, exemplified best in what passes for contemporary politics. On the international stage, China has put forward a 12-point peace plan for Russia and Ukraine to settle their affairs. It relies on “dialogue and negotiation.” The U.S. president responded by calling the plan “not rational.”

Read for yourself: China’s plan for peace.

———- ooo ———-

Xi Jinping steps forward as a Leader. Joe Biden shrinks in the basement as someone who’s running scared.

One look at world history tells us that war is our natural state, with peace the outlier. Global, national, state, and city, the human race cannot govern itself. Now THAT, Mr. President, is “not rational.”

THE PLANET could wax philosophically at this point on how conditions for democracy and freedom are rare and that the norm for 5,000 years of have been the conditions that call for some form of autocracy, be it authoritarianism, totalitarianism, or dictatorship. We won’t do that. Instead, we shall put the spotlight, rather, the searchlights, on the following guest column.

It is reprinted from a piece written by Michael Bryan, via Art Mouton and David Bivens of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The piece asks an essential question:

After 1945, what happened to the free world?

Here is their article.

———- ooo ———-

WARNING! EXTREMELY GRAPHIC CONTENT AHEAD!

World War Two ended in 1945, and half the planet was suffering mass starvation and living in rubble. Entire countries worth of people were living in shacks or tents or the basements of burned out homes. Millions of farmer boys had been killed during the war, and millions more farmers sent to gas chambers during the Holocaust. The farm animals had also been sent off to support the war effort, forcing the surviving women and girls to go out in the fields and pull the plows like animals. It was a truly horrific amount of suffering.

And the leaders of the time had already previously lost millions of their brothers and friends to the previous world war.

Today we see both wars as triumphs over evil, but at the time the free world was distraught at losing millions upon millions of their young men. To them it wasn’t a grand victory, it was a living nightmare beyond their worst imagination. Like the gates of Hell had opened.

The leaders of the free world started asking themselves how something this horrible could happen, and what could be done to prevent it from happening to future generations.

They didn’t just point fingers at the Axis, which would have been a natural response. They looked deeply at themselves and asked what they could have done to prevent this.

And they saw that they had humiliated Germany during the treaty of Versailles which ended WWI. And they took responsibility for their actions, and vowed that it would never happen again.

They decided that revenge was not the right response, and that they would “turn their cheek” and forgive the Germans. They would never forget, but they would forgive and move on.

Instead of allowing the German people to starve, the Allies sent millions of tons of food to stop the self inflicted famine.

They also made sure to treat German prisoners fairly, with good living conditions, because they wanted to set a good example of fair leadership. They didn’t want German boys going home and dreaming of revenge.

German prisoners of war in Allied camps were allowed all sorts of privileges including sports, music, and even boxing.

They also made sure that both sides had the resources to rebuild, including the Germans. West Germany had one of the fastest economic recoveries in history. It is routinely referred to as an “economic miracle”.

They also created the UN, to make sure everyone could have their voices heard, no matter how small the country. Every country can air a grievance, regardless of the differences in strength between countries.

And it worked. It created a strong bond of trust between the Allies and smaller nations, and dozens of new small Democracies flourished.

Eventually this lead to the EU and NATO, and provided Democracy to over a billion people.

And this is why they are called the Greatest Generation. Because they lived through unfathomable suffering, but instead of taking revenge, they did everything in their power to make the world a better place for future generations.

———- ooo ———-

Fast forward to today and the performance of THIS generation, not by what it says but what it does. THE PLANET won’t spell it out. We trust you with the good judgment to do it for yourself. As Peter Fonda tells Dennis Hopper at the end of Easy Rider, “We blew it.”

If the generation of our parents and grandparents formed The Greatest Generation, ours has to be The Worst.

——————————————————————–

In striving toward a noble goal, if the effort is honest, the attempt, not the attainment, is the victory” — Sir Donald Turpentine, Knight of the Bath.

“OPEN THE WINDOW, AUNT MILLIE.”

LOVE TO ALL.

Please write about Pittsfield politics, such as the multimillionaire CPA Barry Clairmont’s civil lawsuit against Melissa Mazzeo for her publicly accusing Mayor Linda Tyer’s aforementioned third husband of political corruption prior to and during the too close for comfort 2019 mayoral election. How about writing about Massachusetts’ new Governor Maura Healey reneging on her promise of opening up the state’s “Cooked Books” to Sunshine Laws and related rules reforms in the executive branch? She must not want her career political colleagues in Boston to go to jail for all of their corrupt and secretive financial shell games over the years. How about Ed Markey making a mockery of himself and the Democrat’s Green New Deal by openly and publicly being in GE’s pocket by supporting GE’s plan to put a “capped” leaky landfill inside of a watershed in Lee, Massachusetts, in the polluted Housatonic River that is above the October Mountain aquifer, while the people who live in Lee and Lenoxdale are protesting the dumbest, unfunded and would-be very expensive so-called “cleanup” plan in the history of the world?

I am saddened by WW1 and WW2, the rise of Adolf Hitler close to 100 years ago and the tragic Holocaust, and then the post-WW2 military industrial complex that has made Wall Street trillions of dollars at the cost of many millions of innocent lives around the world. The U.S. Government profits off of war(s). The U.S. Government’s number one non-farm export is arms sales. The wealthy U.S. politicians give speeches about democracy, world peace and Human Rights, while at the same time they voted 20 years ago to invade a country, Iraq, with the second largest oil reserves in the world second only to Saudi Arabia. The U.S. politicians are comparing Putin to Hitler, but on July 15th, 2022, U.S. President met with MBS in Saudi Arabia and fist-bumped the brutal Saudi dictator and Human Rights abuser on the global stage. Saudi Arabia has vast oil and gas reserves so they can get away with the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks, murdering journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and ruthlessly using the death penalty to instill fear and terror in the Saudi People.

Why was it O.K. for then U.S. Senator Joe Biden to vote 20 years ago for the U.S. Government to invade Iraq (for its oil), but it was not O.K. for Putin to invade Ukraine one year ago now? Why are U.S. politicians decrying Putin for being a dictator and Human Rights abuser when MBS has a much worse public record than Putin is known for when it comes to being a brutal dictator and a Human Rights abuser? The same questions apply to Xi’s Chinese Government’s plan to invade Taiwan that is predicted to happen two years from now in 2025.

My source: GE is “building a dump in Lee above the October Mountain aquifer“. “General Electric knew since 1937 that PCBs are harmful to human health and still dumped PCBs in the Housatonic River and throughout Pittsfield, which caused generations of cancer and loss. People in Pittsfield want GE to take responsibility and clean up their mess. People in Lee don’t want a toxic dump in their community, especially not built directly above the October Mountain aquifer.” “Today, GE has a net worth of $87 billion“. – Letter writer Jennifer Zuker, North Adams, Massachusetts, who stated that she is a high school Chemistry teacher, whose letter was published in the Dirty Bird (Berkshire Eagle) on February 4, 2023.

Would somebody out there please explain to me how GE’s proposal to build a capped toxic waste dump – sarcastically called a “Leaky Landfill” – full of GE’s cancer-causing industrial chemicals called PCBs inside of a watershed in the polluted Housatonic River in Lee, Massachusetts, that is above the October Mountain aquifer makes any scientific and environmental sense whatsoever? How in the Hell did the corrupt EPA agree to this proposed so-called cleanup by GE, which has made no financial commitment for the estimated one-billion-dollar project that will take up to 15 years to complete once it begins after the years of still pending litigation in federal court. Even the Massachusetts state environmental agency would not sign off on this would-be debacle of a so-called cleanup project.

Governor Maura Healey has an opportunity to fight the good legal fight by speaking out about this ongoing fiasco. U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren recently spoke out against GE’s proposal in defense of the local residents of Lee and Lenoxdale, Massachusetts, who are protesting GE’s proposal to put a toxic waste dump in their communities.

True. We need the variety. A focus only on Pittsfield politics would be mind numbing. Pittsfield politics can be off the charts boring because the politicians and even some of the voters have no idea what makes a city a nice place to live.

But ignoring bad political behavior enourages even more. Lord knows other local media is not going to provide honest oversight. That is where Dan shines the brightest. While exposing highly questionable political actions locally does not seem to slow it down, it does at least let us know who the bad actors are.
A larger media outlet could, if it wanted to, actually effect positive change for the betterment of the community. Sadly that is not in the cards which is why, I, encourage families to relocate to a more promising area. Give the children some hope.

I immediately recognized the connection to the other two recent obituaries you referenced. In my opinion, both of them, no doubt were guilty at some point in their illustrious careers of compromising their own ethics, because that’s what they got paid to do. They were there to offer up their damning paid for expected verdicts, and to HELL with the ugly truth, which would have resulted in setting the innocent free. This obituary, I’m less clear about. Perhaps you can clear it up.

It shows the kind of people that generation was that they decided to help the enemy at the end of the war. Not evil racists, but caring human beings. Biden calls a peace plan “not rational”, but where is his effort toward promoting peace? The bodies are piling up in Ukraine and the liberal news media doesn’t show much of the horror of this war. They don’t want to keep the focus on the human misery. They just want to keep the focus on the New World Order they want to create.

It’s not hard to identify the rodent’s faeces when your property suffers from a rat infestation – you may notice tiny dark pellets of poop scattered everywhere. But, how do you know if these faeces belong to a rat and not a mouse? There’s a simple way to identify them: Rat faeces are found in large groupings. They are about the size and shape of an olive and can often be found near insulations. Mouse faeces, on the other hand, are much smaller than an olive. They are elongated and with a sharp end.

Hahhh! I can see the city’s social media and print puppets cranking up the denials about the number of rats being seen around. Same crew that turned the icy road debacle into an “it’s everybody else’s fault except the city’s”. What is actually being seen are lost teddy bears. Kids can be careless sometimes.
But has anyone from the health department checking resturants lately? Not just for rats but for general cleanliness? Looks like some pretty lax standards around here.
But given everything else that has happened in this city in the last few years a rat invasion would surprise no one.

I don’t think we are the worst generation but we certainly did not live up to the standards set by our parents. We mocked those standards. What we came up with brought crime, income inequality, isolation, community destruction but it also brought undreamed of economic and technological gains especially in medicine, communication and social networks. Many who were outcast are now part of the mainstream. We need to weave the strengths of the past together with the advantages of the present to make a better future.

Also, not to be lost is that Mazzeo’s/Mascot’s probably has deeper pockets and can’t snatch the now fatherless children away from the arms of their mother. Malicious, vindictive, predatory baby snatchers, DCF, can! And it wouldn’t surprise me if DCF’s cited excuse for snatching the now fatherless children, is that there’s no father in the picture. Of course, there isn’t, now that a drunk DCF Supervisor killed him. A sentence of probably less than 4 years is not enough of a lesson for the arrogant drunk DCF killer whose intentional actions left a young wife without her husband and three young children without their father, forever! When the drunk DCF supervisor is released from prison she’s probably go right back to snatching babies from the arms of their mothers, that is, right after she receives her promotion from DCF for successfully annihilating another family.

On the one hand the Ghana wife of the deceased, and her lawyers, are not seeking vengeance against the drunk DCF Supervisor who arrogantly killed the wife’s husband and the father of her children, but on the other hand the Ghana wife of the deceased and her lawyers are suing Mazzeo’s/Mascot’s for more than $3 Million $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. If the wife of the deceased really wanted this avoidable intentional tragedy to serve as a learning experience, she would have sued the drunk DCF killer of her husband for child support and college tuitions for her fatherless children. I assure you, writing out weekly child support checks to the widow of the man the drunk DCF supervisor killed for the care of three fatherless children and contributing to their college educations would have taught the DRUNK DCF KILLER a valuable lesson on the dangers of DRUNK DRIVING. Maybe the lawyers for the widow from Ghana can add child support payments from the drunk DCF killer to their non-vengeful $3 Million $$$$$$$$$$$$$ lawsuit.

Not that I agree with any of this diatribe,I can honestly say that the woman struck and many of the members that go to the events on west street do not heed the danger crossing the street. Many times they go into the path of the driver. I’m thinking they really aren’t attuned to crosswalks or think they can just stride into traffic whether there is a crosswalk or not.

I’d like to know if the lady was at fault? She’s eighty four but doesn’t mean she is guilty. Wait for the report. The Mazcot driver drove intoxicated. I personally believe prison sentence was deserved because it resulted in a death.

So Marchetti, Lampiasi and the whole He Haw gang come out for a walk across the street to raise awareness. What a bunch of virtue signaling phonies. Morales is the expert. Marchetti, Lampiasi, Pete White, Linda Tyer and other city luminaries travel that street every day and no one identified any danger until now? What a bunch of obtuse simpletons.

while totally ignoring the fact that there is an abnormally high auto accident rate in the city due to lack of traffic enforcement, giving drivers the mindset that they own the road.
there are probably a hundred more dangerous areas than that one. But seriously, it is a rare occasion that I go from one end of the city to the other where I will not witness one to five jaywalkers. Everyone sees this but the jaywalker always seems to be right.

(Would Marchetti have tried to give the appearance of giving a shit about this if he was not running for mayor?) Has he ever indicated that he cared about his constituents prior to seeking a higher office?

PEE PEE marchetti is as phony as a three-dollar bill.

Jaywalkers are as much of a problem as are drivers who run red lights and stop signs.

On occasion I have used that roadway to travel west of Pittsfield. The roadway/intersection does offers visibility to oncoming vehicles coming from College Way and vehicles traveling east on West Street. It also offers a wide-open view to pedestrians. Motorists traveling east on West Street don’t always use their direction light to indicate that they will be turning right at the corner where the electric building is. I refuse to take a left at the electric building until I determine that’s it safe to. Recently while I waited to safely turn left a car came around my stopped vehicle like a bat out of hell as vehicles were coming off College Way approaching the intersection. The first car coming from College Way had already passed the corner of Dewey and West Street, with another car following just behind it. In my opinion both of those vehicles, which had the right of way, were traveling too fast. But it was the idiot who went around my stopped vehicle and had to accelerate to avoid a possible collision with one or both of the vehicles coming off College Way that was the potential threat. Good thing there wasn’t a pedestrian crossing West Street at that moment.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to complain about the barrels on the corner of Charles Street blocking vehicles from exiting onto Wahconah Street, AGAIN. Thus, forcing drivers to use the wrong lane to exit Charles Street, AGAIN. Why can tyerMoralASS fix this problem area right? How much has the city wasted on fixing Pittsfield’s perpetual problem areas wrong, time and time again. This isn’t an isolated problem area. The corner of West Street and Onota Street is another perpetual problem area, as is the intersection at North Street and Linden Street, and Linden Street and Onota Street, and the intersection at South Street and West Housatonic Street. Does anyone else see the pattern of perpetual failure here?

The Tyger

By William Blake

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,

In the forests of the night;

What immortal hand or eye,

Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.

Burnt the fire of thine eyes?

On what wings dare he aspire?

What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,

Could twist the sinews of thy heart?

And what thy heart began to beat.

What dread hand? And what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,

In what furnace was thy brain?

What the anvil? what dread grasp.

Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears

And water’d heaven with their tears:

Did he smile his work to see?

Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger burning bright,

In the forests of the nigh:

What immortal hand or eye,

Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Beginning to believe the city really does not have snow plow coverage. Hope to god we don’t get a big one. City never ever had this much problem with snow until tyer and her loyal but inexperienced dept heads came on the scene.

I believe it’s been proven that storm mismanagement and not enough salt being spread are at the root of the city’s snow clearing problems.

Seems to be a complete lack of institutional knowledge. When I helped with the city plowing many years ago they would pull in people from all the trade departments. Many of them were thieves and fuck offs in their day jobs but combined for an awesome plow crew who really knew their shit. And all the supervisors knew exactly what had to be done and it got done well. There was a guy driving around all night checking progress and the radio was going constantly with who was doing what and where and where they were going next. Hills were given early and constant attention.
How in the hell it deteriorated to what it is now is mind boggling.

Where was the arpa princess tonight? She left Gina out on an island with fast Kenny questioning. We heard missing page, tweaking, not enough info,I’ll get back to you, have to talk to Deanna? Fluid. Kenny might have been thinking it was a Kufflinks clone. The charts were unseeable also. The needs to be fixed before budget time.

Not to mention the Dirty Scary Creeper creeping about the ballot boxes in the city clerk’s office on election night. I wouldn’t go anywhere near Pittsfield’s filthy rotten corrupt scummy scammy smarmy politics with someone else’s 10-foot pole. So, that’s why Pittsfield is cursed with the same filthy rotten scummy scammy swarmy scoundrels year after year after year after year…………..no one with a good moral compass/integrity would ever subject their beloved families and themselves to vicious deceitful attacks by Pittsfield’s filthy rotten scummy scammy smarmy unchallenged political losers we get stuck with. I’ll admit it, THANK ALLAH, I am nothing like Pittsfield’s illustrious rogues, tyer-marchetti-krol-lothrop-wynn-clairmont-white-persip-warren-guiel-sherman-conut-kavey-kalinowsk-imoralas-connell-morandi-ruffer-maffucio-kronic-yon-rivers-cotton-moon-cohen-capitanio-lee-doyle-ruberto-stracuzzi………..

Hello Blogger Dan Valenti,

All of the Western Massachusetts State Senators voted to make the 70-year-old State Senate President Karen Spilka a Queen by voting to do away with term limits so that Her Majesty may rule the State Senate chamber for life. That includes the corrupt career Berkshire-based politician named Paul Mark, who served in the Massachusetts State House of Representatives for one dozen years from 2011 – 2022, and since the beginning of 2023, he is a State Senator on Beacon Hill.

Paul Marxism equals “Cooking the Books” to do DISSERVICES to the people and taxpayers of Massachusetts, while the financial, corporate and ruling elites reap all of the public financial benefits to enrich themselves at the public trough. Paul Marxism equals voting for corrupt and secretive sausage making and being a Rubber Stamp vote for his aforementioned Queen. Paul Marxism equals voting against Sunshine Laws and related rules reforms to ensure that the State House and State Senate top-down leadership has the corrupt power to suppress democracy in Boston.

In closing, the Berkshire delegation to Beacon Hill are all useless political hacks and they always vote to do DISSERVICES to the people and taxpayers they represent in Western Massachusetts. Smitty Pignatelli (aka Shitty Pigpen) has been voting against Sunshine Laws since 2003. Tricia Farley Bouvier (aka Happy Endings, Country Buffet) has done little to nothing in Boston since the Autumn 2011. John Barrett III is almost as bad as the 50 years in the Swamp multimillionaire Joe Biden when it comes to being a career politician. Paul Mark is not helping to change matters either.

Best wishes,

Jonathan A. Melle
